My partner and I decided to go to this restaurant because of the romantic decor and positive reviews. We were not disappointed at all! We requested to be seated in the courtyard area where is heated and fully covered - they mentally prepared us that there could be a influx in temperature because of the doors that open and heater above you. It was hot at times cause of the heaters directly above my head...oh well..they warned us! The moment we were greeted by the staff it was an amazing experience! They brought us complimentary champagne as it was our anniversary and a lot of staff came by to congratulate us. They had the common food selection but it was presented and cooked beautifully. I got the duck breast and unlike most places, it didn't take like ham with too much syrup. Our server (Aaron) was very good about timing the food and making sure it was coming out at the pace we wanted. Our glasses were never empty and always topped off every time he came by. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who has not been! :) read more

We came here with a good expectation and it came out so disappointing. We ordered the duck breast, lingcod and the pork cheek pasta. Duck breast and pasta were alright and the lingcod was flavorless. The service was HORRIBLE. They only filled up our water once, and took FOREVER to get our meal (probably a good half an hour at least after our appetizer). The table came with bread knives and plate and there was no bread at all while we were waiting. In the end the server rushed us to get our bill when we were still sipping our wine. When I was wondering what was the butter knives and plates for, he ARGUED that he SAW us having bread and hummus (we wish we did so we wouldn't be so HUNGRY before our main). We probably won't come here again unless it is someone's special event read more

Someone by the name of David H. from Brix and Mortar messaged me after I posted my last review. He said the last thing they want is to be perceived to be deceiving and offered me a gift card. Bad on my part for taking a while to respond, but it's been 2 months since I responded and I still have not received the gift card. So much for not being deceiving... read more

Pretty nice restaurant, slightly overpriced, but quality of food is well maintained most of the time. We tried the tenderloin, spinach risotto, and some other side dishes. Can't say they are beyond expectations, but we wouldn't mind order again in the future. read more

We (me and husband) both had a different cocktail to start with and they were divine. (rich flavors and not to sweet before dinner) I had the cod on risotto (almost perfect, the risotto could have gotten 1 minute longer, but I am not going to give them less point for that) and my husband had gnocchi with smoked swordfish. As side dish we took vegetables. We drank a white wine (a pino gris, but I forgot which one) which was dry and perfect with the fish. We also enjoyed the bread (cumin bread was really good) No dessert, but we'll be back! The staff was also very friendly. read more

Found this place on yelp and glad we did. Came on a Monday and wines under $100 are 30% off. What a deal. On top of that, there was a great guitarist who serenaded us during dinner. Our server was delightful. Will have to recommend this place to my friends back home. read more

Dined at this restaurant yesterday evening to celebrate me and my partner's 4 year anniversary. The garden terrace is beautiful and the perfect setting for a romantic dinner. We were greeted by our server, Laura, at the table who was very pleasant. We started with enjoying a few wine flights featuring French and Bordeaux wines. We were able to taste through all the samples and determine which wine we wanted to proceed to order. We ordered the mussels and focaccia bread to start, both the mussels and broth were extremely flavorful and the bread was perfectly salted and paired well with the mussel broth. Dinner we enjoyed the duck breast and lamb shank, which were both perfectly cooked and just the right size for portion. We finished off with bread pudding for dessert, which was the recommendation of our server, Laura. The presentation of all the dishes were impeccable. We were also given complimentary glasses of Moet & Chandon as we were celebrating 4 years. Overall, the evening was perfect, the price was worth every penny, and would definitely return! Highly recommend. read more

We stopped for after dinner drinks and even though they were busy and we were not eating the lovely hostess accommodated us on the patio! My dirty martini was an 'ok' but my 4 stars are for service and an incredible dessert:) read more

My boyfriend took me to Brix yesterday on Valentines day for dinner. Their $55 menu looked inviting and the atmosphere seemed romantic. Little did I know that hours later I would suffer the fate of falling VIOLENTLY ILL from food poisoning. For starters, I had the ALBACORE TUNA NICOISE SALAD, which seemed fresh but lacking in flavour. My boyfriend had the AAA BEEF CARPACCIO. Next I had the GRILLED LOCAL SOCKEYE SALMON "Grilled medium rare, head on prawns, saltspring island mussels, roma tomato cioppino". I believe this is the dish that gave me food poisoning. The sauce tasted very strange, and gave a weird aftertaste, and the prawns were mushy and lacking elasticity as you would normally expect from fresh prawns. I didn't bother to complain about the dish, as it was valentines and I did not wish to ruin the mood. My boyfriend ordered the QUEBEC BROME LAKE DUCK TRIO entree. Lastly, we shared the dessert between us. 1.5 hours later, I experienced excruciating belly pain, along with the terrible after taste of my entree dish. What followed was puking 5 times and diarrhea. Needless to say, I was up all night contemplating whether I should go to the ER. Even now, a day later, I still have the after taste of my entree dish, and continuous stomach pains. I am 99% sure I got food poisoning from the food at Brix, as I had barely eaten anything earlier in the day. My boyfriend didn't experience food poisoning as he didn't have the same seafood dishes that I ordered. We had tried to contact the restaurant but did not hear from the manager yet. IF ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS, please contact me or make note of your experience on here. PLEASE. read more

Great spot for an evening beverage. Will come back for dinner. The staff are fantastic. Especially Chris. Thank you for the great service!

Walking the thin line between high quality wine, food and atmosphere versus annoying pretentiousness is a difficult task and one that many restaurants in Vancouver, and especially Yaletown fail at miserably. Brix, on the other hand excels in providing all of the above while avoiding the hipster only vibe. We were a group of four for dinner and drinks. Our server was friendly, personable and able to make good recommendations from both the wine list and menu. I had the duck breast as my entree and it was perfect. A few minor gripes not really worth going into detail about. All in all a great night out and worth trying One caveat: with an average bottle of wine, dinner and dessert be prepared to shell out about $175 (with tip) by the end of the night per couple. read more

We visited during Dine out - wanted courtyard seating and called 10 days out, worked our date around availability of courtyard seating. When we arrived, we were directed to the section downstairs! No way i was going to dine there! The manager sorted it out and we got our seating after a wait. Server was great, before heading out I saw their menu and had decided I was going a la carte - drooling over pork belly & duck confit! Unfortunately they had trimmed down the menu during dine out. Food was good, flavourful and efficiently served. Between meals one of the staff walked by and topped up my wine and asked if I wanted a refill, didn't realize he was the owner - Patrick. Great guy, very cool little restaurant. Enjoyed our meal My one star lower rating comes from reservation handling - don't start off a customer experience on a disappointment...tough to regain. Will definitely visit again and recommend! read more

I recently hosted a work event here on a weekday evening. The manager and team were fantastic to work with, and were super accommodating to our every request. Our group of 12 really enjoyed the venue, food and wine! The lamb skewers, mussels, and Brussels spouts were delicious, and the desserts (Dark Chocolate Pot and Panna Cotta) were amazing! Would highly recommend!! Thanks again for such a great experience! read more

A great restaurant in Yaletown. The halibut entree was delicious and fresh. The manager was very nice and talked to us after our meal about Vancouver and our hometown of New York. I would definitely go back! read more

Brix is a trendy and high-end restaurant located in beautiful Yaletown. I love Yaletown because of its brick roads and its delicious restaurants. All the best restaurants and bakeries are in this neighborhood. *cough* Ganache *cough* I had the chance to go to Brix this winter for the Fine dining event organized by the Food Society. The restaurant is gorgeous. The front door leads to a courtyard which a ceiling over it which means that it is warm and customers can eat "outside". There is then a second door leading to the inside of the restaurant. The restaurant itself is very nice inside. There were candles on each table giving the whole restaurant a very romantic and intimate atmosphere. The food was succulent too. We had a set menu as part of the event (well, one vegetarian and one non-vegetarian). For starters, we had organic green salad, English cucumber, vine ripened tomato, shaved fennel & carrot, sweet shallot vinaigrette. It was very fresh and a nice way to start the meal. It was light and very easy on the stomach. Afterwards, we were served pan roasted local ling cod, crisp skin, snap pea risotto and tomato tarragon coulis. The cod was toasted on the top but the inside was soft. Overall, the whole dish was succulent since the fish might not have a lot of flavor but the coulis gave the dish a lot of flavor. For dessert, we got panna cotta. The cream was nice and I found small vanilla beans which I have been told is a sign that it's a great dessert. Overall, I was really pleased with the whole meal. Even though, it was a 3-course meal, I didn't feel too heavy after eating. The service was also very nice. The servers were polite, efficient and professional. The food was served quickly. In brief, I had a really nice time at Brix. The restaurant is gorgeous. The food is succulent. We paid 35$ including the food, the tax and the tip. It was fair for all this food, but I don't think I could afford it all the time on a student's budget. Total (categories are out of 5): Food: 5/5 Service: 4/5 Price: 3/5 read more

For sure not for wedding party, they should improve at their management and don't treat people like a idiot!

I'd lean more towards a 4.5 - half a point deduction for service. We were in their new location; the one with entrance off of Hamilton Street. I liked this "location" far better than their space which is off of Homer Street. I think that space is being predominantly used for private events. We ordered plates to share off of the appetizer list. Seriously great food; salad was fantastic; mussels were amongst the best I've had - couldn't get over the broth it came in and the carpaccio. I usually hate carpaccio and loved this one. Cocktail menu is fun. Wine list is extensive. Bonus: On Monday bottles of wine under $100 are 30% off. Sounds like a win to me! Service was friendly but just slightly haphazard. She was on top of us when we didn't really need it but not around when we did. There was some points of extensive delay for wine refill. Overall, an enjoyable night. read more

Courtyard was very nice - highlight of our dining experience. Nothing special about the food. I had the crab and shrimp cocktail and AAA flat iron steak. Have had better at less fancy restaurants I'm a pretty low maintenance customer. As long as the server meets expectations of social norms - ie. friendly and polite - I am happy. But our service experience was very disappointing for a restaurant like this. Gratuity was included with our bill so perhaps this is the reason our server was not attentive and extremely slow. Quite frankly, his facial expressions told what he felt about us. In the end, you could tell he wasn't patient enough (how ironic) to wait for us to figure out our bill with a his debit machine in hand. He passed us on to another server to handle the final payment without a word... read more

We came here for the Taste of Yaletown promotion; the food was good, but wasn't amazing. For $35 it was reasonable. We had a party of 8 and they added in gratuity then put the tax on top of the tip which we thought was weird. We talked to the manager about it and he was kind enough to say that he can take it off the bill. Overall, service was good, but we just thought it was weird how they put tax on top of a tip. The panna cotta was a bit sour; the syrup they put on top was really tart. I probably wouldn't come back again; for that price, you can get amazing food elsewhere like La Quercia, Kits Daily, or Bibo. The patio/garden we sat was nice though. read more

Brix and Mortar has an ambitious menu that fails to deliver. We had a selection of tapas that included a very salty selection of bread, salty Squid, and a salty pork belly dish that seemed dry and not really cut in a way to be easily served. For my main, I order the tagliatelle bolognese which was also kinda salty but also had way too much sauce to pasta ratio. I think it's the first time I've said that about a pasta. It was relatively decent but, after all the salty dishes, I had to consume 2 litres of water to balance it out. On the plus side, the service was excellent, the ambience was warm and inviting, and , after giving some feedback to the owner(?) I felt genuine concern and appreciation... although, after reading other reviews regarding the salt levels, I'm not convinced they take action on any critiques. I'd also quip that the price point seems way to high for the quality of food. I think it reflects the location more than the menu. Yaletown ain't cheap! read more

Brought clients here for a weekday business dinner and was overwhelmed by the quality, taste, atmosphere and service. Impeccably prepared fish dishes; superb salads and the wine tasting flights were an unexpected and awesome addition. Will be back! read more

We went to this for our 2016 Taste of Yaletown on a Friday night. This place was on bucket list for a while and I was disappointed after our experience. When we arrived on that night, I was surprise that they kept must of the layout from the last venue, but still it was a beautiful dining room. On the set menu, we ordered the Humboldt Squid, Hannah Brook Farm Salad, Brome Lake Duck Confit, Wild Local Salmon and Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta. The Humboldt Squid was a deep fried batted squid with a dip on the side. The squid dish was good but it was a little bland in taste compare similar dish in other pub. The farm salad was good but the chef tossed with too much dressing. Therefore, my salad was wet and the vinaigrette was overwhelmed my taste bud. The Duck Confit and Salmon dish was great. The meat were cooked perfectly but typical in taste for most fine dining. As for the sides for each dishes, they were lukewarm and they tasted like they have been in a serving tray for a while. The Cotta dessert tasted ok. It was a typical custard pudding and there was not much to comment on it. Overall, my dinner was ok and the set menu was over priced in my opinion. (The original price was $42 per person, TOY - $35). read more

I really enjoyed the salmon dish here, very fresh and well seasoned - glad to have stumbled on this place my last night in Vancouver.

Well it was a slow empty Monday night but the soup special though tasty has a scum on the surface because it had been plated to early, with 3 tables in the restaurant this never should have been the case and hunting for the sablefish in the cold sablefish gnocchi is never a good sign of things to come. The service was very good but the kitchen must have had the 4th line in working and they couldn't keep up with the 3 tables' orders. Come on Brix set it up. read more

We were on a birthday vacation from San Francisco and we walked around Yaletown to find a restaurant for the celebratory dinner. I'm so glad we found this place! We sat in the patio, which has a glass ceiling and heating lamps, which made it very cozy. It's a gorgeous patio with plants, vines, low lights, overall very romantic. Our waiter, Rufus, was really nice, made great dinner and wine suggestions. It was a great dinner, great atmosphere, and super great meal! read more

My fiancee and I were searching for a wedding venue when we came across Brix and Mortar. After doing some research and looking at pictures online we decided that this restaurant had everything we were looking for and were very excited to go check it out. We met with one the event coordinators and absolutely loved what the space had to offer. Unfortunately, our experience with the event coordinator was extremely negative and resulted in the loss of our business. We are having a relatively small wedding during the week in September; we were fully aware of the minimum spend required before arriving for our appointment. We were made to feel that our 30 person wedding would not be worth hosting at their restaurant and that their minimum spend would be too high for us. She was very erratic in her conversation and never fully answered any questions we had. If it hadn't been for the event coordinator that met with us, we would have definitely been booking our wedding there. Overall, a very disappointing experience and I would not recommend this venue to other brides/grooms. I hope my experience was out of the ordinary for this restaurant. read more

We enjoyed the food from wine, appetizers main menu to dessert. One of the go to restos in town!

We came here for dine out and definitely thought it was worth it. We ended up arriving at the back entrance but got everything sorted quickly. FYI it says Homer street but really you want Hamilton. The food was delicious. We started with lamb skewers and kale Caesar salad. The lamb was tasty and had a lovely sauce. The salad was a nice spin on a familiar favorite. I had the duck with Brussel sprouts and roasted sweet potatoes and it was amazing. Melt in your mouth good. My boyfriend had the steak and it was also very good. We took the wine pairing advice and were not disappointed. I definitely found a new favorite. Desserts were panna cotta and pot de creme, fairly good though typical of restaurant desserts. The only drawback in my mind was the servers. We were sat beside the server station despite the restaurant being largely empty and could see and hear them goofing around. It definitely didn't add to the atmosphere. When she came to the table she was fine though we could see her being more chatty and friendly with the next door table but possibly that's because we were a couple "on a date" versus two girls out for the evening. However, I would recommend this place to anyone and would definitely come back. read more

The food and drinks here were spot on. The only thing that could improve would be if the atmosphere was less noisy. Very disappointed-- this was one of my favorite restaurants in Vancouver and I excitedly paid a visit for date night. Unfortunately, I was met with poor service. The patio was too warm and I had kindly requested to move to a different table, and the waitress immediately looked pissed. She ignored me when I said thank you and then didn't come back to fill my water, or ask how the food was (the restaurant was not busy). She didn't even bring us food, and one of the other servers was confused as to who was serving us. I think management noticed and came by to ask how we were enjoying our meal. The food was good, but for what you're paying for, the service and ambience made it not worth, especially when you can get equally good food and better service elsewhere downtown. Sad I will no longer be returning. read more
