Lisa, at Studio L, is one of my favorite hair stylists and her salon provides such a great experience. Nested right by the Dizz in Remington, this row home converted to a salon provides an atmosphere that is warm and inviting. She has refreshments to sip while you wait and various products, if interested, to try in your hair. I really appreciate that she's never tried to sell me products especially if I'm not particularly interested in them. She is great at looking at an image I bring in or description of what type of look I'm going for and matching it. I trust her with my hair color and my hair cut and refer my dearest friends to her. Most importantly, she is affordable! She never rushes your cut and color but does respect that your time is valuable. She makes her customers feel like they're the top priority in the salon. She has also used products on my hair that are particularly safe and not filled with harsh chemicals.

Everything about her is phenomenal from how warm and cozy her room to her bedside manner. Because my birthday is in December there were nice Christmas decorations sprinkled throughout.

I chose this location because when searching the About Faces website this location had the availability to accommodate my hot stone deep tissue massage. I have not had a massage in over a year and my last upper body massage was at the mall kiosk stand while in Vegas. Upon arrival to the Kenilworth mall, I found the spa on the second level. I was greeted and immediately walked back to meet Maria (don't quote me on the name-massage therapist). I was placed in a quiet room to undress of course and to get ready for my massage. As soon as she started massaging my back~ she asked when was the last time you had a massage. I told her over a year ago. She did a great job but, I literally had knot on top of knots in my back. She told me I was carrying the world on my shoulders and I feel like I am every single day. This was my first time having the hot stone treatment with a massage and now I will be getting it every single time. The pressure was slightly intense at times but, I knew I needed it to iron out my knots. When anyone ask me what I need as a gift idea~ it will be a deep tissue hot stone massage for sure. I will definitely be returning hopefully sooner than later.

Second thing was that the only tv was playing NewsMax, a very conservative news station. The stylist with no mask was not the one cutting my hair, but if he was I definitely would've felt uncomfortable. As he cut the hair of the woman next to me, he rambled about how this channel and Fox News were the only "real news" anymore and began talking about how Joe Biden is flying in "planes full of illegals" as we speak. The woman who cut my hair did a great job and was very nice, the whole experience was just a bit off putting.

It's a small stand alone building in the middle of Towson. It's surrounded by huge sky rises and parking structures, and so when you drive up to it, it feels like a small preserved piece of the past in the middle of the modernized Towson. There is street parking and several close parking structures to choose from. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed. The original hardwood floor has a classic mid century feel. The lighting fixtures and salon setup are all modern and create an interesting dichotomy. As an Aveda salon, they have a wide selection of Aveda products. Due to their small storage space however, they tend to have only a few bottles of each product. So if you want a lot of a specific product, you may want to ask them to order it for you. In terms of services, they provide skin care and body care, hair treatments, hair coloring, and hair cuts. Their focal point is obviously hair care. In the upstairs area they offer acupuncture and massage (when they have a person on staff - I don't think they currently have someone as of July 2025; whereas they have had that it the past)

I was skeptical about Lluminaire due to mixed reviews about the secretary and the pricing. To add, I've never left a review before but I felt the need to share my experience. I called to see if any salon could take me on my off day from work for a reasonable price. I wanted a partial - full highlight with face framing balayage pieces. I have medium length hair that hasn't been properly colored or cut in months. The secretary, Lisa, was helpful and informative when booking my appointment for me. She fit me in to see Layla since she had a last minute cancellation. Long story short, Layla is extremely talented and cosmetology is clearly her passion. She gave me a full consolation and even asked me to pull my mask down a little bit so she could see my bone structure and skin tone. I've never had someone so thorough do my hair! She truly earned her 'Master Stylist' title. She was professional while also down to earth, she asked me what budget I would like to stick to. I told her around $150 for the full high-light if possible. In short, Layla completely transformed my hair. She worked quickly and was extremely thorough; She wanted it to be perfect for me. She even gave me a complimentary blow dry so she could see the results of the color. Although the price is higher than I've ever paid, I really got what I paid for. I'm from a smaller town so this was definitely a new experience for me. I feel like Layla was a perfect fit for me. She didn't make me feel like she was taking advantage of me or rushing me. I appreciate how humble she is and I already have a follow up appointment booked. I don't have any great pictures of the transformation, but Leila took some. It's a recession, and since my regular salon in Ellicott city has changed since Covid, I am always looking for a new Asian spot. I thought it would be $30ish but instead the bill was $60. Still not bad for a haircut but not at an Asian salon and not to mention this is a pretty dingy salon. My stylist first of all smelled like cigarette smoke and I asked him several times to wash his hands, and I came home smelling like cigarettes. I was also coughing inside the salon because I'm very very sensitive to cigarette smells. When I cough, the man brought me water, but there was hair in the water so I couldn't even drink it. Needless to say, I was really agitated after the haircut and extremely long blow dry where I felt like my scalp was burnt. If you are looking for an old-time, no no no frills vibe or very good customer service, this fits but honesty it's too expensive for what it is.
