Unexpectedly good pie. The food truck felt like an oasis as everything in the nearby towns was shutting down, and dinner was starting to look like biker bars or leftover beef jerky tucked in the car visor. The owners have their mobile pizza palace parked alongside the John Day River. Come back in a few months, and there'll be a couple of cabins built on site where you can sleep off your impending food coma. The ambiance is layered. Dusty, plump hills with jagged rock caps hug the town, and the blue snaking river quenches the eyes' thirst. The dirt pull-off can fit a handful of cars at the moment. Underneath the trees, there's a couple of tables to enjoy the scenery while eating. The girl at the window was nice, and so were the owners. The menu wasn't overwhelming, basically slices or whole pies, although they don't serve by the slice after lunch hours. Currently, the options are limited to four pizzas, and the non-meat toppings are even more scarce. There was an assortment of canned sodas displayed on the window. After placing my order, the service was surprisingly quick. They do take cash, card, and mobile pay. My wife and I got the Rodeo Cowboy whole pizza to share. It was pretty big, so I had to tap out after five slices, haha (no regrets). It was fantastic. They stone bake it, and it comes out hot in a sturdy box. The crust isn't greasy and holds the weight of the toppings, but it has just enough flex to allow a single-handed fold. They put a generous amount of yummy meats on it, none of them overpowering each other. The red sauce is partially house made, so good, and tied it all together. My only critiques are small ones. I ordered some extra toppings that didn't make it on there, and my wife was initially given the wrong soda type, all of which they were quick and eager to resolve. On the way out, I chatted with the owners after they closed up. They weren't expecting how much positive feedback they'd be receiving. One of their customers returned for a week straight. They thanked us for our patronage, pointed us in the right direction, and even gave us a hotel recommendation (which I'm writing from now). I looked back as I drove by, and they were both raising up a drink, as did I. If anything brings me back to Spray, Oregon, it'll be Topwater Pizza. Cheers!

What they don't mention as the best pizza in the world is not in NYC or Portland, it's in Spray Oregon.
