Having lived in Baltimore for some time now, I have tried several hair salons and stylists. This is partially due to my desire to try something new and freshen up my look every few months. Lisa, at Studio L, is one of my favorite hair stylists and her salon provides such a great experience. Nested right by the Dizz in Remington, this row home converted to a salon provides an atmosphere that is warm and inviting. She has refreshments to sip while you wait and various products, if interested, to try in your hair. I really appreciate that she's never tried to sell me products especially if I'm not particularly interested in them. She is great at looking at an image I bring in or description of what type of look I'm going for and matching it. I trust her with my hair color and my hair cut and refer my dearest friends to her. Most importantly, she is affordable! She never rushes your cut and color but does respect that your time is valuable. She makes her customers feel like they're the top priority in the salon. She has also used products on my hair that are particularly safe and not filled with harsh chemicals. read more

I am mulleted no more! Let's get my concerns out of the way: no one answered the phone when I called (a handful of times), even though they were wide open when I got there. I decided to chance a walk-in based on their website. They fit me in immediately, and I got a cut with Lisa using the Groupon deal. I opted not to get the conditioning treatment - based on my own hair and judgment, and when I asked about it, she gave me her honest advice (woohoo!) that it would likely weigh my hair down - so someone else will have to speak to that. Also, $15 is more than I'd like to spend on eyebrow waxing in an ideal world. That being said, I got exactly the haircut I wanted. I didn't even have to present a picture. Lisa listened to what I wanted done, asked about all the necessary details like where I part my hair and whether I wanted to maintain the layers that already existed. She cleaned up the cut after it was dried, and we double-checked how my bangs looked after being blow-dried. Super important. The products available for purchase and used in styling are Aveda, which is awesome in a non-carcinogenic kind of way and tends to smell fantastic. Beyond that, the place is clean and pretty without being pretentious and the two women there were friendly, easy to talk to folks. Face it: you're not going to go back to a salon if you can't talk to your stylist, even if the haircut is nice. I picked up a business card, and I intend to actually keep this one. read more

I have been searching for a place to get my haircut in Baltimore. And you know how girls are with there hair... very protective. Well, at least, I am. I'm used to getting haircuts with my trusty Asian lady in California. I didn't think I would find a place here for a reasonable price and someone who knew how to cut my hair. However, I got lucky! There was groupon for Studion L and I snatched it. I went in and the owner was so nice and knew exactly what I wanted. She made me feel very comfortable and assured me that she would not cut too much off, but just enough so that the dead-ends would be off and my color (ombre) would still show. I couldn't have asked for better. I came out very satisfied. The studio has a very home-y and had welcoming feel. I could see myself spending a lot of time there. I got the $19 Groupon for a cut and conditioning after deciding to leave my old salon because they're prices were getting too high for a haircut. I showed up for my appointment with Lisa. I decided to skip on the conditioning since I was going for a major change from long to short and figured I didn't need it. If anything shows how good a hairdresser is, it's cutting my extremely straight and fine hair short and she did a great job. I showed her a picture of what I was thinking, but told her I'm okay with her doing whatever she sees fit and she went to town. I really love it. Also, their regular prices are completely reasonable. I am thinking of switching here from Sprout because they are cheaper and more conveniently located (with free parking), and they use Aveda products which I love. You don't get all the bells and whistles that you get at Sprout but they're still quick and professional. A few weeks ago, I had an excellent experience at Studio L. I went in for lowlights and some grown-out color correction and come out looking like a beautiful mermaid. I went in for a haircut and highlights. Lisa listened to what I wanted and I asked her for her opinion, so I could get a feel for her expertise. We decided to keep the same basic color that I had, but I feel the color looks a little strawberry blonde instead of just blonde. The salon was actually pretty dirty. There was dust all over the lids to the hair products as well as hair on the floor and dirt on the wall molding. Since I was the first appointment in the morning, there should not of been any hair on the floor, so obviously it was left there from previous days. Not sure I will go back at this point. read more

I love Studio L Salon. I was looking for a great hair salon that didn't charge through- the-roof prices. Lucky for me there was a Groupon for Studio L because I hadn't heard of this salon. I was able to schedule an appt. quickly and got partial highlights and a great cut from Lisa. I had previously gotten my hair cut at a much higher price by a woman who claims to be a "curly hair expert" who wound up shattering the ends of my hair and causing massive splits from doing a razor cut on my curly, bleached hair. Lisa was shocked that someone had scissored my hair (so was I, really), and she fixed it right up for me, along with some beautiful color. I walked out of there so happy with the experience, I scheduled another appointment for full highlights this time. My second appointment was a little over a week ago and again, I was super impressed by not only how great the color looks, but how FAST she put all those foils in my hair! One of the things I hate about getting my hair done is the waiting...but I was in and out of there in under two hours with a beautiful blonde mane. I will continue to go to Lisa as long as she's there, which I hope is a very long time!! She is a very laid back, sweet salon owner and makes you feel comfortable immediately. Don't let her young age fool you, she definitely knows what she's doing! I highly recommend this salon!
