Between the exceptionally good food at Hook and Plow, a most pleasant hotel experience, and a memorable trip to the High Desert Museum; our trip to Bend turned out to be a pleasure instead of the miserableness I expected. We had the Steak Tartare, the Chef's Board, the Blackend Crabcake, the Pear and Burrata Salad, and the Bone-in Pork Chop. We each got the cheesecake for desert and split the other dishes. This was more than enough for the three of us and we left full, happy, and with three large to-go boxes. The flavors of the various dishes were amazing. While all the dishes were vvery good, the standouts to me were the steak Tartare, the Pear and Burrata Salad, and the Cheesecake.

We were greeted by the host and seated quickly. We started our meal with a delicious non-alcoholic drink and the Chef's Board: a charcuterie with an assortment of cured meats, rustic bread, and various spreads. That came out pretty quickly. Unfortunately, our main courses came out much, much later and lukewarm. Luckily, the food was good enough that it made up for the temperature. I had the NY strip steak. The steak and the Boursin mashed potatoes alone were very good. The pickled onions and chimichurri complemented the meat very well. The meal was supposed to include brussel sprouts but came with a grilled broccoli cauliflower assortment instead. My wife had the Scallop Risotto which was also a great recommendation from the server. In reality, The Hook & Plow deserved 3 1/2 stars but that's not an option on Yelp. It may have been an off night for the staff, so I will give them the benefit of doubt. We would be open to trying it again sometime in the future.

Staying in the area and wanted to get dinner. Came here and it was pretty busy, which is why it was…read morestrange that the downstairs area was closed and just the main and upper levels open. The setup is awful as they have giant tables so you see 2 people sitting at a table for 6 in a busy restaurant on the main floor (probably why seat yourself when busy doesn't work). All tables were gone so we had to sit at the big bar style tables in the middle. But not enough seats to even sit at the same table, just next to eachother with giant poles in between us. Service is the slowest I've ever seen. We watched how awful it was for everyone else around us as well. Takes forever just to get a beer and don't worry, you'll watch your food die in the window while it waits too. Watched people leave including a couple that was there for about a half hour with no one ever even acknowledging them. So cold overpriced food and none of us tasted any sauce on this BBQ. Plus we go to sit next to other people's trash the entire time because bussing was not a thing they did unless forced to. We pushed it further away at least to give us more space away from filth. And the kicker - they have the audacity to charge $2 to share a plate. Are you kidding me! What's worse is that I had to use the women's restroom with a main door that doesn't close because the floor is warped. Toilet not bolted down and a curtain rather than a door on your stall. Only there can a place this dirty and rundown still be this packed - no other options. Terrible food and service.

He sweats and pushes us to order and eat fast, doing that waiter thing when they pretend they are not rushing you. "Just checking if you need that plate taken away." Not fooling anyone. Brusque to my brother who is into fine wines and requested tastes of some by-the-glass wines before committing to a glass or a bottle. My wife stated she is uncomfortable around the server. We don't go to the Open Door much now. Old review. A real romantic spot. Great drinks. My wife loves it. Sitting outside is best but the bar is good too. Some nights they put tables in the art gallery out front and you sit around the paintings and jewelry, kind of fun. There used to be a waitress named Kristen or Kirsten, a lady with long hair and clogs, the best server I've ever had and I don't just mean in Central Oregon. The Open Door is the probably the best dining experience in Sisters. Living in Tumalo and working throughout Oregon, I go to Sisters often. Unfortunately Sisters isn't a great town for food. The Open Door has some very-good food, and some pretty-good food. You never know which it's going to be. The halibut, meatballs, and lasagnas are solid. Berries and cream dessert is great. The menu doesn't change much over the years. If my wife didn't love it I wouldn't go back so often. Get bored eating the same dishes over and over. When my brother and his grown kids visit they like the atmosphere, especially those small houses outside with the plants. However they have trouble finding a selection that works for their way of eating, allergies, one is vegan and one is lactose intolerant.

I'd suggest checking out their website as well, it shares their personality of this restaurant. We visited on a Tuesday night shortly after they opened. The place was busy, full of happy people, and the energy was great. We sat at the bar and patiently waited for the staff--understandably busy with a full house. The service was wonderful, and the drinks were fantastic. We ordered the shrimp tacos, and they were delicious--definitely worth it! I also really appreciate that they support local vendors, like Sisters Smoke House and Sisters Bakery. We had a great experience and will definitely be back!

I had them and was very satisfied. Drinks were great, and we appreciated the non-alcoholic mocktail options for part of our group. The menu isn't very large and I think we both settled on choices quickly, deciding to try the most "quintessential" entrees to share. I chose the Blackened Redfish, and my boyfriend the Jambalaya. Even though we had already decided, the waitress went on her whole spiel through the menu highlights, including what we had already had planned to order. Awkward, but it was fine, and we didn't stray from our original choices. The Blackened Redfish was perfectly cooked and flaky. It was served on a bed of mashed potatoes with a slightly tangy sauce. All of it was tasty, but I was a bit disappointed in the lack of spice to the blackening seasoning and the sauce. Also, serving it on grits instead of mashed potatoes would have made it feel 100% more Cajun, even with lack of seasoning. The Jambalaya fared a bit better, although my boyfriend was also left puzzled by the lack of spice to this classic dish. In all ways it was a very good representation of New Orleans style red jambalaya, with the andouille sausage being particularly notable for flavor. The cornbread it came with was pretty good. We shared a piece of chocolate cake for dessert. A very decadent concoction of chocolate, peanut butter, and caramel. It was one of the better $12 slices of cake I've had. Overall? The service was good, if not a bit awkward with the menu spiel. The food was all very well prepared, but for a Cajun style restaurant they sure could stand to spice things up a bit. It's not cheap, but at least the entrees are a full sized meal and you don't have to order many "tiny plates" to cobble together a dinner.

The restaurant was full when we visited but we only had to wait about 10 minutes. It seats about 35. We also noticed during our visit, that as the tables emptied one by one, people would stop at 2 or 3 tables on their way out to greet their friends. A very happy place! There was only 1 cook & 1 waitress who were both pros at handling the load. They loved their job which is a huge + for their guests! FOOD: It was all very good. But when Sharrah brought my "1/2" order of Sue's Cafe Breakfast, I said "I think this is the FULL order right?". She just laughed & said "Nope"!
