When we came into the space it was very dark and it remained dark the entire time we were there which I thought was odd. But the winery is powered by solar panels which I thought was cool! But I swear it must've been 50 degrees inside the building because half of us were freezing. It also looked like a lot of the decorations were incredibly old and outdated and hadn't been dusted in a long time. The woman that helped to service us was very nice and personable and I thought we had a good time talking to her and her husband. They told us a lot about the winery and how the community helps to keep it running. I've never been to such a small winery like this one so it was nice to hear how they keep it running! The wine: the reason why im not giving this a lower star rating is because of how good the wines and prices were. For less than ten dollars you can sample 5 wines and they let us pair up and share tastings so we could try them all! I loved each wine and they all tasted unlike any other wines I've ever tasted. Very fruity and fragrant and delicious. :) Overall I think if the owners added more lights and cleaned up the decorations this place could easily jump from a 3 to a 4!

We've been stopping at Dennis Drummond for years (in the summer only) and never had this problem in the past, although once we were told that they didn't want the staff going out to wait on us on the patio (no problem, since we grabbed our wine, glasses, and pretzels inside, paid for everything, and we didn't need anyone to wait on us). First, today's air quality was better than it has been earlier in the week (wildfires in Canada caused very smoky conditions for the previous two days). Second, we noticed two people sitting at a table outside in FRONT of the establishment--was the heat and air quality any better in front than in back? Third, in Minnesota, many of us LIVE for warm weather when we don't have to wear coats, boots, hats, etc. Fourth, this is a resort area, and we don't know of any other establishments with outdoor seating that won't allow patrons to sit outdoors, a fact we proved when we stopped at two other places after our disappointing stop at Dennis Drummond. Fifth, this place has NEVER been very busy when we've stopped there--can they really afford to turn away local business, or do they rely on people renting the place for events like weddings? For those of you familiar with the Brainerd Lakes area, can you imagine Ernie's, Zorbaz (both on Gull Lake), or Moonlight Bay (on Crosslake) refusing to allow guests to sit outdoors in the summer? We stopped into the tasting room and found a happy crowd of folks there and a very friendly and helpful lady, who turned out to be the owner. It was "Cheesecake Sunday" so of course we had to try the cheesecake with our flights of wine. Very good cheesecake with the topping of our choice! They had a large selection of wines and we ended up buying a couple bottles as well as some merchandise. We had a very fun experience and loved hearing the story about origins of the winery. There are 2 bars on property, 1 inside and 1 by the events center. I'm assuming you can rent the place out for weddings and currently they are under construction in the parking lot. I ordered a caprese salad with chicken. It was just okay. It came in a chipotle "like" bowl and the chicken was minced. The menu said thick slices of heirloom tomatoes but they ended up being cherry tomatoes and the mozzarella was light on the portion. More salad than anything else and was drizzled with balsamic. I don't think it was worth $19 but if I'm paying for convenience, I get it. Just let your customers know that it's cherry tomatoes and not heirloom tomatoes when they are ordering. This is how the menu item reads: Thick slices of heirloom tomatoes, fresh basil, and torn mozzarella on top of greens, dressed with balsamic glaze. I opted for a non alcoholic beverage - root beer which was delightful but next time I'm getting the rose. The staff is friendly and helpful. If you enjoy a spiced fall or winter drink this would be my go-to. If a sweet or fruity beverage is to your liking, I recommend the Egyptian or the Black Currant. The Egyptian goes down quite smoothly, and the Black Currant adds a little punch and a new flavor to the mix. If tart is what you prefer, Plum is a great choice, but remember it is more catered to a sipping whine as it can be overbearing after a glass or two. Now a new mead that caught my eye is the blueberry. This mead must absolutely be added to the Renaissance fair as a new regular item. It is now my second favorite tied with the Odin, it is both sweet and tart, though not overly tart. An amazing blend of blueberry and honey. There are over a dozen other flavors as well that they have to offer that you may even enjoy more. You can sample them for free at the brewery before you purchase some. I just got some this week for Christmas break. So why not go enjoy the taste that the Middle Ages have to offer?

When we arrived the signs were a bit confusing as to where to go, we ended up pulling up to the house at the top of a hill but were given instructions to drive around the building past the bathrooms. When we got there there were carts to help us load and tote our stuff up to the camp site. There were multiple paths up to our site which was nice. The first night we decided to eat at the winery. We ordered a pizza, got a bottle of the sweet red wine and they had board games we could play as we waited for the pizza to cook. They wood fire Heggies pizza. We got a chicken Alfredo one which was really good, we ended up getting a second one. They had $10 wine slushies. Cath the bartender put us on to mixing the flavors. Both were really good and began our fav/go to drink for the weekend. Also Cath had great customer service and was there all weekend which was nice! She was great. We stayed at site 3 and it was a decent size, had a smaller 2 person bench/table, fire pit and was very well shaded. When it rained we didn't get too flooded out which was nice. The rest of the experience was mostly on us to make, during the day we took a walk and explored the vineyard. They had a few grapes growing, they also have yurts you can rent which is nice if you want to go full glamp. They were spacious and kind of had their own areas which in the vineyard. I will say there was a larger staying down by the yurts and we could hear them most of the night up in the woods where we were. Also live music at the tasting room/courtyard on Saturdays. They started around 12:30pm and went late into the evening. We could hear the music from our campsite which was nice. It rained that night so it started outside then they moved the music inside. Something to do though. They do have a coffee room that is open 24hrs which is nice. They sell snacks and stuff in there as well. Generally it was a good first experience/intro to camping despite it being a cold, rainy, summer weekend but I'd do it again.
