Using Brooklyn Bark to walk my Boston Terrier was the best decision I have ever made! My dog is a rescue who was badly abused and he has a lot of problems. He can be aggressive with other dogs and sometimes with people. I used a couple of other dog walking services before Brooklyn Bark and my dog actually ended up biting the other walkers due to anxiety. Since we've been using Brooklyn Bark, he has completed changed. He is happy, walks with other dogs without aggression and has begun to trust people again. The walkers took the time to learn his issues and his cues and he loves them all. I get daily updates from them with pictures, which comforts me to no end. Brooklyn Bark has "saved the day" for us so many times with our Golden Retriever puppy, Mara. When she was tiny we needed an emergency sitter and they were able to fit us in last-minute for a half-day. The founder, Rachel, got on a call with us and took down all of Mara's information, and from that moment I knew how seriously they take the well being of all of the pets they care for. Mara immediately fell in love with Katie from Brooklyn Bark when she first came to stay with her, and since we have done multiple training sessions with Rachel and walks with Katie and Donovan. Mara knows it's them coming down the hall and waits by the door wagging her whole body. When Rachel comes, it's like Mara's favorite aunt has showed up! The team always takes care to text when they are on their way, sends followup recommendations for continued training and resources, and so much more. I couldn't recommend them more! read more

HUGE fan of Brooklyn Bark! These guys are the best. Rachel, Colleen, and the rest of the staff are friendly, helpful, and responsive! I have been using them for about a year for my cat, and have been always had an excellent experience. They utilize an easy to use online scheduling system and then QR code when they arrive. I travel a lot last minute for work and have never had an issue scheduling for a sitter. The sitters are also fantastic - they send detailed summaries of their visit and pictures! Garrett and Ryan are two of our favorites. They always send adorable pictures and funny but informative summaries of the visit. When I had emergency surgery - they immediately were able to send someone over to feed the little guy while I was at the hospital and made themselves available to help out when I recovered. Looks good on the surface, but is a logistical nightmare to work with. I signed up for Brooklyn Bark services in May of 2017. It is now August. It has only been 3 months, and we have given Brooklyn Bark several chances to get it together. But we have had enough. At first, everything seemed great. The first walker came to the house for a "meet and greet." We did a few walks. They send you a pic of your pup on the walk, which is nice. And give you a cool update about how s/he did on the walk, etc. Then, in June, I discovered that a new person would be walking our dog. I did not know this person. I never met this person. And I did not know that she was the person walking our dog until AFTER Brooklyn Bark wrote to me saying that the original walker had moved on to find new work. So, essentially, a stranger was coming in and out of my home, with my keys, handling my puppy, and I had no idea who this person was. Brooklyn Bark apologized and put me on the phone with the new walker. I felt fine. And comfortable. All it took was a simple conversation, and it was crazy to me that BB never even offered to have one w/ me from the outset. I felt comfortable with this person. Then I learned that she was away. Again, AFTER another stranger had walked our dog. Again, I was upset about this. I felt that the business should notify its customers about WHO is going in and out of the home. And the fact that they offer that initial "meet and greet," makes me think that they KNOW it is important too. It's courtesy. It's professional. You just have to tell customers who is taking care of their family and home. Then, they apologized again and agreed to comp me 2 walks. Fine. Flash forward to the next bill. I've been charged for 2 walks. I had to call/email. Explained we had an agreement. Another apology later and I was finally comped the walks. Since then, I have had doubts about them. I have used them as a last resort. Asking friends and family first. But recently, I had to work a double shift at work, and I scheduled 3 days in advance 2 walks in one day. The day arrives for BB to walk my dog. The first day in a long while. They were scheduled for 12pm and 5pm. I am running around like a crazy person at work, trying to focus on my life, when 5pm rolls around and I realize I have not received an email or update re the puppy's walk midday. I email and ask if anyone arrived at the house. I get a response: "Sorry for the mixup." "We're sending someone over right now." Well, I was livid. My poor dog had been left alone from 8am to 5pm without her meals, without walks, without a visitor, all while we are specifically trying to housetrain her and give her a loving, nurturing home. She was abandoned by Brooklyn Bark. They assured me they'd comp the next walk. Well, there will be no next walk. Do not go with this company if you are someone who has a job. You will be deeply disappointed, infuriated, and will be broke as well (they charge more than anyone around for unreliable service!). You will feel like you have to juggle work and puppy care. And that's not fair when you have paid a company to care for your loved one. Find friends and other off-the-record walkers to take care of your home and puppy. I can't say enough to express how much I love the people at Brooklyn Bark. I travel quite a bit for work and have used them several times to check in on my cat. They come to my apartment and make sure my cat is taken care of -- feeding her, cleaning the litter box, etc. Every time they visit, I get an email alerting me of their arrival. And then I get another email upon their departure, including entertaining commentary on their interaction with my cat, along with photos. Brooklyn Bark more than exceeded our expectations. We are relatively new to Williamsburg and have had some trouble finding a reliable dog walking service to use when we take trips out of town. We used Brooklyn Bark's dog-walking and cat-sitting services for the last four years in Fort Greene. Before the pandemic, we had our dog walked every work day, and our cat was visited when we would go on long trips. Every walk and every visit would come complete with a note from the walker, and usually with a photo. The walker was almost always consistent from day to day, which was very helpful for our distrustful-of-humans dog to learn to like people other than us, and nice for us to not be worried about who might be coming into our apartment each day. On days when our regular walker was not available, Brooklyn Bark would send us an email ahead of time to let us know of the change and introduce us to them. If we randomly ran into our regular walker on the street, our dog would always be so happy to see them, and it was really heart-warming to see her excited (rather than scared) about something outside. It was also great for our dog to be walked with one or two other dogs to help her become more socialized, and never walk in large packs. As some other reviews mentioned, the web app for booking was not always the easiest or most intuitive to use, and we almost never were able to see the route on the GPS tracking (so we stopped looking at it altogether), but the service was so good compared to other walkers and sitters that we'd used that we moved past that. Not all of the walkers are of equal quality, but our regular walkers were very good. If you do want extra services they do cost extra and they can build up pretty quickly, but it is very nice that those extra services exist and that the walker/sitters complete them and are trained to do them well (like medicating grumpy cats). We love Brooklyn Bark! We found them right when we moved to Brooklyn, and I started work sooner than expected and needed a dog walker in like... 2 days. Brooklyn Bark stepped up with an immediate in-person visit, and I could always rely on them, which meant I could focus on starting my new job instead of worrying about if my dog would pee inside. Scheduling was a bit tough, but really came into problems when a new walker was designated for the meet and greet who was very unresponsive so it was hard for me to balance with a very busy schedule. I've had mixed experiences with Brooklyn Bark, and I'm honestly not sure if I'll be using them again. They did a fantastic job of taking care of our pet rabbits previously, however, it was a different story when we asked them to take care of our two kittens. In addition to filling out both of their pet profiles, I also print everything out because I imagine it's probably annoying to scroll through things on a phone. Anyway, they were doubly informed of our expectations. We had 3 major issues that we didn't share with them outside of this Yelp review, because it just didn't seem worth it. I kind of get the feeling that they do really well with dogs and dog walking and that they hire tons of folks who might not stick around or work as often as other, so you end up getting a different person each time. I think we had 3 different folks take care of the cats for the week that we were gone, so I'm not sure who did what--if that makes sense. We gave specific instructions to keep an eye on both cats when feeding them because one eats really quickly and the other eats very slowly. The quick-eater will then move on to eating the slow one's food, and the slow one just isn't aggressive enough to fight back, so he'll walk away. I just confirmed this, but I did NOT put that information into their pet profile online, and it was only printed out for them. We came home to one nearly 10-pound KITTEN and one who'd lost half his body weight (not exaggerating). I can understand overlooking the printed instructions, and maybe it's my fault for not putting that into their pet profile, but if you were feeding two cats and you were watching them--wouldn't you notice that what was happening wasn't right? Wouldn't you proactively try to separate the two? Furthermore, one of the sitters did apparently read our printed instructions, because she communicated to us that she tried to keep them apart, but it was hard. That's fair. The second issue we experienced was coming home to two extremely dirty bowls. A week's worth of food was crusted all over the bowls--it was truly disgusting. I can't believe my poor kittens were eating out of those bowls while we were gone. Again, perhaps this is my fault for not explicitly asking them to wash out their food bowls in their pet profiles or the printed instructions... but I didn't think I needed to ask for something so obvious. If the bowl looks dirty before you feed them, why wouldn't you clean it out first? I didn't think I needed to specifically ask them to do that. Lastly, their litterbox area was a complete mess. Apparently, one kitten had pooped on the floor next to their litterbox. Instead of cleaning it up, I'm not totally sure what happened. To me, it looked like they just picked up the poop and threw it out. The floor was disgusting and sticky and had poop still on it that'd been now smeared and tracked across our apartment. Again, I totally understand that things happen. Perhaps the sitter didn't feel comfortable looking for a Clorox Wipe or any other cleaning supplies. That's completely okay--I get that. But at the very least, there was running water and a roll of paper towels front and center. I just expected a little better cleanup for that situation. I don't think I'm being unreasonable, but these things make me feel a little uneasy about using them again for cat check-ins. There's a lot of competition out there, so I may be going in a different direction in the future. read more

After using a different dog walking service, that was lackluster and left me feeling like my then 10 week old puppy wasn't special, I knew that our ridiculously adorable and awesome Red Leopard Catahoula pup Finn deserved better care for those unfortunate times when we couldn't tend to him. Fortuitously, my boyfriend turned me on to Brooklyn Bark. Two days after I contacted them, Rachel and Jason showed up and spent an hour at my apt, getting to know Finn, me and really setting a tone from the get go of genuine care, nurture, and rapport. When we had to leave town a few times and couldn't take Finn with us, Rachel happily took Finn for the day (walking him over 4 miles while visiting/walking other dogs and running every aspect of her business) and I'm pretty sure they formed a bond as tight as could be. This past week, we had to go to Jamaica for a wedding and needed to board Finn for 5 days, which Helen ("Barkmaster" and Rachel's mother) offered to do in her upstate home where Finn had the privilege of also being sat by Helen's wonderful German Shepherd, Remy. From videos to at least 15 pics a day, let alone play-by-play updates, Helen's correspondence could not have been more thorough, welcome, and beyond expectations, especially since I was none too keen on leaving Finn in the hands of anyone. We have truly found an extended family in the entire Brooklyn Bark crew; I'm completely confident that Rachel, Helen, Remy, and Jason adore Finn as much as I do and they take the time to offer advice and even provide on-the-spot remedies (Helen found a solution for Finn's lack of appetite/diarrhea and even left supplemental puppy food in my refrigerator!; Rachel got Finn first aid treatment for a wound in the midst of their fundraiser last weekend; Finn even went on a boat ride during his extended staycation and played in the water with Remy...their warmth, love, and expertise when it comes to canine business is peerless). Bottom line: if your dog's well-being and happiness are important to you, Brooklyn Bark is the only dog-walking/sitting/boarding services you should consider. Biased, yes, but they are the real deal!! read more

Nick was a great cat sitter who sent me pictures and detailed reports while I was away. Nick gets 5 stars, the rest of the organization gets zero. I left for vacation Friday night and e-mailed to check in with Brooklyn Bark Monday evening. I received a response Tuesday morning (three and a half days since I'd left) informing me no one had been to my apartment to feed my cat. This was after NUMEROUS phone calls with Brooklyn Bark, confirmation emails, key drop-off, etc. I spoke to them the day I left for vacation, yet when I called to check on my kitty, BB acted like they didn't know what I was talking about and tried to make it sound like my fault. It then took THREE HOURS to get someone to my apartment and make sure Theo was alive. Apparently there was an issue with my online registration, and therefore my scheduling was not entered into their petsitting calendar. I realize there was a glitch in the system, but they knew my vacation plans so it still shouldn't have been an issue. And the way it was handled was all wrong. I've been assured that the online registration process has since changed, but I will never find out because I won't ever use the services of Brooklyn Bark again. I was only charged for the days that Nick actually took care of Theo, but I feel I should have received a refund due to their terrible mistake. I asked for such, was refused, and my follow-up attempt was ignored. This is a good service in theory, and judging from all of the positive reviews many people have had good experiences. I'm glad for that, but my experience was awful and Brooklyn Bark didn't seem to think it was a very big deal or that my needs should be respected. Big fat 0 for customer service. read more

Online booking is easy and we love that we get a notification when our visit starts and ends, along with several photos and a thorough description of how the visit went. Let me begin by saying I am very pleased with Brooklyn Bark's customer service and the organization of their business. If you are looking for a responsible service with workers that truly listen to your concerns and try their best to meet you and your dogs needs, look no further. A few weeks ago I was desperately looking for an at-home pet sitter to watch my four-month old pit for a weekend. After checking other pet services and leaving numerous voice mails and emails, I was so relieved when Brooklyn Bark responded to my request that same day in a few hours. The Bark Master, who runs billing and customer service is a sweet woman who really listens to what you need and tries her best to match you with the appropriate service. Throughout the whole process, I felt very assured that I was on their radar and within a few days I had created my account, found my sitter, scheduled a meet and greet with the prospective sitter and locked in the days I needed on their online system. My sitter scanned in when he arrived to walk her and I received immediate email notifications which gave me peace of mind that somebody was indeed watching and feeding her. I was able to text my sitter for updates, to which he replied to, and when I requested photos, he sent me some photos. I'm the kind of person that needs total assurance that what I requested is being completed, and I feel like Brooklyn Bark did a good job of meeting my needs and my pup's. My only complaint was that there was one night I was particularly worried when I texted my sitter on an update (this was during the overnight service and I texted around 6pm) and he didn't respond till the next morning. Granted the next day he answered my concerns and sent me photos, but I went to bed a little anxious. Brooklyn Bark is also phenomenal in the way they handled this matter: after hearing my concern, the company quickly addressed it to their workers. The reason they deserve 5 stars, besides the fact that they truly love the animals and their work, is that they are constantly seeking to improve and fine tune their service so that they can cultivate the optimal service. I returned from my trip to find my dog healthy, and fairly happy, and my house in order. My sitter cleaned up a small mess she made when she got her paws on a box and ripped it up, which I appreciated and he also brought in our mail. He also called me at the end of the service to see if I had gotten back alright and if he needed to go and give her her dinner and another walk. I appreciated the follow up phone call very much. I think I will definitely use this service again because it's easy to book, I know for sure when my appointments start, and the service is responsible. read more

My doggie with anxiety issues LOVES Rachel; she spends time doing brief training excercises during their walks, and his behavioral issues markedly improved as a result. Brooklyn Bark has been wonderful for us for many reasons. Most importantly - they provide reliable service and trustworthy care for my dog, Wally. I've used both the walking and "sleepover" service - the adorable name they use for overnight boarding, which isn't traditional boarding but rather having your pet stay overnight with one of their certified dog walkers. We were lucky enough to have Alex for both services, and I couldn't ask for a better match for my dog. He is easy going, caring, and kind - it's really clear that he genuinely cares for the animals he takes care of. While we were gone, he not only took care of Wally but took him for lots of walks to make sure he got enough exercise and could relax in his new environment. I felt 110% comfortable leaving Wally with him after a short meet and greet and a walk with Alex. It's the kind of peace of mind that you really want when entrusting your dog to someone else's care. In addition to great service and care (which is enough on its own!), I really have to commend BB for running a solid business. You can request services digitally on their online tool, which makes things really easy. And they have a system in place that lets you know via email when your dog has been picked up and dropped off so that you don't have to worry at all that walks have taken place as expected. Overall, I think finding great, loving care for our dog AND a business that is tech savvy and so easy to do business with is a rare find and huge win. I highly recommend. read more

Have you ever met a person who adores their dog to no end. Well that would be me. I would do the world for my pup Tugboat and that made moving to Brooklyn a scary change. I have never let anyone watch or walk Tugboat but knew with the hours I work and living alone with him I had to find someone. Brooklyn Bark is just wonderful. When we first registered, Chuck came over and met our two kitties, taking meticulous notes on all the funny little things that our cats are particular about. Since then, we have left town several times and Chuck has taken wonderful care of them each time! The QR code fridge magnet is ingenious, and the fact that we know exactly when our pets are being visited eases our minds immensely. The notes we get from Chuck via email at the end of each visit are wonderful! We miss our pets so much when we are away, so just to hear that one of them was playful or cuddly or anything else is such a bright spot. The online system for reserving cat visits is easy to use, and Helen has always quickly come to my rescue when I haven't been sure whether I did it correctly or not. Trying to find someone to trust with your dog can feel impossible...until you meet Rachel and the team at Brooklyn Bark. As soon as she walked into my apartment my cat and dog (Tucker) were literally all over her. She knelt down to say hello and my dog climbed into her lap (the last time I tried out a dog walker, Tucker ran and hid on the couch). I was almost entirely sold just on his reaction. When I saw that she had a folder prepared that included references and an example of the monthly newsletter I could tell how invested in the animals she is, and was convinced that this would be the team to trust with Tucker. Rachel goes above and beyond what I would expect of a dog walker. She makes sure Tucker's potty pad is clean for him, that he gets long walks, and that he makes dog friends (something I have been struggling with when I walk him). We emailed Brooklyn Bark very last-minute in the hopes of finding a dog-sitter for our two dogs over the xmas vacation. They went out of their way to find a sitter, despite it being such a busy time for them. They were really friendly and professional (a bunch of our neighbors recommended them and now I see why). I used Brooklyn Bark religiously with their pre billing and pre booking for a while. Due to financial issues and my room mate at the time working from home and helping out I had to cancel that. I kept in touch thought bc my boys loved all the walkers from Brooklyn Bark. I used another service that allowed me to schedule right away when I would need a walk last minute but Today I reached out to Brooklyn Bark when I was stuck last minute and they were able to help. David their old walker was able to help and even with an issue of the front desk not being able to find the spare key I left we were able to communicate and sort it out. I could tell from the pictures David sent me that the guys were THRILLED to see him again and I was thrilled to be able to relay on such a great company for my babies. read more

As first-time pet owners, my husband and I quickly fell in love with the dog we rescued and he's become a very important part of our family. So when it came time to find a dog walker to help out, we were told about Rachel at Brooklyn Bark. Rachel is very friendly, kind to everyone, and very much an animal lover. She never walks more than a couple of dogs at a time and does training with them. Billing is not a problem, BB takes online payments, and their prices are very reasonable. But the most important factor is knowing that our doggie is completely in love with Brooklyn Bark and the feeling is mutual. read more

I loved Brooklyn Bark and the walker Milton, they were great to work with, and Milton seemed to get along with my dog, Scout. The online system was great and Colleen the scheduler was always willing to change things around when my fiancee's schedule would constantly change. It wasn't until we moved to another part of Brooklyn that i was incredibly disappointed with Brooklyn Bark. I emailed twice regarding us moving, saying our new address, and asking what the next steps were. My actual walker was CC'd on the first email, and he responded with a cute message about how he'll miss my dog. No response from anyone else regarding if they serviced the area, who the walker is in that area, etc. I emailed a second time on the last walk my dog would have in our old apartment just as a heads up. My email got forwarded to the scheduler, and she responded about having the walker leave my keys in my apartment after he was done. Again, no response on if they serviced our new area. My dog takes time to warm up to people, even if BB wasn't interested in our business anymore, an email response stating such would have be a curiosity. read more

I just had Brooklyn Bark sit my 15-year old cat for a week while I went on vacation. I was very anxious about leaving the old lady alone for so long as she can be very stand-offish (read: mean) with strangers. I could not be happier with the service and the communication. Every day I got updates accompanied with videos and photos. It really was a huge relief and allowed me to enjoy my time away knowing that my kitty was so well being looked after. I have a few more trips planned and will be able to check cat sitter off my list as I know she is in super capable hands with Brooklyn Bark. I've written one other Yelp review in my life and that was when my laundry service turned all my clothes pink, so it takes a lot for me to write one of these things. But I couldn't be happier with this place - and I never even got them to watch my dog. My fiance and I have CRAZY schedules. We are constantly traveling across the country for work at a moment's notice and our wonderful little pup Leo often gets caught in the wake. Leo is a shelter dog who doesn't respond well to change so we get pretty nervous about leaving him with anyone new, but last week we had no choice. I was out in Los Angeles, he was in Kansas City and our normal sitter was about to leave for a ski trip. I frantically searched for someone to come get our dog and came across Brooklyn Bark. I spoke with Rachel and she was calm and understanding and willing to set something us for us in less than 24 hours. Enter Nick Waldorf who heroically offered to take in our little guy ASAP. They were happy to pick him up from day care and do the entire correspondence with us while we were across the country. As these things usually go over here, our schedules changed AGAIN and I was sent home a couple days early. We had to change our plans with Brooklyn Bark twice and ended up canceling. They never even batted an eye. They were gracious and understanding and had an awesome sense of humor about the whole thing. They rock. Not only do we want to pay them to watch our dog next time, we also want to take them out to dinner. read more
