I was disappointed in this showroom. There were at least 3 workers in the front when my husband and I walked in, not a single person acknowledged us or asked if we needed help. There was one other customer, they had construction documents so I assume they had an appointment. I have a large project I needed lighting for and I would have loved guidance, or even a business card to make a future appointment. I have a new design business and I will have many future projects that would have brought them more business, but it looks like I am going to bring my business somewhere where they are polite. If you are looking for any customer service, I recommend finding a different showroom. read more

The absolute worst customer service! There is only 1 person I found in the past who works there, and she knows about the products! What she doesn't know she makes it a point to learn WITH YOU! She knows what customer service is! She makes you feel like you matter! You can leave the showroom knowing your questions will be answered. Unfortunately for me, she was not available to help me. The person who was supposed to be helping me seemed disinterested in his job, lazy and lacked any customer service! Instead, I was asked for my telephone number, then told "I'll call you"! What??????? I'm in the showroom now! Don't waste my time! Not 1 time did I feel he was going to help or call me back. It wasn't until I asked someone else for help that he returned to ask if I "had more questions?" I wanted to tell them both that he didn't answer any of my original questions but I refrained from doing so. I asked him AGAIN for information on the outdoor sconces. He took down the information AGAIN, returned to his desk again, and this time printed out some printed documentation. He gave me little to go by. I understand people may be new at their job and learning but it's always best to ask for assistance than to have a pissed off customer! That's the service I received and there was only 1 other customer in the showroom! It was NOT crowded! I have come to realization that I can do a better job finding lighting fixtures from my home computer, pay less and have less stress than going into the Brighter Homes Showroom. I was recently there 2 times in the same week for different needs. Both times I left the showroom feeling like my business wasn't needed. After my 2nd visit, yesterday, I realized I would rather live by candlelight than to return to this store. I felt like a dentist having to PULL information! This is their job! This is what they are "trained" to do! The young guy that was supposed to help me seemed more interested in sitting behind his computer to do who knows what instead of helping me while I was in the showroom! I do not like my time wasted! No one should. I have resided to the fact that I have to drive to Portland for professional service and more options. I don't like to give a bad review. In fact, I do my best to avoid them but in this case, this review is well deserved! I am all about helping local economy, shop at farmers markets, etc. but after this experience, I'm done with this business. Good luck! read more

I have been having a disastrous experience with this company. I went into their showroom to have the switches changed in four lamp, not because they were defective but because my old, arthritic fingers could not twist the nob and I was having to use pliers. There was nothing wrong with the lamps only with my fingers. They quoted me a price that was exorbitant even for 4 lamps which I paid. I was quoted a month as he was very busy. this week when he called me he informed me that I owed an additional 30 dollars for parts. I was very upset after he told me that the $29 for each lamp was to evaluate what the problem was and parts were not included. I remind him that there was nothing wrong with the lamps just my fingers! I went to the showroom and picked up my lamps, after paying the extra $30 for parts. The pull chains worked well. When I got home I tried to work the first lamp and, you guessed it. It doesn't work. I thought it might be the bulb, but two bulbs that worked in the another lamp did not work. I called the store and talked with Liam the manager. His response was that they always check that the lamps work. Obviously my time is not as valuable as the tech's time. read more

This is one of those places that look at and say, oh gee it's not a big box stores. But you say all right it isn't a big box stores. My husband and needed to replace our fan in our bedroom as we couldn't find the glass fixtures. We were checking on the glass fixtures and here and have very nice staff who work there checked and said there were no replacements. As we were still in the store we found a gorgeous fan. The very kind lady who helped us said they were having a sale later this month. We came back purchased the fan and was treated so well by their staff. read more

I live in Depoe Bay, where there are glass artists galore. I bought a beautiful glass shade for a pendant lamp I wanted to use in my kitchen. With all these glass studios around, you'd think there would be places to buy the lamp "guts"--either the whole fixture, or the pieces required to assemble such a fixture. Nope... tried hardware stores, asked a local electrical inspector. No one could help. So next time I'm in Eugene, I try Lowe's. And Home Depot....no luck there either. Luckily, a Home Depot employee suggested this shop. Elias was so patient and persistent, and by the time he came up with a solution for my weirdly sized glass shade, he'd conferred with several other workers, all of whom were doing their best to help with this issue. I was really impressed with the knowledge and commitment, as well as appreciative of their willingness to find a work around. Thanks! read more

Once I found what I was looking for they wouldn't sell it to me because they didn't have any more in stock but I could order it. Brighter Homes recently went above and beyond to solve my lighting issue, so I'm here to give them the praise they deserve. If you don't have time to read the full review, here are the highlights: Pros: * Great selection of electrical fixtures, bulbs, and parts * REALLY helpful and knowledgeable staff * Beautiful range of lighting fixtures and lamps, from everyday $8 ceiling fixtures to cut-crystal chandeliers worth hundreds of dollars * Great prices Cons: * Only open until 5pm some days Recently, I needed to replace a light fixture in my kitchen. The kitchen and dining area are one big room, and in the dining area, we have an older brass and crystal chandelier. Although a bit dated, it's a nice midcentury piece and I had no plans to replace it, nor did I want to have the trouble and expense of getting rid of a perfectly functional piece. (Besides, it's just the sort of late 60's kitsch that's a little fun, even if it reminds one of something your dear old Aunt Maude would have.) That meant that I needed to find a kitchen lighting option that wouldn't clash horribly with the chandelier in the dining room. Apparently, brass fixtures are very out of style at the moment, so we weren't having any luck finding something. Finally, I found a super-cheap fixture at Home Depot that oddly enough matched so perfectly it was almost as if it had been designed with my chandelier in mind. Although I was a bit nervous about using super-cheap stuff where electricity is concerned, I bought it anyway. BAD IDEA. It shorted out within a month. Thinking that perhaps we just got a dud, we returned it and got another identical unit. My husband installed it, turned the lights on, and with an audible "SNAP!", it shorted again, this time so badly that it melted the base of one of the light bulbs. My husband, being a rational and sensible individual, informed me that he would not be installing a third fixture, as they were "a G--d-mn piece of sh%#." (Since he had just had it literally almost blow up in his hands, I believe we can all forgive him for his lapse in language.) (He also used a multimeter to check the wiring, so we know for a fact that these were defective lighting fixtures, and not issues with our wiring.) I then visited two more lighting stores with no luck in finding anything, and finally went to Brighter Homes. Within moments, I was approached by a friendly salesman to whom I explained my mission. He sadly informed me that it would be really tough to find a good match, as a lot of brass fixtures have simply been discontinued. (It's good to note here that Brighter Homes did, in fact, have plenty of truly lovely fixtures that would have matched--in the $250 to $400 range. If you want an absolutely exquisite cut-crystal and brass light fixture, they've got you covered. But for mere mortals like me looking for something in the $100 range, most manufacturers are following trends and making chrome or bronze stuff.) Sensing my dismay, he suggested that we might be able to replace the "guts" of the cheap fixture with higher-quality components, preserving its appearance but getting rid of the alarming tendency to short out and melt light bulbs. The next day, I brought in a new (the third!) cheap Home Depot fixture, and the same salesman was kind enough to completely disassemble it, ensure that the newer, safer sockets would fit, and showed me how to re-assemble it so that when I got it home we'd be able to safely install it ourselves. The cost for the time, labor, and parts? A mere $15. He probably spent at least half an hour helping me. I was almost embarrassed that I was charged so little! While he was doing all this, we also had a lovely chat about LED light bulbs, and he was helpful and informative about that, too. We have been a fan of LED bulbs in my home for years, and we try to keep up on new stuff on the market since LED technology is changing so rapidly. He was able to give me some solid advice on the bulbs he recommended, and I can say that I have never seen such a wide selection of LED bulbs anywhere. I've ordered them online in the past, and this was clearly a mistake--next time I'll be going to Brighter Homes and just getting what I need without the hassle and wait of shipment. The new fixture installed just as he said it would, and works like a charm. In short, I highly recommend Brighter Homes and won't hesitate to return there in the future. read more

For over 14 years I have happily given these folks my business and have always enjoyed their beautifully rendered light displays and their warm staff. Lately however the place is transgressing into something that I am not familiar with. A couple of the ladies were a little too coarse and impatient for my taste, and when I brought a few things to the counter for purchase one of them said in an exasperated tone "what are the part numbers". I thought to myself "I have no idea, and why should I?" Come to find out they are installing a new computer system and want customers to write down all of the part numbers. Another offense involved a purchase of at least 20 different bulbs, candle covers, etc, and at the end of the transaction and after my credit card was charged one of the ladies said "I wont charge you 5 cents for the bag but in order for me to waive this you will need to bag your own merchandise." Huh? I don't recall ever seeing that in the Eugene plastic bag ban ordinance, nor should it matter as many local businesses are absorbing the fee themselves and bagging their customer's merchandise- for FREE. So after this chilly statement I had to bag all of my recently purchased products which felt strange in itself given the volume and quantity of merchandise that I bought. I profess to be well versed in the art of local shopping and I have never had a merchant say this to me, nor require that I bag my own merchandise, so I would like to point a shaking "tsk-tsk" finger to the manager that composed that silly instruction to staff. However many of the veteran staff are pleasant, the store is looking good these days, and they have an awe-inspiring selection of parts and bulbs that you cannot find anywhere else. read more

When we asked for help they acted like they were having to go out of their way. Very Rude!! You don't get my business, you have to earn it!! One star is too generous. read more
