What was scheduled as a routine eye exam, worth a $10 dollar copay under my insurance, turned into a nasty medical billing that will be much higher. i was asked by the tech and the doctor if i was experiencing headaches, to which I answered "yes, but I believe its due to work stress and coming off a medication". and with that gentle utterance of the word "headache", it was coded and billed as a medical visit with a disclosed cost rather than a $10 dollar copay for a routine eye exam. Bear in mind, no doctor refereed me there for headaches. i told the receptionist, tech, and doctor that i am here for an eye exam and to file my new insurance for future visits. yet the doctor fixated on the mentioning of my headaches and ran with it. its no secret that medical claims are often more expensive than vision. I expressed to both the tech and the eye doctor that i believed the headaches were sourced by work stress and weening off a medication. the deliberate effort to siphon more funds out of me rather than to provide quality vision care is absolutely disgusting. if you make the mistake of coming here, lie to them about any possible symptoms that could relate to medical. otherwise, they wont preform any medical treatment, screenings, or tests, and will bill you as if they did and extract much more money from your wallet. its not technically illegal, but just because something is legal, doesnt mean that it is ethical. Broom Optical is not serving the people of Amarillo well by sneakily listening for keywords that allow them to bill you more without providing any additional treatment. $10 dollar copay is now going to be significantly more despite the only thing being done is the eye exam. stay far away from this place if you value your time, money, and eyes. read more

Went to Broome Optical for an eye exam and saw Dr. Hong. I declined the optional $39 eye test. Before I met with her I walked into the room to do the test and no one mentioned it was optional I just read the form and asked. The aide stated it was optional and I declined. When I walked in she had mistaken me for someone else and then stated it was my first time. I felt pressured to complete optional eye exam because she kept reiterating the exam but I chose to have my eyes dilated. My regular eye exam went decent and I mentioned I typically struggle with the "1 or 2" portion of the exam. Toward the end she used something different and I mentioned it was blurry. She didn't elaborate more. I called a few days later because I had some concerns about the blurriness and how if it would affect my new prescription. I was told I could come in to discuss it. I went back today and was informed I need to pay for a new exam, which was very disappointing. I had a few questions I'll need to pay another $100. I felt this should have been handled differently in my opinion. I will be seeking Optical care else. read more

Broome Optical is a wonderful company, run by good people who truly care about their paitents. I don't even live in Amarillo anymore, but still prefer to use them for my eye care when in town seeing family. I have seen Dr. Beddow who has retired now and Dr. Williams. Had great visits with both, Dr. Williams is very kind and paintent and great man and his technician Jazzel is a sweetheart and does a great job. The most recent time I was in town, I had to see Dr. Haney because Dr. Williams was out of the office and since I live out of town now, I have to see whoever I can when I'm there. I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Haney as well. He is genuinely nice and funny and did a great job with our eye exams. Another great doctor at Broome. read more

Horrible experience- Desk person was rude, stated I should talk the the doctor if I have questions and said I could not change information for ordering contacts for my child. I never had the opportunity to see or consult with the doctor. I asked to visit with the doctor and was told Dr Kahn left. Gave them 2 stars simply because the staff are going their best and got most part are friendly and trying to help. I just don't understand why they have very strange business practices, they want you to use health insurance and vision insurance because they want you to have exams that neither one will pay for so you have more out of pocket. I paid for exams and glasses each time I went in. 2 months later I'm still getting bills because my insurance got overcharged and kick it back so I have more out of pocket expenses. I've had this same insurance for years and never had this issue! Billing department doesn't communicate with insurance to make sure this doesn't happen. I got a bill last month, called them and was told it was an error on their part. I didn't owe anything. This last one was discovered in January and they never said anything until now, March. I already had a prescription and was shopping for a specific type of glasses. They were very knowledgeable and were extremely helpful. I did not find their prices to be out of line with any other optical shop. In the end, I did not get the glasses, chiefly because I had to leave the geographic area too fast to get them delivered properly. But, their showroom is great and I would go back if I could. I recommend them to anyone in their area. read more

I have use three different Optometry offices and Broome definitely shines above the rest. The staff is friendly and helpful. The selection of frames is better than any I have seen here in Amarillo. And Dr Haung was exceptional. She was very informative and made sure I understood every thing. One of the best experiences I have ever and have worn glasses for over 40 yrs now. AS far as the prices go I was expecting the cost to be like my last 2 pair and was surprised as I spent about $350 less than the last 2 pair I have purchased. read more

Its a typical morning. Feeling a little tired from some late night studying the night before,I reach over to my night stand to grab my glasses. Only to realize I fell asleep with them on and they are now in two pieces. I giggled a little bit to myself and proceeded to put in my contacts. I could finally go inside the eye glass repair shop down the street from my house. I rode my bike and presented my glasses to the repair man. He was in some sort of disbelief that my glasses even existed. You see I own a pair of American Optical glasses from the 50's. He proceeds to tell me; "Sir, I cannot fix your glasses for you. They no longer make glasses like these and I am afraid I don't have the parts for them." I live in Austin, Texas. Surely there has to be a repair shop that carries the parts for my glasses. I was wrong after the fourth shop tells me they can't fix them. I begin to panic. These American Optical cat eye glasses have become my signature look. What am I going to do? I back track and think. The last time I got my prescription filled was in Amarillo,Texas. I frantically look for Dr. Neal Nossaman's card. I spoke to Lauren and she transferred me to Davidson. I told him my problem and a huge relief came over me. He told me they could fix them. He was super courteous and professional.
