I started seeing Chelsey in January of 2026. I was referred to her by my acupuncturist. I have totally screwed my body up after years of pushing thru the pain working out. Because of the chronic pain, I have created quite the neurological mess and a lot of my superficial muscles are turned on all of the time and doing the work. I came to Brooklyn Mindbody Collective to get help for chronic neck and shoulder pain after trying a million other things such as chiropractor, physical therapy, massages, yoga, stretching, etc that gave me short term relief but never long lasting healing (and honestly sometimes seemed to make my pain worse). Working a stressful 9-5 desk job was causing me a lot of compounding pain that I couldn't seem to escape. Within my first session of Somatic Rolfing with Chelsey, I already felt that she helped me find a breakthrough in understanding the root of my pain and tension and was able to tailor the body work to me in a way that other providers were not. Before working with Tori, I was skeptical about working with a life coach. I felt certain that I didn't need that extra help, and that it was a privilege for the rich with ample time on their hands. When I decided to try Rolfing with Chelsey, I Was expecting to be happy with my results. I wasn't however, expecting to notice results as quickly as I have nor that it would have such a drastic positive effect in my life in such a short period of time. Chelsey is amazing at her work and a wonderful human being. She is truly passionate about her work and her clients. Her amazing energy makes me feel such as ease; she patiently listens and addresses my concerns more than any Doctor ever has. After our first session, my body changed completely. A virtual Rolf-Yoga addresses your individual healing needs. As a Rolfer, Chelsey is incredibly skilled at observing tension and rigidity in the body using sight alone. (Yes, this works even over Zoom!) Then, she tailors the session based on your hopes as well as her assessment. You can expect to gain a number of tools that are easy to use at home for your personal healing. I, personally, wanted to address stiffness in the upper back and shoulders. Our bodies are responding in many ways to working from home, and this is my particular tension pattern. My session included an exercise to find the body's mid-line, self-massage along the spine with tennis balls, and myofascial stretches corresponding to TCM meridians. With a recording, it will be easy to return to her specific instructions to integrate these into my routines. I was lucky enough to do my Rolfing 10 series with Chelsey, and after those sessions, I've felt greater freedom and less restriction in my body. Long-standing patterns of pain have faded. It's no surprise that this corresponded with decreased anxiety and improved sleep. A private Rolf-Yoga session is a great way to build on other bodywork or physical practices (yoga, pilates, even physical therapy). However, it can also be a starting point on your own journey of physical and emotional healing. Not only to help me recover from a hip injury I sustained over the summer, but also helping to fix general structural issues with my alignment. It's hard to put into words what a session with Chelsey (or, better yet, the full series of ten sessions) is like--and, in fact, when she would often ask me during our time together, "what and how are you feeling?" I usually struggled to articulate exactly that. Which, of course, when it comes to bodywork, is often a good thing: Chelsey is so adept in her abilities, so quietly confident in her training, and so subtly attuned to the ins and outs of the human body that my experiences in her studio simply had no equivalent I could draw on to verbalize a reply. Simply put: if, like me, you deal with any kind of chronic pain and/or have always been curious about Structural Integration (ie., Rolfing), you absolutely need to see Chelsey. With warmth, kindness, calm, knowledge, and humor she will listen patiently (and she really actually listens to you) and come up with an approach tailored exactly to your needs. Oh, and if, also like me, you have a very low tolerance for the vapid oovy-grooviness that so often infuses the rhetoric around "non-traditional" health practices overall and bodywork in particular, have absolutely no fear: Chelsey will not surround you with mushy ideas about the benefits of raw milk or contort the theories of quantum physics to support some batty bodily claim: She is clear-eyed, open-minded, and well-trained, and you feel every bit of all this as she slowly manipulates parts of your body, asks you to "walk" for her, and gives you simple and clear exercises to practice at home. Honestly, I was at a bit of a crisis point physically when I started seeing her--and I'm forever grateful to her most of all for calming me down and getting me to the realization that this pain too would pass. In fact, now that I finished my ten-session series and have the original issue largely under control, I'm very excited to return for a Thai massage. I had read about Rolfing a few years back while I was trying to rehab from old neglected injuries. Since I had never heard of it before, I decided to go to the more commonly used chiropractic route. After wasting about 8 months and thousands of dollars I realize, that I had made mistake. About another year went by before I decided to revisit Rolfing. I can't recommend Rolfing highly enough, and Chelsey is such a kind, intuitive, and effective practitioner of this treatment. The benefits of my sessions have been clear and lasting. Rolfing is something like chiropractic work combined with myofascial release massage. Chelsey is extremely perceptive and is skilled at addressing even those needs which I haven't expressed, but which she has observed - subtle patterns in walking, for instance. The sessions have helped not only with alleviating tension, but also with my posture, physical alignment, flexibility, and bodily awareness. I walked away from my last session feeling a positively gravity-defying sensation - and I don't mean only my mood. I mean that I felt like the things that weigh the body down had been removed, like I was physically lighter. I used to get regular deep tissue massages, but the benefits of that seldom lasted more than 24 hours. The benefits of rolfing have lasted for weeks, and now months. I just finished my 10-session series of rolfing with Chelsey and WOW! I sought out a rolfer to deal with some chronic physical pain, which 95% has been resolved with her work, yet I didn't expect such dramatic mental and emotional benefits as well - what a transformative experience! Chelsey is very thoughtful, attentive, present, perceptive, and grounded in her work and she brought that to every session - we started each with a thoughtful check-in about where I was at and what I was feeling both phyically and emotionally, then we would do the phyiscal work with my body, and at the end she would offer suggestions to keep up with the work until the next session (specific yoga poses, things to keep in mind, etc). In my research, I found that Chelsey is one of the more expensive rolfers in NYC, and the series was a big financial stretch for me, but I thought it was well worth every single penny! (Also, her sessions are longer than most other rolfers, and leaves time to check in at the beginning and end of the session, without feeling rushed, which I thought was crucial to the experience.) Chelsey's Rolfing work is amazing. I've been doing CrossFit nearly daily for 5 years and have always had overhead mobility issues that hindered my performance. I've tried physical therapy, sports massages, and hundreds (perhaps even thousands) of hours of mobility work on my own. All this stuff has undoubtedly helped me minimize injuries, but I was never able to measurably improve my range of motion. Chelsey unlocked my overhead mobility. Most notably, after five Rolfing sessions I found that I could perform a deep (enough) push jerk catch, which is a position that I couldn't physically get into as recently as a week earlier. All my overhead positions are noticeably improved: I'm more upright and less arched with increased range of motion in my shoulder. (The lower body work is great too; I just needed less help with that to begin with.) A single Rolfing session is somewhat similar to a sports massage, but Chelsey's work is much more precise and purposeful. The series of 10 Rolfing sessions follows a grand plan as opposed to sports massages which can seem random and don't build on prior sessions. And of course I never achieved the same results with sports massages. If you're a CrossFitter looking for increased mobility, I cannot recommend Chelsey highly enough.
