We were greeted and seated very quickly. Great service, delicious biscuits, fresh seafood and a beautiful restaurant.

Best deal ever! Spent $400 at Christmas and received $160 back in food credits. Then use them $40 off $50 or more) at happy hour! The lobster roll for $11 is so so good!

Restaurant week 2026: miso glazed Chilean sea bass
Felicia W.

This is one of our favorite restaurants as we really enjoy good seafood. Bristol is always crowded so you know it's good. The service is also very friendly and prompt. The environment can get quite loud and hard to hear at your table, but the rooms are charming nonetheless. Restaurant week is always something we look forward to and this year was no different.

1st time in and it's restaurant week. Since it's a seafood place had to go with dishes reflected that. First course was a cup of gumbo which very good. Good size shrimp. Also had the goat cheese bruschetta that was incredible. Main course was shrimp bucatini. It had a butter lemon caper sauce that was addictive. And for dessert was chocolate velvet cake. Took one delicious bite and took the rest home. Service wasn't great and he forgot the goat cheese app which after we asked, came out right before the entrees. Overall very good place.

Service he was super fast and the waitress was very kind. There was also a man coming around with this sweet bread tool and I filled up on those. 10/10 for me. Food was quick and delicious and we went for happy hour so it was very affordable! Overall, great vibe and I'll definitely be back!

"Complimentary" birthday entree that our server claimed wasn't an "entree," so didn't count for the certificate.
Susan M.

I wanted to use my birthday certificate from The Bristol for lunch, but it turned into a very unpleasant ordeal. I told our server in advance that I had the certificate, and she said to show her when paying. At pay time, she took the certificate, but charged us $32 for each ($64 total) of our $24 entrées. We questioned the price and requested she look again at the menu. First she said the overcharge was because we hadn't ordered entrées, but what else is a meal of salmon and 2 sides? Even the salads were labeled as entrées! She went to consult someone, and returned to say she had to charge us $32 (the DINNER menu price) because the complimentary entrée had to be OVER $25 to use the certificate at all, so we wouldn't have gotten any discount and she'd done us a favor by figuring it the way she did. We showed her the certificate that clearly states you get "a complimentary entree, UP TO $25, with purchase of a second entrée." She said that meant a "complimentary entree OVER $25." So I asked her to please read that part again. She still insisted we were wrong, and that wasn't what it "meant." She left, perhaps to consult someone, came back, and again told us we were wrong. At that point, we asked to see a manager. So she left again, we thought to get a manager, and was gone for quite some time. But she returned without a manager, and said she'd "fix it" "just this one time." Said she'd tried to adjust the charge, but something went wrong and she was afraid the credit card would get rejected if she tried again, so handed us another receipt saying we now OWED another $12, and that the original bill adjustment would show up on my friend's credit card. By then our heads had exploded from her arguments, the confusion, and a lot of time getting nowhere, and with no manager coming, we just wanted out. So I put the out-of-nowhere additional $12 on my card. Later, my friend discovered her card had been charged over $170 for the approximately $60 total bill for her food. She called and got back most of what was owed. I got stuck with the additional bogus $12 charge on a "complimentary birthday dinner," after everything had already been paid the first time around, as it all had to be paid on one card to use the birthday certificate. In the end, the service was the worst I've ever experienced, and a distressing ending to a "Happy Birthday." The biscuits were, as usual, delicious. The salmon and one side were good. The broccolini was seriously overcooked-to-burned. And the desserts were delicious.

Bristol is always a great place for good steak and seafood. All of the food tasted great (except one of the shrimp was a little sus, but they replaced it with a crab cake right away). Keith, behind the bar, was super nice and friendly.

Celebrated a friend's birthday last Monday. The food, service (Madalyn) & the beautiful surroundings were PERFECT! We both had the Maple Bourbon Salmon. I always have great salmon at the Bristol, but this salmon was Off-the-Chart FANTASTIC--fully cooked, yet moist, tender & totally yummy! Normally I carryout part of my entree, not that day. I couldn't stop until the salmon was gone. Madalyn, our server, was outstanding! Friendly, Attentive, Helpful. Again, we always get good service there, but Madalyn's personality made our meal & the entire experience the BEST you can ever hope for. She made my friend's birthday extra special, but I expect she provides over-the-top service to everyone she serves. My thanks to your entire staff. I know it takes a team to present such a fine dining experience.

The Moderno salad -- with cherries, cured beef, pine nuts, and goat cheese -- was flavorful, though the espresso vinaigrette unfortunately tasted more like straight vinegar than espresso. I had the short rib bolognese and it was absolutely delicious. Others at the table ordered the Funghi pasta with creamy white sauce, which was good but could have used a bit more mushroom flavor. The Toscana chicken breast (bone-in) with sun-dried tomato sauce had that perfect "marry me" flavor -- rich and satisfying. For dessert, we had the Plate chocolate cake with raspberry and pistachios. It was a huge slice, with a rich chocolate flavor. So why not five stars? Despite having reservations, we were seated right by the kitchen where servers pick up food. Made more annoying because the restaurant had a lot of empty booths and tables in the main dining room. The upside was that the pizza ovens kept us warm, but it wasn't the most relaxing spot. There were also a couple billing issues: the tip was calculated on the post-tax total rather than pre-tax. Also our prix fixe dinners included dessert and we opted to upgrade to a different dessert from the menu. Oddly the up-charge was $6, even though the menu price difference was only $3. That said, Plate offers delicious, well-priced food (though the drinks are on the expensive side), and it's still a great choice for Italian food in Kansas City

My fiancé was craving a steak, so when I saw J.Alexander's had a Trout Almondine on the menu, we had to go. Our drinks took a while to come out, but it was a weekend dinner and the place was pretty packed. Our server was kind and apologetic. The drinks were a little strong so for the second round we switched to beers. My fiancé ordered the Prime Rib. It doesn't list it on the menu but it comes in a variety of sizes, all the way up to 32oz! He ordered the 20 and was very happy with how it came out. I was so happy with every part of my entree. The trout, broccoli, and couscous were all perfect. The portion sizes were huge, so we probably didn't need the Caesar salads to start. Unfortunately, the experience took a turn after I left. I accidentally left my Ray-Ban sunglasses on the table. I understand that was my mistake--accidents happen--but I've since called back twice to check if they were turned in and was told they were not. That's honestly pretty disheartening. It's frustrating to think that instead of being turned into lost and found, someone may have taken them. While I enjoyed my time there, this definitely left a bad impression. Just a heads up to others--be mindful of your belongings, as it seems like lost items may not always make their way back.

Decent option for dinner…read more I stopped by earlier this week on my first night in town, and sat at the end of the bar. The bartender served me a Guinness (on tap, of course!) and then recommended the Monday Steak Night special ($60) - a prix fixe option which included a salad plus one of four types of steak, sides, and dessert. I opted for the house salad (with sherry vinaigrette dressing), the hangar steak (he was selling it hard!), sautéed green beans, and lemon meringue pie. The house salad was superb, with delicious chunks of goat cheese! I also enjoyed the sautéed green beans, loaded with sliced almonds and fresh garlic. The hangar steak was probably the most disappointing, and solely responsible for this review not earning 5 stars. I took half of it to go along with half of the green beans. The lemon meringue pie looked delicious but I could not eat another bite, so that also went into a to-go container. Back in my hotel room that night, working late as I was jet lagged, I ate that pie. OMG! PURE HEAVEN!! And the main reason this review earned 4 stars! Will be back for the salad and green beans and pie! And some Guinness on tap, of course!!

Overpriced chicken, a stellar mushroom side, and an aggressive exit strategy…read more After some custom cocktails nearby, our famished group headed to Rye for some dinner and dessert. The space was nice and clean, but unfortunately, the service and the "famous" main course didn't quite deliver a stellar performance. Our table was split--some wanted dinner, some wanted dessert. This apparently threw our waiter into a state of deep existential confusion. The Food: I ordered their "famous" fried chicken, customizing it to three thighs (which came with homemade pickles and a fantastic ham gravy). For $24, it wasn't bad, but it's definitely not "famous" for flavor--maybe just famous for the price tag. Honestly, I could have filled up at Popeyes for a fraction of the cost. Surprisingly, the absolute star of my meal was the side of sautéed mushrooms. It came with little pearl onions, shallots, and green peas. I topped it with some of my friend's arugula to make it fancy, and it was delicious. The Service (or lack thereof): Here's where it went downhill. The dessert order became a saga. Those who ordered sweets expected them to arrive with the mains, but we had to ask several times just to get them toward the end of the meal. By the end, our waiter seemed completely frustrated with our existence. He aggressively boxed up the remaining desserts and semi-forcefully shoved the credit card machine into our faces to shuffle us out the door. Great mushrooms, aggressive math at the end. Proceed with caution.

The ambiance was nice with most tables full and dim lighting that wasn't too dark. There was a decent selection of happy hour food priced at $10, $15, and $20. Select cocktails were $5 off, and wines were $8 off. To start, we ordered the House Fries, Sriracha Shrimp Lettuce Cups, and Haymaker Chicken Sandwich. The shrimp lettuce cups were our favorite out of the three. The chicken sandwich was good too, but the parmesan fries that came with it were even better. If we had realized just how many fries came with the sandwich, we wouldn't have ordered the house fries because it was a LOT of fries (not a bad thing). I think I would get the shrimp cups again and want to try some other dishes next time. For dessert, a friend recommended we get the Peanut Butter Pie. If you love peanut butter, you will love this! Also, notable mention is the service. Food came out within 15 minutes, and everything was nice and hot. I can't remember the name of our waitress, but she was phenomenal. My husband and I agreed it was some of the best service we've received in a long time. She went above and beyond. She took our order right away, checked up on us just the right amount of times, and refilled my husband's soda as soon as it was empty without us asking. It's the little things. She was also just really amicable and pleasant to have as our waitress. Overall, the food, service, and vibes were great for happy hour.
