I've been here so many times over the years I don't know how I missed writing a review for them. They're so yummy. Oh yea, that's why. I'm usually in a food coma after I'm done eating. The donuts are a drop above the rest here at Brooklyn Bakery. They are beyond delicious. Yes, like I just mentioned I've had many food coma I've come out from. The Bismarks are a favorite of mine and many others who also have been here. The jelly donuts are so darn soft like pillowy blankets of just cooked enough dough. Just the right amount of powdered sugar on them. I've had a fellow yelper turn me onto the Bavarian cream ones. Also another delight. They also have lemon filled powdered donuts that many like. Any choice donuts here you're winning with. There's also a hidden gem right in plain sight as you're at the counter paying. For those who have been here they know what I'm about to reveal. The mini pizzas in the glass case with just a touch of warmth in them to keep from room temp. These are really good. They're not on the level of the Bismark donuts but still good. They're also better eating them there or in the car. They aren't the same once they reach room temp. Still better with that little warmth. The Brooklyn rye bread has been a winner for years upon years. It's great making toast with it or just spreading some butter on it room temp and eating it like that. Have been having it since I was a kid. Love that bread. They have large and small breads. Choose what you like. They have a legitimate 100 year old table that came from their original location that they ended up closing down. A great piece of history right there. This place does have a story to tell. I'm sure you get the idea here. Don't take my word for it. Read the additional raving reviews that support mine and mine supports theirs. Definitely a MUST try place then again a do over place to try. You'll be addicted like I have been and the loads of others as well. I've never had a disappointed person who I turned them onto these donuts. Everyone I ever brought these to loved em and raved about them. This place is a GEM. Has been for years past and will continue to be for years going forward. Almost forgot to mention the staff and the cleanliness. The women working have always been super sweet and super nice every time I come which has been dozens upon dozens of times. The store is always in a very clean condition also. Fresh and yummy! I only wish they made gluten free items. I used to come here prior to my learning of having a gluten sensitive. Their donuts are so soft and delectable that it makes my mouth water just thinking of them. Their donuts are simple and not trendy. Classic and freshly made every morning. This place was worth every star and it's place on the top 100 list. This probably the 14th or 15th place on the list I have tried and one of the only ones I think truly belongs. As a Waterbury resident I waited wayyyyy too long to visit this bakery! Honestly, I heard good things here and there about it but I never knew it was THIS good! It's now my go-to bakery for sweets. The glazed donut is a classic anywhere but here it is the BEST. All the donuts are warm, soft and packed with the perfect flavors. I pick up cupcakes all the time here but the red velvet is my favorite treat. My family loves their brownies as they are fudge like and soft. We even tried their breakfast sandwiches which we delicious as well. They make fresh bread and I really enjoyed their seedless rye bread! This place has low prices for high quality food. No-frills bakery inside of a strip mall that is known for its donuts and rye bread. They only have a few basic varieties of donuts, but I tried a glazed donut and it was PERFECT. I've been here too many times to count and can definitely advise you to try their jelly donuts and cinnamon and sugar donuts. The jelly donuts will ruin you because none other will compare. I've been going to this bakery since I was born, along with my family for 50+ years. We used to go to the original location in the Brooklyn section before it burned/closed and now only the 2nd location is open on Reidville and has been for many years. Yes of course the donuts, and now they've branched off to pastries, cupcakes, etc over the years.....and yes they are great but I have to say how disappointed I am, as well as my family, extended family & friends to find out that they no longer make Pumpernickel bread. This was a staple of Brooklyn Bakery, along with its Rye, and it's what they are known for. Each year my mother would buy loaves and mail to family all over the US that once lived here and since moved away. Nobody made pumpernickel bread like a Brooklyn and that's why we would mail bread to family. There are enough cupcake/cake places around and I wish traditional bakeries would stick to just that. Tradition and the things we grew up with and know. And Vito g into that bread brings back memories. So I hope you reconsider bringing that bread back. Also, every time I go in, there is an abundance of Italian bread or rolls that just sit there. Go back to what people love and like. And I know I'm not the only one who feels this way. Bring back Rye, Pumpernickel, donuts and eclairs. Lifetime favorites and traditions. Now it's pizzas, breakfast sandwiches....all things that are not a traditional bakery let alone a bakery that makes traditional European style bread. read more

Brooklyn Baking is no doubt a contender in the best donuts of Connecticut debate alongside Gerry's and Neil's. I was not expecting to be so amazed by their donuts and other items, but their offerings are a must try for anyone with a stake in this very heated debate. To be fair, though, they offer pretty limited options (glazed, jelly, etc.) and don't really dabble with the more creative/artsy options (ie maple donuts, hot chocolate donuts, Oreo, etc.). Their glazed and jelly donuts are some of the best I've had. They are light, full of flavor, and fluffy at the same time. More than anything, though, the Bismarck is the top item to try here. I'm not a fan of jelly in my pastries, but wow this really made me question my own preferences. It was THAT good. They've got plenty of parking and several delicious items to choose from. Honestly, I have to write this review and it is strictly for the donuts. I consider myself somewhat of a donut connoisseur and will travel near and far for a good one. I've tried donuts in a variety of different states and I'm also a relative purist usually opting for a traditional glazed. The donuts at Brooklyn Baking are by far the best donuts I've ever had in my entire life. Not sure if it's a good thing or bad thing that it's not close to me but yes! They know what they're doing on these. I've even explored other types like cinnamon sugar, apple stuffed and they are all amazing! I've visited this location a handful of times and while they offer other items that sound great like fresh breads (if you get there early enough), breakfast sandwiches, pizza etc., I've always been laser focused on the donuts. This was my second time here. The first time my daughter who lives near there brought a dozen to RI and they were pillows of heaven. The glazed donuts has thick glaze everywhere, the cinnamon sugar were excellent, the apple filled were amazing. Left such an impression that I had to go back. 2 hour drive, what a letdown. Got home, the donuts looked like a flat tire, shriveled up, no glaze, cinnamon sugar had hardly any. I thought a 2 hour ride was a snack price to pay to spend a few minutes in donut heaven. I never got that experience. I don't know what happened. Want the same product. It was its weak broke down Cousin. I know for a fact I won't take that long drive again and I probably won't ask my daughter to go there next time she come my way. Once I'm jilted by a love, I have a hard time trusting again. Drove here for the first time on a Saturday from about 40 mins away to get some fresh bread products and a yummy donut and I arrived at 11:30am and they were out of every type of bread, any type of rolls and only had apple filled donuts or jelly filled donuts, sounds like poor planning for a busy weekend? Their hours say they close at 4 so I didn't think this would be an issue. Don't think breakfast sandwiches were possible since they were out of bread and rolls and if they had them I wouldn't have wanted a premade sandwich.
