    Broadway Bacon Cheeseburger

I haven't been to many Broadway Pizza locations outside of the original location on Broadway in Minneapolis (RIP) and the Robbinsdale location. Both of which I always enjoy the pizza and overall experience. I stopped in at the Champlin location (closest to my home) on a Monday evening to grab, of all things, a burger. That may seem wild to go to a pizza place to intentionally get a burger but I was told that Broadway Pizza makes a decent burger. The restaurant was pretty much dead outside of a few folks at the bar and what looked to be a cribbage league going on in the side room. I sat at the bar and was instantly greeted by a super friendly bartender. Service was great throughout. As far as the burger, it was bad. Really bad. I honestly wasn't really expecting anything too great but expected better than this. Super dry, crusty, stale bun. Overcooked meat. Sad little pieces of bacon. With that being said. This is a pizza place and they deserve another visit from me for a pie.

This was our first time at Broadway. We had 2 orders of the happy hour cheese bread which were very good for the price. Each order is 4 pieces for only $5. We also had the boneless Buffalo wings. They were good though they could have used a bit more sauce and at $14, we felt the portion size was kinda small. We also got a large pizza to share. Pizza was good, crust was thin and crispy. Again though, we thought maybe a little more toppings would have nice. There weren't many pepperonis or mushrooms. Our server was nice and they have plenty of seating in the bar to watch football. They have a big parking lot as well.

Lately, I've been craving a dimly light pizza parlor that had some good pizza. Ever since the original Red Savoys closed in St Paul you just don't find them in Minnesota anymore. Even a Pizza Hut would be nice. A place to sit down and have a decent pizza with a beer, that gave you that almost speakeasy feel, so far, Broadway is the closest I've come. So, how was the food? Pretty darn good. Typically we always get extra cheese on our pizzas because they never seem to have enough. Next time, I don't think we're going to. I was impressed and pleased at what came out of the oven. Plenty of toppings, plenty of cheese, fairly tasty. Sausage was a little disappointing, however the crust was not. Waiter was extremely fast and friendly. Very pleased. Overall the place was clean, fairly priced, and probably the closest thing to a pizza parlor you're going to find in the suburbs these days.

All meat entrees come with both salad and pasta, making it a decent deal. Now on with the food itself, the pasta is amazing, the marinara sauce is some of the best I've had, the salmon is incredible, the lobster is ok, and the steak is some of the best I've had. I've had steak everywhere, from Florida to Alaska, and I have never had a steak like this, it was strangely tender, melt in your mouth, the fat was also a more meaty texture, probably due to the dry aging, overall one of the better steaks I've ever had. The atmosphere is quite casual for the quality of food, my group wore just T shirts. The actual building is nice, but quite old, could use a new ac, but the patio space is magical, with service just as quick. Before I conclude my review, I should note that there was some sign of mild mold in 2 of our waters, likely due to the ice machine, this is a common issue, and as far as I know, had no negative health effects. Overall the food was decently priced and quite good, not mind blowing, but delicious none the less. Small locally owned restaurant with fantastic service. Give it a try!

Great low key ambiance. Believe it or not, I had the meat loaf off the menu. The menu literally said "yes meat loaf, it's that good". It was good, almost like eating veal with beef gravy. The gravy and the meat had a good flavor, worth a try. The table next to me a lady had the chicken Alfredo and she went on and on about how good it was. Yes tables are close to each other. I also tried the tiramisu, menu stated it was home made. It was not bad, just the whipped cream was a little heavy and it needed a little more espresso on the lady fingers. The waitress was amazing. She was polite, professional and had a 1920's style dress on, not sure how she waited tables and was the hostess in the dress and kept up. But she did and did an amazing job. The chef's did come out and check on folks and even did food running. The staff overall was exceptional. I will have to go back and try some of the pasta as well.

The drunken shrimp is just as good as we remember the saffron sauce is sooooo good! but there were 3 of us sharing the apps and it only came with 2 crostini's we asked for a 3rd so we could each have one but little did we know that one very small skinny piece of bread had a $1.00 charge to it. The steak bites with their homemade blue cheese sauce was to die for melt in your mouth!! I even asked if we could buy some of the blue cheese sauce, she said no but that she would bring us another dish of it but she never did. My girlfriend ordered a cranberry mule drink, she was charged an extra $1.00 for the cranberry. We also ordered the goat cheese with sauces that were very delicious with an ample amount of crackers. We got the chocolate Ganache cake to share for dessert. But............ the waitress never took our empty dirty plates but showed up with the dessert with the mess on table, I asked for extra clean plates but she never brought them. Everything we ordered was very delicious, but as the night progressed our service got worse, we asked for the bill but she never came back to get our payment and we had questions my girlfriend walked it up to the bartender with our payments. 2 of us were paying cash and one a credit card and we were charged an extra fee of $5.18 for her using a credit card. That is when we saw the $1.00 charge for 1 piece 3/8" bread and the $1.00 for cranberry mule. Talk about nickel and diming. We would love to go back but unsure if I can get past some of these things. Also, now looking at the bill even closer, none of us had a mimosa and we were charged $8.95 for one.How did we miss that? All added up we paid $16.00 more than we should have. CRAZY!! Sadly, Don't know if I'll be back.

They were friendly, organized, and never made us feel rushed. My usual order is the Black Fettuccine with Lobster, which I highly recommend, but this time I changed it up and ordered the Combo Lasagna and Chicken Parmesan. It was excellent. As always, the bread with olive oil, parmesan, and fresh cracked pepper was awesome. You have to discipline yourself to stop eating so much warm bread that you don't fill up before your meal comes. For appetizers, we shared three Bruschetta orders, the Bacon-Wrapped Dates, and the Calamari Fritti. Everything was very good and perfect for a larger group to share. The overall experience is what keeps us coming back. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable, they have a great patio during the summer months, the food is always consistent, and the service is typically very good. The bread held its own... wasn't too chewy or soggy. I didn't know if I wanted hot or sweet peppers so I asked for them on the side. My nose said "nope" to both so I left them off. However, shortly after serving my meal the waiter brought out a fresh meatball saying that the chef wanted me to have it because she thought the one with my spaghetti was "bad". That more than made up for my initial disappointment. My wife had the Baked Mosticolli Special and she was very happy with it. Each meal comes with a basket of homemade bread: a garlic bread twist, pepperoni bread, olive bread and traditional Italian bread. This is always a highlight. Tonight was no different. Normally I don't order dessert however tonight I ordered something called Papas Bread Pudding. This was heaven in a dish. The bread was crispy on the outside and soft and tender on the inside. Giuseppe's seems perpetually busy and the crowd starts very early. When we arrived last Saturday, there were only two tables left and one of those was a quirky half table. What makes this restaurant popular is the consistency of the food, the good service and the focus on popular old-school Italian food. All of the favorites are there and they are done well. My go-to is often the spaghetti and meatballs, which is so easy to prepare at home, but still worth going out for if the restaurant does it right. The entrees come with a soup or salad, both of which are good. On this particular visit, it was really cold outside and the Minestrone was hot, chunky, and full of fresh vegetables. They also serve (an increasingly rare) bread basket with a variety of different fresh baked breads, which are perfect for dipping into the olive oil. The chicken marsala and the frequent special of Chicken Parnassian are excellent too, as is their pasta. Pro Tip: They don't take reservations, so go as early as you can, even on a week night. They are not open on either Sunday or Monday, so factor that into your visit. They open at 4 pm and close at 8 pm, so the total open hours for the week are 20 hours!
