So Good!!! We were just passing through Richmond and stumbled upon this gem! I'll just say that my friends and are are kind of picky and one is allergic to almost everything edible. Decided to take an early morning walk to discover the neighborhood and get some coffee. We came upon this establishment and it was excellent choice. We met the owner who made our coffee and gave us the history of the neighborhood and the business. Lots of interesting and rich history of the Manchester neighborhood. There was a steady flow of patrons coming in and out as we talked and you could tell that everyone knew each other. We loved the environment and will definitely return when we are back in the area. I finally had the chance to visit Brewer's Café. As a southside native, I loved everything about the space the playlist, the ambience, the coziness of the Café. The inside was really small and a bit cluttered--not the kind of place I'd want to relax with my coffee and a book but that was fine because I was in search of breakfast. The golden milk latte was perfection and unlike Starbucks, was mostly the beverage I ordered and NOT ice. Kudos on that! I'm always trying to find great coffee places in my travels for kids sports. My last morning in Richmond for swim took me to Brewers Cafe. The woman who was working was absolutely lovely. My go to latte is usually something floral or cardamom, but she recommended their signature so I went with that. It was equally lovely, not too sweet with a dash of cinnamon. I believe this is a newish spot for them. They are sure to be the neighborhood hang out spot! read more

I ordered breakfast through Yelp 25 minutes in advance, but when I arrived, they only started preparing it. I understand if it were fast food like McDonald's, but this café isn't a fast food chain, food takes a longer time to prep there's no quick service, so I don't see the point of ordering ahead if they only start making it when I arrive. The café is very small, and there was no air conditioning that day, so I was sweating while waiting patiently with my dog for quite a while. I ordered the sourdough bread with bacon and egg. The bread was unbelievably hard, almost like it had dried out completely--every fiber was stiff. The bacon wasn't crispy; it was just extremely tough. The quality didn't match the price, which was over $8. The hazelnut latte was decent, though it didn't really taste like hazelnut, but at least it was worth the price. Half an hour later, I realized my gums were sore and bleeding, and I was confused because I hadn't eaten anything hot recently. Then it hit me--it was from the bread I had earlier. I understand that a small café might be trying its best, and I did notice they offer fresh juices, but the price just doesn't match the quality. Unfortunately, this experience wasn't pleasant, and I probably won't return. read more

Brewer's Cafe had a tent at the South of the James Farmer's Market! We stopped by for some coffee but ended up picking up some waffle sticks! They look absolutely amazing. However they tasted okay. It was a little hard to eat because of the skewer and there wasn't much beyond a traditional waffle. The chocolate drizzle and powdered sugar were good but there just wasn't enough. It was also super light for the price! I'd definitely would want to try out some of the other flavors at the actual shop though! read more

This was a pleasant surprise because I thought I was meeting my friend at the original location, until I was told I was on the wrong street lol! I love the new location on Hull Street because it's much bigger. When I walked in, my ears were greeted with good music from a whole DJ up on the stage. I was pleasantly surprised!!! The setup definitely gave me cafe style feels. We were able to seat ourselves anywhere. There was a QR code on the table to scan and pull and order from the menu. It displayed our table number where the waitress would bring out our order. Meanwhile, the DJ is playing a good mix of hip hop and r&b, new and oldies but goodies. It was definitely a good vibe the entire time. So, I ordered the mocha latte with a shot of hazelnut, and the Exit 73 veggie breakfast panini. Our waitress brought it out about 15 mins later. She was really sweet and patient in our asks of certain things (nothing too crazy or over the top). The latte was perfect in its taste for me because it was not too sweet. It gave me the perk I needed. Now...for the veggie breakfast panini I was not a fan. I requested it be grilled for me with butter to melt down the cheese and give it a little more oomph. It was just too plain, cold, and dry for my liking. I wouldn't order it again unless it was made that way, and with more sauce/pesto and grilled veggies. That's where I took the one star. The lemonade pitcher we were able to add tequila to it and it was fresh and worth the $20! Overall, the ambiance was great with the staff being friendly and personable, the music giving good vibes, and the drinks had me lifted. I always look forward to seeing the owner's wife, and their cute baby on her hip while she manages the services; all with a smile and grace. Kudos to her I did come back on taco Tuesday for the crab cake tacos, and they did not disappoint. I visited a few weeks later for Thursday open mic night, and let me just say it's been a good time every time I have come to Brewer's. read more

I am glad that brewers was able to make a come back, I've been to the original location and the Hull st one that they had for a little bit. Honestly, I like the smaller (original/current) location better. They have a lot of great food options in addition to their expansive drink menu. I love that they have vegetarian options and breakfast all day. This is their second location, on Hull Street, about a block over from the original location. It's fun! They got coffee and sandwiches, bagels, pastries, teas, juices, etc. Today they even had a DJ in there playing all kinds of music, everything from Mary J Blige to Jay-Z to Armand van Helden. I got a coffee and bagel sandwich for 10 bucks and both were really really good. Okay I am just going to say one thing, and if everyone wants to shoot me down, whatever. But this is a black-owned business, right? Well this is the third time I've been here, and there's always white people behind the counter. Black workers too, but more often white. It just seems like a lot of white employees for a black-owned business... Not a knock against it, just an observation. It's a fun place and I'll definitely be back! read more

The owners, husband and wife, were so friendly to everyone and a couple was singing when we walked in. It had a feel good family vibe and they greeted us on entry, ensuring a good first impression. The roast beef sandwiches were served on sourdough bread and delicious! They have fresh press juice , yum. The coffee was on point, no cream or sugar needed, not to mention organic fair trade, and I even snagged the last bag of whole beans to go. Parking was easy and free. I was not expecting something as basic as a breakfast bagel to taste SO GOOD! I got the everything bagel with avocado, tomato, arugula and veggie sausage. I almost ordered a second one! Stopped in here about a week ago in the early morning to get a couple of sandwiches for lunch. The hubs wanted the roast beef, and I'm a sucker for a good Reuben! I asked the young man at the counter if he recommended the Reuben Sandwich here which lead us to a fun little conversation about how he had his first Reuben at the age of ten. He's now in is 20s so I would consider him to be somewhat of an expert if he's been eating them for 10 years or more. The corned beef was sliced thin and piled high! There was not a single chewy bite! The hubs and I split half our sandwiches so I got to try the roast beef too. My new dilemma will be which sandwich will I order next time I go. I really wanted to love this place because it is in a cute growing area of Richmond. I had to study for an exam and was looking for a nice cafe to settle down and concentrate. This place had great reviews so I was so excited to give my support to a local cafe. I ordered a bottled lemonade and the total was $6 with tip. I cringed a little at the price but I'm not complaining because I am happy to support. 20 minutes into studying with just me and a lady who is reading at the other side of the cafe, they started blaring loud music. I can usually tune cafe music out with my own headphones but the music was so loud, it was impossible. 5 minutes of trying hard to just ignore the loud music, I left with a bad taste in my mouth.
