We settled in with a couple glasses of Raywood Cabernet Sauvignon while we waited for dessert. Looking around, it was easy to see why this place has become such a local favorite. The red-and-white checkered tablecloths, vintage family photos, and easygoing atmosphere make Boccali's feel like it's been woven into the community for decades. When the strawberry shortcake arrived, it was immediately clear why people make the drive. Fresh strawberries are piled generously over a warm shortcake and topped with an enormous cloud of fresh whipped cream. The contrast between the warm shortcake, cool whipped cream, and fresh berries made every bite memorable. Despite its impressive size, it never felt overly heavy. Boccali's has been serving this seasonal favorite since opening in 1986, and it's easy to see why it has become their signature dessert. One thing I especially appreciated is that it's only available during strawberry season. Knowing I was enjoying something that isn't on the menu year-round made the experience feel even more special. They bring our plates to the table, and my jaw literally dropped at the size of the portions. HUGE. The eggplant parmesan looked more like a lasagna and it was topped with cheese and marinara. Cutting to the chase, it was delicious, impossible to finish, and the eggplant was tender and breaded just right. That portion of eggplant became 3 more meals for me, and I can eat a lot. Worth every penny of that $25. The beef bourguignon was also delicious and the portion was very large as well. We wished we got it with the pasta instead of the rice, though. The leftovers her meal also provided a couple more meals, and the flavor holds up to reheating.
