This will be the second time that I have gone to the salon for both a cut and color. I see Elizabeth Groom and she is absolutely fantastic. She allots the proper amount of time for each client necessary to achieve their ideal look. Despite a very short consult time, she does deliver on what she promises. She is very attentive and has an innate ability to remember intimate details about every client. This is a very unique trait. Today I decided to go blonder than ever and I'm very pleased with my final look. Liz took the time to give me an excellent blow dry at the end of my cut and color. You truly walk out ready to attend an event. I have received many compliments on my hair since Liz has started doing it. Previous hairstylists have never made me walk away even the slightest bit content. A cut and color is expensive but you get a good amount of time with the stylist and walk away happy. I can't tell you how many times I've walked away wanting to cry after a hair cut or color. You can trust Liz with your hair and even let her run wild with an idea.... She does not disappoint. I wish the front desk staff were more pleasant however. You do not always get a welcome or pleasant goodbye unfortunately. Lastly, the salon offers a number of excellent hair products and Liz is very knowledgeable about which products would suit your hair and the styles that you adorn on a daily basis. My name is Jazmin, and I visited Brocatos Collective for a grey blending color correction. I was initially very impressed--they were able to fit me in last minute, and the reception staff was excellent. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and made the process of getting a same-day appointment easy. I was scheduled with Uzma Haque, who I was told is a senior specialist. Based on that title, I felt confident she would know exactly what she was doing. I explained clearly that I wanted my greys blended with cool-toned grey highlights. I emphasized multiple times that I did not want blonde or yellow tones and was hoping for a more silver/white result. Uzma reassured me that this was her specialty and that she was very creative, which made me feel comfortable moving forward. During the consultation, she mentioned a $75 charge for a haircut, which I initially declined due to the high price. As the service went on, I checked in several times to confirm the highlights would not turn out yellow. I was repeatedly reassured they would be close to what I wanted. Unfortunately, the results were very disappointing. After the first toning, my hair was noticeably yellow. A second toning improved it slightly, but it still was not the cool grey tone I requested. I also noticed a harsh, visible line where the highlights began along my part, which looked unnatural and poorly blended. When I brought this up, along with my concern about the yellow tones, I felt my feedback was dismissed. I was told, "everyone else thinks it's white," which was frustrating as my opinion as the paying client should have been the priority. After spending about five hours in the salon, I decided to go ahead with the haircut. However, I was then told there wasn't enough time because my stylist needed to leave soon. After asking if someone else could do it, she ultimately stayed to complete it. In the end, what started as a very positive experience turned into a disappointing one. I left paying $368 for a result that looked worse than when I arrived. My hair appeared unevenly colored, with a stark line and noticeable yellow tones, and it felt damaged and brittle. I now have to seek additional services elsewhere to correct it. Based on my experience, I would not return or recommend this salon, especially given the high cost compared to the outcome. read more

I really liked the stylist I saw at Brocato's (Nicole), she was personable and engaging, but unfortunately the color I was getting stuff not hold up, and those pesky white hairs would show again within one-two weeks which is unacceptable, particularly at the price that I was paying. Unfortunately, the customer service I received when trying to let the salon know and investigate options was sub par. They asked me to let them know if it happened again, but when I did the receptionist offered no advice or solution and my phone call was never returned by the stylist. Unfortunate, as it was super convenient for me and as I said, I really liked the stylist. I've been going to a salon in Ellicott City for about a year now and I'm really pleased with the stylist and the service there so, all is well that ends well! read more

I moved to Baltimore this past January; what I remember most was 1) the godawful blizzard (y'know, the kind that hits every decade or so) and 2) my godawful haircut from one of those generic strip mall places that my boo assured me was "really good." Well, needless to say, I have since learned that what's "really good" for a dude who gets a #2 every 4 weeks was not so great for me, and thus I spent the next half a year afraid of all shears and scissors in Charm City. But I knew my locks needed some love (and color). Enter Brocato's and Lauren. Though I did indeed spend quite a few hours in the chair(s), the subtle layers, side bangs, and delicious balayage were all more than worth it. My Amex cried a little at the end of the services (word to the wise: CASH TIPS ONLY! -- so bring some dough or use their ATM), but I will say: this is much better than regretting the world's worst haircut. Because, yes, hair grows back, but isn't it so much better having amazing, beautiful, glorious tresses while it grows? I think yes. Lauren was so patient with me, as I asked her not to take off too much length (recounting my horrible January experience), and as she explained that she would need to take a little bit off to lighten the style and for best balayage showcasing. After artfully brushing on the lightener (and spending some time under the lamps), she gave me a lovely shampoo and a blow out/beauty lesson. She showed me the best way to style my new colored do, and we even made an appointment for about two months' time to brighten up my tresses (since she wanted to maintain the integrity of my hair -- definitely asking a lot from black hair!)... all of it was super duper easy. Anyway, I am happy to report that I am no longer afraid of the hair salon... thank you, Lauren, for a wonderful haircut and beautiful color. I've been Yelping for a few years and never reviewed a hair salon because I am so afraid of someone cutting off all my hair that I have been cutting my own... I read Vanessa's review of Faye at Brocattos and thought, "This could have been written by me." She was so happy; I prayed I would still feel the same way post-haircut. I went to Faye for a consultation and came back the next week for my haircut. I couldn't do it the same day because I wanted to make sure she REALLY, really, understood what I was looking for. FAYE IS A HAIR GENIUS. I guess the cut I asked for is pretty standard for a girl w/ a lot of long, straight, fine, hair that was all one extremely long length. I requested side-swept bangs with lots of layers but to pleaseeeeee keep the length. She delivered, making sure not to cut it too short. I have cried after almost every haircut I have ever received. I would go home and play with it in the mirror and be exasperated and resort to a ponytail. One time I cried AT the salon when my 'side-swept' bangs were literally above my eyebrow. Maybe because I was going to Hair Cuttery, but thats besides the point. I LOVE MY HAIRCUT. I felt like a model the whole day and was so sad to wash my hair the next day (it was too greasy/flat even for dry shampoo to save, maybe because of the product, not sure). I love my haircut so much I never even felt a second of doubt or sadness after my haircut. In fact - I still have long hair despite the very large pile of hair that I left on the floor at Brocattos. My hair dries in about 1/3 of its regular time, it holds volume a little bit better, and I feel like I actually have a style. Faye knows what's up! I'm so happy I discovered her and will now be getting regular haircuts as I transition to a more manageable length of hair. And as far as price, I believe that you get what you pay for. This is an aesthetically nice/clean salon. Got my hair done by Faye. I requested balayage. Although the method was okay, the color did not turn out the way I wanted so I returned a couple days later. They "fixed" the problem by toning it down, and as soon as the toner washed out in two weeks, it was orange again, the color I specifically said I didn't want. Def won't be going here again since they don't know how to deal with my hair quality and it's a pretty expensive place to spend so much money to not get what you paid for. I moved to Baltimore over a year ago, and have been putting off a haircut since I got here. I've had the same stylist for years, so finding a new one was giving me some major anxiety. I had been doing a bunch of research on salons in the city, but wasn't ready to commit. This morning, I had just about had it with my unruly locks. I saw that Brocato's was open on Monday (hard to find in the salon world), and called, not expecting any openings. I made my call at 1, and was in the chair by 330. I met with Faye, and I was so nervous I broke out in hives all over my chest and neck. What a mess. Faye was totally cool about it. She brushed it off, and assured me she would take care of me. We talked about what we should do, looked over some swatches, and got to work. She instantly made me feel comfortable. She also only worked on me. I really hate it when stylists double and triple book clients. You might be that good, but Im needy and selfish, and like the attention to be on me when I'm paying for it. Speaking of paying for it, I did have a bit of sticker shock when I paid, but it's true you get what you pay for. My color is PERFECT. Not at all what I wanted or expected when walked in, but so happy I went for the highlights Faye suggested. They're amazing. Wonderfully blended, not stripy, and completely natural looking, which isn't always easy on brunettes. The cut is fab, too. My hair looks amazing, even thrown up in a pony. I was in the salon a little longer than I had planned, but I did have a lot done and, well, you cant rush perfection! Some other points: I have long, fine, thin hair. I received a layered, angled cut with side swept bangs, highlights, and color. I was offered water and tea/coffee, several times. No going thirsty here! I was not pressured to buy products, AT ALL. You cannot put a tip on your CC, so bring cash. If you forget there, is an ATM in the salon, though it does have a surcharge. There are tons of magazines for reading, but all of the stylists seemed to be gifted at engaging their clients in really natural conversation; nobody seemed forced at all. Parking for free in the Safeway lot! Thanks so much, Faye. I really am very happy. I'll be back! UPDATE: 3 days after my cut, I decided I shouldve been a bit more aggressive with my bangs. I called Brocato's at 430pm and by 5pm I was in Faye's chair. She was very understanding, not offended, listened to my new ideas for my bangs, and got to cutting. She did this without charge! I am visiting family from out of town and desperately needed some low lights (to add some dimension to my over processed, flat blonde color!) and a trim. With the help of Yelp and a referral from my sister I happened upon Brocato's. The staff is warm and friendly and the space is light, airy, and inviting. They have a stack of guilty pleasure trash mags waiting for you, and coffee to warm you up. Liz was my stylist and she turned my flat hair into a much more dimensional, natural, rich color using 3 different colored dyes to low light. I love it :-) Highly recommend this place..I just wish I lived closer! Price for a haircut + full highlights came to $180 before tip...a little more than I pay down south but seems like a competitive rate up here in the dc/Baltimore area. I moved to Baltimore last August, but until now I have continued seeing my hairstylist in DC. I equate letting someone style my hair to doing a trust fall, but into just one person's arms instead of two. The other day I had that moment I have - about three times a year - that I hadn't cut my hair in 4 months. Not even a trim. Gross. And because I was so horrified, I decided that I was going to go ASAP, in Baltimore. After reading some yelp reviews, I tried out Brocato's. Faye did my hair and a sweeter hairdresser there never was. We had great conversation, and when I mentioned that I want to figure out how to put waves in my hair she actually spend a ton of extra time curling my hair to show me what it would look like. She used a number of different products, explaining what each one was for, but in no way tried to push them on me. You just get a "prescription" where she writes down everything she used and what each does, and if you decide you want them you can just come back! The only thing I would say is that once I washed out all of the product the style that I had wanted in the front, sort of those big side swept bangs but longer, was not exactly what I wanted, although perhaps I did not explain this well enough to her. I went to Brocatos on a recommendation of a good girl friend who raves about Brocatos. I had been going to another salon for about a year and strangely at my last appointment I received an awful, borderline mullet, haircut. I tried to stick out for a few months, but finally got fed up and called up Brocatos. I called in the morning and was able to get an appointment for the same evening. Jenna was my stylist and I am so happy with the results. I explained to Jenna my issues with the cut I had and she made me feel so comfortable and confidently said "we will fix this". The color turned out just what I wanted, a nice warm light brown to brighten up for summer. I was open to a shorter hair style and Jenna took about 6 inches off of my long hair for the cut and she cut the super cute bob, well, super cute! She showed me a few ways to style it (since I haven't had short hair in YEARS) and recommended a few of their Bumble & Bumble products but wasn't pushy about selling them to me. I am really, really happy with the cut, color, and the service I received!! Jenna and the other staff at the salon were really friendly & welcoming. Their prices are higher than other places in Baltimore, but when it comes to a hair salon you really get what you pay for (lesson learned the hard way re: awful mullet haircut I was sporting prior to coming to Brocatos). Another plus, FREE PARKING (Safeway parking lot)!! The only con is they do not take tips on credit cards -- cash only. They have am ATM in the salon ($2.50 fee) so it's wasn't a huge issue, but just an FYI. read more

I take my hair very seriously. Brocato's has been my salon since I moved to Canton 2 years ago, and they have never let me down. Their stylists have seen me everywhere from platinum blonde to dark brown, and several variations in between. By chance of the schedule, I've used 4 different stylists there, and always been impressed. Britney led me through my blonde stage, giving me gorgeous levels of "halo" highlights in a diamond-flecked platinum. She applied them with an artists hand, resulting in a delicate and natural glow. I've been blonde several different times in my life, and as far as depth of color and shimmer are concerned, this is the best I've had. For my transition from blonde to dark brown, I actually applied my own double at-home treatment (***Warning: I do NOT recommend this to any first-timers. I've been doing it for years, and it takes serious practice to avoid streaks). I started by taking it down to a medium brown, waited several days, and applied a second dark brown full wash. I stayed brunette for about a year and a half, and continued to go to Brocato's for cuts and styling. One thing that struck me was the delightful absence of pressure to adjust my color or try a new look, even when I was only getting a cut. They could have easily pushed for color and upped the bill. I find that most of my female friend's agree: one of the most stressful parts of a salon visit is a pushy stylist. At Brocato's, they provide friendly and professional advice, but don't pull the typical 'Let's do a MAKEOVER!!!' approach. My most impressive experience at Brocato's occurred when I decided I wanted to transition from dark brown to my natural color, a light honey brown. If you know anything about color, you know that going from dark to light is one of the trickiest changes to make. You can end up brassy (orange), ashy (gray), even green in some cases. I decided it would be wise to pull in a senior stylist and pay the higher rate. Patty styled in LA for over 15 years, and I took a deep breath as I passed my coat, and the welfare of my hair, into her skillful hands. First she applied feather thin highlights of pure bleach across my crown and the top layers of my hair to bring the color "up", washed/conditioned, then applied a caramel color over the highlights to bring the color back down. The result was a subtle overall lightening, and gorgeous, shimmery highlights. My hair gradually lightened from washing & the sun, and faded perfectly into a sunkissed honey brown for the summer. I haven't dyed it in 4 months, and it still looks completely natural, blending in with my roots. If you're looking for a simple trim, there are less expensive salons you can find in the county that will do the job. But for shaping, styling, and serious color, Brocato's is the way to go. Note: The Disney/Rainforest Cafe/Cirque de Soleil ambiance has gone to the wayside (Brocato's: +1). They've moved closer to Boston St. into the old CakeLove location, and sport calmer, sleeker decor. read more

I've visited different salons in Baltimore, and Brocato's is the only salon that I regret going to. I waited 15 minutes before the stylist was ready to cut my hair. During the cut I realized why she was 15 minutes behind...it was because she was hesitant of her skills and she took a long time to cut my hair. All I wanted was a 2-3 inch cut of my layers. She ended up cutting off only an inch. When I mentioned shaping my hair, she eluded to not knowing how to use texturizers or a razor so I didn't push it. My hair looked exactly the same as when I went into the salon. What's worse is that she added an extra $10 for cutting long hair (maybe that's why she only cut an inch off), taking the total price up to $65. Maybe she's new to the salon, but it speaks to the quality of the stylists that Brocato hires. read more

After look at pictures I decided to give Liz a try. I showed her pictures and told her how I wanted my hair darker, yet still blonde and she did a great job! She was very friendly and I loved my new color and cut, would definitely go back to her and recommend to others. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars was the price was a little shocking. While you can usually get an appointment within a few days, this place is a little eccentric at times. The "animal" theme with the tree inside makes me feel like I'm at Disney and that the place should reserve for children's haircuts. The woman who cuts my hair (no names) is very friendly but I'm not sure that her style meshes with mine. I've "shopped around" a bit from hairdresser to hairdresser and have found that the majority of them are "edgy" and have unusual haircuts or colors. While this might be cool, it doesn't necessarily translate into a normal haircut that the vast majority of people are looking for. Don't get me wrong, I've never left crying (thank god), but at times I feel my haircut is a little more "modern" than I asked for. Plus a haircut can run you $75 and for that price I think I'm going to look for a place that is a little closer to my style. I've hear great things about a place in Fed Hill- I'll let you know when I get there. While it seems as if I don't like this place, I do. The service is good, it's not hard to get in, and my hairdresser always gives me tips on how to make my hair/ hair color/ etc... better. It is also within walking distance from my house and call me crazy but that matters to me. For those of you who have to drive, there is plenty of parking right in front. I like that- she is not afraid to share tips or secrets and that is something that can be hard to find. The salon has other services too, I just have not used them at this point. read more

I've been going here for a little over a year. Before that I went to another salon where I always was unhappy with my haircut and felt like I needed it cut the day I left. I called and saw Brittny one weeknight around 8 pm,. they're open till 9 so I don't have to spent my weekends getting haircuts, She did a great job with my hair and is really nice too. In fact, I have left on multiple occasions having to stop so that the other stylists could see what was done because someone wanted to copy an aspect of the haircut I received. The atmosphere is fun and funky, but as a doctor at a conservative hospital, I've never been concerned that my cut/style wasn't appropriate for work. I had a great experience in this place, a lot better than some cheap places with fake high ratings ( I had a two minute haircut without wash or dry in 1622 which still cost me 30 bucks), I was thinking to have a try in Brocato- but the experience and the result is amazing! I wanted to have a new look by having short hair, and Teena did a great job! I got a lot of compliments during the holidays- From the appointments management to Wash and blow-dry and the haircut itself, all are done professionally and perfectly. I also asked to make my hair lighter after a week, and they quickly scheduled a time for me. A big high five and bravo, the price is bit higher than some other places but it's completely worthy, I will keep coming here for my hair from now on with Teena. read more

Jessica is an excellent stylist and I highly recommend asking for her if you are looking for color services. I was initially nervous about getting my hair done because (1) I've seen bad hair outcomes; (2) I'm Asian; (3) I work in the hospital setting. As a result, I was looking for a stylist with lots of experience and someone who could keep the coloring subtle/natural looking. My classmate frequented Brocato's and has been raving about the services for quite a while. So on a whim, I decided color my hair. I made an appointment with Jessica after seeing some great pictures of her previous clients, and did not regret it one bit. Based on Jessica's recommendation, I went with balayage with "low" placements that are similar to ombre coloring. The result was excellent, and the effects were subtle like I asked. I didn't have the dreaded orange outcome that frequently arises from dying Asian hair, and Jessica educated me on the coloring process and hair care. The total came out to $200 for the balayage. It is on the pricey side, but I think the cost is worth having fabulous hair. read more
