Bowling Green Beer Works is a bit hard to find, and I suspect that the owners and regulars like it that way. The environment is very comfortable and laid back. Diverse and friendly crowd; when I was there, my drinking buddies were a family fresh out of church, a couple of broskis from the school, and a couple of black Hipster chicks also from BGSU (I honestly thought, for just a second, that the one girl was Zazie Beetz). I liked the vibe. In addition, two dogs, with their people, were also in the building; be sure that you don't step on a lying dog's tail while you're in here. Good music. Beer: 12 beers on tap. Great selection. There should be something for any palate. I would say, however, that if stouts and porters are your thing, you may be disappointed...at least at this time...the closest thing is BG's Big Brown. This is a smooth American Brown Ale. All in all, I tried 6 of their 12 beers and I liked every one. Hop heads may be disappointed as their hoppiest IPA tops out at 76 IBUs (if that). I normally hate wheat beer that's contaminated with fruit flavors, but BGBWs strawberry mango wheat was really good. No food is available, but you can bring food from anywhere, or you can have it delivered. Great place. 5 stars. read more

We were on a mission to gather as many tagabrews as we could from Ohio on this day. This resulted in many stops and many beers. This place was unique in that it had these great roll up doors so you could be outside but in. It was a gorgeous 75 and sunny day in Ohio. No rain today. So sitting outside makes this girl happy. This location was full of fun locals! He ordered a flight and I stuck to an Amber. They have food trucks on specific days and times here and the food looks aka smells delicious! The atmosphere was welcoming. The beer was smoothe and cold. My memory starts getting fuzzy around now. But this was a very fun place! Check it out! read more

Great microbrewery tucked away in a neighborhood setting. A small bar in a garage style taproom and also has a really nice outside area where you can enjoy your beers in the sun or shade. There is also an attached art gallery that is very worth the walk thru. The beers are the best part. Large selection on tap with something for everyone. The Simcoe IPA was my favorite. Probably the best description I've seen is "Speakeasy". Short of a peephole in the door and a secret knock, that word pretty much describes it. First of all you have to find it. You might have an address, but that only gets you so far. In the warmer months they open a pair of garage doors. In colder weather it looks more like a place your would drop off your car to have your alternator worked on. Oh, and by the way, it's tiny inside - a nano brewery. Now let's get to the beers: Everything I tried was excellent. These guys know what they're doing and the team working behind the bar are very knowledgeable about beer and super friendly. Now, there are a lot of good craft IPAs out there - their's is better. Served in a Mason jar pint glass (or available in a half Mason), you can't beat the flavor or freshness. They also fill growlers and offer specials on different nights of the week. If you're really into good, authentic craft brews, this is the place for the serious connoisseur - but you'll have to find it first! read more

In town for my daughters hockey and went to the Brewery with another parent. Thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, pretty chill with a great selection of beers. Really got a kick out of the menu and the bartender took great care of us. read more

I didn't realize Checkers moved in town! Who knew? The change in ownership has had a big impact on the ambience, clientele and the beer, itself. I visited this establishment for the first time on 20 May 2023 and must give my opinion because it left me very disturbed and disappointed in the staff. I came in and I was the only customer at about 1 pm. I had 3 beers. The drinks were outstanding but the lady behind the bar made me feel very uncomfortable. First, she was not very friendly and kept looking at her phone the whole time and was not interested in conversation at all. But when I did initiate a conversation about the building, and the business and beer, things finally seemed normal until I mentioned my personal preference in beer at home. I commented that I normally drink Hamm's beer at home and switched from Bud Light because of their price increase. I also mentioned that it was before the latest promotion featuring a LGBTQ person as a spokesperson which, as I commented, I am opposed to personally but think should be allowed in a free and open-minded society. From this point on, the employee gave me the cold shoulder and kept her face buried in her phone. I could tell she was upset. At that point I paid my $21 tab and got out. I left a $5 tip but did not even get a thank-you. TO THE BUSINESS OWNER - Jack and Doe's Pizza : I've eaten at your restaurants in Findlay many times and several of my relatives were employees of your business. When I go out to eat or drink and pay good money for food and beer I don't expect to be confronted about my personal political or social beliefs. When I finished paying my tab at the Bowling Green Beer Works, on departure, the employee made a point to tell me, "By the way, Hamm's Beer supports LGBTQ." Which explains why she had her face buried in her phone - researching about my personal beer preference. REALLY ?! It's teeny tiny and we visited on a really nice summer night. The rollup doors were open and folks were sitting on the patio. I could see how it could be a little tight when the weather isn't so nice and everyone's forced inside, but we just loved it! The beer is okay. Some was better than others. The garage door warehouse feel, the unmarked front door, the taps straight off the cooler, and the single bathroom. This is the roots of craft beer. No crazy gose or bourbon barrel aged beers here (yet), but solid imperial stout, IPA, coffee stout, brown, Scottish export, and blonde. Definitely worth the stop. Fantastic beer in a cozy, tucked-away neighborhood location. There is always something new to try, and I've never been let down. The focus is definitely the beer, but they do serve some fresh, locally-baked Bavarian pretzels. They seem to be cool with people bringing in food, but it always helps to ask before doing so. The clientele seems to be mainly locals, professors, and grad students. It's one of the few spots in BG not overrun by screaming 21 year olds. It's really exciting to see Beer Works blow up with business over the past year! Get down there and help them grow even more! read more

Located in a small storage facility behind the main drag of BG bars sits Bowling Green Beer Works. The sign is a little discreet, but since I was heading in during a cold winter night, the illumination of the "Open" sign led my way. There is a stone parking lot behind the building, and plenty of spaces available. The inside is small. There are two garage doors that can open when the weather cooperates to add a little bit more breathing room, but I'd say with the bar seats and tables, about 20-25 people can fit comfortably without standing. This is a tasting room, so you come for the home-brewed beer and cider, and you head to BG's other fabulous eateries to fill your stomach. As for the beer itself, I was very impressed. For a small brewery that's only open on Friday/Saturday, I expected only about 3-4 beers on tap with maybe a seasonal mixed in. I was pleasantly surprised to see 8 beers available, and it would have been 9 if not for a mad rush the day before. For a relatively new craft beer area, this is a good place to start. They offered a blonde, pale ale, stout, porter, an india pale ale, a black india pale ale, a cider, and a seasonal. As per my usual when heading to a new brewery, I ordered a flight to see what was my favorite offering. They hadn't yet created flight paddles, so the samples came in their regular full mason jars. As a result, the pours were quite generous. Lucky me! The stars of the show for me were the Wit Christmas (a spicy Wit beer), the black IPA, and surprisingly enough, the blonde. It's difficult to make a blonde that appeals to a palate that craves hops, but this was smooth, flavorful, and easily drinkable. My wife really enjoyed the medium-dry cider, which the brewer told us is less sweet as a result of not adding sugar at the conclusion of the brewing process. Overall, it was a great experience. We showed up toward the end of the night but were welcomed with open arms. Over time I expect a bit more adventurous brews, but was very impressed with what was offered. Definitely worth a visit. Pair it with some Mr. Spots Fire Steak... it's a nice combo. read more

I keep calling this the "awesome speakeasy brewery," as the first time I was invited here I was told I needed to go with someone who had been there "otherwise you'll never find it." Sure enough, when we pulled into what looked like a driveway of a storage facility and pulled up to two garage doors open with a bar inside I was amazed! The beer is great- I came from Cincinnati and I easily compare it to Rhinegeist's hoppy and delicious style. The atmosphere is also great- it's not usually filled with newly minted 21 year olds but often times you'll find professors at the university, graduate students, or community members there having a quiet conversation. Since the space is quite small, it's easily filled, but it's always worth stopping by! read more

Tiny, intimate, friendly, noisy (when crowded - which doesn't take much), lovely place for an excellent selection of artisan beers. Some beverages better than others, but enough variety for everyone, including a fine cold brew nitro coffee. No food, no kids, no pets, they ain't got no cigarettes. This place was so unique. It is in a neighborhood and looks like you are going into someone's garage. The beer selection is great, they brew all their own beer. We had the burning couch (red ale), kolche, and the brown. They were all awesome. Staff was friendly and I would recommend this place. Small, but unique. Average for a small local nano taproom, which is to say fun, friendly, and rustic with solid brews. I find I have to scale reviews of taprooms more intently now because of the sheer number and variety, so three stars is not at all a criticism. Went to grab drinks with friends this evening. We understand times are different with covid, HOWEVER they gave preferential treatment to certain groups when it can it social distancing and seating. We had a group of three and were asked to relocate because of social distancing...mind you..a group of three...we walked by several groups of 6+ people outside that were seated all within their "6 foot guidelines". Definitely worth the search. Watch for the OPEN sign in the winter months. They have a wide variety but if you like porters, the teleporter is great. The Big Brown is nice too but not a porter. The friendly staff and regulars make this place worth the search. read more
