I'm usually not one to leave reviews, but after this experience, I felt like I had to say…read moresomething. I ordered the two-meat plate with pork ribs and brisket, and unfortunately, it was very disappointing from the start. I became concerned when I saw the meat being reheated on a flat-top skillet. The ribs were undercooked and had little to no flavor. The brisket came in small slices that were extremely oily and seemed like they were from the day before. The bark was lacking, and most of what I received was almost entirely fat. I'm not particularly picky when it comes to barbecue, but this was easily one of the worst experiences I've had!

Had high hopes when I walked initially walked in…read more I won't say it's bad bbq. But it's certainly not up to good Texas BBQ. The brisket was tender. The turkey was pretty good. The shrimp were decent. Cole slaw was coleslaw. The best thing on my plate was the green beans. Atmosphere is a typical BBQ family dining and relaxed. I will say service was great. They were friendly. Even offered a free desert because they initially forgot my shrimp. I will say for the money, I expected more food though. It was adequate but far from impressive.

We had excellent pulled pork and brisket tonight, along with a great fried pickle appetizer. Sides, especially the slaw, were also very good. Bottom line, if you're looking for fancy you're going to be disappointed, but if you're looking for great barbecue, you're going to love Sticks BBQ in Mandeville.

Thus far I have tried the brisket sandwich, pulled pork sandwich, armadillo egg and potato salad. My first two visits the pulled pork and brisket were hot, tender and moist. The potato salad is good but not great in my opinion. I like that you get pickles and pickled onions with your orders. The BBQ sauce is pretty good. The first time I visited they had an asian inspired BBQ sauce which was really good. Their prices are on par or maybe even a little bit more reasonable than other BBQ spots. Plus, it's always easier to pay the price for BBQ when it's actually good and you feel like you got what you paid for.

They also have misting fans out there to manage the discomfort. You can smell the place from a block away. It's neat to be at a place surrounded by historic homes and old oak trees. Now onto the food. I got the 3 Meat Plate with Brisket, Ribs, and Pulled Pork. I've been smoking and eating Texas style meats for 25+ years, so I'm a bit of an admitted BBQ snob. The brisket was cooked perfectly. Not overwhelmingly Smokey, very tender, and still juicy. The ribs were a bit of a disappointment since they were overcooked and had a leathery texture. The flavor was incredible, just the texture was off. I wasn't upset though...it happens. The Pulled Pork was still very moist and easy to eat. The sides were very good also. The Beef Fat Tater Tots had a great texture and a Smokey flavor that I suspect came from a paprika based spice blend on them. The potato salad had great texture, but was very onion forward, so be aware if that is not your thing. My wife got the brisket plate, but got the lean cut from the flat of the brisket. It was still tender and moist. Her Roasted Garlic Mac-n-Cheese and Brussel Sprout sides gave me envy...they were both absolutely delicious! This place also has unique BBQ sauces. They have a house sauce which is a sweet sauce much like you might buy of any grocery store shelf, but better. They also had a Carolina style and a Jerk style BBQ sauce, which ended up being my favorite and was an unexpected surprise. It was a perfect companion for the pulled pork in particular. I gave the entire experience a 4 out of 5. Very solid lunch option. If you're in N.O. and aren't looking for seafood...give them a try.
