Amazing decorated cookies and cupcakes. The bouquets are unbelievable and delicious! Arlene's custom cakes make every occasion special. Everything is homemade from "scratch." We stopped into the shop before zipping over to the train station for a ride to downtown Boston. There are always special treats in the cases. Last Saturday we went to pick up our Daughter's birthday cake. I had called a few weeks in advance to place our order. I had given the bakery a picture for the cake decorator to follow and paid over the phone in full. When my Husband went to pick up our cake at the agreed upon time the cake wasn't ready. I had asked the girl on the phone if they could make the cake that I had a PInterest picture of and if it could be completed for a pick up time between 10-11am. I was told that they absolutely could copy the cake that I had requested and that the time for pick up was no problem. However, when my husband went to pick up the cake @ 2pm he was told it "wasn't finished yet". The owner Arlene came out and instead of apologizing for the cake not being ready for pick up, she argued with my husband. She stated that based on our conversation that she had told me that the pick up time would be just before closing. Problem was Arlene and I never had any communication, none! I had spoken with a young girl on the phone. Also, the cake did not look anything like my picture I had submitted to their website. I made it look more attractive by adding my own candles and a glittery sign that had been made special on ETSY wishing a Happy 20th birthday to my Daughter. The only positive thing I can say about the cake was it tasted delicious! That was my saving grace! It was a lemon cake with vanilla buttercream frosting. The cake itself was super moist and the taste was amazing! For $50 I would have expected the cake to look as close to my picture as possible. If they had said they couldn't duplicate the cake in my picture I would have asked for something else. I was very disappointed that it wasn't anything like the picture I submitted and for the expense I would have thought it would have been ready on time. Instead of apologizes, we were given many excuses. Would I go there again, probably not. read more

I was on my way to Hometown Bakery to order a cake for my husband's surprise birthday party. Somehow the design on the cake jumped into my head as I was walking through the door of the bakery to place my order. When I met my husband 26 years ago, he was a cranberry farmer, so I thought a cake decorated as a cranberry bog would be great fun, especially since his old boss was going to be at the party too. I described the bog to the baker. She had a couple of little toy machines (backhoe and bulldozer) that she added to it. And I have to say I have never tasted such a delicious cake in all my life. First of all, Arlene's cakes are so delicious. I love her lemon cake and special carrot cake. Both flavors are the best I've ever had, and I go to a lot bakeries both locally and when I travel. She is extremely flexible and has made me cakes with less than a week's notice. She can even do gluten free and has made me six gluten free cupcakes for my brother when I order a big cake.
