I find my experiences at the Outpatient Lab at the hospital nearly the same each and every time: I always aim to avoid peak times, e.g., first thing Monday morning, lunch hours. I just hate waiting. And since the remodeling - which turned a big not very private space into a bunch of private rooms - I find the blood draws go quickly. Each time, the interaction with the employee who confirms demographics and insurance is impersonal at best and at worst sour and constipated. When I have had many more cordial interactions with people who work at the local Secretary of State offices, it says something about how certain Bronson employees are trained. I suppose those whose job is to squeeze money from patients for a for profit hospital have it bad. It shows. In contract, the interaction with the phlebotomist is always top notch. My youngest brother and my parents, all in the medical field, could draw blood with their eyes closed. I heard stories about phlebotomists who were insensitive dolts who poked needles into arms for the purpose of getting the biggest, purplish bruises, but I have yet to run into one at Bronson. The phlebotomists ask about my comfort and are sensitive to not cause pain, they are careful about maintaining a sterile environment, and they do their job capably.

My son who is 8 years old sees Dr. Dodich and really enjoys her. Kids usually don't like going to see a doctor, but Dr. Dodich always makes our time with her so wonderful. I can tell Dr. Dodich is passionate about what she does and the kids she sees. She always takes the time to listen and answer both mine and my son's questions and explains things very well for my son to understand. Okay, I went back today, and it has, in the last week and a half, become a significantly more…read moreprofessional operation. Instead of just one guy running the front, they had three people. They made sure that folks had filled out their cards and directed people to enter and where to sit: it was dramatically less chaotic than last week. They are also now advising that people return to their cars to fill out the online form and cards rather than congregate around the front door. All employees were wearing PPE properly (including gloves!), and they had a much better process: the testing kits were already at each station, and people swab themselves then put the swabs in the vials themselves and place the vials plus their cards in sealed bags. They looked like they were disinfecting stations between use. Results were emailed within 30 minutes as promised. They aren't regularly offering PCR tests due to supply issues, so this review is just for their Rapid test.

They then tried to draw my blood through my hand. They put the needle in, then after a few minutes said "this vein doesn't seem to have any blood in it." They then said they couldn't draw my blood due to lack of veins and lack of blood and to come back another day. There were 2 other individuals that were in the waiting room with me that had the same scenario. One of the two was coming back from the day prior, when they had been poked all over their arm area and now had bruising all over their arms. Don't go here. I don't believe they have qualified staff.

On my most recent visit, I tried my first arm, gave up, then tried my second arm, stuck me, didn't get any blood, and then had to draw the blood from my hand, which was painful. The practitioner was very patient and kind with me, and kept me busy chatting to try to distract me from the discomfort. Despite the slight delay in finding a vein from which to draw, the overall process here was very swift. From check-in to walking out the door was less than 10 minutes, and I also received my results very promptly.
