Located 45-minutes from the cities, Winehaven Winery is a no brainer especially if you're seeking out a solid day trip. We ventured here on Mother's Day with no expectations and were pleased to enjoy so many components here. The parking lot is spacious, there is a small interior section of gifts, wine can be purchased (of course), visible vineyards plethora of both indoor and outdoor seating, clean interior, well kept bathrooms, friendly staff, etc. the list goes on and on. My sister and I got the dessert wine as we had just come from eating a large brunch and I absolutely loved it! Winehaven offers standard white and red wines but also does an excellent job with the specialty wine as well. The chocolate zom-bee was oh so good! As the description reads, "Chocolate Zom-Bee is a monstrous explosion of dark chocolate and deep grape wine flavors. This wine is sinfully delicious with decadent chocolate desserts as well as vanilla bean ice cream or fruit-based tarts and pies." Enjoy!! read more

Such a nice winery. I try to visit at least once every summer. I went to celebrate my birthday but we ended up getting there 1hr before closing. I ordered a wine slushy flight but some of the flavors weren't frozen/ready but they were still good overall. Prices were fair. The patio is nice & overlooks the grapevines. They also offer indoor seating as well. I believe both times I went the inside was being rented out for private parties. The staff are nice & attentive. In the past we've ordered some flatbreads and they come out cut in a heart shape, it's super cute. They taste good as well. read more

An original Minnesota winery favorite! One of the first places I was introduced to Minnesota wine. I enjoy the large space they now have right off of Highway 8. I do miss the free sampling they used to have, but you can get still do several tastings for a small fee or get a flight or go full glass! Plenty to choose from to take with you as well. Just went there to see a Murder Mystery and dinner. What a disappointment! First off Donatelli's catered the meal. Caesar salad was not close to being fresh and there was little to no dressing on it. The meal wasn't much better. The roasted potatoes were soggy, the chicken breast looked like it was boiled with no favor. The tortellini was very gummy and the sauce was a white flavorless paste. The buttered bread didn't taste like bead or butter but it was soggy. To top it off the entire meal was cold. The play and the actors did a great job, just wish the play would of been longer. The actors spent to much time going from table to table talking to the guest. Would of been nice since Donatelli's served the meal if Vine Haven had a couple of waitstaff to refill waters and coffee instead of having to go up to the bar or even taking drink orders. Advertised as 2 hours, not true. From start to finish the whole thing lasted 1 hour and 20 minutes. My husband and I have had season tickets to small venue dinner theaters for almost 25 years and have been out of town to a B&B for the murder mystery weekend package. Hudson, North St Paul, White Bear Lake, Alexandrea, Duluth not to mention Chanhassen, Ordway, State Theater and the Guthrie so this isn't our first rodeo. We have always prefer the smaller venues. At $110 a ticket this wasn't worth it! read more

I am amazed that we have this beautiful winery hidden in Chisago. This 50 acre estate is located between three lakes with a stunning property! I am obsessed with there wine delicious and unique wine slushies in the summer (can get in a flight) and their super large menu of both whites, reds and dessert wine varying in sweetness. They also have frozen grape dessert wine that is so unique and flavorful! The space is so cute with a beautiful castle looking building, outdoor seating overlooking the vineyards and a lake, and lots of indoor seating. They also host a lot of weddings and have some weekends with live music, pop up shops, food trucks and even horse drawn carriage rides! Parking is super easy and the service has always been amazing. We went to this winery for a stop on a bachelorette party. There were plenty of open tables and chairs and definitely enough space for large groups, although they told us they would have preferred us to have a reservation (which was a little off putting). We each ordered a flight of wine that were pretty cool looking and gave us a variety of flavors. We ordered 2 charcuterie boards but one of them showed up 30 mins later than the other one. Overall, would go back for the scenery and the wine, but the service was not the best in my opinion. read more

What a fun place to visit! I knew I liked winehaven wine based on what I have bought from liquor stores, but going here gives you more options to try. The staff here were helpful when we first arrived. They gave us recommendations on what kind of wines to try. We ended up picking the fall flight which had a pumpkin wine , cinnamon mead, chocolate red wine, and cranberry wine. They all had great flavor, and I would definitely recommend trying this flight! Busy place during covid. SoCial distancing enforced. Preferred the red wine over their whites. Winery set up Not as personal or private as I would like, reminds me more of a commercial manufacturer. When you drive up to the location you're greeted immediately by the crowds in the front yard which makes it esthetically unpleasant to the eye. We got our wine and sat down in the front yard overlooking the busy road instead of their vineyards like other places that I've been to. Turned me off a bit. I am not a wine drinker but wanted to try something different. This was the first time I ever have gotten a wine sampling. I tried the recommended white wine sampling and sat outside overlooking the vineyards. It was a sun filled afternoon with a cooling breeze to take the edge off the temperature. I'm a little taken back at all the 5 star reviews for this place. I absolutely love the stinger mead and have been purchasing it from Trader Joe's for a few years. When I finally got the chance to visit the winery I was a little disappointed. The winery and the grounds are beautiful, and the service was great. They were set up for a wedding and it looked beautiful. The thing that was the MAJOR kicker right off the bat was the $18 pepperoni pizza that was very very clearly a digornio pizza. Either that or it was a dang good replica of a Digornio. It was served on the cardboard and everything! Very weird and to be honest a little insulting. It tasted great because who doesn't like frozen pizza... and I nderstand you have to make money but an $18 pizza? Some of the other pizzas looked way better for the price so maybe the pepperoni is just the unlucky choice. I will say, on a positive note we tasted some wines while we were there and the flights were a pretty good deal (and you get a lot of wine!) - so no complaints there. The slushies are also super fun and a good price. Maybe this is why they're charging so much for pizza? read more

This is a great place with lots of different events. Winehaven is beautifully located by a couple of small lakes. They host weddings and events, in fact, I have planned to have my wedding here. Winehaven has by far my favorite wines in Minnesota. I only make up here once per year, because they are part of the wine, cheese and chocolate weekend in November. This means that I have to load up on my order! Since I bought 5 bottles, the 6th was free! (not sure if this deal is ongoing or not). In the past 2 years or so they have greatly expanded from the tiny space they used to work from. This new space is large, homey, very bright due to the large windows. They overlook the vineyard and you can see right where the grapes come from. The new space is lovely and I bet they host weddings and company gathering now! The wine tasting is free on wine, cheese, chocolate weekend. Typically, it is $5 for 8 tastings. They have well over eight wines to try in categories of white, red and specialty. I have a hard time narrowing down what I want to buy since there are a few stars in each category. Sometimes I miss out on the special wines, like Rhubarb since I don't go until late in the season. They are open all year round, have a great space to hangout and drink wine, friendly family members (owners) work there, and the parking lot is huge! My recommendations are: Deer Garden Red or white Minnesota Lakeside Red Honeywine Stinger Mead Gewurztraminer (white) Rhrubarb Rhurbarb Strawberry Cranberry Marechal Foch (red) *don't forget to buy their mulling spice packets to make hot wine!* Enjoy! read more

My friend had a wedding here and it is about 40 minutes drive from the cities. You can't miss it driving on Highway 8. The entrance to the vineyard is beautiful, It almost make you feel like you are in Napa Valley. The space inside is big enough to hold a wedding. We had complimentary wine by the bride and groom. The wine was from the vineyard, it was made with honey and grapes. I think I had too much of it because by the end of the night I was still drinking. Oops. Well it is a wedding after all. The staff was excellent. They made sure the guests were comfortable. Definitely fully trained with a lot of knowledge about different wine. The event was very well organized. By the end of the night I was surprised no one break anything. I would definitely come back and try out their other wines. read more

What a delightful stop. We stopped for iced wine but the grapes did not cooperate for iced wines this year. Their nakomis and port are so good. We just came back from Napa and tastings at some of their finest wineries.(B vineyards, silver oak, Caymus). These are not of that quality for a special occasion but great every day wines! We visited on a cold late October day and the place was very quiet. We went for the wine tasting and they give you a sheet with all of their wines on it. You get to choose 6 for $5 which is a good deal (and if you check in on yelp you get 50% off the tasting too). All of the wines were good, I especially liked the merlot and Marquette reserve. We also had a cheese board, decent sized pieces and I liked the Brie and cheddar. I would come back again but probably in the summer to see the vines and place a bit more lovely. read more

What a fun place! My friends and I came here for my birthday on a beautiful fall day to do the wine tasting. It was only $5 for six samples. The samples were decent size and for the price, well worth the experience. The people were wonderful and helpful. The scenery around the vineyard was beautiful with a lake in the back. You get a sheet of all the wines available to tastes with columns for whites, reds and specialty. It goes from dry to sweeter as you go down the list. The wine pourers will proceed down your selections, starting with white, then reds then dessert. Some notable ones for me (I like sweet stuff): Deer blush - almost like a sweet rose, the strawberry rhubarb, and the honey mead which is the award winner at wine haven. Definitely a hidden gem! Come and experience it! They have special paint days too that looked fun. I would love to come back another time to try more. You can also buy the bottles you liked to bring home. read more

We were hiking nearby at the state parks and notified that Winehaven was on the way home to the cities so we decided to stop by. Check in for a discount on the wine tasting! We were able to try 6 wines each so we decided to try a bunch on the tasting menu. I am partial to dry wines with a stronger oak flavor. My favorite (along with many of the staff) was the Nokomis. I also enjoyed the Marquette reserve and the Chardonnay. They grow many of their own grapes so it was fun to hear about their vineyard from the staff. Came here for a paint and sip party. Got there early for the sipping. Painting was excellent. Sipping could have been better. Wines tasted great but customer service was poor. Walked in and was kind of rudely told the painting is 'over there' didn't ask if we wanted wine or a tasting or anything. There were two bars and one 'over there' so we walked over there and asked, for a glass. He said that he does tastings and if we want a glass and don't have cash we need to go back [to where we came in]. Told him that guy told us to come over here and he said 'well you'll get some exercise!' We went back to the first bar and had to ask about how the tasting worked or if we could buy a glass. Information was not offered, did not tell us about the choices of wine or try to figure out what we liked. We eventually got our tasting sheet and went to the 2nd bar. Stood next to two other gals that were already there and the women behind the bar rolled her eyes and said sure I guess you can just squeeze in (there was plenty of room and we were at the end of the bar, there was no squeezing.) We asked how to get a cheese plate like the one we saw someone else have and she said we'd have to order it.... ok, how? Where? Geezus be a bit more forthcoming with information if you want to make money! After asking if we order with her, (said no, and had to ask do we go to the other bar) finally she said yes and got us a menu showing us the options(not starting with the cheese trays) and then told us if we get a cheese tray she will let us sample the warm wines. So we wanted the cheese tray anyway so said we'll go order it. Got the tray, finished our tasting and we're close to needing to go paint and we asked to try the warm wines as we were told and she proceeded to say it would cost extra. We said oh but you said you would let us sample them if we got the cheese tray. She said ok but that's just going to be a little bit. We said fine and then she brought out 3 small sample cups for the three wines. There were two of us so if we bothe wanted to taste we had to share from the cups! Whatever. These people are rude, only go back for the paint. Wouldn't want to interact with otherwise. read more

My sister and I were looking for something to do when I came upon Winehaven Winery on Yelp. I was pretty excited to find a new winery that was relatively close to me, so we checked it out and were not disappointed. Their wine tasting is really well priced - $5 for 6 samples? Yes please! The ability to try 6 samples (higher than some other wineries I've been to) really gave us the opportunity to try everything we wanted. In addition to the wine tasting, we ordered a "gourmet cheese and cracker tray". When we got it, it wasn't exactly what I was expecting. It was a still packaged HUGE piece of cheese, some crackers and an actual huge knife to cut it with. Although it looked weird, we appreciated the large portion and it paired perfectly with the wine we tried during the tasting as well as the additional glass of wine we had afterwards. As for their wines, I'm a huge sucker for fruit wines and Winehaven does not disappoint in this area. They have a large variety of fruit wines to choose from. I tried the Raspberry, Strawberry-Rhubarb and Peach. My favorite was probably the Strawberry-Rhubarb because it was a great combination of tart and sweet. The wines are well priced and when we purchased 5 bottles on our way out, we received a 6th bottle for free - always a good touch! All in all, if you are looking for a fun outing, I would highly recommend visiting Winehaven. This was our first stop of a winery tour. We were greeted by one managers, who gave us a short history of the vineyard. They had a large bar/tasting area set up for our large group, with plenty of pourers. The staff were all really nice and professional. The tasting area is airy and open, with a lake view. They offered 6 samples from white to red. They also make a honey mead which was so good...not too sweet and really quite tasty. I bought a bottle! Will definitely be back. read more

My husband & I got married at Winehaven in July. I am absolutely blown away with my experience. From the winemaker & his son to the wedding coordinator (Heather & Taylor- wow are they keepers)....they truly provide the best customer service. They made us feel so special. The venue itself is absolutely breathtaking. After our ceremony, my husband & I had a private table set up in the vineyard to have a private moment for 15 minutes while our guests made their way to social hour. The little details this venue & family are willing to do for you, make all the difference on your day! Our guests raved about the beauty and how unique their experience was. We went back to Winehaven for our 1 year anniversary and they totally took care of us and STILL made us feel like royalty. This place will forever hold a special place in our hearts. My wife and I visited here after hiking Wild River state park and the Eitchen cheese shop. We loved the wine and cheese at the B&B which served this local wine and cheese. So, we ended up picking up some more to go. First, we shared a 6 wine sampler between the 2 of us. Well, we absolutely fell in love with all the wines but the B&B honey wine was still our favorite. The space was the perfect size and enough room for social distancing. The guests loved the wine (especially the slushies). I would recommend Winehaven for a girls day or a small party.
