Contacted for work via thumbtack in San Francisco.. Asked if they were insured. They said yes. That was a lie. When confronted blamed me and said the job was too small to do anyway. Wasted my time and was incredibly rude. Would never recommend. RUDE AND DISHONEST. read more

Victor was very responsive on the yelp app. I have a rental unit and Victor contacted my tenant and scheduled a time to meet. Victor showed up on. Time and diagnosed and fixed the issue. We thought everything was resolved, but my tenant called me and said he was experiencing the same issue. Victor called my tenant, scheduled another time to meet and resolved the issue again. He followed through and made sure everyone was happy. It is hard to find good, trustworthy tradesmen these days, and I am happy that I have found my go to Electrition. I will continue to use him for any issues that arise with my apartments. A big plus is that he speaks Spanish and is able to clearly communicate with my tenants. Thanks again Victor! read more

I cannot be happier with Bright Sparks. Alex is a true professional. Needed a newly wired ceiling light fixture installed. He came out on a Saturday, took a look, quoted me a price that was much lower than the half-dozen or so other electricians I had contacted. Low enough that I wondered if it was too good to be true. So I set up an appointment for next Saturday. It was not too good to be true. He came out with a partner the next Saturday on time, did his business in less than a half an hour, and cleaned up when he was done. Fantastic. read more

Bright Sparks Electric - This was not here before. It is now. Thanks Alex! - Electricians Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Victor was great. He responded promptly and scheduled a time quickly. He built and replaced a ceiling fan and installed a light fixture. I tried to do it myself because I have replaced many light fixtures In more than one home but I couldn't figure this one out. Our house is old and janky. I couldn't believe how quickly he was able to get it done. He obviously has experience with old construction. His price was fair and less than others with more ratings on Yelp. The bonus was Victor explained a lot and I learned some new things. He's a cool guy who knows his stuff. I will hire him again. read more

I don't know if this guy only services people he knows or what, but Alex demonstrated a complete lack of professionalism during my interaction with him, and I highly recommend going with another electrician if you need a job done by a certain time and date. Or, really, if you need a job done at all. I had called in a week before I moved apartments (which is already stressful enough) and scheduled an appointment with Alex to have a large light fixture removed from my old place and reinstalled in my new one. He seemed friendly enough on the phone, and the time we settled on was at 9:00 AM on a Friday, not exactly an unusual appointment. However, when the day and time came and I was frantically coordinating movers and cleaners, Alex was absolutely nowhere to be found. I gave him an extra hour just in case things were busy that day, but he did not show; I called him repeatedly on every phone number listed on the website and left multiple concerned voicemails, but never heard anything back. Finally, after waiting two full hours and realizing I was not going to get my light changed out if I didn't call someone else, I gave up and went with Blacklite Electric, who were able to come within 90 minutes of my call and saved the day (with excellent service to boot; see my review there for more info). I honestly do not understand how a service-based company like Bright Sparks can stay in business when they simply blow off scheduled appointments without explanation. Steer clear. read more

I used Alex to install 6 canned lights in my living room about two weeks ago. After Alex came out and quoted the job, I set an appointment for about a month later for the job to be completed. During that month I emailed him questions regarding the future job and I will say that he was a bit slow on responding to the emails; however he always did return my emails. He also called to confirm my appointment several days prior to the appointment. He did a great job. I really couldn't image someone doing a better job and I am a very particular person. He measured everything out meticulously and kept me informed during the process. He checked all of my circuits not to overload them with the lights and so forth. He even fixed one of my outlets while he was there. There was a team of 3 that came to my house and within less than a day's time I had working can lights in my living room with a dimmer! I was there the whole time while they worked and they always appeared to be working very hard. Most of the team spoke Spanish, so I didn't really understand what they were talking about, however Alex completely kept me informed. I knew that I would need to paint and patch after the lights were installed and I was very happy that they didn't destroy the crown molding on my ceiling. The moldings were completely intact; there were just a few extra holes which was very impressive because I expected many holes. At the end of the job, Alex had a fourth guy come to my apart to patch the few holes and then the following day the paint guy came back and painted the ceiling. Alex was very professional, easy to talk to and clear about what he was doing. I was also very happy with the price. I will definitely use him again. read more

I called Alex based on the yelp reviews! I got an estimate for the work that needs to be done on a building we are in the process of buying. I appreciated Alex's punctuality and follow through on what he said he was going to do. The estimates he gave us were really good - won't hesitate to call him when we close on the property! Update: Alex did a great job on all our electrical needs! read more

My wife contacted Bright Sparks for a quote on a few different electrical projects that needed completing in our home. Victor contacted her quickly, and was at our home the following day. We received a courtesy text letting us know how far he was, and he was right on time. We had a few poorly installed ceiling fixtures that needed inspection. Victor was able to inspect the wiring quality, reinstall two fixtures and put up a third one. All in about 3 hours total. He walked me through where the problems were, showed me how he fixed them, and did a great job with the installations. This a family owned business that understands honesty, integrity and service. I will recommend Victor and Bright Sparks to all my friends and family. read more

GET A QUOTE IN WRITING!!! Alex quoted me an hourly rate of $60/hour when he came for the diagnostic visit but when he came back to fix the problem, he tried to charge me $180/hr! He also sent his son to do the work, whom I'm assuming has the same qualifications? Luckily, it was a pretty easy job (installing a couple of 2 bulb light fixtures). Either way, I have another electrical issue, but I definitely won't be calling this guy to fix it! read more

Alex and his team of electricians are as good as it gets. I brought in 3 electrician contractors to provide quotes whom also appear at the top of the YELP rankings for Chicago electricians. The quotes and responses I received were very disappointing. Not to mention that every single one of them was hours late. Enter Alex from Bright Sparks. Alex was on time every day and charged extremely reasonable rates. I could not be more pleased and trust me, I am a very difficult consumer to satisfy. I do not post on YELP often but it would be a disservice to all of you if I did not spread the good word about Bright Sparks. I would recommend them in full confidence to any and all. read more

Alex was great. He quoted me a bit lower than two others AND without any complicated stipulations. I got a three page long text message back from one other electrician on all the different possible charges. Alex was done in under an hour and charged me $20 under the highest end of his quote. read more

Thank you Alex Castro and Victor for removing the ugly shiny brass and glass fixture from my rental in portage park.If there was an ugly fixture this light would have gotten an award.Alex and Victor showed up on time installed the modern fixture and put in a dimmer. They had to go and buy a piece to insure the bowl design would be secure. This house is old and it was a very hot day but they got the cables straight and now i have a beauty!Alex and Victor were very reassuring and professional and reasonably priced. i would recommend them in a heartbeat. Highly recommended. Installed a new ceiling fan remote kit, changed out a faulty light fixture, and replaced an electric outlet in my kitchen in a little over two hours. Professional and courteous service. read more

I started dealing with Alex last year (2013). The first time he was prompt, the second time he returned my call three days later, and said he had an emergency. I gave him the benefit of a doubt. Recently I called him to repair one of the jobs he supposedly completed last year and he refuses to come and repair it. I am so disappointed in his lack of dependability and professionalism. read more

As an apartment building(s) landlord, having great contacts is essential and vital in maintaing your buildings. Alex was quick and did a fine job. I've notice people tend to complain about either painters or plumbers e.t.c. Don't always arrive on time with the appointment set up on over the phone. I personally don't mind and fully understand that sometimes one job can take longer than it suppose to. I'm used to it, much prefer a reliable person who won't take advantage of me than someone who is a little late and honest. read more

These guys came through in the clutch for me 2 years ago and replaced a circuit breaker in my sister's basement on the morning of the 4th of July. Alex is the frickin MAN. I dont know why everyone on earth doesnt use this guy. I mean, so many so-so reviews of overpriced electricians. Just call Alex--he will charge you fairly, and come on time. If only all contractors were so FRICKIN good. Alex is to Electricians as Rivers Cuomo is to songwriting. Nahm sayin? But call his cell phone, at 773-412-3014. read more

I called Alex because I saw sparks coming out of my outlet while I was ironing a shirt. The wire from my iron also had a few flames. I was a little shaken when I called Alex and as soon as I told him what happened, he said he would come out the very next day. Alex kept his promise. He arrived on time and he did an excellent job diagnosing the problem. The problem was not my outlet; it was my iron. The fee for the diagnosis was more than fair. Alex even went the extra mile and put a new cover on the outlet. I would definitely recommend him to a friend or anyone. read more

Worked with Alex recently on blown outlets in older building. Was on time, diagnosed and performed repair effectively/efficiently and at fair price (and tightened up a few other issues he caught while there). Will definitely use again and recommend. read more

No power in about half a dozen outlets or appliances. Thought I was in real trouble. Saw that Bright Sparks had the best reviews, so I thought I'd give it a try. Called and told Alex the problem. He said he'd be there in twenty minutes and he was. It took several hours to find the problem, but he did, without putting any holes in the ceiling or the walls. Despite the time spent fixing the problem the cost was more than reasonable, or should I say less than reasonable. Anyway I'm glad I called Bright Sparks and I won't hesitate to call them again in the future. read more

I called Alex at the recommendation of my neighbor. Because her apartment is similar to mine, and I needed a ceiling fan hardwired in a bedroom with exactly the same setup, it seemed that he, having done the same job before, would know what to do. This was the wrong thing to assume. After I put all the bed back in the center of the room, it became clear that Alex had installed the ceiling fan three from the center in a way was obviously off-center. More so, the hole in the ceiling he had made to pull the wires through bigger than ceiling fan itself, so not only is it off center, there's a big hole next to it, too. When I called to ask why it had been done this way, he man-splained to be how he could have put the ceiling fan in the center but chose this way because it just easier and doing it right would have required more work. The guy he was working with was great, but Alex himself doesn't seem to understand how condescending and insulting he was. He talked to me like I was stupid and helpless the whole time he was in my apartment. What was especially confounding to me was that I was less than 5 feet away the whole time, and instead of discussing his decisions with me, he made them for me. I asked that he come back to fix it and set an appointment for two weeks later because he couldn't give me a guaranteed time that he could come again, and I was traveling for work. The following week, when I was out of town, he called to tell me he was at my place, but the day of the scheduled appointment, he neither said he wasn't coming nor responded to my texts or calls asking for confirmation. So, if you want someone to come over to your house and be rude to you while doing a sh*ty job, who then comes over when you say you won't be there and but then skips out on your scheduled appointment time, Alex is the guy for you. read more

Alex was fantastic. I had two jobs for him in my house and he fixed both of them quickly. He is polite and a no nonsense kind of guy. Alex responded quickly and came out to do the repair on a service entrance (outside meter and electrical feed) the same day in Portage Park on my Father-in-law's house. Wow- These guys are righteous! Must tell Chicago-Land folks, if you require a truly professional service for electrical needs- these are the people to call- hands down! Yesterday- Bright Sparks installed a new electric meter box ( 200 amp- 36 circuit panel), as we reside in an older dwelling, electric completely outdated and want to (in near future), add on/expand existing structure. Workers arrived spot on time, extremely coordinated, organized and skilled. They exhibited team work on a impressive level, enabling them to complete a large job within the day. Polite, and helpful to answer any questions; they were very tidy and maintained the integrity to our home as if they had never been there. Alex the owner, is highly professional, personable and well informed on upgrades that dwelling required. His expertise at performing the work was top notch! Price was more than reasonable and he was flexible to work within our budget. So if any of you folks, your friends, relatives, neighbors require this type of service- look no further than Bright Sparks! We look forward to having them perform additional work in the future! R. Electricity is weird, right? and trust me, it's even weirder in an historic building. But Victor promptly provided an estimate on three jobs for me. While he was unable to accomplish one of them (long story but most definitely not his fault and I'll likely have him back to do it-- it was just too involved), he spent a good six plus hours at work on the other two jobs (a whole house surge protector and a GFI outlet in our concrete-walled bathroom) and I am totally satisfied with his efforts. Best of all, he still came in a bit under his initial estimate, which given the circumstances I felt was entirely fair for the two jobs he did-- and included all parts. Good communication was a big plus here. I'll be inviting him back for a few more electrical projects, and I know my neighbors will appreciate hearing about his prices and the quality work that accompanied it. Will most definitively use Victor and Bright Sparks again. read more

I don't recommend this guy. He initially called back and set an appointment for a couple days later. Didn't really sound too interested in potential business to begin with. Great guy. Great price. On time. Honest work. I reached out to Alex on a Thursday afternoon and he volunteered to come by that Saturday morning to submit a free estimate on the work I needed done, which included the installation of undermount lights in my kitchen, as well as two new wall-hanging light fixtures in both of my bathrooms. He quoted me a very fair price. A few weeks later, I called him back and scheduled him to do the work. He arrived at my place at exactly the time (9am) when he said he would and did an excellent job in a short amount of time. I would definitely recommend Alex to anyone looking for an honest, dependable electrical contractor for their home or business. read more

I had high hopes for Bright Sparks Electric -- the reviews on Yelp were simply amazing. Too good to be true. And guess what? They WERE too good to be true. Alex was supposed to come over at 3:00 this afternoon to install a ceiling fan. At 3:15, when he didn't show up or call, I called him. He had TOTALLY FORGOTTEN about the appointment and didn't so much as apologize or even acknowledge that he had forgotten. All he said is that he was "tied up" with his current job. To be fair, he did offer to come an hour later, and arrived precisely at 4:00. Now the good news: he and his assistant Moses did an excellent job at a very reasonable price. In the end, I am satisfied, but it took quite a bit of stress to get me there. read more
