Tasty cup of coffee, speedy service every time I've been in, and a nice location adjacent Pratt Park. Never had any trouble finding parking around here, or in the few times I've been since the name change, finding a place to sit if I wanted. I can't quite put my finger on it, but something's better since ownership changed hands. They layout's a little more functional, the coffee a little tastier, and the service a little more attentive. Or maybe it's all in my head. And not that you should care but they use "Square" payment system and an iPad for checkout, which is actually pretty speedy and fun - although I try not to let my love of all things Apple color my review. read more

They've got delicious, inexpensive coffee and espresso beverages. It smells like a fresh pot of roasted coffee every time I walk in. It's also spacious with numerous outlets for guests looking to get stuff done on their laptops. In light of all the great reviews, I expected heaven. Like so many overly fancy places in Seattle, all I found were gentrifying hipsters and uneven service in which being chatty is mistaken for more substantive service or care. (Of course, one may write a sociological study on the Seattle freeze...) Both the coffee and service were overrated and frankly overpriced, given that they were only marginally better than food available in nearby delis on Yesler. Glad there are other alternatives for food and coffee nearby in the neighborhood- such as those delis. P.S. Barry has tried policing my reviews about his place and others in the neighborhood. He's gone so far as trying to persuade me to take down my reviews for another business- a black-owned business in a historically African American, African, and Asian community. And yet he's the one who called my review of his place "non-community like"? Apparently, he's the arbiter of community in the Central District. read more

I'm about to move to this neighborhood and wanted to check out my coffee shop options. Happily, Broadcast Coffee is a winner! Employees seem very friendly towards folks who just want to buy a cup of coffee and hang out for a few hours. On that note, they're friendly, non-pretentious hipsters. You know, the good kind of hipsters, the ones you want to be friends with because they'll bring good stuff to your potluck and crack cool jokes. The internet is fast and mostly reliable. It was down when I first started trying to use it, but an employee was quick to reset it and it was back and working for the rest of the time I was there. Great loose-leaf selection and the staff behind the counter was knowledgeable about which one wouldn't be too flowery. They also gave me a few refills of hot water on the house. I knocked off a star because damn was it cold in there. Either they don't have heat, or they keep it turned low on purpose, but I never got warm enough to take off my coat and scarf. read more

At least it isn't Starbucks. I generally get a lukewarm (slacker college kid 101) reception and ho hum unremarkable cuppa. It's less hip than Stumptown, less pretentious than Victrola, less interesting than Vita. But it's like they're trying too hard to be less so, so anyway it's awkward. Basically, they're like the fifth wheel of hipster coffee shops. Maybe I'm wrong. Whatever. Now that I think about it, I had a shot in the dark that is worth remarking; it was pretty gruelling. It had a a really fruity top note that always reminds me of a diaper bin. Like Yuban and coffeemate in a church basement somewhere. Chalk that up to the variety and roast of the bean. Can't blame the barista on that one. I will say that the location, overseeing the park in the big picture windows is pleasant, even on a stormy morning. I really like this neighborhood cafe - it's walking distance from my place and they sell "I [heart] the CD" stickers. How could one pass that up? A number of herbal teas, pour over coffe options, and Molly's pre-made food. Good selection of baked goods. Unpretentious with plenty of seating makes this a neighborhood favorite. In addition to great coffee, Broadcast also boasts an impressive pastry display. My personal favorite is the loose leaf tea. Overall: Great cappuccinos, perfect place for studying/reading a book, though the service is nothing special if you're visiting for the first time. I had passed by Broadcast Coffee a number of times since arriving in Seattle, and finally decided to stop in when I found myself passing it yet again just when I was really wanting some coffee. I was extremely impressed by a number of things during my short visit: - Though the person at the counter was busy making a drink for someone else, she automatically acknowledged me when I walked up to the counter. - When another customer attempted to walk in front of me, the employee very politely informed that customer that I was next to be helped. - They have Mighty-O's donuts and vegan GF treats from Flying Apron! - They offer hemp milk as a milk alternative and also have vegan pumpkin spice lattes! - They have agave nectar and other sweetener options available. - My drink was AMAZING, some of the best coffee I've had since being in Seattle. - There is a very good amount of seating including a large community table in the middle that has the biggest powerstrip I have ever seen for people who need to plug in. - There are power outlets located near almost every seat. - A microwave is available to heat up grab and go items. - Bike parking is available directly in front of the shop. Basically I couldn't find any cons with this place and really loved the superior customer service, delicious tasting coffee, and the great work atmosphere. I am a vervent coffee-shop visitor. My 2nd time here. In both cases with different personeel, the drink was brought to my table. The 2nd visit separately also my hot tosti and a 3rd visit to my table for the napkins. Service rarely seen at upscale coffee shops! The cappuccino -as requested- was topped of with layer of beauty cream. And the tosti/panini was crunchy as well, probably prepared by these smart ovens. A place to go! read more

Pretentious but I guess that is what I should have expected coming in here honestly. I am not a huge "Seattle" person but I was in the area for a photo shoot and this was close. Full of hipsters, not shocking. Small menu, attitude and the coffee was not great. It had a very nutty taste to it which I am not a fan of. I ordered a lemon bread too and got no lemon taste from it at all. I don't think either person working even said one word to me. I wouldn't be back at all. I would drive further away and get less tude' and better coffee. Sucks because I like supporting small business' but not when you act like that. Your customers are your livelihood. read more

The drinks and snacks here are pretty good, and there's usually plenty of seating which is kind of a rarity for Seattle coffee shops. There are ample power outlets if you stay for a bit with a laptop, but the wifi is pretty crappy if you need a reliable speed/connection - I usually bring my own wifi device if I plan on sitting down there because their wifi is generally unreliable. The staff is mostly pleasant but I've had a few occasions where staff was rude and condescending. For example, on one occasion two staff snarked to each other about what I guess was an "annoying" drink that I had ordered, and on another occasion a staff member (who I have no rapport with) made comments about my scatter-brained-ness when I fumbled with a card trying to pay, which was awkward. If I had another coffee shop choice close by I'd probably go there instead just to avoid the 'ugh, customers are such idiots' feel that sometimes comes out at Broadcast. read more

I love this place. I've never had a bad espresso drink here and always been ready for me to consume in a timely manner. I try to come in whenever I'm in the CD and prefer this location over their other location. The service has always been friendly and the baked goods tasty. You can tell the baristas take pride in their work here by the way they present you their latte art and the way your beverage taste and no grounds found in the bottom of your cup. I actually like the Apple register and the guy who didnt like the tip part.. well you can always tip in cash and change, I don't see the big deal. So if you're ever in the CD swing by this place for your coffee addiction. read more

I was visiting from Portland, staying an in Airbnb down the street that recommended this cafe, and damn am I glad we stopped in! I work at a coffee shop in portland, and I have espresso every day I work, but this was the best espresso shot I've ever had, it was rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced. By the by, I'm in here a couple times a week and I've never had a bad experience. The coffee is always good. I love the way they serve tea, in these little one-serving pots shaped like upside-down incandescent light bulbs. You get the benefit of loose leaf tea steeped to your preference, plus it just looks nice. And their ham and cheese croissant is ridiculously good. I really like that they change their wifi password every day. Prevents the place from being packed with non-customers. The only other coffee shop in spitting distance is Starbucks, which is always packed to the brim and it's nigh impossible to find a seat. Their coffee drink menu is pretty extensive, and they offer many dairy alternatives; I ordered an oat milk latte. Nice neighborhood Cafe next to a park.. Used to be Soho coffee... great location on a corner across from Pratt Park. Nice interior, typical Seattle indie coffee shop. On a weekday early eve the place was nearly empty (closes at 6 or 7?). I had a "London Fog", basically a tea latte. Good stuff. And the barista even pointed out their pastries had just been marked down (day old) so I bought a few for breakfast the next day. One of my favorite coffee shops in the area. Lots of choices for milk, super kind baristas, and space to move about. Molly's sandwiches (like the Hangry Vegan, which I can't help but order every time), and a super delicious Caramello. It's a simple place...nothing too frou frou about it. I walk quite a long while to get my coffee from here...I even hike up and down some hills, with my toddler strapped to me, and my older toddler in a stroller. I like to think of it as a workout, but really, I just love the coffee. read more

I want to like it here but never really dig the coffee. It's usually quite bitter, and the pastries are not good. (However, it is hard to find good pastries in the area.) The location is great and convenient, their WiFi is handy (if, as sometimes it goes, it isn't working, ask the barista to reset it); windows and occasional outdoor seating are lovely. Salads are good if you catch em before they sell out! A good neighborhood spot, I go here because it's convenient and cozy, but am not really a fan of their coffee nor breakfast options. Great little coffee shop to kick off our short tour of Seattle. We spotted this cafe about a half mile from our rental and they did not disappoint upon visiting. My little one who loves hot chocolate but is also lactose intolerant was met with a choice of alternative "milk" and she approved, two wittle thumbs up on the hot chocolate. The Carrot and blueberry muffins we're warm and delicious. The lattes we choose were perfection. Creamy smooth and of course no sugar or extras needed. I'm no coffee snob, but I know good coffee. I can't keep up with how many name changes and owners they've had. Neighborhood coffee shop that is here to stay (I hope). Just as I was getting used to Soho Cafe there's a name/ownership change. The remodel is okay but the center area makes it seem like there are less seats overall. The americano was good and they use Stumptown coffee. The servers are nice and friendly. I'm glad that the CD has a cute coffee shop and whoever it might be in the future I hope it stays a neighborhood coffee shop. read more

Drinks here are great, but it's the morning male barista with blonde hair and glasses today (among other days) that makes the experience terrible. He's always moody and throwing up his arms in frustration and makes you wonder if he even wants to be a barista. He's a paid professional barista and is a face of customer service for Broadcast Coffee, he should act like one. read more

Coffee was not tasty at all. I ordered a 16oz Americano with room: 1) it was luke-warm and 2) tasted too watered down compared to what I am used to getting at other coffee shops. Not sure if this was a one off or their everyday quality.. Service was fast. My husband ordered a mocha and he said it was warm but had an odd taste, like burnt molasses... hmmm read more

Outrageous prices! I bought a sandwich made from two bread slices that didn't even contain meet and paid 7.20$!!! Neither the sandwich nor the shop justify that price. This cafe was pretty close to where I was staying so I dropped by several times in the AM to get coffee. The coffee was pretty good and the service was ... good. Not bad and not great. Perfunctory and a little brusque. I'm starting to sound like a small-towner here but I think that a smile with your hello goes a long way.
