The one thing I miss about working downtown is ordering lunch from Darwin's. I don't get down here…read moremuch but was close enough to the area and decided to stop in today. My go to is the Ships in the Night(you can get it as a salad too), I'm not a vegetarian but the flavors of all the items in it go well together. I've tried a lot of other items while delicious I always come back to Ships lol. I've had their items such as salad, soups and shepherds pie at a catered event. It was all delicious and they do a great job with sandwiches and extras items.

The standard for this sandwich is a local favorite, pastas stretch bread. Which is absolutely delicious, but it just doesn't press well in my opinion and it makes it overly chewy. If I customized it a little and got a different bread, it would have helped it. But it did use a lot of fresh ingredients bacon made right on the flat top and roasted chicken breast cut right there, and a good quality ranch dressing. I got a side of fries as well which were just basic shoestring fries but were fresh fried to order for me. I can say if you want a budget lunch that is of good quality, Joe's definitely is a great choice, as it ran me less than $10 for quite a bit of lunch with a drink. This place was on fire when i walked in. Seemed a little dangerous but was definitely a unique take on what a sandwich shop could be. However when I got to the counter no one was there to take my order. All the employees had run out side and were screaming and making calls on their cel phones. Kind of rude but I got over it. I waited a few more minutes before being grabbed by firemen and taken outside. I never got any food but I definitely have never had an eating experience quite like that. Very exciting! read more

My son and I recently stopped by for lunch. My son had a whole Seafood Salad sandwich and I had a whole Reuben. Both sandwiches were average in size, lacked content and were grossly over-priced. A new deli/convenience store in Baldwinsville decided to just adopt the dishes name as their store name and run with it. Chopped cheese offers a variety of sandwiches, wraps, halal platters and desserts, along with also serving as a bodega style convenience store. The space has been completely renovated and everything is brand new, bright and clean. They are mostly aimed at take out, with only a couple small tables with chairs for dining in. We tried Chopped Cheese when it first opened. Now, about 6 months later, we have been there several times and have tried several things on the menu. The good: when the food is made well, everything is usually pretty decent. The very first time we went, they had JUST opened and didn't have some ingredients on their menu yet, but we were able to substitute and everything was good. We were even given some free desserts, which were also tasty. The bad: Now that we've been there a couple times, there are definitely some issues. They have a lengthy menu, and even 6 months in, it seems employees are still not sure of all ingredients that go into their offerings, often questioning several times what you ordered off the menu, or physically having to check the menu to see what the ingredients for a dish are. While the service at the register is usually friendly, the service behind the food counter tends to be indifferent to customers and slow. We have, more than once, had our order either made incorrectly or missing items. We have learned to simply check our order before we leave, and they are always fine to remake whatever is wrong, but items being wrong/missing is a common occurrence. Overall, it's a decent spot when you need/want something fresh made, but don't want to sit down, but they definitely have some things they still need to work on.
