This was my first time taking my fur-baby. I had been using a mobile company to groom my fur-baby but after pushing my appointment time back three hours I knew that I had to find something else. I went on Yelp and starting looking immediately and Broad Ripple Canine Design came up. I read the reviews and everything. Then made the call to see if I could get my fur-baby in for an appointment. The gentleman that took my call was very nice, professional, answered every question I had, let me know their process there and even how they cared for older dogs. Something very important to me being my fur-baby is older. I was able to get in for an appointment that next week and come to find out at the end of my call I was speaking with the owner the whole time. When it came time to take my fur-baby to her appointment everything went so smooth. The lady at the first desk, the actual lady that groomed my baby and other staff there. I needed my fur-baby paperwork stating that she was up to date. They called the Vet for me and the woman who groomed my fur-baby held her for me. I have never experienced so kindness and compassion like this. They told me what time to be back and when I arrived my baby was done. She looked amazing and the groomer had even given her treats. She let me know the name of the treats so that I could get some for at home. I absolutely love this place!! I will not take my fur-baby anywhere else. The love and care they gave my baby was above and beyond. They calmed me down especially with my baby being an older dog. To start things off, I've been taking my dogs here for nearly 14 years. I don't take them anywhere else. None of our dogs require cuts and grooming in the formal sense. It's usually just baths, mail trims, gland squeezing and such. Our little senior dog's breath is an issue so we often get his teeth cleaned for a small additional fee. We have always had them finish in a timely manner. When we can't get the dogs right when they are finished they usually sit cozy together in their kennel. As I read some of these other reviews - I like to consider why take your dog somewhere and try to force a facility to meet your needs (i.e. time restraint) than taking on a day when you have more time? I have also know MANY other locations to accidentally send a dog home with the wrong person. I'm not saying it isn't upsetting but it's human error. God forbid we get cancelled for our humanity. It hurts to see people going around finding reviews that are low ratings helpful because they are still in their feelings about an experience that wasn't made clear. Personally, I take my dogs and refer folks often. The prices are the fairest and before COVID sometimes my dog would get to just hang back as she waited for me to pick her up. Have they accidentally cut too far into the nails before? Yes. Once. It wasn't fun to deal w in my car but we survived. The joy these folks have in the work they do, the affordable prices and the willingness to work with me on short notice are all reasons I keep coming back. I'm not expecting their services to be perfect every single time. From what I know they seem to truly care about the animals that come through their doors and I e definitely seen otherwise at other doggie daycares and groomers. read more

I rarely write reviews, but I was very disappointed with my experience at Broad Ripple Canine Design. First off, when I called they quoted me $60-$80 depending on the size of your dog and level of cut needed. My dog is a 20 lb Cockapoo with no matting, and they charged $85. The quality of the cut was incredibly poor. I gave specific instructions and it seemed like the opposite of what I said was done. The cut was very uneven and left my dog with sore spots where he was cut too short. Would not recommend. read more

I just went to this location today for the first time. Drop off was easy. Groomer was nice . HOWEVER.... they gave my dog to a different owner!!!! How does this happen? Thank god that person came back to... or else I wouldn't have my dog. I used to take my dog here but we will NO longer be returning. His last 3 grooms have been uneven and horrible, there also was a price raise when I picked him up. When I called to discuss this with the groomer I was told there was a new "owner" he told me that they were under new management which is understandable. What I didn't like was not discussing the price increase before my dogs hair cut when we dropped him off. I told him I didn't like it and he was basically saying we can fix it next time, at in his next appointment. And that the price increased without a notice and can continue to increase because he's the owner. I'm extremely disappointed and will now be looking for a new groomer. I had to get my stinky pup cleaned up quick before Christmas (so he could come along on the family road trip) and my go-to groomer was all booked up! My vet tech recommended BR Canine & I called them up! They got my lil guy in the next day! They are a cash-only business, and they have a strict drop-off window. They will call you to notify you when your dog is done, and at that time they will tell you the total fee (mine matched the estimate they originally gave- but if there was matting it could have been raised). The staff were friendly and loving with my doggie. I'll add this place near the top of my list and if I'm in a pickle again, or if my primary groomer stops working I'll be back! read more

Scheduling 4 dogs and a cat to arrive at the same 8:00 am drop off while shaming owners for dog for nervous tinkles is questionable. I was also shamed for not having my cat declawed? This was my 1st time visiting Broad ripple K9 design. I booked in advance and was excited to let my 1st baby try a new place. My boyfriend dropped off my Fur baby at 7 o'clock AM. He was told that the groomer will give me a call to see how I wanted her cut. I never received that call. So as you can imagine, I go to pick her up and she was cut down extremely too low. I let the receptionist know that no one called to ask and her response was "oh, well here she is". I expressed the displeasure of her cut to the groomer and inquired as to why I never received a call. His response was "I'm sorry". They never offered me my money back, a discount anything. I felt they looked at me as an ignorant black woman and decided that they were going to do my baby hair any kind of way they wanted. If you are black, I would never recommend to use them. read more

I am not a regular reviewer. After the previous experience, we took my dog to other grooming salons where we could see Biki getting groomed. We realized that what Broad Ripple Canine said was true. Hence I take back my previous comment. This happened when Biki started limping suddenly and after taking him to the vet we realized that our rescue pup has elbow dysplasia hence he would react to trimmers in a certain way. I have been training him to get use to the haircuts but yes it would be rather difficult. I would pay $20 extra from their regular price of $50 if they did Biki's haircut and nails as I know he takes a lot of time and effort. I got my dog as a puppy during COVID and tried taking him to another groomer, but they wouldn't cut his hair or nails, then I found BRCD. I called and told them I wanted a short cut for my mini labradoodle, so they booked him with Kaylee. I was so pleased with his first groom and she asked what I wanted for him which is exactly what I got. I love that she always asks if I want the same cut as the previous time and doesn't assume anything. He loves Kaylee and the staff and gets so excited when we pull into the parking lot. I always get compliments on his haircut and have recommended a few people there and they loved them too! I was looking for someone to give my 7 month old Scottie his first ever haircut. My normal groomer couldn't get us in for another six weeks, so I called a few places looking to get in ASAP. Just an FYI, booking an appointment with any dog groomer usually means calling way in advance! Lucky me, I was able to get Peabody in the next day which was perfect since he needed to look good for family photos in a few days! You drop your pooch off between 7-9 and then after they are groomed you will get a call to come pick them up. Since I was working, I was able to leave him there and pick up after I got off. They are open until 5 for pick up, and they charge a $5 fee for every 15 minutes late you are. When I dropped him off in the morning they let me know that since it was his first experience with a groomer, they were going to take it slow and make it a good experience. It is not always possible to do a full grooming on a pup their first time, and rather then traumatize them and get the job done they would bathe, brush and clip them the best they could. However, I was very pleased to get the call around 11:00 AM that he did well and was ready for pickup! The cut was excellent! I am always worried that someone will mess up the Scottie cut, but our groomer did an amazing job! I was so pleased that they were able to give him a proper cut. This place is excellent and comes highly recommended by this yelper! The only reason they don't get 5 stars is because they only accept cash and check which can be inconvenient. They used to do a great job on my two doggies so I feel sad and disappointed to write this review, but it needs to be done. We groom our dogs ourselves most of the year but take them in once or twice a year for professional grooming. We took them in right after our son was born because we didn't want the extra stress of grooming our dogs while caring for a newborn. As it turns out, caring for a newborn is a piece of cake compared to the stress caused by our visit. First, they cut the quick of my dogs nail (badly) and didn't stop the bleeding. When we picked her up, they never even told us she was cut. My husband picked them up and he didn't notice she was bleeding. He dropped them off at home and she bled ALL over my living room rug and couch. I called and they responded with "sorry, sometimes this happens." They told us we could bring her back and they'd stop her bleeding (which they did) but they did not take responsibility beyond that. I can accept that this type of accident sometimes happens (especially with a squirmy dog like mine), but why wouldn't they stop the bleeding right away let us know what happened?! I have cut the quick before and you notice right away that you've gone too far; the groomer and manager were completely negligent in this situation. Three weeks later, we have a flea infestation at our house. It is cold outside so I don't believe they came from outside and our dogs have not been in contact with any other dogs. Before the groomer my dogs were not itchy at all. They started itching two days after the appointment and I kept thinking maybe the shampoo dried out their skin (I never thought in a million years it could be fleas). I can't prove that they gave my dogs fleas but based on the above VERY poor customer service and business practices, as well as the timing of the infestation, I am quite sure that's where they came from. So now, on top of caring for a newborn, I have had to completely clean my house top to bottom several times, including blood stain removal. We are also treating our dogs for fleas now and will most likely have to hire an exterminator. We will never go back and recommend you don't either. read more

PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR DOGS HERE! I will start by saying overall the actual grooms we have received have been fine- Not great but no major issues with the actual grooming that has taken place at canine design. Our groomer was Dena, and none of my issues were her fault- she was very sweet and was brought into a bad situation. I have a 7 Y.O, 90lb golden doodle who gets groomed about 4 times a year. we have moved around a bit, so he has been to a handful of groomers. Obviously, he is big and he doesn't like the blow dryer, so his grooming appointment can take some time- usually around 3.5- 4 hours at every other place we've ever gone. I will also note there were no issues that would have caused a delay like extreme matting or anything weird with his coat. The second time I took him to K9 Design, his groom took around 7-8 hours. I called mid-groom to find out why this process was taking so long and was told that they bring all the dogs in first thing in the morning, bathe them all, them groom them one at a time. This made me really uncomfortable to think that he was sitting in a crate for an extended period of time, especially since because of COVID they are not allowing owners inside (which is totally fine and I completely understand, just a comment that I could not see the crate area). I was told in the future I could make an appointment and request he be first in and first out to avoid this. For his next appointment I requested this and told them that I needed to pick him at noon (7am drop off time). I said I would be happy to pay extra to ensure this happened and he didn't spend the day in a crate. A note about this was apparently never left in the file, and the man I talked to about it was unfortunately out sick that day. I called at around 10:45 am to get an update, and was told he was the first bathed but they hadn't start his groom yet. Which meant he had probably spent about 3 hours at that time wet, in a crate. I told them how upset I was about this and they assured me they would text me with frequent updates and they would get started on him shortly. I didn't hear from them until 1:15 when I was told they were bringing him outside to go to the bathroom, so about another 2 hours or so that he sat in a crate. At 330 (so roughly 9 hours of grooming) I told them we were done and I was picking him up. This is unacceptable and ridiculous. Please find a different groomer and don't subject your dogs to this. read more

I just rescued my dog back in December. This was my first time ever taking him to get groomed! I was super impressed by the staff and how knowledgeable they were. I had no idea what type of cut a border collie needed and they knew exactly what to do with him! Finding a great groomer in the Broad Ripple area proved to be harder than I thought. I tried everything from the cheaper (PetSmart) to what I thought was nicer (Good Dog). I found that both places did horrible cuts and that after two trips my dogs dreaded going back. Good Dog was so bad that my dogs would not go through the front doors. That all changed at Broad Ripple Canine Design. Curt is the groomer that helped me but everyone there seemed to be great with dogs. My dogs love going to this groomer and they get the best haircuts I have ever seen. I thought that you take your pets to a groomer to help do things you cant do. We have a newly 1 yr old old english sheepdog with a mane that is hard to manage. We groom her at home as often as possible but she only lasts oh so long before she gets antsy and wants to play. Understandable for a baby. We just went in to drop her off -called yesterday and explained we just wanted a bath and help with dematting- and when we arrived they refused to take her. They basically said in front of others that we are bad dog owners and that we should be grooming everyday and that she is in pain and they will not take her in. Okay- whoa. First off I'm aware that we should brush her often.... come on over lady and you try it. This is why we are going to pay you money as a professional to help us on what we cant do alone!! She basically said it would cost to much money to get the job done... did I ever say how much I wanted to spend? I appreciate the heads up but once again came to you looking for a service. I get it if my dog was going to be a difficult project but have better manners when you speak to someone. I've been having my dogs groomed here for years, and have recommended BRCD to my friends. I have a older Shih Tzu and a rescue Cavalier King Charles, and they both seem happy to go to get groomed at "the spa" as I call it, and they look great afterwards. I have driven past this salon many times and heard a few good reviews from friends, so decided to give it a shot. Unfortunately I waited around for an entire day only to be called at the last minute and told they would not groom my dog because he's "too old." I had an appointment for the Friday before Christmas for a bath and nail trim for my senior dog. It was our first time going to this salon, which I informed them when I made the appointment. They asked no other questions about him except his name and breed. When I arrived to drop him off at 8:45 AM, I met with the groomer, Sarah, and let her know he is not dog friendly. She was concerned he would need to stay in a kennel all day and asked if I could bring him back later that afternoon when she was finished with her other clients and she would take care of him then. That sounded better for my dog, so I happily agreed. She had no other concerns about grooming him, mentioned how sweet he was and how quick it'd be to give him a bath, and promised to call me back by 2 PM. At 3 PM I still hadn't heard from her so I called back to ask what time to bring him - she said 4 PM. At 3:55 PM, literally as I was about to pull into the parking lot, I received a call from the front desk that they would not be able to groom my dog because he is a senior and "poses a liability." I was told that I could contact the owner after the holidays to file a formal complaint. The owner called me about an hour later and said the reason they couldn't see my dog is because he isn't dog friendly. She then determined that the groomer probably had too many clients because it was right before Christmas and they were super busy. She continued to go on and on about how her staff should have asked me for more information before making the appointment, they should have called me back on time, and frankly should have never agreed to see him in the first place. Basically I received several different reasons from multiple people but none of their stories lined up. Unfortunately she never offered me any kind of solution, like inviting me to come back to make things right. I spent my entire day waiting around for the groomer to call me back, drove to the salon twice for no reason, and was left at 4 PM on a Friday with no other options to take him somewhere else. The staff and owner are clearly in need of some additional professional training and customer service skills - definitely wouldn't recommend them and certainly not if you have a dog that is "too old" or not dog friendly as that seems to be more than they can accommodate. read more

I have taken my dog here multiple times and some haircuts have been good and some have been bad. After today, I will never return. My dog was scheduled for a haircut today and I asked for the same stylist he had last time. When my husband dropped our dog off, they couldn't find his card and had no record of who had cut his hair before. When we picked our dog up, his cut was uneven and parts of his back side had been shaved down to his skin and now he has a splotchy looking back side and an uneven cut all around. In addition, our dog's personality has been off since he got home, so we are concerned about how he may have been treated while he was there. We will not be back. read more

This review is long overdue. My husband and I took our 140 lb mastiff to this grooming salon for a much needed groom. We dropped him off and 2 hours later receive a call from the facility (assuming Nash was done at this point) only for the employee to tell us our dog had broken a tooth!!!! They told us that our dog got so stressed out while being crated that he tried biting through the kennel and broke his tooth. Apparently they let our 140 lb mastiff sit in a tiny crate for close to 2 hours to "dry". His broken tooth ended up costing us thousands and we had to have it extracted. Will never go back and would highly recommend nobody take their dog here. read more
