The space is beautifully designed and so aesthetic. The parking lot is small though so I recommend coming early to snag a spot. The Pilates Reformer class only has about 7 reformers which makes for a really intimate setting. Maria was easy to follow and walked us through everything you can do with the machine, including equipment I had never seen before. While it was a great introduction to the reformer, the intensity was a bit lacking. We all walked out feeling like the class was too easy. My suggestion would be to let students know they can increase resistance with the different color springs or offer modifications for different levels so everyone gets a more personalized challenge.

One of my biggest problems has been understanding what my baseline caloric needs are to know how to adjust my eating. Joey is helping me approach pain issues from a nutritional standpoint and also helping me get back into athletic shape; however, you can see in his office that he works with a lot of people with health issues like diabetes and obesity. What stood out to me the most about CrossFit Renew is that the staff is friendlier and more welcoming and the community is more close-knit than any other CrossFit box I have been a part of. On top of that, it is very modestly priced and every Saturday there is open gym and a community WOD, which don't even count toward your number of workouts per week, so basically a free bonus! The classes use the time very well. There is always a warm up and a clear run through of the movements for the day. They are careful to make sure everyone knows what they are doing and using proper form. They are very helpful in teaching/coaching you with various lifts and movements. Most WODs include a lift or skill portion on top of a conditioning portion so you are getting a balanced workout of both strength work and conditioning. They are good about catering to the level of fitness you are at and will include difficult weights and movements at the Rx'd version of the workout that have clear scale-downs so everyone is able to workout out at a level that is challenging for them yet safe. At the end of most classes they will also have a short cool down with some stretching. There's always a lot happening at Renew! Friday evening workouts are my favorite because we'll usually have drinks and hangout after. There's always different events going on from holiday parties, to nutrition seminars, and other celebrations. Doing the Open at Renew was a ton of fun as well! A lot of friendly competition, cheering each other on, food, drinks, and good times. Also their newsletters are hilarious. All in all, I love this gym and would strongly recommend it to anyone! It has definitely been a highlight of my first year in Austin and always look forward to the workouts! I honestly don't know if my words even fully do it justice. You just have to come check it out!

I have to say I was very impressed....and a wee bit sore the next day (which does NOT happen with my regular pilates class). She is a very patient, knowledgeable and encouraging teacher. She strives to help you get good results, encourages you to push yourself (without hurting yourself) while offering insight to why we're doing the various exercises. I felt like I got amazing hands on experience and learned a number of new exercises--and I've been taking pilates for a few years. My only disappointment is that she's based in Austin and I'm not. I will be visiting Pilates by Katie though when In town again for sure!
