I stopped in the Breakfast Nook a couple of weeks ago and thought it was great....great service and food, BUT we were the only customers in the place at the time. Well, I stopped in this past weekend, the place was busy and the service sucked.... I sat at a dirty table for 15 minutes without anyone even acknowledging me.... I ended up walking out. Only one girl waiting on tables and some BIG guy behind the counter yelling at another customer about taking a D&D coffee in with him. I could hear the other customer say "good thing I have it because I've been sitting here for 10 minutes and haven't received any service yet". I'm not blaming the one girl waiting tables, I blame the person who won't hire more people and the guy behind the counter (not sure if he owns the place or not) who clearly wasn't helping customers. read more

Very good. We stopped in before camp. My daughter had a huge chocolate chip pancake that she loved. I had the bagel which with a side of corned beef hash. Corned beef hash was the best I have had in a while! Very friendly fast service with a smile! Will be back! read more

This is my favorite breakfast place. I go here whenever I get the chance. Their home fries are seriously the best around. They have an awesome flavor and aren't dull and bland like a lot of places. Their customer service is what you'd expect from a little place like this, but it's not a big deal because the food is good. It comes out fast and hot which is always nice. My boyfriend loves their French toast and raspberry pancakes. Another great thing about this place is how cheap it is, they don't accept cards for orders under 10$ though. Outstanding..... The best breakfast place around. Nice sized portions, always cooked to order, fast service, and the servers, Corinne and Tina, are amazing. Friendly and fun to joke around with. Sit at the counter and enjoy a nice conversation with the patrons.... It's like being at Cheers... The Breakfast Nook is an adorable little find on 126 in Bellingham. The food is nothing out of the ordinary--this is breakfast, after all--but they cook it well. The service has always been prompt and polite for us. Inside, the space is warm and cozy, and the houseplants, country curtains, and wall hangings almost make you feel like you are eating at Mom's kitchen counter. Seating is limited, but table turnover is pretty quick--standard for any breakfast/luncheonette. The prices are extremely reasonable and a full breakfast here is one of the best deals for breakfast around. As for aforementioned criticisms, I think it comes down to expectations. Maybe in the city you would find joints with tofu scrambles or soy yogurt. But this is a very traditional greasy spoon, and breakfast is not traditionally a vegan-friendly meal (eggs, pancakes, cheese omelettes, hello). I don't think the Breakfast Nook falls short of any reasonable expectations for the kind of establishment it is: hot, affordable, tasty food served quickly and politely. read more

I've been here a few times and previously enjoyed the biscuits and gravy (even if they aren't like "real" Southern biscuits and gravy), but I'll never be back due to the rude management and gross chef interpretations of classic meals. Like I said, the biscuits and gravy has an odd twist from what I grew up eating, but that's nothing compared to their attempt at making eggs benedict with their thick, cheez-whiz like sauce instead of hollandaise. It's so bad our waitress warned us about it and had the sauce put a different dish when we decided to order it...we should have taken her warning to heart. If you like homemade corned beef hash, you're also in for a treat as they supposedly make it from scratch. However, for some reason their recipe seems to come with about 500x the amount of salt usually present in hash. Corned beef hash is a staple in these parts that we've made and eaten many times so we know when it tastes like a Morton's Salt box exploded above their cook top. However, the kicker is, if you complain to the manager that your food is inedible without upping your high blood pressure pills after you've only eaten one bite of it, you'll be rudely and loudly explained to that it's how they make it and if you don't pay for it you won't be allowed back in the restaurant. No, "wups, that must taste gross" or "sorry for serving you inedible food"--and it's $6 for about a cup and a half of the dry and cold salt lick by the way. Instead, you're made to feel like you're trying to steal the shirt off their backs and should just shut up and eat your salt like everyone else. $35 for a breakfast for two and the rude, pathetic attempt at customer service have made me strike off this once promising diner from my go-to places. read more

I feel like I need to start this review by explaining that my Girlfriend Woke up this morning, after only ever having been here 1 time saying "I want to Go to the breakfast nook!" Our First experience here we got here roughly 10 minutes from their closing time. Having been in the Restaurant business for 15 years I recognized that this was a party foul and told them I would take a menu and Come back another time. The waitress on was an older woman, she insisted we stay and treated us like royalty. We asked if they had Iced Coffee and they did not.(Thinking back on it now I would assume they were out of Iced Coffee being that close to closing) I asked if I could grab my girlfriends Iced Coffee and they were completely fine with it. I am mentioning this because of Our experience today. I called to make sure they were open, I was told "YUP!" then hung up on. I didn't think too much of this because I assumed they were busy. Upon Arriving a sweet little blonde girl sat us and got our drinks. My girlfriend Requested a water being that she had her iced coffee with her. When the waitress walked up she immediately before even saying hello said "Its our policy not to allow outside Beverages into the restaurant. You will have to put that in your car." When I tried to respond and explain the last time we were here they allowed she interrupted me, (Before I could Apologize mind you) And Made us aware of the sign on the Door that said No outside food or beverage. I'm aware I am a hot head. Most of the time Poor Customer service is something that sets me off. So I am aware that at this point after being interrupted I would not have been the most pleasant person. I explained to her that we had dogs in the car, and we weren't putting the coffee in the car, so we could either leave or we could forget about the coffee. She then Stormed off like a 4 year old who didn't get her way and spoke to the manager. The manager(Who never even addressed that there was a problem mind you,) Clearly explained to her that it was not a big deal and asked her to drop it because she came over... Reminded us of the policy then asked us for our order. My girlfriend asked how the Cornbeef Hash came... Her Response? "ON A PLATE" I'm not going to even bother going into the rest of her Failures as an agent of customer service, I feel this CLEARLY represents what I'm trying to get across. The point of my review is simple. This Restaurant is fine, this specific Server is the issue. If you decide to go here ask not to be served by the tall bulimic looking brunette with the bad attitude. And if the breakfast nook reads this? Please explain that "Your Policies" are not ever important enough to argue with a customer. Your pride doesn't earn you tips........ which is the ENTIRE reason you are working there. read more

The worst breakfast EVER!!! My waitress was nice. I ordered my eggs over easy. My eggs were served to me brown and hard in the center. When I called another waitress over to ask for my waitress, she told me she could help me. I explained the problem with the eggs. She immediately had an attitude and told me sure i could get more eggs but I'd have to pay for them!!! We told her never mind. My "nice" waitress did finally come over and explained to me that the grill was "hot". It gets that way later on in the day. No apologies for the rude one. No manager. Still, no new eggs. They did not take the eggs off of my bill, nor did they offer a free breakfast next time or any kind of compensation. She only said, "I hope you guys come back". Not on your life!!! The Breakfast Nook is by far my favorite restaurant in the area for that all important first meal of the day. What keeps me coming back is not the amazing homemade corn beef hash, or the fact that the generous portions are reasonably priced. What keeps me coming back is the wait staff, particularly the staff on weekdays. They are always kind and attentive (I never have to ask for a refill on my coffee). My only complaint is the place is always packed on the weekends, hard to even get a seat at the bar. As far as I'm concerned that that only speaks to their service and quality of food. I would recommend this place for all your breakfast needs, try the Hash Benedict you wont be disappointed. read more

My 78 yr old mother went there for lunch with my aunt and ordered the clam strips. The majority of them were burnt so she didn't eat them. When she told the waitress she called the manager over. The manager told my mother that is the way they cook them and since she ordered them she will have to pay for them! She didn't even eat them! They never offered to make her something else. Way to take advantage of an elderly woman, you must be so proud. Hope that $6 was worth it because everyone I know will hear about this. This place has the dubious distinction of being the place with the worst customer service I've ever had in my entire life. Their "policies" allow for the waitress to verbally abuse you. Then their "policies" allow for the waitress to treat you like a moron when you ask about an item that's NOT EVEN ON THE MENU. Then when you ask the waitress to please lose their attitude she huffs away. Unfortunately there wasn't anyone else available to serve us so we were stuck with her and her caked on eyeliner. After we finish she brings the check, I pay with my credit card, and she brings back the receipt and says, I'll give you the card back when you sign. Um no? You'll give me the card now or I won't sign. And she says verbatim "sorry but this is another of our policies I follow". What restaurant on earth has that ploicy?? Does she think I'm not going to pay? No, I'm going to pay, but no chance am I leaving a tip. Never again. I don't care how good their homemade hash is. This is my new favorite breakfast place! From the outside it looks like a tiny house. Inside is pretty standard diner and the coffee is whatever, but that's where the mediocrity ends. Our waitress was a sweet motherly lady. The grilled cornbread was to die for. The cornbeef hash was really good. The home fries were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft inside with really tasty seasoning - probably the best home fries I've ever had. Funny to read some of the negative reviews. Yes, the place is crowded as heck on Sunday mornings and there can be a very long wait. Parking can get mighty tough too at times. The parking lot is very small. No, this is not a vegan restaurant... deal with it folks! Truth is that this is a small breakfast and lunch spot that is extremely popular with the locals... and there is a very good reason for that. The food is pretty darn good and the prices are more than reasonable for what you get. That sort of thing leads to crowds and long waits at certain times. It's just the nature of the beast. Anyway, I always enjoy going there despite the crowds. If I need to eat in a major rush on a Sunday morning, I'll simply go elsewhere. read more

Was told today I am not to come back unless i take down a review i wrote a yr ago. Was driving by and decided to try it again today and the manager came up to my table after I ate and said I remember you as the one who made the bad review your not to come back unless you take down the review!!! I have never heard of such a thing. I wrote an honest review about being charged for something I didn't eat cause it tasted bad so I asked for something else then was charged for both at end of meal and was told that there boss makes them do it even tho they know it's not right that's all and said they should inform there customers that they will be charged so they can make the decision if they even want to order something else. Manager should have said I'm happy you came back to try us again I hope you like it but nope instead told us not to come back unless we take down review.
