This place was absolutely awesome. It's right in downtown Springfield. We meant to go for just a…read morebeer or two, and stayed for wait longer. The bartenders were fantastic and the atmosphere there is exactly what I want out of an Irish pub. I wish I'd taken pictures, but I got carried away with having such a good time that we forgot. We also ended up finishing a bottle of Jameson by paying for four shots, and got to sign it! (That's a tradition --- finish a Jameson bottle, sign it, and they put it on the wall). I'm very honored to have my name inside a Springfield institution. My wife used to live in Springfield, and this is one of her favorite spots. So we will definitely be back!

I just want to make a post about the horrible experience we just had at JP Kelly's. Our whole…read morefamily went in there to drink after the farmers market. I brought my dog, as he is well behaved. We saw the same corgis at buzz bomb-everyine was chills after a few barks He was just fine at Buzz Bomb, where we came from. There were other dogs at Buzz bomb and of course some barking took place then everyone was friends. NO PROBLEMS!! K? Keep that in your back pocket while reading this. Our family decided to go to JPs. Clyde didnt make a sounds the entire time. Multiple people came up to me saying how good of a boy he was being. He was minding his business. This couple with 2 corgis comes in, same people from buzz bomb, and obviously my dog is interested as is theirs. Their dog barked first*****, so mine barked after, duh. So a bartender came up to us (group of 10-12) and said if my dog barked again, we needed to leave. I asked another bartender why because the other couples dog barked first and his response was "well they come in weekly" ahhhh sooo it's okay since they patron there often and we don't as much. Although, their dog started it everytime?? So I was saying goodbye to my family and ANOTHER bartender came up saying we had to leave and don't come back. TRUST!!! We won't!! AFTER clyde and I left, the bartender told my brother in law that he told us to leave 3x which literally did not happen!! He told me the one time and we left. So please!! Roll the footage on that one I would love to see it. The bartender tried fighting my brother in laws dad after nasty comments were made about my niece.

Buzz Bomb will get you buzzed real good…read more While Emily and I were sitting at Custom Cup Coffee, we were trying to figure out what was in the area that we could walk around to and get some food and a drink. While I made a general list of stuff to do in Springfield, we wanted to see what this part of Springfield had to offer. Buzz Bomb was on my list of places to check out and conveniently, it was about a 5 minute walk away. So, we took our coffees and hit the pavement. Emily and I were greeted by some very friendly bartenders and we took a seat at the bar and got to looking at their beer selection. Emily sampled two of their beers while I ordered the Nanner, Nanner, Nanner. She sampled my beer after her two samples and immediately ordered what I got. It's a hefenweizen that doesn't taste quite like a normal hefe. Usually, Emily can't stand a hefe but really liked this one. I thought it was decent but tasted like if someone who never had a hefe would make if they tried to replicate one. I ended up having two 5oz glasses of it while Em had just the one in the 40 or so minutes we were here. I've seen Buzz Bomb stickers at other breweries so it was nice to finally get to check them out. What I wasn't expecting was Buzz Bomb to be coated head-to-toe in stickers. Everywhere you looked, you'd see at least a handful of stickers on the walls, ceiling, cabinets, cooler, all over the bathroom and anywhere else you could put a sticker. The bartender hooked us up with a few stickers for our collection and then told us a lot of corny dad jokes. She was a hoot and helped make our time here really fun. She was also great at letting us know all the fun activities going on in Springfield during the summer. Unfortunately, we had to move on to the next spot as we were both hungry and didn't want the beer to hit too hard. That means Buzz Bomb is good for a spot of drinking but if you want food, you'll either have to go upstairs to the Korean BBQ place or pick out one of the many places in the area to eat. I'll definitely be back in the near future to grab a shirt (and more beer)

Triple B is my second brewery today and my 299th overall. Stick with me and I'll hit 300 today. I…read morecan already tell Triple B is going to be a good stop. It's a hope in the wall kinda place with a really cool lighting fixture on the wall made out of pipes. Drop everything and go check it out! Not a lot of people here yet at 4:45 on a Friday but a few. Good music was playing and the gent at the bar hooked me up with a flight. I just told him to give me the best they've got and hopefully he did. We will find out together... The Barfight Brown Ale was up first. This is an American brown ale. This one took me back a little to the old days which got me into brewing when Pete's Wicked Ale was big. Nice brown with a bit more kick than your English milds. Helles Bound and Down is a very nice Helles lager. Not much else to say. True to style and tasty. Pennyweight Amber ale was next and honestly I didn't love it. It wasn't terrible by any means it just didn't speak my language. Last up was Walk of Shame a milkshake IPA which is a style I often enjoy. I liked this one, although it seemed a little light in flavor for a milkshake IPA. Of course it might just be my palate. Triple B is serving up some great beers. I also happened to be in just a few days after a big fire right across the street. Triple B was pulling together donations for the businesses and people affected which is so good to see. We spend far too much time arguing over politics and BS differences and not enough on what we have in common. Sad that it takes a tragedy to pull so many of us out of it. If anyone is a glutton for punishment, please, follow my brewery, and distillery, reviews from across the U.S. and beyond! https://www.yelp.com/collection/-8iscFkpiiCI563-FDfwGg and if anyone is wondering who SWPFTD is you will have to check out my review of Black Market Brewing Co in Temecula, CA to understand. Yes, you will need to read into it a little to get the joke but I have confidence in you! I hope my confidence is not misplaced.

While staying in Springfield, Illinois, where Abraham Lincoln built much of his life and career, I…read morehad dinner at The Globe Tavern & Restaurant, located inside the President Abraham Lincoln Springfield - a DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in downtown Springfield. On a Monday night, this isn't a tourist-heavy spot. The atmosphere felt very much like a working dinner environment, with nearby tables engaged in animated and colorful conversations about what sounded like upcoming Illinois legislative meetings. It gave the whole experience a unique, real-time connection to the state capital just steps away. After a heavier meal earlier in the day, I decided to go lighter and ordered the crabcake bites from the small plates section and made them my dinner. The menu is clearly set up to support that kind of choice, and pairing them with a fresh side salad turned out to be a great call. The salad was crisp, well-prepared, and a solid complement to the meal, with dressing served on the side. The crabcake bites themselves were excellent and worked well as a smaller, satisfying dinner when combined with the salad. This is a practical option if you're not looking for a full heavy entrée but still want something quality. Overall, this is a convenient and well-executed dining option right inside the hotel, especially for anyone staying nearby or doing business around the Illinois State Capitol. The combination of solid food, efficient service, and a uniquely "Springfield" atmosphere made for a very enjoyable evening. The Globe Tavern & Restaurant 701 E Adams St Springfield, IL 62701

Instead, I got a plastic container (hello toxic emissions, that thing is NOT intended for hot food) with soup blopped in it that looked like it had been pulled out of the freezer. To add insult to injury, the cutlery packet included in the bag (fork, knife, napkin, salt, pepper... um... it's kind of missing something important for the consumption of SOUP... the pack had been opened and the spoon removed, then I guess they threw the opened pack back in with the rest of the packs. Lucky me). The soup was just under $10, so plus tax & tip it wound up close to $15. I had to drink it from the plastic container because I was not, after a 12 hour journey, trudging back downstairs to get myself a damn spoon. And I asked for a roll or a slice of bread... and got a couple of packets of stale crackers. Really, really unimpressed.
