I have not yet tried the food but I will tell you the desserts are amazing ! Buttery and sugary. The must try is the millionaire bars. They are dark chocolate and caramel. Yum yum. I have visited this place a couple times in the last two months. The first time was for an almond milk latte with one pump of syrup. While I did greatly appreciate that they use ceramic mugs instead of paper if you choose, I was disappointed in how it almost cost $10 for a nondairy latte. The second time I went I ordered a chai latte and found out they use the mix instead of making it from chai tea. Disappointing from a place that demands premium pricing. I ordered a chai tea instead and the water was so hot I had to order ice. I was with a little kid who also got a chai and disappointed they didn't offer that to him and instead gave me what I consider scalding hot water in a cup with a tea bag. Staff was friendly. I went to Unlikely Story in Plainville and got a chai latte made from real tea with almond milk under $6 last week. So again the prices at this Bakery are premium. I am willing to pay for premium if that is what I am getting and while the first time I got a latte it was tasty but I still am disappointed at the price point. The second time I went I sat at the bar in front of the espresso machine and was grossed out at how dusty the top of the machine is... because they have their to-stay mugs upside down on top of it. There was a layer of dust and there were dust bunnies hanging off it in my direction. There was a bit of dried splattered milk on it too. Basically, they need to clean that and it was not the type of dust that was just there for a week. Got a scone that I wasn't sure was either day old or overcooked either way I needed a sip of tea to get it down and I did not finish it because it just wasn't that great. Pretty sure the scone was over $5. While I want so badly to support a small business like theirs I don't think I will be back until I know they clean the machine more frequently. read more

A high quality pastry always makes me happy and ESPECIALLY out in the suburbs. This is one of the best cafes I've been to in the area. Lots of seating, clean, great drinks (I had an iced matcha.) Their dessert selection looks SO good and I got the quiche while my husband picked a sandwich that he said was "the best sandwich I've had in awhile." He said he'd get it again next time. This place is super cute! We came here on our way out of Boston before our drive home for a quick coffee and breakfast sandwich to fuel us for our long drive back to Buffalo! These breakfast sandies were so good! I wish I had a pic of the rheubarb pastries I brought back home because they were soooooo so good. Latte was the only thing that was a little disappointing, I tried the lavender honey and it didn't taste anything like either. Maybe just a fluke. Service was very friendly. We came around closing time today to pick up some sweets for our ride home. We were hoping to nab some cinnamon buns this bakery is known for, but since we were coming right at closing time, we did not have high hopes the buns were in stock. Alas, the cinnamon buns were sold out, no big surprise there. However, there was still a numerous assortment of delicious looking bakery items to chose from. I would like to compliment the bakery on making so many sweets and having all of them look spot on. That is really hard to do. I was impressed! We bought the apple pie bar and millionaires bar. The apple pie bar should have been warmed but since it was closing time I didn't make a fuss. The millionaires bar so insanely delicious. I wish I had ordered two more to go. As you can see from the picture I took, I couldn't make to eat it :) I ordered a cortado with oat milk as well and it was good. It wasn't the best cortado I have had. The coffee could have been better, but it tasted like a cortado and for that I was grateful. read more

Did I just find my new go to breakfast place????This is more than just a bakery! What an amazing spot, I am so glad I found this place as it is going to become my new breakfast spot! The variety of baked goods, breakfast choices and even lunch is endless. The food was so fresh and cooked perfectly. We tried a few things and everything was delicious. Frittata was great, not dry as some can be. The smoked salmon breakfast sandwich was fresh and lite in the best way. The croissants were so delicious. Coffee was brewed to perfection! The outdoor seating is in between an alley way and building so enough shade and has cute garden boxes so the atmosphere is so relaxing. The staff was extremely helpful since it was our first time in trying to decided what we wanted to eat. Loved that this is a place to do take away or sit down with real plates and silverware. It's has a cafe vibe but upscale and relaxing. This might be the first time at Birchwood Bakery and Kitchen but it will 100% not be my last. read more

Welcomed addition to the area - the bakery isn't just a bakery. It has a full service bar with cocktails and also dishes out some lovely sandwiches and salads. Didnd't see any soups but everything we had was delicious, including the cappuccino martini ($14) which wasn't too sweet and hit the spot. I wanted to turn the car around and grab another one! Unfortunately the funfetti cookie was super dry with no flavor and the scone was one of the worst I have ever had. Was hungry and in the area when I decided to try this place. I saw the previous reviews and thought, why not! Immediately upon walking in, the vibe was very fun and friendly. There were many people sitting enjoying their time with friends or family. Other patrons were studying. The staff was incredibly friendly and answered all of my questions. Simply divine! Fantastic food! Excellent, friendly service. Thoroughly enjoy coming here. The staff is always so so knowledgeable about the menu, and they do everything with a smile. The sandwiches are so so good!! A bit on the pricey side, but well worth it and incredibly filling. The baked goods are lovely as well. The only thing I didn't like was the maple syrup lemonade. The food and coffee are good. But operationally, the place is not good. One item is done, the next item doesn't come out until you're done eating the first thing. Should take 4-6 minutes, and it takes twice that long. Item is done, but it isn't what you ordered, etc., etc. They need an operations manager who can fix things up. I have gone here quite a few times mid-morning, and it's a comfy place to get good coffee, fresh baked snacks, then do some work. I stopped by over the weekend for the first time, and it seemed very chaotic. There was the regular line to order. There was another line to pick up call-in/online orders it seemed. A few times staff yelled out names, but nobody seemed to respond to receive the order. I heard a man saying he ordered coffee online, but the barista didn't make it until he came in - (which seems the opposite of what an online order is for???). Overall a great spot, lots of parking around the downtown area. Maybe they have gotten so busy they need to re-work some aspects, but I will stick around for it! read more

While visiting Franklin for a few weeks, I happened upon Birchwood Bakery and so enjoyed my spinach quiche that I came back two days later for a second taste- and to try a maple spice scone- YUM! My intent was to bring back half to share with my husband but couldn't quite make that happen. (He did get some...). Back again today for their ONLY ON SUNDAY cinnamon donut- that I learned about from another customer! I did not share this all. Fabulous. So good, I have to do cardio twice before eating one again. Lovely staff and environment. Everyone there, including customers, seemed at peace just being there. And, yes, I was recognized as a return customer on my second visit. My boss bought our team lunch and wow! The prices are in line with other lunch/cafe spots, but the quality blows others away. Here is a pic of my winter beet salad and veggie fritatta. Today I'm getting the same salad, but going for the quiche if the day (I'm sure it will be delicious whater it is).
