Finally got a chance to try Brooklyn Baking a couple weeks ago and brought some desserts to my family. I sampled the cream puff, an apple cupcake, a cinnamon & sugar donut, and a brownie. All of them were really good and my family enjoyed them. For me, the standout was the donut, which was light a fluffy and soo tasty. I hate dense donuts, and this was exactly the opposite. Definitely one of the better donuts I've had, and I would love to go back so I can have an entire one to myself instead of sharing. The staff was patient with me as I mulled over what to get, which was appreciated because I was exceptionally indecisive that day. We' e stopped by here many times before to grab a bag of fresh rolls to make sandwiches on Sunday while watching a game. This time however we got the rolls but also decided to try the donuts. Yes, better than Dunkin' (are those even really donuts and in what year were they made?), better than Tim Horton's, better than Krispy Kreme and better than any donut place in your town (I am talking smack to you now Wallingford) where people line up around the corner and wait an hour for. Yes, they are better, I know you're skeptical, but I'm right on this one because I've been to both places. I've been to all the places. Your old favorites suck, these are the BEST! But don't stop at donuts, the bread and rolls here are also fantastic. Fresh Ryes, Pumpernickel and Italian, sliced or unsliced and fresh out of the oven. And then there's the hot (mostly breakfast) food. I'll give you a hint, it's made with their bread which is obviously very fresh and delicious, so that's phenomenal too. You ever had a grilled cheese on bread that just came out of the oven? Pull your favorite grilled cheese truck to the side of the road and check the born on date on their bread, Brooklyn bakery is better. Finally, there are several different dessert confections that you'll also like... cookies, cannoli, brownies and cupcakes to choose from if you like that kind of thing. Got a birthday coming up, try one of their freshly baked cakes. Add all of this to the easy in, easy out location between 2 exits and 2 entrances on I84 and plenty of parking just means that the convenience is astounding. At one time the Brooklyn Bakery made the best Lithuanian Rye Bread in the World. I remember as a child crunching my teeth into that golden crisp crust. The key to that crust was baking the bread in a coal fired oven. The new owners abandoned that brick oven on John Street in favor of an electric oven on Reidville Drive. They basically killed that original bread. I tried a loaf and it was the worst rye bread I ever ate. I wish the owners would go back to using the original dough formula and baking it in a brick lined coal fired oven. read more

Ordered 50 donuts for a party by phone ahead of time. I made sure the time I would arrive and offered my credit card number. I even arrived 30 minutes earlier than I told. When I arrived the store, a girl at the register looked at me and said, "what happened to the donuts???" THEY SOLD MY ORDER TO SOMEONE ELSE. They care about selling more but don't care about the customers. They didn't remake for me. I ended up taking left-overs and I still had to pay for it. "I am sorry" is not enough. I literally came to this spot because of Yelp and now I'm writing a review about it on Yelp. Very interesting. Upside: This is truly a gem in Waterbury. When I drove up to the place, I thought that it was gonna be extremely small & almost congesting. NOT AT ALL. The place is so spacious, even though there was a continuous flow of customers there was still a lot of space. The outside of the place is very deceiving. Now let's talk about the food. I walked in and ask the lady what was their most popular donut. The first thing that came out of her mouth was the Honey Glazed Donut. She named off other flavors but I chose the Honey Glazed and let me tell you something. That donut is SO GOOD. I can actually say without a doubt that it is probably one of the best flavored donut I've had to date. In addition to the donut, which I ended up having two of (and regretting not having a 3rd) I had their breakfast plate with eggs, potatoes & bread. The potatoes were probably my favorite part of that plate. Well seasoned with a great texture. I also had a coffee, of course, it was very good as well. The workers were very nice and I loved the atmosphere of the place. I also loved the fact that they had random inspirational quotes randomly hanging from off the ceiling. Downside: Would you believe me if I told you I didn't have a downside? My biggest gripe when it comes to eating at places if I had a great experience is usually the parking but the parking was great here. So literally, no complains. At the end of the day - If you are in the area and want a very tasty donut, which are delicious and cheaper than ones from Dunkin Donuts, you will enjoy it a lot. Everything was decently priced and very good. I will definitely be back to try their sandwiches, flavored donuts & other baked goods. I travel around the country quite a bit for business. Two things I always look for: a good coffee shop and a good donut shop. I like to consider myself a "donut connoisseur". Well, at the very least, I REALLY like donuts. Found Brooklyn Baking on Yelp and with this many great reviews, couldn't go wrong. Well, they only had 5 or 6 types to choose from, my fault, I came in at 1030 a.m. I opted for a cinnamon raised and a black raspberry filled powdered. The cinnamon was very good. But the jelly filled? Easily the BEST donut I have ever had, bar none. And I eat a LOT of donuts. Hard to describe how light and fluffy and amazing this thing was. Unreal. And to top it off, the girls working the counter were very friendly. If I ever get back to this area, I will go out of my way to come here again. I suggest you do the same. read more

I've never personally purchased from here but coworkers ALWAYS get donuts from here. Sometimes they offer really unique choices. However, their best donuts are their traditional styles (glazed, jelly donut and cinnamon sugar). I'd recommend Brooklyn Baking to anyone is thinking of picking up Dunkin Donuts.
