We talked about what I wanted, She showed real interest in a raw design idea of mine. A small thing of straight lines, concentric circles and a Chinese character that, as a whole, represented deeper things only to me. She recommended Mike G. who she said makes the cleanest lines and showed me samples of his work along with a couple of other artists'. My appt with Mike was a few days later. I had emailed my sketches and a reference picture for the Chinese character. He had the design ready. It was true to my idea and needed no alteration. He had it mocked up in slightly different sizes and even produced an in between size when I asked. Just around two inches was prefect. I was completely at ease with Mike from hello. And despite warnings from a friend who has several tats that the inner upper arm is a tender area, I gotta say, the screaming baby on the subway going there cause me more discomfort than Mike's needle. His lines are indeed clean, crisp, straight or even in all the right ways. Here is the character a half inch high looking like it was applied with a brush. At four weeks everything's healed very nicely. I thought I couldn't be happier with it, then I learned something special. The character which means "not yet" is also the character representing the "earthly branch" connected to my zodiac animal, the goat. I love this tattoo! Thank you Mike. Thank you Banna. I'm extremely upset with the piercing side of this shop. I asked a person there with help opening…read moreup my 8 gauge septum ring, and the first thing i noticed was the look of uncertainty. The second thing was the lack of correct equipment. He used thick rusty pliers (which is incredibly risky because this piercing is STILL HEALING!!) and scissors instead of ring opening pliers of flat nose pliers. My brand new, expensive jewlery broke in his hands without compensation. He stated "this is the risk that you take". However, no risk was stated and there was no debriefing done. I've had rings of a similar gauge opened just fine. I'm very disappointed because My jewelry broke before I could wear it out and it was a waste of money because I cannot wear it anymore. He stated to me that "i've never seen a septum piercing this large before" which i could understand, but to me it shows that he should've declined the job if he knew he didn't have experience in it. This is my second weird experience with my septum piercing at this shop. The first time was when the piercer tried telling me what gauge i was at (assumed 16) and debated with me about with me knowing it was a 12. Then proceeded to say 20 gauge is thicker and 16 is thinner, which is opposite. The people on the piercing side here do not know what they are doing.

With the industry being oversaturated these days with wannabe "tattoo artists", Brooklyn Ink without a doubt stays one step ahead of the game. The moment you walk into the shop you know that these guys take what they do very seriously and have a passion not many others can match. Other than the shop being a very clean and sterol environment, the friendly yet professional atmosphere is what really separates them from their competitors. For just about a year I have been getting tattooed there and every experience is a memorable one to say the least. I have received many custom pieces and have been more the pleased with all of them. Every customer I have ever seen as always been satisfied and always makes it a point to return for more work. From hanging out at the shop I have witnessed all of the artists Old School Alex, Joe Mags and Rob Keansburg giving their customers what they want not only when they're sitting in the chair getting tattooed, but the preparation and effort that goes into all of their already prestigious work. They work hard at every piece they do and have earned every ounce of respect given to them. Let us not forget their piercer, shop hand and now apprentice Matt Huff. I myself do not have any piercings but would recommend him to anyone that I know. You can go to your regular Joe Shmo piercer down the street from your house and get a piercing and not know whether or not they're doing a good job or you could come to him and he will thoroughly explain the procedure not only to the service you are about to receive but in caring for your new body modification. My point is simple, you can go to your generic lick em and stick em tattoo shop and get a half hearted job in which you'll probably end up getting fixed. Or you could go to a shop such as Brooklyn Ink and put your ideas in the hands of people who really care about what they do and get an amazing piece of art that will remain on your body until the day you die. read more

I was trying to decide where to get my first tattoo and my girlfriend recommended this place and I must say that she was right. Joe was my tattoo artist and did a kick-ass dragon tattoo just how I wanted it. It did not hurt much and he was very respectful of how I wanted it and how to approach it. This shop is small but It is clean, very professional and everyone here is kind and they all make you feel at home. They are all very skilled and they all showcase some incredible art. Brooklyn Ink is not about just taking your money and doing what ever they can just to get it like most places. They are what a tattoo artist should be. This was my fourth tat (the first 3 were not done at this location) and I have to say, that I'm most pleased with this shop. I made an appointment with Luis for 5 PM. I arrived a little late, about 5:15 but it worked out as he was not finishing someone up. I waited patiently (and a little nervously lol) as he finished the client. I observed him sanitize and throughly clean his area before he invited me over to talk. He talked with me about the design I wanted, and he created the stencil. I loved the stencil and Luis confidently reassured me that I would be fine, that he would be gentle with the needle, and that it should take about 30 mins. All great reassurance (me personally I love when a worker can confidently reassure their customer) We began and it was over in no time. It didn't hurt me at all, but like I've stated this is my 4th tattoo and it was also in a great spot. I was also happy with the overall cleanliness of the shop and the staffs professionalism. My only downfall I would just say the size of the overall shop. It is definitely on the small side but they did a great job at setting up each artist's station with sturdy opaque partitions in between. I will definitely be back and I definitely recommend. Apologies for no photos of the shop- I was just so nervous and preoccupied prior to getting my tat lol .Here is a photo of it though :)

I arrived a few minutes early and they were ready for me, the artist made a few stencils before I arrived, I was already in the system and setup, asked if I wanted something to eat or coffee. Quickly seated at the artist's station and the exact size and position were determined. Kathleen Martello is a very talented artist and a pleasure to spend time with, answers all questions, addresses any concerns. Very happy with the work, this was my third time she has done work for me. The atmosphere is very calm clean and professional. Pricing was very reasonable.

I came into my appointment, and he was amazing. The place is clean, smells good, and the appearance is amazing. They provided me with whatever I needed, and Matt was extremely personable, funny, and did an amazing job! I was nervous to get the tattoo, but the experience made it so much easier! This place is a little out of my range, but I will be 100% making the 45 minute commute for my next tattoo as well as recommending this place to everyone!
