This is one of the many names it's changed to over the years. The customer service is horrible, anytime I actually get a human over the phone I'm met with a horrible attitude. Or, better yet, I get the runaround as if I don't exist as a customer there. There's no transparency in any changes and customers are treated as if we're the issue. I';ve been an RTN member for over 40 years: The post-merger service is just about non-existent . 1. Multiple tries to login, requires text.authentication, always a different error message. 2. RTN tried to keep current, witness tap-to-pay , etc. The tap feature is NOT AVAILABLE with MVCU, phone rep was snippy and dismissive when I asked why ?!?! It seems that this would reduce fraud caused by skimmers, etc. I absolutely love my RTN reps, but seriously considering bailing out for a better banking experience . read more

They merged with RTN who were wonderful. They have been sending us "their " mortgage bill to us and in the past year the mortgage increased. We realized that our interest rate was listed on the Merrimack bill at 4.375!! That is NOT our interest rate. We originally closed on our home in 2013 at 3.75 fixed. Refinanced in 2019 at an even lower rate. Yet our closing documents from 2019 may have been lost in a flood We had. Merrimack had poor customer service, gentleman argued with my husband about us questioning our "new" Merrimack valley interest rate. They took over RTN yet have NO documents from 5 years ago? No paste mortgage statement available from 2020 with RTN interest rate?? This would show the proof of our interest rate. I am almost certain it was low 3s for interest after the refi. So basically he asked if we had a tax attorney , and now we are scrambling to find the 2019 closing documents with the lower interest rate. There is NO RTN and Merrimack doesn't have them????? That's what they said!!!! So basically they are sending us a mortgage at some bullshit made up interest rate of 4.375!!! It was never that high even at our original closing. We have those original closing papers. It's crap and illegal to just make an interest rate for a home mortgage after taking over a company and NOT have any proof of the papers signed in 2019 of the actual interest rate!! And don't post some bullshit to contact a 1- 800 number. There is hardly customer service and the gentleman was rude. This will not be the end of this. We will contact attorney Generals office and file BBB. read more

I had a car loan with MCVU for the past few years. I paid off the entirety of my loan in January, but for some reason they claimed I had a late payment and submitted a late payment notice to my credit report, which significantly dropped my credit score. When I checked with the bank they said it was a mistake and I didn't owe anything else, but I still took a hit on my credit score for no reason. The fees are huge, and they are based in a low income area, Lawrence. I thought credit unions were supposed to be non profit. I never had a problem with RTN and will be looking to move my money. Large fees for any overdraft...it was free with RTN. The merger was a mess. Past merger between MAFCU and RTN was seamless, we didn't have to do a thing. I couldn't pay my credit card online bill the day it was due, as I always had, they didn't put their own routing number online. I had to make many phone calls to resolve this. Credit card company told me the credit union had to take the payment, and vice versa. It was a mess. Fees seem predatory. Even the rep on the phone said a $14 fee for every overdraft, when you have overdraft protection, was excessive. read more

I had banked for 30 years here, car loans, primary mortgage, HELOC, when they were RTN Credit Union. Now they merged, changed the routing #, and I try to log in and they won't honor my old login. When I tell tem I forgot my password(which I didn't but I wanted the password reset to see if i could log in) I provided my email, SSN, zip code, and they respond with we can't find that information on file. I will be filing complaint with MA Atty General's Office. read more

I'm so disappointed with the acquisition from RTN to Merrimack. The Merrimack website is horrible. Once you sign in any announcements or pop up notices repeat if you navigate to another area. And the sign process locks you out and forces you to change your password or wait a while to try again. I'm at a point that I'll go with another CU and changes all my automated processing. read more

This bank is doing some shady stuff when it comes to overdraft. My account was not overdraft and when i put money into my account they charge me a overdraft fee of $28 . this is the second time this Bank did this to me. WORST BANK!!! The fees are 30 dollars for overdraft. Even if you don't overdraft your account they will still charge you the fee. I have complained about them charging the fees when I didn't overdraft the account. Plus my debit card got hacked twice and if you go to the bank to get a new card and they told me it a 10 dollar fee but they will send you a card for free. They love to take your hard earned money for their profits. They say they're member owned but it's not true because if it was really true members wouldn't want all these fees attached to their accounts. read more

I have no idea why there are so many negative reviews here. I just opened a new account and Wanda helped me through the whole process and was extremely polite and professional. The teller was friendly as well when I made my initial deposit. The checking account does not have a monthly fee and gives you 3 percent back in rewards for the first $300 you spend every month. I been banking with mvcu for over 30 years when you needed to be sponsored by a family member who worked for lucent (bell). My grandmother who is 94 was my family member who we still do banking here. I am very disappointed being turned down for auto loans all the time when I get them through capital one and autouse (bill deluca's bank) between my wife and myself we make very good money and have good savings. I applied for 15000 with 8500 down to be denied. Credit union is supposed to work with their members different then traditional banks. read more

I been with MVCU for quite some time now and it's a great credit union and there very helpful, i do not like the fact after being there so long they offer me Xmas loans and helpful ideas that I'd love to take advantage of to help me & my husband with our sons...but then I get denied. So that frustrates me. Other than that there pretty much straight forward honest and legit! I'll remain a consistent member because NOBODY is perfect & even if iv experienced an upsetting situation or even disagree with an occurrence I've had at one tjme or another, the Manager & staff at the branch i use. I want a contactless credit card and after spending 68mins one the phone being transferred from member services to credit card services back to member services, each time having repeat the same information is extremely frustrating. As someone with experience in banks and credit unions, I can't recommend strongly enough that the public avoid this place. Firstly, Auto Advisors are a deceptive front. I attended an online session and later sought to purchase a car, but the sales rep seemed quite disinterested in a deal that was outside their desired volume and limited number of dealer contacts. To be clear: Auto Advisors isn't a service offered with members' needs in mind, it's an inside game that steers members toward larger loans that the credit union seeks. Some time later, I pursued a car purchase on my own with a pre-approved loan. I was faced with branch staff so confusing and insistent that in disgust I canceled the transaction. To be clear: I needed a short, clear description of what was needed to proceed with the loan and got exactly zero of that, even after pausing to patiently explain the information I sought. Most recently, when planning travel overseas, I went to my home branch to provide the travel dates and get any additional information. After being directed only to log the travel dates online, on reaching my destination I discovered that I could not access online banking for a reason that should have been clearly discussed during the encounter, an unacceptable oversight creating a substantial inconvenience. Subsequent online chat revealed other employees unwilling to solve the problem. This is appalling customer service punctuated by weak corporate boilerplate. When seeking to address this with more senior management, employees refused repeated requests for the email addresses of specific masthead officers responsible for oversight. If you seek slipshod, disorganized, and incompetent service led by management apparently more concerned with evasion than serving members, Merrimack Valley Credit Union is for you. read more

My husband and I went this weekend to the N Andover location and He was told by that rude branch manger to take off his mask covering. As the others weren't asked and I wasn't either. We showed our ID'S as we made our transactions. As the Teller was coughing and hacking in front of us and apologized fro her dry throat. This is not the first time I have had not so great CS with that Branch manager, I saw that she was moved to another Brand awhile ago but now she's back. If you have a mortgage with MVCU make sure the home Insurance is escrowed. If it is not escrowed and there is any mis-communication between MVCU and your insurer you will be charged an extremely high amount of money for insurance coverage. I made this mistake and got charged $1900 for two weeks of coverage I didn't need from MVCU. Because of this I'm leaving to another mortgage company that escrows insurance. read more

This is like the DMV of banks/credit unions. The staff are not very high quality and there is zero customer service. Nobody knows where to send you if you call the customer service line and you have to chase down everyone. It's frustrating and it has happened numerous times over the years. They don't ever act like they care about your business. I have a business account, two personal accounts and a mortgage with them but if you think that would make them responsive, think again! I've banked here for years. I have a primary checking account elsewhere and use this account as a savings. OK I admit, I hide money from myself! Because of that, I chose not to have a checking account or an ATM card. The hours are convenient for me to drop in when I do need to withdraw money. My mom has checking with them and an ATM card. There's never a problem finding an ATM because they are on the SUM network and at least around here there are enough banks that use the SUm that it is never an issue. If you do have checking with them you can get free checks. They offer online banking although I am an old fashioned girl and don't use it. They give you interest (measly as it is) on your accounts. The minimums account balances are under $25. They offer Visa credit cards if you choose to do all your banking with one place. They also offer safe deposit boxes at reasonable rates. I did end up refinancing my mortgage through them after my previous mortgage was sold multiple times. They handle the mortgages they hold themselves, which is a plus. What drove me batty was calling to discuss my mortgage and ending up talking to either someone in Indiana or even worse in the Philippines. Now I can talk to someone who is local. I also had an auto loan with them years ago and I got a great rate. read more

I was recommended here for consolidating my student loans from a reputable financial adviser in the area. When I went in for my appointment, the woman was unsure of what she was doing and kept instructing em to fill in the info and we'd figure it out at the end. I was so uncomfortable that I said I would finish the application at home. In the meantime, I was researching other places to consolidate my loans. I received 3 phone calls, 1 mailing and 3 e-mails per week from Merrimack Valley Credit Union instructing me to finish my application. What kind of service is this harassing potential clients? Finally, I answered my phone and respectfully asked the woman to please stop trying to reach me that I was no longer interested as I had found a better service and one that had much less invasive marketing techniques. The woman was incredibly rude and hung up on me. For student loan consolidation, take your business elsewhere. Citizens Bank has a great program with friendly and helpful customer service. read more

I've been a member for a few years, I've had a couple loans and paid them off early! And the services was great! I was approved for a auto loan at 2.2 percent interest! I found a vehicle and was told to come in to close on it! 6 hours before the closing I got a call saying I would have to get a personal loan! I was shocked!! The women that took my loan was not like the others I worked with in the past! She did not do her job at all and at the end the dealer that was nice enough to fix up the car I was buying was disappoint! I can't believe the credict union would even consider her working there! There are many lending companys will to help peaple out and deliver on what they say! This womens word met nothing, and I will be leaving the credict union after this! I am a little frustrated with this branch as I am in once a week minimum. I was singled out for wearing a tipped baseball hat when a man and woman before me both had hats. The man had his hat on down to his eyebrows and the lady had a winter hat. The teller said nothing to them but told me to remove my hat as it is policy. But they don't have 24/7 customer service so I would have to wait to call an actual branch when it opened so that I could use my card again. I found it very inconvenient to bank with these people. They try to get credit for offing a debit card. I know -- this seems like something you would assume they would do. They are not, however prepared to support usage of the debit card for purchases. I have had it cut off 'for my protection' when trying to respond to a medical crisis, when buying a book, gas, Amazon purchase, etc. Each time you have to call and convince them to let you use it. Half the time they won't remove the block anyhow, saying 'you should use paypal for that'. They are not full service. read more

I have been a member of this credit union for almost a decade. In the past 6 or so months I have seen this company deteriorating. There have been multiple times where my debit card has been frozen for reasons that had nothing to do with my account itself. I have gone to stores and was embarassed when my card was declined and yet I had plenty of funds for the purchase. It took over a week on two occasions to figure out what was wrong with my account. They try to be helpful by freezing the account if there is suspicious acitivty yet don't contact me to let me know that happened. Then I am unable to use my card and have no idea why! In addition, the employees seem disgruntled and rude and not very willing to help. I threatened to leave (I already created a new checking account) and they said ok, no problem! If this is how a business treats their customers I want nothing to do with them. read more

I have been a longtime customer (close to 20 years). Recently, my husband went to deposit our tax return (in both our names) into my account (my name only). I had signed it, he signed it and was there to deposit it. They would not let him deposit it and when I called, I was told that I could not deposit it because it was in both our names and was considered a third party check. Seriously?!?
