Two of my friends and i came here last night to try out their taste menu. We both loved the food and the ambience. However, the service did really turn us off. We ordered house baked breads and the breads came out at our table were cold. We politely asked the waiter to warm up the breads. He went to ask another waiter and came back to us and said that they couldn't because they would have to go all the way to the other side of the restaurant, where the kitchen was, to warm up the breads. Okay, what a lame excuse! Some minutes later, a guy, the restaurant manager i think, went to every table to ask how the services and food were. When he came to us, we asked him politely again if we could get the breads warm. He, then, made a different excuse that they always made the breads once a day before they open the restaurant so the breads would always be served cold like that. To this point, i was quite disappointed. I don't know because we were so used to getting warm breads at other restaurants so we were just being too picky about the breads here. But the way they handle guest's requests were very unprofessional. If you didn't want to warm up the breads because it was too much work, then just tell us straight up. The manager and the waiter didn't have to make up different excuses like that. Also, the waitress we got last night didn't help to make our experiences any better. She seemed extremely exhausted and a bit irritated with us. Maybe it was a busy Saturday night and they were having a private event inside the restaurant so they had to neglect other small groups (3 people) like us to focus on other big groups since they made more money out of them. 4.5 stars for food 4 stars for ambience 1.5 stars for the service read more

What an AMAZING experience ! Visiting from California for the first time and found this restaurant on yelp. Ambience of the outdoor courtyard was gorgeous. My fiancé and I came here for my birthday. It started out with our incredible cocktail " from Canada with love" which quickly turned into 3. Our waiter Mosey was awesome throughout the whole dinner. We unknowingly stayed past their open hours and instead of trying to rush us out and be rude Mosey wrote us a list of amazing local bars/restaurants to go to since we were first time visitors! Won't forget this experience and needless to say the taste of yaletown was delicious too! read more

My wife and I had dinner at Brix and Mortar with some friends this past Saturday - the last time I was there about 10 years ago, it was just known as "Brix" - and it was simply outstanding. We were seated at an outside table on their Hamilton Street courtyard, and the "al fresco" experience was a very nice bonus. Brix and Mortar has an excellent cocktail and wine list, with the latter exceptionally well-priced; $57 for a bottle of one of my favourite BC white wines, Black Hills' Alibi, is very reasonable. The meal was excellent; I had the bourbon and chicken liver pate - which at $10, is an outstanding value - and the pan-roasted lingcod, both of which were excellent. Others in our party were equally impressed with their choices, which included the tomato and cheese salad, the sous-vide pork chop, the seared duck breast and the beetroot gnocchi. All in all, it was a very memorable evening, and I will not wait another 10 years to go back! read more

We had special dish of the day. It was like Asian style, lemongrass and ginger etc. We LOVED it !! It was soooooooo good. Def Wanna visit again !!!! Thanks :) read more

The food was just... good. I had been to The Botanist the night before and was looking to follow this awesome experienced with a second night of fine dining, perhaps an unfair expectation to place on the evening. The staff were nice enough and the food was good, but it certainly wasn't amazing. They brought my husband the wrong appetizer, which they removed from the bill, but the cocktails were a little of the watery side and the whole experience was just a little more miss than hit. P.S. Try The Botanist!! read more

I came to Brix & Mortar for Dine Out Vancouver, and after requesting a table in the patio, I was a bit disappointed to be seated in the less desirable and much noisier inside seating area. Oh well. Going with the flow as per usual... The menu for Dine Out Vancouver was limited, but priced right. I ordered the celeriac and Bartlett pear soup which was simply outstanding. The main was salmon with shrimp and fennel risotto which I found a bit too garlicky, but the salmon was moist as the chef prefers to cook it medium-rare. Fine with me. I added on the prosciutto-wrapped scallops and they were delicious, if not a bit over-cooked. The menu options came with wine pairing suggestions and though I didn't order that way, it is a nice, if not customary touch from a nice fancy restaurant. The service was very attentive but not over-bearing, friendly and appreciated. If I can figure out how to get a seat on the patio, I'll be back. read more

I came here for my birthday dinner with some friends. The food Overall the food was okay and just okay. I ordered the artisan cheese and charcuterie platter and 2 orders of press for the table. All of which were nothing to write home about. We all ordered cocktails and a bottle of Prosecco. Do not order the "Hazy Days" cocktail, it was the worst drink we have ever tasted. Our entrees took forever to arrive and when they did we were sorely disappointed. Everything was again just ok. Our waitress seemed to forget about us and left us to pour our own Prosecco which she placed on a service table. When it came time to order dessert our order was taken but it took quite a while to arrive. Overall the food quality is okay but nothing to write home about. Service The service can use some work. The servers seemed more attentive to the smaller tables and left us trying to flag someone down to order. Ambience The over all appearance of the restaurant is quite nice however it is DARK. we were seated in the corner by a brick wall so it made out table even darker. After we were all a bit disappointed with our visit and I'm not sure if I'd return. read more

Un....freaking...believable......soooo good!!! So, my husband and I ordered out from their "taste of yaletown" menu tonight. We have not been there in years, and used a gift certificate. The food was incredible, very hot still after picking it up ourselves and a 20 minute drive home. We ordered the pork belly, the squash soup, the lamb shank ( huge !) and had the lemon panna cottage for dessert. Hands down, the best meal we've had during COVID!!! We will definitely be ordering from there again, was wayyyyyyy better than any other takeout food I've had. You will not regret ordering from here, excellent value! We are looking forward to exploring the rest of the menu, it all looks wonderful. read more

Came here with my girlfriend, and I was not disappointed! The food portions were reasonably sized and very delicious. The food quality is on par with the pricing, which is expensive but worth it. I had the duck breast and it was really really solid. The atmosphere was cute and cozy, and really good for a date. The indoor seating has relatively loud music though, so be weary if you're soft spoken or hard of hearing. read more

We had a very positive experience starting with the reservation. I left a message when the restaurant was closed and received a call back quickly. The host asked if we were celebrating anything. I told him that my wife was graduating. When we arrived, the owner or manager congratulated my wife shortly after we were seated. He asked her what she just graduated from and was genuinely interested in her success. He came back with a glass of champagne for her on the house. :)Very nice touch! We had a group of ten and everyone was pleased with their meals (100%-even my wife was pleased and she is picky.... obviously because she married me) and the service was excellent! I was very happy with our choice to celebrate my wife's success at Brix and Mortar. read more

I really wanted to like this place. The ambiance, menu and service we're fantastic. All the dishes were good except they were lacking. I recommend then halibut. The pork chop was tasty but very fatty. The only other complaint was the cost of liquor. The reforma craft cocktail (Don Julio martini) was great but cost $17. Afterwards I ordered some Don Julio reposado and was charged $22 for the drink. It seemed a little abusive. read more

Wonderful! What a venue! A beautiful combination of elegance and casual. Fantastic service and food!

Hal at the bar was the best bartender!! And the Manager Pat was also so sweet and accommodating. My mom and I just popped in for a drink before our dinner but it was the best pre-dinner drinks because of Hal and Pat. read more

I had a small dinner with a couple of good friends for an early birthday celebration and my oh my, it's been 3 years since I last visited Brix (and for another one of my birthdays in fact) and it did not disappoint. Everything from the service to the food to the ambiance, it was fantastic. I indicated on my OpenTable reservation that I'd prefer a table in the courtyard for 6 if possible and that I was celebrating a birthday, and although I know you can't reserve the courtyard, we showed up to find that amazingly enough, we had a table for our size reserved and waiting for us right underneath the chandelier. Every drink and dish we had was magnificent so it would take too long to explain each one. Our unanimous favourite of the table was the cauliflower chickpea risotto actually, which was a huge surprise. I never order dishes without a protein so I was skeptical about how good it would taste but I would honestly order that dish everyday for a month and not get sick of it. My rockfish was delicious with the crab and the fantastic grits, so so SO good. My friends half hen was HUGE, twice the size of regular portions, yet it was still so juicy. And the mussels were a STEAL for $13 or $14. The portion was huge and 3 people shared each order and nicely filled up with that. The matchstick potatoes were sooooo tasty, reminding me of hickory sticks. And the house-made pancetta along with the very smokey and perfectly priced white wine broth, you will die and go to heaven. Our waiter, Colter was so attentive, extremely friendly and very knowledgeable. Needless to say, it remains one of my favourite in vancouver for a very high calibre meal without the price tag. If you haven't tried, I definitely recommend coming here. You don't know what you're missing. After 3 years, it's only gotten better and I didn't know that was possible! Thanks Brix and your wonderful staff for making my birthday (MONTH, ha!) such a memorable one. read more

I really wanted to like Brix, esp as it was highly recommended to me by locals and I was looking for some Yaletown eats. Though service was nice, it unfortunately missed on major levels: 1) The Smell. Yeah, like the dining room stunk like mildew & wet rot. So much of eating is about the smell, and seriously, I could not get over how yuckyo it was, permeating through every breath. I hate bad smells. 2) The Food. We did the Taste of Yaletown menu, basically a 3-course prix fixe. My buddy liked his buffalo mozz app and lamb chop main; but my duck salad and steak main were both really... I don't know... amateur. The greens were overdressed (and huge no-no unless you're talking about clothes), the duck was tough & flavorless, and the flank steak was a total D- cut, sinewy to the point that I stopped after 1 slice. Passed on dessert, as did he. (What's up with no cheese course?) That's 1/3 of the prix fixe and we didn't even care. Sunk costs for you economists out there. The space is neighborhood chic & appropriate for romantic or business dining. With the large patio replete with a ceiling of overhead heaters - sheer genius, considering Van winters - to the eclectic, indie-cool loungey feel inside (and a disco ball!), Brix does have potential... But alas, a hot body that smells bad and has no personality won't cut it. read more

Examine your bill closely. The place is very nice and beautiful. We were seated at the basement which is equally beautiful as upstairs. The food however was awful., especially considering the price. They were very salty. This was the comment of almost everyone. We had a mix of early 20s and over 50's as guests and everybody was commenting the same about the food. The most annoying part is when they handed our bills. We all had separate bills. We were charged 18% gratuity and another 18% something service charge. Yes, you better watch your bills and examine them closely. When we inquired about it, the server said that they are shown twice but if we do the math, the amount is only taken once. So of course we did the math, and YES the service charge and the gratuity were added twice. Interestingly enough, the descriptions are different and amounts are slightly different too. So bottom line, they charged us 36% tip. The server then issued us an amended bills after much discussion and time proving to them that we were charged twice. When my sister was coming back from the washroom, she overheard the servers saying "they caught it". On top of that, they charged $ 2 per person for slicing the cake we brought even if someone did not have cake. I opted not to have a cake but my bill showed $ 2 charge. Overall, my experience at this restaurant deserves no stars at all. I will never come back. read more

My wife and I decided to go back to Brix, this time with aTravel Zoo voucher for a 3-course meal. We got there at 9:30 pm and the staff seemed annoyed that we were late but they got better. The voucher fine print noted that you could upgrade your entree to beef tenderloin for an additional $3. The server didn't have a clue so the manager (Carina) came. She kept arguing with us over the fine print, saying we had to pay the difference between the tenderloin and the cheaper entrees (what a joke!). She also charged an extra $6 on top of that. The server ended up resolving it (perhaps to get tip) but how unprofessional of the manager and the drunk owner who came by at some point just to watch her argue with us (he didn't say a word). Maybe hire a manager who can read and do math! It's sad because we had a fairly good time up until that happened. The point of offering these deals is to get people to come back to help your business. Obviously they don't understand that. We enjoyed the bread and the desserts but the the steaks were subpar. We were thinking of coming back for dessert and late-night drinks but we will definitely not come back as there are far better restaurants in this city. I have never seen or experienced a manager arguing at a table. Sadly we were the only ones left in the restaurant. I wish there were other people to witness their behaviour. Goodbye Brix! read more

Went to Brix last summer while hosting guests. To be honest, it was George where I wanted to take them to, not Brix. But George was curiously loud with no place to sit so we made the trek upstairs to Brix. We were given a table on their covered patio. The atmosphere was perfect. It felt European. Intimate and enticing the senses. It happened to be a Monday night (Industry night) so we unexpectedly got 40% off our bottles of wine. They also had a $10 pizza special as well, though I'm not sure if this is part of their industry night special. Anyone care to enlighten me? We ordered the cheese platter and two pizzas. The service was attentive but not patronizing. They kept our water glasses full and walked around to refill wine glasses. All in all a great experience. And who could not love the great deal on wine and pizza? Certainly not a recessionista like myself! read more

Wonderful experience! A nice switch up from my usual go to spots for dinner and drinks. The menu is diverse so likely something on there for everyone. I shared the squid, lamb skewers and tagliatelle and all were delicious (especially the squid! Lightly battered and perfectly crisp). There were twelve of us here for a birthday dinner and service was solid (although cocktails did take an inordinate time to receive, especially for ladies wanting to get their night started ;)) A bonus was Ryan Reynolds was eating here at the same time so I can say this place is Deadpool approved! read more

Brix was the first choice for my wedding because it reminds me of NYC with the exposed bricks and old world charm. I also did a lot of research beforehand and wanted the food to be top notch since this was a destination wedding for most of our family and friends. I worked with Jennifer on all the pre-wedding matters. She manages all the weddings there and you can tell that she has had plenty of experience with weddings because she was making suggestions and pointing out things I never though about. Not only that, she was never pushy and provided all the different options I could have based on my budget. As the day of the wedding approached, our point person changed, but everything ran smoothly with their assigned coordinator on the wedding day. David, Jennifer's husband and one of the ownders, was super accommodating with opening early days before so that we could have our wedding rehearsal. The only downside for the bride is that there is no changing room, but I stayed in my wedding dress so I had no problem. Their professionalism and service was stellar and I would highly recommend Brix for anyone looking to have an intimate wedding--their courtyard with the chandelier is unparalleled and provides coverage in case it rains (I had a summer wedding). The appetizers during cocktail hour were great and the meal? Let's just say, our guests are still talking about it. After the cake, we also had a variety of late night pizzas towards the end of the reception. It was great since everyone loves munchies after open bar. Thank you, Brix for making our wedding day so memorable! read more

The place looked a little odd given the heavy black curtain covering the entrance but once inside it opened to a bright courtyard covered with a massive skylight so it can be enjoyed year-round. The decor and ambience feel very European and the entrance curtain blocks out all the visual distractions and noise from the street and establishes a quiet, relaxed vibe which is a bit of a haven from all the bustle of the city outside. Our group was seated promptly and the service was excellent throughout the evening. The bartender mixed up some great mojitos to get us started while the servers had some good suggestions for wine pairings for the main course. I ordered the Australian lamb which was served with asparagus and a potato hash. Everything was cooked perfectly, well seasoned, and the lamb was mouthwatering to say the least. Delicious is a bit of an understatement and I will definitely be returning for round 2. I would highly recommend Brix for either a quiet meal or with a larger group, but either way this is definitely a spot to add to your bookmarks and give a try. read more

This place is delicious. I had the fortune to go here for dinner last week and I was decidedly blown away. We sat in the patio/courtyard of the restaurant. I would recommend the patio in any weather as it feels open with ample heating, but a skylight style glass cover high up over the courtyard protects patrons from the elements. The decor of the courtyard consists of pleasant (albiet mostly fake) plants and vines which struck me as vaguely italian in inspiration (without seeming like they were saying "Hey, it's like Tuscany!!! Get it?!"). The menu was very well designed. There was a wonderful variety of choices, but the list was still concise enough as to fit on a two page menu. Another point in favour of the menu is that all the entrees are printed with suggestions of which wine would pair best with it, which is nice to help narrow down the wine list... a bit. Brix has one of the most extensive wine lists I have ever seen. The depth and number of available wines is a startling contrast to the menu. However, to keep it from being too overwhelming, they organize the list by grape so you can quickly find the type of wine you'd like for your meal. The food tasted amazing. I had a mixed herb salad that contained dungeness crab meat and cubed watermelon which was delicious (and really interesting, the herbs had a surprising amount of punch compared to conventional baby greens) and the Quebec Wentzel Duck, which was to die for. It came with a blueberry demiglaze, pancetta potatoes and baby spinach with tomatoes and mushrooms which also tasted amazing. Dessert was also really nice. They had a brand new summer dessert menu that night, which meant that we got to play guinea pig! I got the lemon blueberry pound cake which had lemon mascarpone sauce which tasted really great, though I'll admit that I had a taste of the cheesecake which my sister ordered, which blew my dessert out of the water. I really loved this place. I plan to go again in future, perhaps winter to see how the menu changes. I recommend to this place to anybody and everybody. read more

We got a reservation for my mother's birthday. 9 PM on a Wednesday night, shouldn't be too bad right? We arrived only to wait 30 minutes for a table in the courtyard (the only part of the restaurant that's worth a damn). The bartender must have been too busy with the 10 tables that needed drinks to ask any of us if we'd like anything while we waiting the 30 minutes for our table. Finally we get to our table. The atmosphere in the courtyard is absolutely spectacular and perfect for any romantic or intimate date--that I cannot deny. There are some fairly irksome things about the rest of our experience at Brix however. After being seated, we waited for 20 minutes for one of the 3 waitresses patrolling the 10 tables to get us water and ask us about drinks and food. None of the hostesses were very pleasant either, they all had this bothered look on their faces and rest assured we were very polite to all of the staff the entire time. Despite our table being dangerously slanted (not teetering--slanted) so that a water chalice would begin to slide toward the edge of the table every so often, the food was great. The saving grace for the restaurant of unspirited hosts. I'll probably come back with my wife to see if the service is any better because the food makes it worth it. read more

I made a reservation on OpenTable three weeks ago for my mom and I to come for a friday night dinner. I requested a table in the courtyard, of course. What did I learn? They don't actually take reservations for the courtyard. When did I learn this? When I showed up for our reservation in the courtyard. Sigh. I was kind of annoyed that no one had called us to advise of this rule, however, they made it up to us and got us set up in there in no time. While we waited, my mom ordered a Moulin Rouge cocktail..and it was possibly one of the best drinks I have ever tried. Grapefruit, Strawberry, ginger, rhubarb...amazing. I had a Basil Collins - Hendricks gin, cucumber, basil, soda...It was so delicious, and refreshing. The type of drink you want on a patio on a hot summer's day. We were seated and decided we would oder a variety of appetizers to share instead of doing a full on meal. We had: Brome Lake Duck Pate, with chill toast points, Crab Cake with cucumber cream, and Mussels in white wine herb broth. The Brome Lake Duck Pate was one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten. Served in a small mason jar, and served with cornichons, thin sliced red onion and stone ground dijon mustard. It was the perfect combination of creamy and fatty, cut with the perfect amount of acidic. Mom and I devoured the entire thing, and agreed it was by far our absolute favourite. The crab cake was much different than what I have really had, but we loved it. Very fresh, and topped with mint, cucumber, onion salsa and served on a cucumber cream. It was nice - got the greatest crab cake I've ever had but definitely very nice. The mussels were pretty standard. Small, but delicious. But lets also talk about the bread basket - served with a charred roasted red pepper hummus that has the most delicious level of smoke in it. So good. The ambiance was positively beautiful, the food (what we had anyway) was delicious, and the cocktails had amazing flavour layering. Mom and I closed it down and left at 1:30 a.m. Great service, great food, great venue. We will definitely be back. read more

This is a very solid restaurant, nice wine list which is reasonably priced for the neighborhood, with a wine bottle special (40% off) late Monday nights. Not that that does me a huge amount of good, as I am not usually up for drinking a lot of wine late on Monday nights, but still, good to know. Their fish specials are divine, and their patio is absolutely gorgeous- very European and romantic. read more

What a lovely, romantic place in Yaletown. Try to get a seat in the courtyard if you can. We came here during the Taste of Yaletown for their $35 set menu and I'm so glad that we did. For my first course, I ordered the pork belly, which was great. My friends ended up picking the same dish as well. Strangely enough, it reminded us of HK style BBQ pork. For my main course, I ordered the NY striploin. Lots of flavour and cooked perfectly. However, the dessert was the ultimate star of the evening. I had the vanilla bean panna cotta and it was amazing. Not too sweet or heavy, just right. My friends ordered the sticky toffee pudding which was equally as delicious. The lightness of the vanilla bean gelato complemented the denseness of the toffee pudding very well. If you love wine, Brix has an extensive wine selection. There are also "wine flights" for those who want to explore three different wines. A wine flight is $10 or 12 depending on the flight that you choose. Well done Brix! read more

My wife and stopped by here on our way to another restaurant to check out the menu. The live music was what drew us in originally and the menu looked appetizing, but we passed because we had our sights set on another restaurant. We ended up getting to the other restaurant and changing our mind as we were walking in. We went back to brix and mortar, and we were seated promptly in the out door seating area. We were offered great recommendations for drinks by the waiter and ended up ordering some appetizers. Wow were we blown away; capriccio , lamb bacon salad and mussels. All great selections, perfectly crafted. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and I will be back the next time I'm in Vancouver. read more

The wife and I went to visit Vancouver for the long weekend. We walked past Brix & Mortar and decided to check it out. I ordered a green salad. When it came, it was completely dry and no dressing in sight. I asked the waiter for some dressing. He looked as if I was asking him for something difficult. When he came back, he had a tiny tiny bit of white creamy dressing (meaning I couldn't have missed it if it was on the salad). Because it was such a tiny amount, I had to ask for more. Again, the same aghast response as if no one ever ate salad with dressing. Suffice it to say, I did not enjoy that salad or their service. Thumbs down! read more

Sitting on the beautiful patio is definitely the place to be when you're at Brix. They installed a glass roof that 'umbrellas' over the roof 40' above the dinners so they can use the space year round. A brilliant addition. You feel like you've found an oasis! We were surprised to discover a TV, silently on for the playoff game. I think they were caving to customer pressure as it's usually covered at dinner time. It wasn't obtrusive at all and I appreciated being able to check the score once in a while. The food was much better than the old days when I used to find everything had the same dark, savoury sauce. My favourite dish was the beet salad with pearls of goat cheese and pistachios. The mussels small plate is actually quite filling and is served with frites. They bring out a nice basket of bread and I uncouthly used it to soak up the sauce from the mussels. The dessert special was a chocolate pot de creme with Grand Marnier and other scrumptious ingredients. We had a bottle of Liberty School Chardonnay that paired well with everyone's meals and one guest had a glass of Dr. Pauly Bergweiler Riesling with his scallops which he raved about. Our server took good care of us and I felt bad when he splashed the balsamic vinegar over the table. Being a klutz myself, I could relate. I couldn't bear to mention that some went on my coat and it simply rinsed out anyway. I'll go back to try some of the other items on the menu for sure. I hope I get to sit on the patio again! read more

The courtyard reminds me of small hide-away hole in the wall joints in back alleys of Paris so when entering this place I was amazed that I was still in Yaletown. I have visited this restaurant on numerous occasions but one of my recent meals was quite memorable so here's the review. On a cold winter night sitting under the heat lamps in the court yard promised the return of summer so I started off with Onion soup with potatoes. It had just the right amount of onions with a sweet flavour and smooth texture. For my main I picked the steak with scallops wrapped in Bacon. I have to say although steak was good it didn't have the X factor. As for dessert I went with Panna Cotta that although good did not blow my mind away. During my other visit to Brix I had a glass of wine with their Pot du Chocolate, which transported me back to heaven! read more

Brix feels like it has been around for a while, because it has. It has the confidence and maturity of a place that has been doing well for some time. The decor showcases the beautiful red brick of Yaletown, the warehouse district, made romantic with low lighting and chandeliers. Additionally, Brix has something unique in it's layout, an open-air courtyard that is very romantic. Service is well-honed, and the food is good, and I have a feeling, also very consistent. We shared a lovely salad, mussles with a sour cherry/banana curry sauce, a seafood stew, and a pasta dish - all good. The crowd on Thursday night was a mix of after-work parties and dates, and it was equally appropriate for both. Great, helpful servers and an upscale but relaxed environment. Beautiful outdoor patio, very European. read more

I've been to Brix for special occasions only so I don't know what it's like as an intimate dinner for two. The decor of the patio is really something special - it reminds me of a little nook on the streets of Europe. I was invited to a birthday party in that setting and I found it to be a great venue for small parties since you can eat and then go for a drink since Brix conveniently has stairs that takes you to George Lounge. I been here for a couple of dinner parties and while I can't remember how I felt about the food (though it must be good, or else I wouldn't suggest people have their parties there) I do recall that each time I've been there I found there was a bit of a wait for the food to come. But they seem to very accustomed to large groups as it is obvious that the servers are attentive and on the ball. I do find the menu to be a bit pricey but I suppose this is because of the neighborhood. read more

Great location and ambience (especially if you sit in the courtyard)! Unfortunately, I cannot rave about the food. We ordered the 3 course dinner. Appetizers were OK, but nothing to really rave about. The entrees were disappointing. I ordered the steak medium rare, but it came out medium to medium well. Considering the price, I would have also expected a better quality piece of steak, but it was chewing and tasted not too fresh. The salmon was not well seasoned and raw. The accompanied risotto was too citrusy. Fortunately, the desserts were well done. Coming from the States, I really wanted to try out Canadian cuisine, but Brix did not deliver. It is too expensive for what you get in food quality and taste. read more

(* My official rating would be 4.5 stars *) Great service, great food, great location and wonderful atmosphere. Oh, and the wine was excellent as well. What more can you ask for a few steps from home? I really enjoyed the Mediterranean style courtyard patio, which made me feel very relaxed and far removed from the hustle and bustle of Yaletown outside. Our server was engaging and very knowledgeable and helped us select an excellent bottle of white wine to share. My water glass was always kept filled, as well, which I always appreciate. The food was fantastic. I had a mini nicoise salad to start which I thought was a neat idea as it contained all of the elements of a dinner size nicoise (egg, olives, tomatoes, green beans, micro greens, fingerling potatoes and of course albacore tuna) but in a scaled down portion. Overall a perfect size for an appetizer. I could have used a bit more tuna, although for a starter, it was enough to whet my appetite. My main course of ling cod on sweet pea and baby shrimp risotto was wonderful. The risotto was beautifully done and had a great balance of creaminess combined with the sweetness brought out by the peas and baby shrimp. We shared the panna cotta for dessert which could have used a bit more fresh fruit on top, but the panna cotta itself was delicious. Accompanied by a glass of refreshing prosecco, it was a perfect end to the meal. Overall a great experience and I would definitely recommend this place for a sophisticated meal or date night based on the food, atmosphere and service. read more

When you step into Brix, you feel as if you've step into another era. It has this sophisticated ambiance that exudes 'class'. The breath-taking courtyard is situated at the front, just like many restaurants in Europe - making it seem like maybe you're on vacation. The menu is not as extensive as one may hope, but rest assured, there will be something you like there. Especially good for sharing is the Cheese Platter that comes with an array of cheeses and breads. Another excellent dish is the Four Mushroom Risotto. They have an amazing selection of wines so I'm sure you'll find something to tickle your fancy. All in all, Brix is a cosmopolitan restaurant - like something you would see on an episode of Sex and the City. It's in the perfect neighborhood of Yaletown that fully compliments its style. read more

This is our first time at Brix and it completely blew our minds. We wanted to try this place back in January, but the place is always booked for wedding receptions. We ordered the pickled pineapple and pork belly, and peppered albacore tuna tataki to start; the first few bites already set the expectations for the entrees. We finished both starters and were already pretty satisfied. As for the entrees, I ordered the wild local salmon and my boyfriend ordered the AAA beef tenderloin. Both of these dishes were amazing in flavor and texture. We were both disappointed we couldn't finish our mains since we were stuffed from all the food. When we were done dinner, our waiter Chris came and surprised us with 2 glasses of complimentary champagne to celebrate our datenight. Exceptional service and food; we will definitely be back every time we are in Vancouver. read more

The patio at Brix - do whatever you can to get a reservation on that patio - it's worth it. There are sky lights over head, and lovely heaters, so it's not much different from eating inside, and is quite comfy even on a dark winter night. A large group of us joined for dinner - the vegetable risotto looked heavenly, and I can safely say that they know how to do a proper steak. But the desserts? to die for. I think I may have to come back...just for the desserts. read more

A friend and I had dinner here for the first time last week while Brix was participating in Taste of Yaletown. My friend and I both ordered different dishes, and while we found the appetizers and desserts to be great, the mains were definitely lacking. I ordered the autumn squash puree for an appetizer, which had just the right amount of richness and she ordered the lamb bacon salad. For the main, I ordered the heirloom tomato tagliatelle, which really didn't impress. I felt it was seriously lacking flavor. And, my friend wasn't impressed with the duck dish either. We both thought maybe we should have tried the Ling Cod. For dessert we had the Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta which was light and not too sweet, just the way I like it. While the food was only so-so, the decor is really warm and inviting. I'm interested to check out the courtyard on a Monday. The server told us there is 30% off of bottles of wine and live music every Monday night (and they have a pretty lengthy wine list). I might be back for appies and drinks in the courtyard. But, I don't think I'll be back for dinner. read more
