Hmmm, the aesthetics of Brooklyn Dumpling Shop are nice inside, and their concept is innovative, but I wasn't impressed by the actual food. Like many, you've probably seen this place online and thought, "It looks cool to try." Well, that's exactly what I did one evening. Parking was tricky to find because of a festival going on at the time, but thankfully I found a spot nearby. Let me tell you, I was hype to try Brooklyn Dumpling Shop. I walked in, ordered my food at the kiosk, and waited excitedly for my food to come out of one of the takeout doors. You can hear and kind of see the staff behind the doors, and I noticed a customer came in with several questions, which the staff answered. I ordered their vegetable dumplings for an appetizer and the BK Famous Peanut Noodles with crispy shrimp. Unfortunately, everything tasted like it was frozen and warmed up in the microwave. It reminded me of those frozen bag meals from the grocery store that you throw in a skillet, hoping it tastes like the picture on the front of the bag. This place has so much potential. This place is ok. I would compare it to the Amazon locker of Asian dumplings. I had the Korean bbq beef dumplings. I really liked how you can choose what to order and what kind of dipping sauces without even talking to a human. You even pay at the kiosk. I also like how you can choose from crispy or seared dumplings. There are also a numerous amount of different sauces to choose from. The range goes from Greek tzaziki sauce to peanut sauce to soy sauce. There is a screen that lets you know where in the process your dumplings are. They put it in this locker type thing when it is done and then you use the receipt to pick up your food. There isn't a lot of seating if you are trying to dine in. I also had no clue how to enter the restroom since the door required a code and there were no forward facing employees. Like I said before the Korean bbq dumplings were sub par to par at best. They do give 3 dumplings for 6 bucks which is an ok deal but it definitely tasted like Costco bought dumplings. The Korean bbq didn't taste like Korean bbq and it was kind of runny when I bit into it. This place is nice for on the go food similar to Taco Bell or Panda Express. read more

Darn! I was looking forward to trying Brooklyn Dumpling but I was sadly disappointed. We ordered a mix of dumplings. Buffalo Chicken, Teriyaki Chicken and Mac and Cheese. We didn't like any of them. The mac tasted artificial, the buffalo chicken was not appetizing at all and the Teriyaki was just okay. I also ordered waffles fries. Now they were delicious and the portion was huge! I also ordered a lychee lemonade which also wasn't very good. Pros: + Even though there's a wall separating you from the staff, I peaked my head in to see what was going on and the woman working was very sweet and helpful. + The peanut sauce is very good. + Open until 2am on weekends for your late night snacking needs. + Super easy order ahead process for those who want to walk in, scan a code, and be on their way. + Leaning into the Philly love with their graphics and murals. Cons: + Unfortunately most of the items we ordered (KBBQ dumplings, peanut noodles, soup) fell flat. The dumplings lacked flavor, the peanut noodles lacked substance, and the soup would really only be great if you're sick and need some heat in your sinuses. + The impersonal vibes are not for me. I would much prefer to support real people and have the service experience when I stop by. Essentially, going somewhere a bit more delicious where I can also say hi to a human and engage in that way. + We ordered at the kiosk since this was a last minute decision and the food still took about 15-20 minutes to be ready. Not impressed with my takeout experience, and trying to figure out how to get a refund at least for my one item, "porky soupy". The description reads "3 or 5 steamed dumpling filled with pork, broth and spices" and the picture shows a dumpling with some chili oil in the background. What I got was some dumplings in not good tasting broth, shaped like soup dumplings, but I have no idea if they are because every single one of them was busted open, and I noticed very pink on the inside after eating 2, so I couldn't even eat them and now get to worry about getting sick. Is this supposed to come on broth? If it is, fix your description and picture. The other 2 dumplings that I got online look pan fried, these are clearly deep fried. Flavors were fine but the dough is too thick. With Dumpling Shop in the name, the dumplings should be so much better. Don't give this chain your money. read more

I've been here a couple times and really enjoy it! I think the food is good for the price and service is really fast. The side of edamame gets you a huge tub of it, which I love, and I love the variety of dumplings. We came here shortly after it opened and I was excited. There were few people in the joint when we showed. The food feels lightly uninspired.
