Definitely a hidden gem worth stopping for if you love greasy spoons. Small town hospitality, in a shall we call rustic little shack with just one window. I didn't notice it only has one window cause it was so small an orifice in the wood panel walls, barely any light came in. The parking lot is shared with a motorcycle shop so never mind the tough guy types around the back. I had the golden chicken strip dinner, and let me tell you they were the done right. I've been on a cruisade to find my golden chicken strips for at least two weeks. All if my experiences had been soggy, over cooked, under just plain sorry. The breakfast menu is huge and pretty awesome. An omelette lovers paradise if you like traditional greasy spoons. The corn beef hash was better than most, not dry or overcooked. They keep your coffee full, and the food comes out fast. Don't be offended if they remind you to tip, I think its pretty sleepy around there as they have a cemetery as neighbors to the south. Note worthy are the daily specials, some aren't cheap, but since when is all you can eat cod cheap? I haven't tried it but its worth checking out. I was so excited to go here after reading the reviews... However, it barely met my expectations for a "home style" breakfast eatery. We loved the outdoor seating, and our server was sweet, unfortunately the food didn't even compare to Black Bear Diner for us, and that says a lot. We don't typically support the chain food restaurants, and much prefer the more "home style", family ran, route. Here were the problems: Country fried steak and eggs, cheddar on the eggs, and toast- Country Fried Steak was your typical, under seasoned country fried steak. We expected to get home style gravy, real gravy, with bits of sausage and all, unfortunately it was more of what you would get out of a packet. The eggs came out missing the cheese, and when we mentioned this, the waitress disappeared with the plate and came back with unmelted shredded cheese placed on top, which cooled the food on the plate. We had to request hot food, which we got a little faster than you would think, if you know what I mean... Steak and eggs- Eggs were perfectly done. The steak had no flavor to it. So if you're looking for a piece of steak cooked to order, but with no added flavor, you'll be fine with this plate. Pancakes- now these were good. Crispy edges just how I like em! The place needs a make over "BIG TIME". *Pictures on the walls are old *Bench seating at booths are very old and uncomfortable. *Restrooms need a lot of attention. *The food, its a grease pit. Nothing to write home about. *The owner, Murry, is a nice guy with the customers but, he talks your head off and carries a LOUD voice. Its annoying when you are trying to eat. *The waitresses are very nice and curtiouse. There is thou one (large gal) that is very un-professional. Even thou we live walking distance from Bridgehead Cafe, it has been about a year since I have been there and I don't miss it. This is the place you go to when you want straight up down home soul filling food. There is nothing fancy about this place. Literally, old booths, picnic tables outside, even the pie display looks old. They have lamenated trivia pages on every table. Heck, the place is right across the street from a cemetary and still has lines! I say all of that with a giant smile. because that is exactly what I want in a place like this. From the platters the size of my torso, to the cinnamon roll french toast made from their own cinnamon rolls.....to the biscuits and gravy approved by my Oklahoma transplant wife. Now, what I wanted to give this place was a 4.9 stars. There are only 2 reasons why it isn't 5. 1) It's stinking expensive! Now that isn't a BAD thing, I am just not rich and $30 before the well earned and deserved tip on a breakfast for 2 is a bit steep. 2) I tend to find anything in the non pancakes/waffles/french toast realm really very bland. This also was why it was approved by my wife lol. I just don't like coating everything in ketchup and hot sauce. Now about the staff: AMAZEBALLS! AWESOMESAUCE! They are sweet, patient, talkative without being annoying or taking away from their speed. They are accurate as well. No matter how busy they are, or how bad their day is going, they have a smile, and a laugh to share. Now, one of my most loved things about this place is their punch card. You get a punch for every visit, and eventually you will get a free burger (I think that's what it is anyway). Now lets not forget the nightly all you can eat deals....come on who doesn't love that?! Although from the street this looks like a rinky dink little shack once you get inside you'll find it to be quite homey and comfortable. The sign says "family dining" and they really stay true to that. The people who eat here are mostly regulars and seem to be on a first name basis with the employees. Parking is never a problem since the restaurant is located in it's own little gravel lot right off of E. 18th. My grandma lives just across the street so she and I would visit Bridgehead Cafe pretty frequently over the past couple of years, especially during the summer after my first year at UCLA when I was living with her until school started again. Service is warm and friendly and you're always seated and served quickly. I remember back in the day they had a pretty cute waiter which is why I would get especially excited about coming to eat at Bridgehead. One down side is that they're not open for dinner Mondays and Tuesdays so if you try to go on either of those nights you'll be SOL. The do have this AYCE special that changes depending on the day of the week and it's about 7 bucks per person. Wednesdays it's Liver 'n' Onions, Thursdays it's Spaghetti, Friday it's Fried Fish or Clams, Saturday and Sunday it's Chicken. I've done the all you can eat fish before and they just keep bringing you out more plates of food until you tell them to stop. I've passed this cafe several times visiting family nearby. Finally gave it a try yesterday and was not disappointed! First of all, once we (my boyfriend and I) walked in we were greeted the owner, Murray, who was taking orders. He joked with us for a while and took our to-go order. He was very funny. While we looked around at the decor, we saw it was very old American, rustic and there's always something charming about visiting a place that seems untouched by the the modern world today. We decided to wait outside since it was beautiful there and although we didn't have a sit down service, we saw how attentive the waitress was to the neighboring tables. She was on it! haha Murray brought us our food and wished us a good day. Once we were at our friend's house, we were able to try the delicious smelling food! We ordered the mushroom omelette breakfast, the chicken fried steak breakfast and got the deluxe breakfast for our friends. Everything was a hit and there wasn't anything left! I have to say that this is one of my most favorite places to eat at. I am a huge fan of Mom and Pop places (better food that is old-fashioned homemade style) and this place is exactly that. It's located by the Antioch Cemeteries (which I think is cool) and if my boyfriend and I time it just right, we can bypass the rush. We have been there when it's really busy and also when it isn't, but have received the same service regardless of the amount of people present. The service is always wonderful and the wait staff makes me feel at home. They are friendly, welcoming, and you can banter with them as if they were family. I stop by so often, I know the staff by name! As far as the decor is concerned, it's like walking back in time to how Antioch used to be. It's very rustic and it makes me feel like the people who own, work, and operate the place are very hardworking. In fact, the decor is full of so many things that it makes for good conversation while you wait for your food. The menu has plenty of delicious things and sometimes I walk in knowing what I want, glance at the menu or at their specials, and end up getting something else entirely, which is never a bad thing. Their food is always well proportioned and cooked to order. Everything is fresh and made from scratch, something that is hard to find now-a-days. I am on a mission to try everything on their menu and, so far, I have not been disappointed with a single thing. I'll admit that no one is perfect, but if there is anything wrong with what I have ordered -like my fries not being crispy when I asked for it- it is promptly taken care of and is something rarely repeated. I have tried several breakfast items: Waffles (ask for it deep fried!), pancakes, cinnamon roll french toast (so good!), and eggs benedict, just to name a few. Their burgers are juicy and very filling. I love their dinners, especially the chicken fried steak with country gravy! Their taco salad always hits the spot, so does their chicken pot pie, and chicken enchiladas which are made with real fresh chicken, not some frozen dinner style slop! I have to say that all that I have tried is either a 4 or 5 stars for me which is rare. So, the next time you want an old rustic style place where the staff is happy to make you happy and where the food is fresh and delicious, come to Bridgehead Cafe. Murray will always make sure you are welcome and has a high priority to give you not only the best service, but the best food he can. He always says something like, "When you come to a restaurant you expect two things: great service and a great product. I always make sure we deliver both, otherwise why would you come back?" Went to late breakfast on a weekday. Service was decent but nothing special. The restaurant is old and run-down and clearly there's been little investment in the front-of-house in decades. I certainly don't require a corporate, modern look everywhere I go, but this place could definitely use a bit of cleaning and freshening. Ordered French Toast and scrambled eggs & bacon. The food was pretty bland and mediocre, and definitely not worth the price, even with the coupon. Are they not spicing the food at all? No salt, no pepper, no cinnamon in the French Toast? Even the bacon wasn't great, though it was the best part of the meal. I've had LOTS of breakfasts in little hole-in-the-wall places like this all over the country, and what they lack in decor, they usually make up for in food quality. Sadly, that's not the case here. I was hungry and I cleaned my plate, but I wouldn't come back again. Tried this place today after a coworker suggested it was "the best homemade biscuits and gravy" he had ever had. I have to disagree and assume this is the ONLY biscuits and gravy he has ever had. It was tasteless and disappointing. No pepper, no sausage, no flavor.. typical packet gravy. The home fries were also bland and tasteless. The restaurant itself was dingy. A strange mix of families and tweakers coming down. The staff was not friendly and never came back to check on us after bringing our food. I had to stand at the counter to ask for our bill, where I was ignored for a solid few minutes while the waitresses stood facing me but never making eye contact while discussing what time they would take their breaks. My kids play soccer about 2 mins away so we figured we would try it out, the cashier in front was very nice however the server we had was rude and not friendly at all, honestly I was kinda shocked by her attitude but thought hey if the food is good it's worth it, I asked for a over medium egg and it came almost scrambled, no yolk at all, I won't be visiting it again. Wow. I really wanted this to be my new hang out and go to place but what a bad experience I just had! First of all, I read the reviews and sounded great. I decided to try out some breakfast. As I entered, the place is not busy at all so they tell me to grab any table. I do and start going over the menu. Really good prices I notice and decide t go with An OJ and the waffle, bacon and 2 scrambled eggs. I chat it up with some regulars and all seems good. The OJ is awesome. So far so good. The. I notice it's been a long while, especially since the place isn't even close to being 1/2 full. After what seemed to be a super long wait, my food arrives and my server, apologizes for such a long wait. No problem. So.......you would think the food is going to be spot on after such a long wait. Nope. Bacon is great, eggs are ok, but my waffle was as hard as a rock! I'm serious, I had to use a knife to cut into it. So I ask my server nicely if this is normal and show her how hard the waffle is. She says no but maybe that's why it took so long and again apologizes. She asks if I want another waffle or pancakes instead. I opt for the pancakes. She gets them done fairly quickly and I attack them as they look fluffy and really good. Man........they are undercooked and some of the batter is still wet in the middle. Gross, but at this point I'm hungry and eat anyways. About 1/2 way into the 2 pancakes, I cannot stomach any more as I begin to feel pretty gross. I leave and am currently pretty sick from the pancakes. I give 2 stars for the good service and excellent OJ & bacon but the rest........needless to say, this place is a 1 and done for me. My husband choice this cafe after eating there a few years ago. I guess it's not the same as it was back then. Appearance of the place is dirty. Service was slow. Then I ordered scrambled eggs, a waffle, bacon, coffee. My complete breakfast came totally cold. I returned the I returned the order and just asked for some toast and coffee. The toast came but it was lukewarm & sparse on butter (wouldn't melt) and never got any coffee refills. Husband order was steak and eggs. Steak was lukewarm, eggs-cold, hash browns awful. Darn it I thought I would be the first to review this place. I found it when I dropped of my U-Haul truck one morning after moving to Antioch. Temporarily, but that is another story. The breakfasts are good and the wait staff are super friendly. I went one Friday night for the all you can eat clams and fish which was okay and today for the all you can eat chicken which was good. The meatloaf was not very good and the broccoli was overcooked. The clam chowder was good. I recommend going for breakfast. And check out the rubber ducky collection. read more

Corn on the cob, and potatoes (baked, mashed or French fries, and salad, all for like $13! The staff was friendly and efficient. If you're expecting a classy place, this ain't it. Very small restaurant but everyone knows each other. I go here almost every weekend. The owner is a great business man he comes over to the tables and helps out his waitresses refilling coffee and bringing out food. Now the food is exceptionally awesome. Food usually comes out within 15 -20 mins of ordering even on busy days. The coffee here is amazing their fried chicken is so fresh and made daily. I agree with the other reviewers that wonder how this place gets so many high ratings. Quite possibly the worst breakfast I have ever had. I ordered the corned beef and hash. It was grey in color. It didn't taste like corned beef, more like deli pastrami meat mixed in with under cooked hash browns. My hash browns were mostly white with very little crisp to them. Very disappointing. The price is very high for the food you get in my opinion. I'd recommend Dennys or IHOP over this place. read more

1st time visiting this restaurant. Food was yummy & priced well for portion sizes. A lot of regulars eat here. They knew we were newbies. Our waitress was not the friendliest at first but warmed up by the end of our meal. I had a ruben sandwich. We love this place! In fact, it's a great place for breakfast!! If you get there early enough on the weekend, say before 9am, you can be in and out within an hour. Their portions are generous and their service is excellent! We have become regulars there, maybe not in comparison to some, but they recognize us now which makes for a homey feeling. The decor could use some updating however, I almost don't want the update anyway. It reminds me of your All-American Midwestern and has a old feel that you almost hate to love. I've been coming here forever and I've always been treated like family here. Not just another customer. But let me begin by saying that the food is excellent! If you're tired and you need a little pick me up, the coffee here mixed with the delicious greasiness of breakfast is a sure fire way to cure what ails you. Now, for the service. Lusanne is my heart and soul... Just the nicest lady you'll ever meet. Not only does she take care of anything you might need, shes also very personable and loves what she does. But if I'm being completely honest, the whole crew in the morning are just angels. I've never experienced customer service as profound as I have here, nevermind the fact that its a diner.
