I LOVE Brightwok! I have been to this location many times, usually on weekdays after work to order carry out for dinner. The food is great, and the staff are always very helpful explaining menu items. There are many different sauces to choose from, and the staff haven't steered me wrong yet in describing what the sauces taste like and what protein they pair best with. My go to is a build your own bowl with brown rice, chicken, broccoli, carrots, onions, and edamame with Thai cashew curry sauce. The crispy egg is the best fancy item in my opinion. The sweet potato fritter and caramelized pineapple are okay but not worth the extra $$. read more

This is one of my favorite fast casual places in a Chicago. Most recently, I got the sesame ginger salad bowl with tofu instead of chicken. The sauce is amazing - perfectly sweet and flavorful without being overpowering or too heavy. I loved how the tofu was cooked - it felt meaty and flavorful without being too greasy. They were also super generous with the vegetables so it was a very full salad! Overall, it was a filling and very flavorful meal while still feeling healthy and not too heavy, which I love. I saw a brochure that said "voted the best stir fry in Chicago." I decided to give it a try but apparently the owner and his buddies had a meeting and didn't invite anyone else to vote. I was not impressed with the promised flavors. The 2nd star goes out to the team who were all very friendly and welcoming when I walked in. I looked at some reviews and pictures to see that some people did have a great experience all the way around but unfortunately for me, I did not get that same delicious bowl as others did. Why can't they have a Brightwok Kitchen where I live??? On the recommendation of a friend, I had dinner here while in Chicago for a work conference. I was soooo happy with my meal, the Crunchy Crave. This dish is aptly named-- I have been craving it every day since I had it! The ingredients were fresh, healthy, and yummy. I also had the house-made pickles (I love anything pickles) and they were to die for! Love the sustainable utensils, bowls, and drinkware. The place is super cute inside, as well, though seating is limited. The prices are super reasonable for a restaurant that serves fresh, customizable meals that cater to many dietary restrictions. Brightwok is one of my regular spots for lunch for a reason. The food here is really something special, because it balances two things that are very important to me: healthiness and exciting flavors! (And I like to feel good about myself by supporting a local business, rather than another big chain place like Ch*potle.) The name of the game is stir-fry. You can get yours over brown or white rice, salad, or rice noodles. I usually go with noodles but occasionally like to mix it up with rice. You can create your own bowl, which is what I prefer, or go with one of their suggested combinations. They have a decent variety of proteins (chicken, steak, tofu, etc.) and of course tons of vegetables. The real star, in my view, is the homemade sauces. I've tried a bunch of them, and no matter which one you go with, you really can't go wrong. Some of them are spicy, others are sweet, and you can even make a combo (teriyaki + tahini ginger, thai basil + cashew curry, whatever strikes your fancy)! Last but not least, when I really want to treat myself, I get one of their crispy sunny-side up eggs on top. When that creamy yolk gets mixed in with everything in your bowl... heaven. P.S. Just FYI, it's cashless, which is great for moving the line quickly but potentially inconvenient if you're caught off-guard. read more

It was quite tasty, they did not mess up the tofu as places tend to do. They didn't shy away from the spice in the bowl too which was a surprise. A bit expensive for casual but to be expected in river north, and acceptable when it's food they're actually woking right in front of you. More like 4.5/5 when compared to its peers. Very convenient place, across to my building and I tried their food yesterday and here it is my honest opinion. The food is good because it is fresh and they make in front of you.
