We visited here on a lazy Friday afternoon, after our dogs were barkin from a Pearl River trip. It's good. I was previously spoiled by other wine bars in the city that shall remain nameless, but Brookvin did not disappoint. I enjoyed a nice glass of Sauv Blanc as well as some very good goat cheese with rose petal jam. It was so good in fact, we ordered up another round. We had a parm reggiano along with a fig jam that was also out of this world. The keeper for me were the pickled wax beans. They had a bit of a bite, but were nonetheless outstanding. Looking up I loved the tin tile ceiling, and the old pictures of NYC gracing the walls. Pricy considering the experience overall, but what is money for but to spend? read more

A fantastic, low key wine bar in Park Slope. Perfect for dates and catching up with friends! Not only do they have wine by the glass but also wines in draft! Now that I need in my kitchen! If you're not in the mood for wine, they do serve beer and even Doc Drafts cider. But seriously, come for the wine. My friend and I munched on their prosciutto that came with bread and a mint aioli, as well as a bowl of olives and their mac & cheese with bacon. All were yummy in my belly! This is an adorable, small little wine bar. It is really cute inside. I went with a few friends for dinner and we ended up staying here all night. Recommendations: The mac and cheese was killer. It had bacon in it. We all shared it. I felt like I was going to explode. This did not stop us from ordering a cheese plate. I have a problem with most cheese plates- not enough cheese. No, at Brookvin they give you plenty of cheese. That was a refreshing change. We also had bread and meat. At this point in the night my body was starting to feel physically ill from all of the cheese. Of course, we ordered desert after that. I ordered the sourdough bread pudding. It was good, but not amazing (perhaps because I was starting to feel ill from consuming so much cheese) This is the perfect place to meet up with friends if you are searching for something low key, where you can actually hear each other talk for a good conversation and a lengthy wine selection. I have only had wine here, and maybe a few nibbles, but the beet salad I sat across from the other night has been haunting me (in a good way)--so I will going back to try it very soon. The atmosphere is great, the waitrons really have it down-attentive without being cloying. There was a smallish/boisterous party of medical peeps in the front of the bar, but the noise levels were still fine. It is the kind of layout that offers intimacy within a festive air. A tough feat, by any means. I appreciate the honest feedback about the wine list, almost as much as I appreciate not having to use lofty descriptions of my palette. Yes, this place is my new local. Park Slope has been in need of a great wine bar for a long time and we finally have one- A friendly, attentive staff, great wine for a good value, and snacks. You ever go into a place and just like it? That's how a feel about Brookvin. It's a cozy, friendly place with a great overall vibe. And damn romantic, too. Oh, and then there's the beautiful garden seating out back. We first ordered a hunk of cheese, which was pretty great. When I say "hunk" I mean a nice, generous portion. As good as that was, I'd like to see them add plates with a variety of cheeses on them. We also had the mac & cheese and the pulled pork sandwich, both of which were excellent. The mac had just the right consistency: thick and creamy, without being too heavy. And the bacon chunks were a great addition. The pulled pork sandwich was equally enjoyable, featuring a unique pretzel-like bun. The beer selection was sparse, but good and the wine list was fairy extensive and looked pretty quality. I'll definitely be back: for the food, atmosphere, and good vibes. And the owner is a damn nice guy, too. No fifth star only because I'd like to see a larger menu. read more

I went there for the first time last night and loved it! I got a Petit Shiraz that was earthy and delicious, as well as a single cheese. I was a little hesitant over the cheese price at first ($10 for only one cheese) but they give you an incredibly generous serving and a ton of bread. The waiter was also kind enough to bundle my cheese and my roommates charcuterie together to save some money, in addition to letting us sample the wine before ordering. Great little wine nook! If you're looking for a low key, smaller place to chill out and enjoy a glass of wine and some yummy tapas and/or cheese this is it. In wine bars, I really enjoy being able to sample a plethora of wines and therefore love flights. This bar did not offer flights BUT did offer 1/2 glasses (for 1/2 price obviously lol) to serve a similar purpose. Had I not asked about flights though, I would not have known about the 1/2 glass option as it did not seem to be on the menu. I enjoyed several different food selections while there including the chicken pot pie. I think this is a must! Perhaps a bit nontraditional to be paired with wine but this puffy pastry version of a classic meal is delic. read more

Normally I'd visit a place a couple times before writing a review, but I had to chime in. Also, I'd give this place a 4.5, but hey, they're new in the hood, so I'm rounding up. (Also the lovely Pinot Noir I just had there is making me feel generous.) I'll get one thing out of the way: silly name; they could have done better. But who cares? On to the good stuff. So, very well thought out wine list, w/ lots of variety in the by-the-glass selections - I consider this v. important. Great mix of old vs. new world wines, easier vs. "more challenging" wines, and very little of cliched stuff like those oaky buttery CA chardonnays. I guess my only complaint about the by-the-glass selections is they don't have a really dry Riesling, which I love - but they do have one in a 1/2 bottle. And there are unusual goodies like a Portuguese red, Madiran (mostly Tannat), etc. Ah, whoops, one more complaint: they need a Loire valley red by the glass. Chilled slightly, these make great summer reds. But hey, there are so many kinds of wine you can't serve everything; overall, they've done a superb job. It's also a very pleasant space, warm and unpretentious. Garden looks great too. The snacks look well chosen. I had a "tartine" (open-faced sandwich) w/ roasted peppers, olives and anchovies. Very tasty and went well w/ the wines; they served it slightly heated, not hot, which was a good call. While there is food and liquor, this place is about wine, and they're smart to do one thing well rather than try to be all things to all people. I particularly appreciate the 'tender's generosity in pouring several tastes; there's nothing better than feeling like they actually care whether you have a good experience. To start with, an entire star is for the garden. It's adorable and, despite the fact that i got EATEN ALIVE by mosquitos last night, I will still go back next week and sit my butt right down outside. Another star is for the food, with which I have a love-hate relationship BUT is local and so, merits said star. The snacks have a lot of potential, but the pickled radishes were too vinegary and quite frankly, too pink. The fried almonds were delish, and last week we had house-cured pickles (salty but awesome). Yesterday we tried the panzanella salad (bread elements were over fried, tomatoes were yummy, ancho were very well apportioned but i wouldn't get it again), and next up I'd like to try a tartine... My boyfriend and I bring books and sit for hours and drink wine or sangria (more brandy, please!) and just chill. Props, stars, snaps -- and my continued patronage. read more

Wine selection is pretty solid and the environment is really chill at least on a Sunday evening. We attended the Pinot Noir Tasting Class at BrookVin, it was a wonderful experince. We tried 8 different Pinot's that were all distinctively different. The owner who hosted the class took time at each table answering questions and really making it an excellent experince. The flights were arranged as a set of 3, a set of 2 and a set of 3 and each set of flights came with a little something to eat. A little cheese and some tartine's. We stayed after had another glass of Pinot and tried a few other of the food on the menu. This is not a full restaurant menu but a excellent menu of cheeses, sliced meat and other small bites. We also had the home made Bratwurst it was amazing! I have always enjoyed shopping at Big Nose Full Body and after the Pinot class I really like BrookVin and highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a glass of wine, great calm atmosphere and tasty little treats! read more

I'm not quite sure I understand why other reviewers are giving this place 5 stars. Yes, the wine selection is nice but $10 and up for a glass that is half full? Really? I was told that the bartender fills the glass to its widest point which makes it approximately 6 ounces. Why I ask? So that one can swirl it around the glass, sniff it and it also allows the wine to breathe. Again I say Really?! I'm sorry but I didn't notice anyone at the packed bar doing that. LOL If you like your wine like my friends and I do, I suggest you go for Happy Hour only. Otherwise be prepared for a very steep check at the end of the night! Happy Hour is all night on Monday's and other nights 5-7pm. As far as the food selection... which is also pricey considering the amount or I should saw lack of amount of food you get, I would stick with Happy Hour again, where the tartines are half price. If you're a vegetarian, you've got a very small selection and forget about the salads... not much there at all. This is definitely not a place to go if you're hungry or for dinner. Overall thoughts... great place for Happy Hour, nice atmosphere, Jen the bartender is wonderful, but the manager can be a bit snotty and rude (I don't know why?). It's totally convenient to my apartment (one of the main reasons I go there) and to socialize with friends at the bar after a long work day makes it worth it... I guess. LOL P.S. I was told that the guys who own Big Nose Full Body also own Brookvin but if you like a certain wine at Brookvin don't think you can purchase a bottle at Big Nose. One reviewer saw a pregnant woman with a young child. At my last visit there were a couple of young children in there with their parents. I agree, this isn't the type of place to bring kids. Parents, go to Johnny Mack's, which is right around the corner. You can drink and the kids can play pool or pinball machines. A much better environment for kids... that is, if you feel the need to take them to a bar. :) read more

Cute, cozy and has a pretty decent wine selection. I wasn't crazy about the food selection, the mac and cheese I tried was ... meh. The backyard is adorable, so I'd suggest checking it out when the weather is warm. When indoors, it's definitely cozy and the seating is great for sitting close and let's just say, it's a great date spot. It's on the pricier side, so don't expect to get too wasted without a pretty penny to shell out. Bathrooms are clean, spacious and yes there are two! I hate when places only have one but I digress. Brookvin is in my neighborhood and I constantly walked past wondering what it was. Finally I decided to just go check it out and this is what I found. It's a clean, intimate atmosphere with seating selection varying from bar, table and outdoor (until 10). I had a difficult time deciding what I wanted because everything looked good. There is a huge selection of wine, cheeses and other plates. The waiter suggested out of the choices I had chosen what would go best all together. Now I just have to worry that this place is right down the street from me.. I can't become a regular. Off to see more places! read more

Cute, quaint and tasty. We ducked into this place to grab a drink before dinner. The experience by the bar is welcoming and professional. The cocktails we had were just the thing to cool us off and calm us down after a long walk. The crowd is laid back and the dining room and outdoor patio space make for a nice backdrop to any special event. I can't speak to the food because we didn't stop to eat, but if you're looking for good drinks and atmosphere, I recommend Brookvin. read more

I really enjoyed my night at Brookvin. I came here with three girlfriends for a drink and some food. We had several rounds of drinks throughout the night and the server was quick and always ready to bring the next round. We started with the three tartines. They were great, I really like the one with the onion jam. We then each had a beet salad, it was very good but it was a little different that what I would have expected for a beet salad, especially with the amount of ricotta cheese there was. We also then shared a mac and cheese which was part good, part meh, part i'll eat anything right now. Overall, I would recommend and go back there. If you want a full dinner I would probably go somewhere else. This is great for small plates and great drinks. read more

We visited this saturday before the Brooklyn Summer Concert series in Prospect Park. Its a lovely, quaint spot with knowledgeable staff and a thorough wine list. Their food portions are small but good for sharing, we tried the following: - Mac and cheese - has bacon on top! - Meatballs - decently flavored - Gazpacho - delicious and no dairy! I liked this place. I would come back again. Some items were a bit pricey but worth it. The Meatball dish was one of them, we ordered it twice. We had a variety of cheese and meats with two bottles of wine. We all had fun, party of four. We had great service. Everything was good except for the temperature. A little hot in there. Once we finished our food we ventured outside to their outdoor seating area. It was a lot cooler! I was afraid of mosquitos but it seemed safe. Been to this place twice, once on a weekend night when it was packed and once on a thursday late night when it wasn't. Both times, the service was excellent, the drinks potent and delicious, and the atmosphere very relaxed and enjoyable. This is the kind of place you bring a date to, or a group of friends who want to catch up, a place where you can talk to people and actually hear them (hint the music is low, setting a great ambiance without interfering with the conversation). There are a few cocktails on the menu, but they are all perfectly crafted and delicious, the whiskey sour is delicious, but the gin-based Ginger's flight is fantastic and strongly recommended. They also have an exhaustive/extensive wine list, so bring your wino friend/whoever you want to impress, and they will not be disappointed. Great place for a drink. I liked Brook Vin and would go back again, but I felt that while the place had a great deal of potential, there were a number of small issues that need to be worked out to make it truly great. First for the good: the wine selection is awesome. As other reviewers here have noted, Brook Vin has a wide range of both different and "safe" wines - something for everyone. They even have a whole page devoted to interesting roses (a rarity, and very welcome in the summer). All of the wines we tried (4) were very good. My only complaint is that the whites and roses were served too warm. The food is where the majority of issues lie. They have a nice selection of snacks, small salads, tartines (open-faced sandwiches), cheeses, and cured meats. Most of these choices are around $8 each and most are served with bread. The bread is the first problem. It appears to be essentially toasted wheat bread (similar in taste and texture to that you would buy at the grocery store). The thickness of the bread and the flavor do not pair well with any of the cheeses or meats they serve - it totally overwhelms whatever is put on top of it. Even plain french bread would be better and crostini would be best. They also serve A LOT of bread with a very, very small amount of meat and/or cheese. I get (and in fact celebrate) the small plates concept. But, if I am going to pay $8 for a plate of sausage, I do feel that there should be at least 8 small slices on the plate. Filling the plate with low-quality bread seems to be a little bit of a cheat. Overall, I really liked this place (great atmosphere, good service, and great wines). I hope that the management sorts out the issues with the food/bread and the wine temperature - with just a few tweaks this could be the perfect wine bar. read more

This is place is my favorite place to go! It has really good cocktails and wine and their food is delicious!!!! The ambiance is great and it has a really cute patio area. I've come here multiple times a week and pretty much bring anyone visiting me to this place!!! The guys that work here are sweet! My only complaint is I brought all my coworkers here the other day and they were put off by our waitress, she wasn't very friendly and she also moved us from outside to inside when we told her we will have two more people joining us (its policy because of noise level) then even inside she told us to "simmer down". I felt judged and got the pretentious vibe that I absolutely despise in this area. Although we were a little loud and she might have been right, but she could have been nicer. Non of friends from that night will go back with me :( BUT that being said, this is still my favorite place and I am coming back for sure!!!! I live in the neighborhood and have popped in a few times. The food and drinks are just fine, a little overpriced if anything. Their patio has never been open when I've been there on perfectly lovely afternoons/evenings. (Not sure if they're working on a zoning issue or what..) I went in for an engagement celebration recently and got a lot of sass from the cheesy bartender with the tropical shirt and goatee. He was too busy flirting with the much younger servers to be bothered with pouring us drinks. When he did get around to us, he had no inhibitions from muttering snide comments right to our faces. Delightful unhurried service that encourages a second...third...fourth(!?!)... glass of wine and musings that accompany them. If the weather is nice, experience the garden they have in the back, just keep a citronella candle near you in the summer. A really chilled out spot. A fantastic place to unwind with a glass of wine or bourbon. Seriously, they have a great selection of wine and a surprisingly good selection of spirits (read: they have michters, bulleit, and angels envy). If you want to put something in your stomach to soak up these delicious beverages there is a tasty selection of bites to choose from. Furthermore, if you have any questions, the staff knows their shit and will give you the lowdown on the wine and the food. Come for a relaxing evening with friends or on a date. Came here per sister's suggestion - and the place (though a bit far from the subway. I think if you come from Grand Army Plaza, it's another 20-30 minute walk). But the place was super classy and the service was great. I was a bit snobby in saying that I preferred Californian/French wines (sorry my fellow Washingtoners and Oregonians, I've just never had your wine...), and our server found something that appealed to our tastes, wine buds, and budget.
