So, here's the thing... I blew a shock and took my car to Briggs, I knew i needed all new shocks and struts. That's fine. I ask about my brakes because I heard a small noise starting, "the brakes are good". Ok great they say they are fine, they say they are half worn, fine for awhile. So, obviously I believe a "mechanic" about my car. Most people paying for mechanic service would believe the person they're entrusting essentially their lives to, considering the things that could happen while driving if the cars not safe) and i have a small child it's not just my life at risk here. Less than a week later I'm calling them because I'm hearing grinding and rubbing sounds when I brake and I need them to take a look asap. So I drive over immediately. "The brakes are about half worn, if you want we can do the brakes, the rotors...$900 but since we ""missed it last week"" we'll do it for 675$". I'm going to attach photos that will clearly speak for themselves but I was metal to metal. It's honestly unbelievable that I went to this place twice in the same couple weeks and even watched them take my tires off and "inspect". But here we are with my brakes at the absolute limit here. Great at a simple task like vin verification that is not within the DMV practices. Multiple times they did not fill up my commuter vehicle with oil. Called them and they apologized profusely and mentioned a free or discount rate the next time. Reminded them about it and they have never kept their promise. The lack of mechanical integrity is appalling and unsafe. Offered them a few more chances to redeem themselves and they continued to not be concerned with safety of my vehicles. Task that the service books say a certain allotted time for an average mechanic take twice as long and I always have to bring it back for the work to be mended. The older gentleman at the service desk is condescending and sexes towards women when I have waited to pick up my car multiple times. Can not be bothered to read simple instructions on mediocre task. For example filling up the tires to the correctly recommended manufacturer specification posted on the vehicles manual or door jamb. Too many others to write in this limited character review. Better off purchasing tires from anywhere else that is local and more affordable with actual warranties not promises that never become reality. These are my accounts that are factual. I left a local children museum and car wouldn't start. It was a battery / alternator issue. I messed with wires and got car started. However, no acceleration at all. Went to Briggs due to pure distance from where I was. I will return and recommend to everyone that will listen due to amazing friendly service. Three tired and hungry kids with me. Sergio was hands down one of the best people I've ever had help me with a " broken car" issue. He not explained what he was doing and why. He explained it to an untrained ear in a way that was helpful and not insulting. It turned out to be nothing major and we were on our way within 20 minutes. Car starts and runs great again. What scammers. My car is from California and I needed a smog check for my registration. I now know that California does not accept smog checks from out of state, and it was my fault for not looking this up before hand. However, I was unaware of that and called Briggs Tire asking if they would be able to take care of it for me, explaining my situation. And I was very clear about my car being from California and my smog check/registration being in California, so I clarified it multiple times. They told me it was fine on the phone and then again when I confirmed it in person. (My license place is also from California). They said they would take care of it and happily accepted my money. A month later, I called them asking if they could check if the information had been sent in to the DMV because I had not received my registration. The person on the phone then proceeded to say very rudely that Connecticut would never do a smog check for California and hung up. If you knew this information, then why was I told multiple times that getting my smog check here for my car registered in California would be fine?? The only reason I was there was because they said it would be okay, and so I trusted them and didn't look into the situation more. It was my fault for not doing my research, but it was in part because I trusted this institution, which I now know was a mistake. read more

I cannot say enough great things about Justin & Kevin! They both haven been extremely helpful in fixing several issues with my car. I originally had used them to temporarily fix a flat about 5 years ago. Justin quoted me an extremely competitive price to replace my tires. Due to the specs on my car special tires had to be ordered and Justin was extremely prompt and temporarily patched my tire to last until they could do the whole set replacement. Briggs Tire also consistently services and performs regular maintenance on my car and is extremely flexible when it comes to fitting me in for service! In an emergency situation Justin and Kevin stayed late to ensure that they learned what happened with the car to best remedy the situation. Both gentlemen are extremely helpful and willing to fix the problem properly and in a timely fashion. They have the most aggressive and competitive pricing in town! I found Kevin about 5 years ago when I was a broke college student and was shopping around for the best price for a repair. I can't remember what it was but every other joint in town quoted me 1200-1600. When Kevin said $800 I went with him. 5 years later, I've moved twice, gotten married, gone through two other cars and Kevin is still the only guy I'll use. My husband loves Briggs as well and even bought his current truck from them. I've never trusted a mechanic more. He never tries to sell us on anything we don't need, gives us practical advice and the price is always fair. We buy our tires from him as well. He works with our often challenging schedules and is just an all round good guy. We live 45 mins away now and still use him for everything. We were on the highway for a trip from Virginia to Boston when the car's steering started to make some noise. We pulled off and this was the first place we found. Although the reviews were mixed, we decided to take the chance. They were the only shop that could see us. They were accommodating and, although we needed to wait a few hours, they got us fixed at a reasonable price and back on the road the same day. I'll update later in the quality of the work, but so far, so good. Update: The car is running great, and the owner and two mechanics stayed an hour late to get us on the road. If you are in Norwalk and need automotive work, don't think twice. Update - Feb 18. The car is still running great. My own mechanic said it was good work. This is a solid, honest, quality shop. I went in for an emissions test and I passed. But, the next time I used my car I had sensors going off on my dash and my check engine light came on. I spoke to my normal mechanic and he said the computer they used could have been incompatible with my cars computer causing the sensors to go off. I called the business to tell them what happened and asked if they'd be able to clear the check engine light, as there was no reason the engine light should have been on it since I had just passed the emissions test that day. The man on the phone was very rude and basically was claiming to be too busy to deal with me when what I needed was a very simple fix. I will not be giving this rude company any more of my money or business. read more

This week I had a sudden problem with my windshield wiper linkage that I needed to get taken care of ASAP, and my usual repair shop was booked solid. I decided to try Briggs because it's within walking distance of my home. I found the employees to be very polite and helpful, and they fixed my car more quickly and more cheaply than I expected, which I really appreciated. I also felt like they were being straight and honest with me; I originally took the car in on a Saturday morning, and they asked me to come back on Monday when their expert mechanic was working instead of just going ahead and trying to do the tricky repair right away. The owner/person who is at the front desk is a huge jerk. He is always very rude and acts as if you are bothering him by dropping off your car. Unpleasant in an emergency situation on the road down 95 south. Had breakdown. Wanted quick diagnosis to determine if we should get car fixed, abandon car, rent a car to go home etc. Had to wait our turn since we hadn't made an appointment... I apparently didn't have my psychic abilities working to know a water pump would go out right at that section of 95 and to book an appointment ahead of time. Long story short, 24 hours later, two hotel rooms, lunch dinner and breakfast bought, we were on the road again. I will say they appear to do good work, but in an emergency situation they won't go out of their way to assist you. I only hope the next time the owner is traveling and he needs help in an emergency situation, others are as helpful to him as he was to us... read more

I needed my tire checked out - and yep, there was a leak. With no appointment, they were quick to get my car in, find the problem and fix it all within 30 min. A+ for that. The folks that worked in the garage were always smiling, had excellent manners and were seriously hussling. And thats the end of my nice review. The owner of the shop and his son were quite rude and really seemed irritated that they had to be at work. Their general disposition was very unpleasant and neither of them could even manage a Hi, Hello, How can I help you - something other than grunting. The owner had a great time chattin it up with people on the phone telling his whole life story, but had no use for anyone in the waiting room. I don't understand how business owners miss huge opportunities to advance their sales through a little customer service - it really does not take much. Also, the waiting area is incrediably dirty and looks like it has never been cleaned. If you need your business vehicle worked on - then maybe this is your place. If you like people to say Hi to you, have resonable manners and a clean place to wait - then I recommend you go somewhere else. read more

Service was quick, affordable, and efficient. I went in with a flat tire, and within 15 minutes they had patched my tire and sent me on my way. The parking lot is kinda crappy and small, so look online and try to avoid going there when it's busy, and the office is small, cramped, and a little dirty, but that's what I've come to expect when going to a mechanic. I've been to Briggs twice to have work done on my Jeep. I was rederred to them from a Jeep forum since I was having trouble finding a local place to do my installs. I had a full suepsnsion system installed there which was something that was above my pay grade to try in my home garage. The lift was perfectly installed and I went about a year without issue using my Jeep offroad. Then disaster happened. I didn't listen to my spotter and ended up destroying a bnucg of steering compoents. I had to do some significant repairs and upgrades at this point (ball joints, knuckles, drag link, tie rod). I decided to go back to Briggs to have them do work for me. The guy assigned to my Jeep, Justin , explained everything that was involved with the installs and gave me an estimated time to complete the job prior to me taking the long ride. It was nice to get a full explanation as well as suggestions (which actually saved me money) on what I should consider doing. As promised, my Jeep was ready on time and I was shocked at how well it drove when I left there. It felt like it was brand new again. Even though it was a long ride for me, I will gladly return next time I need any major work done. They guy who worked on my Jeep is also a Jeep owner so he knows his stuff. Very good shop and I would highly recommend it, especially if you own a Jeep with lots of aftermarket stuff like me. read more

I was involved in an accident going northbound on I95 and was hit from behind from someone who had fallen asleep at the wheel. My brake lines blew for some reason upon impact and fortunately I was unharmed and was able to limp off the exit #14 in search of a repair shop on a late winter Friday afternoon. I drove into the Briggs Tire company and explained that I needed to have this fixed now. Many people were depending on me to plow that night for one of the impending winter storms. The non essential Truck damage otherwise was going to need to wait until spring. But I needed my brakes fixed now! I was told to sit tight and he would see what could be done. I have a 2004 Chevy work truck which I use as my winter plow vehicle FYI. His shop was very busy with car repairs and emissions testing I sat in his waiting area and observed, I'm sure a typical busy day. Finally after about 45 minutes he got my truck in to a service bay. Yes, he said the brake lines ruptured but could be replaced. He called his local parts supplier and had the replacement lines delivered. We are now getting close to 4pm and they close at 5. Two techs worked at the same time to try to quickly get the job done. At 4:45 with new lines installed they could not bleed air out of the brake lines. It seems the bleeder valves were rusted shut from all of my winter plowing the last 9 years. The only way to resolve this problem was to replace the entire hub assembly..........I real GM issue. It is now after 5pm! doors and shop are closed. The tech was told to stay and do whatever it took to get me back on the road! Somehow a local supplier located 2 units from another source while The tech patiently waited for the additional parts to be delivered. 6PM! The additional parts arrived and were promptly installed. The vehicle was road tested and I was gone at 7pm, a 2 full hours after normal business hours!!!!! I did a Google search to find the telephone# for Briggs tire and stumbled upon a review and felt compelled to write this after reading the comments from Mr. Ford Ranger. read more

STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! Not more than 12 months after they replaced my clutch for $1200 I am spending another $1000 to have it replaced again. I have been driving a manual for 14 years and have never had to replace one, and to have it go 2x in 1 year. I would not recommend this place to anyone, for anything. read more

He's a gentleman and keeps his cool even when others do not. Kevin always takes time to explain what's wrong and what's involved.
