The first and last time I was here was years ago - in 2012. I remember I got a breakfast bagel and an orange juice, and it was nothing special. Despite attending Chico State and being downtown frequently, I never came here. I revisited very recently for Taste of Chico. Not much changed - the restaurant looked almost exactly as I had remembered it. It's not very big and is dimly lit inside. I was eager to try this place again because they were giving away free smoothies and bagels for Taste of Chico. I went in and said I was here to try the items. They had me give them 2 tickets [you get 8 tickets for Taste of Chico] to try both items. When I got the items, I was extremely disappointed. The woman at the counter handed me a teeny tiny container used for sauces and then a bagel that was no better than one I could get at the grocery store with a side of butter. You'd think they would put in more effort if they wanted to reel in more customers. What a WASTE of my tickets! Other businesses were giving away much, much larger portions. I came here to get a quick bite to eat, just a jalapeño Parmesan bagel, toasted with butter. I noticed that many people seemed to be waiting for their orders for a while. I ended up waiting over 30 minutes for a bagel with butter and staff did not apologize for the wait or offer me a refund. My order was completely forgotten about, and then when they finally inputted it into their order system, it took ridiculously long. When I eventually got my bagel I realized I could have went to Safeway, bought Thomas bagels, and made a better toasted bagel myself. Bagel had no crisp to it and was thin and soggy. Pretty ironic to have a bagel shop titled Brooklyn Bagel Works when there is no hustle. read more

I have never left a review on any site like this before now which should say a lot seeing as how I am now making the effort to post one. I am profoundly disappointed to see that the charming little breakfast and lunch nook I spent time going to in my high school years has been sterilized and turned into a gentrified millennial tiktok influencer hellscape. Gone are the days of interesting murals on the wall, or a very homely menu hanging from the ceiling. Every last thing that made this business interesting under the previous owners has been stripped away and replaced with lifeless white walls and a few generic 'Live, Laugh, Love.' esque picture frames ordered off of Etsy. But the food is still good right? No, my dear reader. For reasons beyond understanding, these chucklefucks somehow managed to ruin that as well. I ordered the hangover helper and what I received was not the delicious and tasteful sandwich of the past but some nightmarish amalgamation of bland eggs, anorexic sausage, and what I can only describe as a generous helping of macslop that looked like it had taken a bit too much Zinc. I could forgive a shoddy atmosphere, but I cannot forgive whatever this unholy abomination was. I ate the sandwich and immediately afterwards felt less empty than I did before eating it. The mac and cheese completely overwhelmed the other flavors and that is incredible given that I got the sandwich and onion and garlic bagels. So okay, the sandwich was mediocre--Maybe the potatoes would be okay? Wrong, again. The potatoes when I would get them in years past were always seasoned and cooked to perfection. Just enough to be crispy, but not enough to feel like I was crunching down on a chip. I opened the container and my eyes did witness a most troubling sight. Not a single ounce of moisture was to be seen within the container. I precariously placed a forkful of the potatoes into my mouth and it felt like I had just put the entirety of the sahara into it. Not only were they exceedingly dry, but they were seasoned with what I could only describe as a hint of salt and pepper. My disappointment at this point was nearing rock bottom, but it would pierce through said bottom and enter the deepest, darkest reaches once I took a sip of the coffee. I am a truly forgiving and merciful person at heart, but the moment the coffee out of everything else is the single worst thing then all bets are off. In years past, they used to have a counter lined with different coffees from Cal Java and a few other local businesses. Now? It's two dispensers filled with what I can only describe as whatever backwater swill they were able to grab off of Amazon for cheap. I tried their medium blend without creamer (Because for some reason they didn't have the creamer out beforehand????) and let me tell you, it was the foulest thing I ever had the displeasure of putting in mouth since my ex. It was overly bitter, stale, and provided absolutely no joy to my life. I will never return to this place, and I highly encourage those that value their money and time to go elsewhere. You people have turned this place into a gentrified hellscape that is part and whole of the reason why people make fun of our generation. Yes, I am a millennial too. Shocker. Used to come here during my undergrad at Chico State. I absolutely loved this place! The most authentic bagels and the best cream cheese. Literally 5 stars. 5 years later , a new owner and I can't believe the quality of this place has gone down. They say they have the same recipe but the bagels are shit and so thin. The bagels use to be thick. They said they use the same bagel recipe but I highly doubt it, they're probably cutting corners. The cream cheese is watery, it shouldn't even be classified as cream cheese. They put very little cream cheese on my bagel but it managed to make my bagel soggy. What kind of cream cheese does that? It was more like a sauce. My suggestion is if you're going to keep the name Brooklyn Bridge Bagel Works, maybe go to Brooklyn NY and eat a bagel, because this was disgraceful. The service was not great. The woman who took my order didn't greet me and seemed to have an attitude with other customers . The place was ok, they remodeled recently. They wanted to go for a more modern vibe, but honestly I would've focused more on the quality of food than ambience. Hadn't been to this place in a while, but had a taste for the Hot Pastrami Sando. Placed order for a couple of Sandos, and had coworker pick it up. WOW, to say I was disappointed is an understatement! I was nothing like I was used to. Typically this Sammy comes with pastrami, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, mustard and mayo and is delishhhhh!!!, What I got today was pastrami, mustard, and some sweet crappy coleslaw!!!! Yucckkkkk! It was gross, and the price with tax was $13.00!! Just OK, disorganized and over priced. Stopped in this morning for a bagel and first thing I noticed is that they were really disorganized. The people behind the counter weren't even acknowledging customers that were waiting in line (they seem distracted with something ). I was eventually able to place my order, but the process for a simple order was tedious and I can't imagine what it would've been like if I had ordered a sandwich or something more complicated. The next surprise came when they rang me up and charged six bucks for a plain bagel with plain cream cheese, and then another five dollars for a soda. I love cinnamon raisins bagels, but not these. I purchased six of them from Brooklyn Bridge Bagel Works at 6:30 A.M. yesterday morning (I was the first customer). I took them home and started to eat one immediately. It was dry, overcooked, hard, and had no cinnamon smell with few (I counted three) raisins. I thought I got a bad one, so I tried another. Same and only four raisins in it. I cut up the others and the max raisins found was four in one bagel. None smelled or tasted like cinnamon spice. I dumped them in the trash where they belonged. They don't boil the bagels before baking, makes for bread like bagels instead of dense and moist. I can get those from safeway. Schmear was cold, bagel was toasted, cold schmear won out the temperature differential. Bagel dogs are from frozen, should bake a few each morning. Coffee was good. Only actual bagel shop in town, so I was really hoping for a better experience. If the people that manage/own the shop are not far from having a 5 star place, but it would take a little money to spruce the place up and a reboot on the food with some added steps. I doubt anyone is starting work at 3am based upon the finished product. Definitely a little hole in the wall. They do great bagels but I've had at least three times where I ordered no onions and got onions. Clearly staff is lazy with reading the tags and if I had an allergy to onions I would have been running to the emergency room. Definitely check your order before you leave incase they need to remake something. First time I went in there to order in person the lady who took my order was very rude. I don't like leaving negative reviews but here's my first (& most likely last) experience here: The employees were very unwelcoming, the establishment was dirty & they put together the food without gloves. Bare hands shouldn't touch cooked food, in my opinion. The breakfast sandwiches we got were just okay. Had the bagels been toasted more I think they would have been much better, but that might just be personal preference. Super nice people, helpful and accommodating, great bagels and it looks like their breakfast sandwiches are on point too. We also got smoothies, they were good but wouldn't get one everyday, too much syrup for sweetener, would recommend some all fruit versions to compete with Jamba down the street (which is closed for a number of hours that Brooklyn bagel is open). Parking can be about sticky but it's a short walk to any of the downtown parking. read more

We were still up from the night before and we needed some breakfast sandwhiches to put an end to the night on the town. I called in a Traditional Lox Sandwhich, The Super Bagel and a Cinnamon Sugar Butter Bagel. They told me less than 10 mins I could swing by & pick it up. Went in and got my order and came back home. This was my first time trying this establishment for breakfast. I think it's pretty cool that they have a little place like this in Chico. Overall, the sandwhiches were pretty basic. The price point is what you would expect for a breakfast sandwhich. It didn't have any crazy flavors that jumped out at you when you took a bite but it was indeed filling. It felt a bit on the dry side as I was eating. Definitely keep a drink handy. I would come back but I would probably try a few different breakfast places around town before settling on this one as my go-to. Thanks guys! read more

I love Brooklyn Bagels. When I was living in Chico this was always my go to breakfast place. I'm not a huge breakfast person since I can not eat meat or eggs. The best thing to do is grab a bagel and potatoes and then head to Dutch bros and head back home to eat breakfast in bed. This is really the best thing when hungover.... Come on, it's Chico! The sun dried tomato basil cream cheese is everything. I love the flavor of this cream cheese. Even years later it still tastes the same. All their bagels are delicious. I've never had a bad flavor. Also their day old sale is awesome. Only a day old not bad! I keep store bought bagels for over a week so day old is still fresh to me. The potatoes have really great flavor as well. Overall this is a great breakfast and will keep you full almost all day. Great for a hungover stomach and mind haha. read more

Was in Chico for a week of training at California State University, Chico. I have a think for Lox (or that style of smoked salmon) on an everything toasted bagel for breakfast. Found Brooklyn Bridge Bagel works on yelp and it was only a couple blocks from CSUC. Stopped in twice during the week and will go back during my next training session in March. School was not in session when I went so parking out front was easy and service was prompt. When I walked in there was a table of older gentleman who eagerly said good morning when I made eye contact with one of them. This used to be my favorite place to get bagels in Chico, but recently they have removed all of the decor that made it unique, raised their prices, they have less bagel options than before, and they are putting significantly less meat/egg on the bagels. Best bagels on the west coast! I've been frequenting this establishment for nearly 30 years and the quality is still excellent. We love the breakfast and lunch bagel sandwich options, the breakfast potatoes, and the service best of all. I've had a bagel bar for my staff and these guys hooked me up with some amazing options of bagels and different spreads. It was a great breakfast for my staff, and everyone was so pleased! We stopped here on the morning we were leaving town for light breakfast and it was the perfect choice. I was a little sad they didn't have a few tables outside because we ended up eating in our car since we were about to hit the road, but the food was good enough to forgive that. I got a jalepeno pepper jack bagel with sun dried tomato smear. It was perfectly toasted and had the perfect amount of smear. The flavor was fantastic as well. It really took a breakfast staple like bagel with cream cheese and took it to the next level. The wall sized mural of the Brooklyn Bridge and New York skyline was pained over and replaced with a "artistic representation" of the only Brooklyn bridge.
