Brooklyn Ink is the only tattoo place I really go to and have been coming here for seven years. I have done most of my tattoos and piercings from here. I have gotten tattooed from Alex, Matt and Joe but the one who has done most of my work is Alex. It is extremely clean in here so you do not have to worry. It's also a great environment and all the artist do amazing work. Going to a tattoo shop consist of having great artist and cleanness. I gave walked in with an idea of a tattoo and just told Alex and he just did the tattoo right there and than. Or he just did it straight on my arm without drawing it in a paper first. The prices are reasonable which remember You get what you pay for. Every piece I have gotten from here is quality work and always came out amazing. I have never been unhappy with anything I got here. I even had a tattoo fixed from Alex because another place in the city messed up. Also if you are looking for a good piercing this is the place! Matt has done all of my piercing I have and I have never had a problem with any of them. I got a piercing once from someone else and it went so wrong and they refused to help so I came here and Matt helped me save it. Also the way they tell you to take care of your tattoos is the proper way I believe because every tattoo and even piercing had always healed with no problems. In June at 35 I got my first body piercing - my nose. It was easy, fast and no real pain. A week later I panicked because due to seasonal allergies my nose had some normal swelling the nose piercing starting sinking into my nose. I freaked and contacted Brooklyn Ink the eve of my engagement party. I can't remember his name but on the website, he's the adorable one in the blue t-shirt. I got my first tattoo here. Originally I wanted something the size of a quarter, and Chuck was very upfront on that it will disintegrate eventually over the years and not look good. I got a Rose the size of half of a dollar, it took 20 minutes, and wasn't nearly as painful as it could've been. He was honest, funny, and overall made the experience better. The minimum is 50$ and since it was Halloween they had tons of tattoos ranging from little as 31$, 66$, and I think 138$ that were fairly large and gorgeously designed. (Boy, he wasnt lying) Pierce... Tear... Mirror Check, YAY!!!! I had to pay CASH: which is always difficult for me since I prefer using my card to track purchases. But I called around to about 15 different places and they had the most reasonable price for the piercing (which included the jewelry), the best reviews, and was easiest in accessibility). I liked the fact that they take care of YOU 1st and worry about the check after: I paid, at that time he also gave me THOROUGH after-care instructions, helpful hints for healing, told me HIS hours at the parlor so if something went wrong I can use him as contact & oh yea, I bought another H2Ocean. I got tattooed last week Thursday, Alex doing the tattooing. He was great, did exactly what i asked and was extremely pleasant to be tattooed by. When i saw the completed sketch (from what i had requested the week before), I realized it was much larger than what i had asked for. He shrunk it down a little bit, but the design was so cool I actually wanted to keep it pretty big. I warned him that I wouldn't be able to come back until after summer is over, so please makes sure you can get it done in one sitting. He was great, fast, and professional. I have only been here for piercing, not tattoos, but I am very impressed with their professionalism and customer service. No matter how many tattoos & piercings I have there is always a feeling of intimidation surrounding the experience when I walk into such a place. I had some jewelry changed here, and then the day after Hurricane Sandy I came in for a "snug" ear piercing. I was amazed they were even open, didn't think this was exactly a business that was in need on such a day. Nonetheless I was happy they were. They are clean and very clear about how to take care of your piercings. I returned 5 months later, worried that my piercing still hadn't healed, but Matt, the piercer thoroughly explained that it was totally normal and detailed the healing process to me (complete with drawings) reassuring me. Turns out I picked a piercing that could take up to a year to fully heal (impatient!) but I felt really good about his knowledge and readiness to answer my questions and assuage any concerns. I will definitely come back here for jewelry changes and if I ever feel unsure about the healing progression, which is important to me. read more

I had not been tattooed in almost a decade and I was itching for one in a serious way. I wanted a portrait tattoo of my mother and I was nervous to find someone good enough, someone that I would know would get it just right. I found that person in Alex, at Brooklyn Ink, in Bay Ridge Brooklyn. As soon as I met him and we started to discuss the tattoo, I know he was the one. He totally 'got it" and knew exactly what I wanted and how to make it look as beautiful as possible. Working with a very old photograph, he was able to recreate the portrait of my beautiful mother right into the skin of my back. Alex snapped a pic when he was more than halfway through and showed it to me. My reaction was to literally burst into tears as the beauty he was able to create on me, this special picture of my mother, just brought me to tears. As far as the shop, it is spotless, comfortable, and completely professional. I have had my nose jewelry replaced by both piercers and they were also terrific guys, kind and friendly. I was pierced here by some girl back in 2010 and while the customer service was great, she didn't autoclave the jewelry. The jewelry was sitting in a cup of blue liquid and I was like "woah wait a second, was that autoclaved?" She told me, "It's the same thing." NO way. There's a big difference between something that's sterilized and something that's disinfected. A proper place will show you your jewelry being autoclaved. The needles were clean, so I ended up getting pierced anyway (cause I'm dumb I guess) and overall my lip healed without any issue. read more

I love Brooklyn Ink so much that I drive there from Philly in my busted ass car and pay close to $30 in tolls (let's not even talk about the gas!) just to get tattooed by Alex Franklin. I've been going to him for 5 years; I found his work randomly online and started a sleeve with him when he was working out of a shop in Haledon, NJ. I have a full sleeve, a full chest piece and 2 pieces on my leg thanks to Alex. His line work is steady and consistent and his shading is amazing. He always makes me comfortable and we have a good time laughing it up. Everyone at the shop is super nice and I always feel welcome; they are real bunch of super professional and talented dudes. Meh. I have had better experiences in other places. Kind of a macho, goofy, nerd guy vibe. Tried something small. Won't be back. Wasn't upset but wasn't thrilled either. Also, you gotta love grouchy tattoo artists with no manners and filthy insulting mouths who resent criticism. Not a place for you if you are looking for superior work. Do not go for piercing. One of them was loudly talking about how he hates doing it and hates those types of customers. Tattoo places can be gruff but no one wants an obviously angry man cutting into their flesh. It's an okay place, I guess. The guys are friendly and price per hour is a decent, but the work is only so-so. It took 3 sessions to complete -- this tattoo could have been done in one 3 hour session instead of three 1 hour sessions. The outlining that was done was pretty bad -- some areas weren't straight, shading was very obviously missing in some areas -- it just looked very amateurish. I'd go back again for piercings or a small piece, but I'll look elsewhere for large pieces. read more

I went here with a friend, who told me that I should get my ink here. Against my better judgement (I was planning on going to my tattoo artist after she got hers done here), I gave in and got my tattoo here. It was a very simple NY Yankees symbol tattoo, with half of it filled in with yellow and the other half with blue. The lines are HORRENDOUS, and some of the blue and yellow overlapped, causing green. I don't remember the artist's name, but I guess the saying "you get what you pay for" works here, because it's a fairly large tattoo and I was only charged $60. I should have known better, and never will I ever stray from my artist ever again. read more
