I can't believe I hadn't tried this place sooner: it was definitely overdue. The food was genuinely great, with everything tasting fresh and well put together, and the pricing made it even better since it felt like you were getting a lot of value for what you pay. Service was quick and efficient without feeling rushed, which made the whole experience really smooth. I also really liked the location and the character of the building as it adds to the overall vibe and makes it feel like a spot you actually want to sit and enjoy, not just grab food and leave. I came here for lunch on a Saturday and it was wonderful! There was plenty of street parking around, even for a Saturday, and it was free since it was the weekend. It was a bit confusing to find only because I had never been here before, but it's right inside the big doors in the 940 Monroe building/complex. It took awhile for us to get seated because the sign said to wait to be seated but then the bartender told us we can sit wherever we want. Our server came over right away and got us taken care of. There was a great drink menu! The food menu had a good variety as well. I ended up getting the whipped feta dip with focaccia and then a side of fries and their warm quinoa salad. 10/10! I've actually been craving the quinoa since I went! Lots of onions in it though (they weren't listed in the menu and I know now to ask for no onions) I'll definitely be going back! read more

I hadn't been to this place since it was JD Reardon's, which closed in 2019. My coworkers and I stopped by for lunch recently and I was happily surprised at the experience, especially given the lower reviews here. The space is much bigger than Reardon's, with plenty of seating for groups and an outdoor patio overlooking the courtyard of the condos. It was raining so we sat inside, but I'd love to come back and sit outside. Our server was very helpful and knowledgeable and great with service. We started with the cheese curds to share - it was a great portion size with marinara and ranch. We loved these! I ordered the La Bomba wrap which came with fries, or you can switch to coleslaw or a side salad. Sweet potato fries, onion rings, or truffle fries are also available for an up charge. The wrap was a good portion size and the fries were so good - the crispy, beer battered kind. Everything was hot and fresh, and I loved the wrap. It was like a buffalo chicken wrap, so pretty classic. My coworker got the caprese melt which looked incredible - a grilled cheese with tomatoes, chicken, pesto, and crusted in parmesan... yum. I'm definitely getting that next time. This was a great spot for lunch as we were in and out in an hour. I am glad we checked it out and I'll come back to try more menu items. read more

We traveled 100 miles to try BrickYard Tavern's chicken tenders. They did not disappoint!! My boyfriend ordered the appetizer and a side of fries. I ordered the buffalo chicken mac and cheese. "Hello, I went to your restaurant on Friday night with my son and husband. When our food was brought to the table, my husband's dinner was not delivered. We figured it was coming out b/c the server couldn't carry everything yet. About five minutes went by and we weren't checked on. I flagged another server down and asked about his meal. Then our server came over and said his meal wasn't made and that it would be right out and would be comped. I wasn't upset, having waited tables in the past I understand mistakes happen. We took the meal to go; it was the salmon. After eating it my husband got sick with nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Maybe it was cooked too fast b/c it was late and wasn't temped. Where do I begin.... I had an amazing experience with my family. We had Jamie as a server (I believe that's her name, the new girl) was great. Even when she made an honest mistake she corrected it immediately. Which I was very pleased with. The atmosphere gives you a bar feel, however if you go outside to eat sets the great tone for an amazing date! I personally order the Ultimate 3 cheese Mac with buffalo chicken. Needless to say it lived up to the name. It was outstanding. I thought it was going to be a block of cheese with noodles but I was wrong. It was creamy and gooey but when I tasted the chicken it gave it that much needed balance to! I was very happy with the Mac and cheese and the Onion Rings. I was so excited to try this restaurant, as I had been perusing the menu online and already knew what I wanted to order. We made reservations for 5 at 5:45 on a Saturday night. When we got there, there wasn't anyone to greet us and the sign was turned to "seat yourself" we eventually found our name on one of the tables, so we sat there. It was 6:05 and had yet to be greeted or even brought waters, even though one of the servers passed us many times serving a table nearby. I finally went up to said server and asked her who our server was because we hadn't been helped yet. She confirmed where my table was and left. A few minutes later, a young man came over and told us he was the bartender, but would be taking our orders. We ordered everything at that time because we already knew what we wanted for drinks, apps, and meals. When he brought back the drinks, he said they didn't have anymore cheese curds, which was one of the apps that we ordered. So we just ate the crab Rangoon dip that he brought a bit later, that I was really excited to try, as that was one of the things I knew that I wanted from the website. The dip was served in a small printed paper bowl, and not a ceramic bowl like in the picture, and was lukewarm, not piping hot. We ate it because we were hungry at this point and it was decent, but would have been better if the dip was warmer. When we asked for napkins and silverware, he said he couldn't find any and brought us plastic ware of just a knife and fork. I ordered the bomb dot com sandwich with fries for an up charge. When I tried cutting the sandwich with my plastic knife, it wouldn't cut & I didn't know why, until I pulled my sandwich apart and the bacon was the problem. It was too hard to cut though, let alone chew. So I just ate the chicken portion of only half the sandwich. It just was not good. The fries looked so good, as they were beer battered and nice and fresh. But they were way over salted. I love salty fries, but you could see so much course pieces of salt stuck on the fries and wouldn't come off when brushed. My friend got the salmon with the fancy butter and the garlic green beans, I tasted it along with the green beans and they were both so bland. The green beans were plain with not a taste of garlic on it. I also did not taste a note of the Beurre Maître D'Hôtel that was supposed to be on the salmon. We ordered the raspberry donut layered cheesecake, which was the best item I ate that night. We had to flag down our "server/bartender" for our bill. He did take the desserts off our bill because he felt bad for the quality of our food, which was appreciated. However, I still spent $50 on a disappointing evening all the way around. It looked like there were more servers out on the patio than inside. And some people who came in with a reservation and sat like we did, decided to go out to the patio and got served faster than we did inside. It's not like they were slammed inside either. There was a big table being served when we came in and 3 tables that were done and wrapping up their meal. When one table left, it wasn't cleared right away, I'm assuming so as people came in to seat themselves, they wouldn't be able to have a table to sit at. I would love to give this place another shot, but to be honest, I don't think I will. I love trying new restaurants that I haven't been to before and supporting the non-chains, but this experience has left a lackluster taste in my mouth, literally and figuratively. read more

Went here for dinner and ate at the bar. I had a view to the kitchen door (which probably wasn't a good idea). I ordered the Ahi Tuna Salad. Salad was good (room temperature) and the tuna was cooked okay. Also room temperature. Came with two dressings on the side (balsamic vinaigrette or sesame dressing). Sesame dressing was what I picked and it was good. Had a zombie dust beer. Class was clean and beer was fresh. Now for the not so good..... I had a clear view of the kitchen and some of the equipment...from what i saw, it is a very DIRTY kitchen. Where is the health inspector?? Would not go back. read more

We stopped in for dinner before a Broadway Show downtown and we had a great experience. It's located inside an old apartment building which is very cool and unique. Parking was simple along the road and we had no wait getting a table around 5:30pm on a Sunday. Our server was very friendly and she took great care of us. We started with the Brussel Sprout appetizer with Thai Chili sauce. This was my first time seeing a restaurant offer the Brussels with 4 different sauce options. The Thai Chili was delicious and they were cooked perfectly. For our entrees, I had the Perch Dinner with fries and coleslaw and my wife had the Korean Pork Quinoa Bowl. The fish and chips were pretty good and very lightly fried, which was perfect. I wasn't a fan of the jalapeño coleslaw but the homemade tartar sauce was great. My wife loved her bowl and the portions were huge. Definitely a cool spot that we were pleasantly surprised with. We will definitely come back. read more

On Saturday, Aug 23.... MSU Med School Matriculation and Return to the River festival.... we had a reservation for 14 people. Gracie was our server....AVOID AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY!!! While I hope it was her first day on the job, I think this is NOT the case and she should probably explore other job opportunities. When it was just five of us ordering drinks, one person in the group asked if there other cider was available (besides Blake's) she responded "I don't know". That's it... no offer to check, no understanding of what is available, etc. When we were getting ready to order appetizers (still just our smaller group of 5 of our reservation for 14), we inquired about gluten free options and again Gracie responded "I don't know"... and again, no attempt to get answers for us. When the rest of the group arrived, the ordering was very discombobulated and one of our tables didn't even get to order their food until after one table was eating their food. We had to ask multiple times for silverware, extra chips for the appetizer (and.... none of it arrived). We had to get up and walk across the restaurant to get napkins, ketchup, salt and pepper. The closest thing to an acknowledgement we received was "we only have one chef today". The first table to receive their food has to pass our "doggie bags" to the other two tables because they still didn't have their food. FTR: We arrived at 3:00; I'm still sitting in the restaurant at 4:55pm and while some of our group is finishing up their meals. The food was good and all the other workers were handling their jobs just fine. Around 4-430, another server showed up and seemed to be doing an excellent job. We didn't get her name but she has long blondish hair and was wearing a white tshirt. The bartender with the dreadlocks and the blonde bartender were hustling as were the kitchen staff. I hope that Gracie is able to get the training and support she needs to be successful or chooses a new career/job path. I would warn anyone coming to this restaurant to avoid Gracie if you'd like a server who knows the menu and has customer servide skills. read more

I've been down Monroe several times and some how missed the BrickYard Tavern. What a great restaurant! Service was fast and friendly. The ambience is nice and casual. The food was fantastic! I tried the BMT(?) Dip and it is one of the best takes on a French dip I have eaten. My drink was also delicious. They have various drinks named after celebrities. I had the Lil Wayne. Never would have thought to pair pineapple, coconut, and rum with mint, but it worked! They have a patio that was not open yet. They have live music starting in May. I am slightly biased because I live in the building (even on the same floor) so it's a quick walk for me but I always see this place poppin when I walk by. I tried it as soon as I moved in and I've been here multiple times since then because it's really great. The service is fast and the staff are very nice. I've had the fried cod and a burger and everything was super flavorful. They throw down in the kitchen making delicious food and I always walk past the kitchen on my way back to my apartment where it smells so good. They play football games on the tv's and it's very cozy to hang out and chat with everybody. Go lions!!! read more

Best Rueben I have had in a long time! And their cheese curds are awesome. A bit more variety on the tap list would be nice. It was very heavy on the IPAs, which I do enjoy, but in these winter months I lean toward stouts, porters and scotch ales. I saw a lot of comments on Yelp! about poor service, but we didn't have any such thing happen with us. Everyone was nice, and food was delivered quickly. Like a lot of comments on here we also thought it had a really nice and warm ambiance with it being in an old building and all the wood beams and such. We went on a Saturday night, looking for a place that took reservations, and this as establishment does. We sat out on the deck, and as others have said, it really has a nice ambience. There was live music, but it was at a noise level that was easy to still have conversation around the table. Our server was excellent and attentive, but not hovering. Everyone enjoyed the food. Three of our party got the fish and chips and said it was delicious. One friend got the steak, she can be a bit picky, and also agreed it was delicious. Another friend. Got the salmon and enjoyed it as well. I got the black and blue burger. Huge burger at a half a pound and such a great combination of flavors. My friend and I hadn't been here since last summer (it's May now...though 40° today!!) and stopped in for a bite and drink. Glad we did, their food menu is really nice , a good beer selection on tap, and the folks at the bar are friendly. Tonight we had Marian at the bar and she was so friendly and really enhanced our experience. I'm pretty easy to please on food so the atmosphere/vibe and the interaction with the staff really make the experience for me and on that front I recommend Brickyard, at least of you get the pleasure of Marian taking care of you. Good: liked the chili sauce Brussels sprouts; their burgers are quite substantial, and I've had their nachos before and liked them. Overall this is a nice place - oh, and great courtyard outdoor patio for summer! - that you can mix in a stop at City Built Brewing right down the road if you want, too. read more

BrickYard Tavern is a newly renovated restaurant and bar located inside of Boardwalk Condos on Monroe. They have a massive bar space, and lots of cozy tables and couches with a huge outdoor patio overlooking a pool. I went for the fish and chips and was surprised to see they offered either salmon or cod. As a creature of habit I chose the cod and it was absolutely delicious! I'm not a huge fan of their fries, but my boyfriend polished them off, so perhaps it was just me. Their buffalo chicken tenders are delicious too! The cocktails are stellar! I'm not a beer fan and feel a little trapped in beer city sometimes. They have not one but TWO long cocktail menus (staples and seasonal from $8-11) and everything we tried was delicious (about 6 different ones in our group). We had really great service from everyone at the bar, especially Chandler, and we are excited to come back! They have great happy hour specials, and happy hour all day on Thursdays! read more

We won't be back, and we were regulars for years who live in the neighborhood. - we were two of four people in the entire restaurant and waited well over an hour for our food - our chips and guac was made on the spot but was far from fresh and had no flavor. When we sent it back, they said they couldn't take it off the bill and we had to pay for it, even though we only ate one bite each - we ordered a second round of drinks that sat up on the bar for over 15 minutes before we had to go grab the drinks ourselves - the sandwich was supposed to come with chips -- the sandwich came out first and the chips nearly 15 minutes later and we had to go grab those from the bar ourselves as well - there was no manager on duty and staff just seemed lost Do not recommend. read more
