Plenty of mix ins

The raisin cinnamon walnut loaf was well made, plenty of raisins and walnuts throughout. Very pricy, pictured is the small loaf, $5.50! A full sized loaf is $9.75! The storefront is quaint, standing room only. Street parking readily available. Staff is friendly and there wasn't too much of a wait.

The vegan pumpkin cookie was not very sweet but had good pumpkin flavor. The cinnamon claw was only 95 cents but also had the same dry stale plain bread underneath cloying white frosting that you get at Pizza Hut only it didn't even have all the cinnamon sugar all over it. The vegan chocolate chip cookie was entirely unremarkable. I bought a $6.95 loaf of their softest bread per the employee helping me along with a $12.95 (!!!) bottle of dipping oil. It is very soft white bread and the dipping oil has a lot of fresh tasting herbs.

Amazing little bakery in Lakewood! They have street parking that is free & is within walking distance of a lot of other Lakewood staples. They have a wide selection of breads, muffins and bakery. I noticed they also offer other Cleveland goodies such as hot sauce, granola and bags of coffee. Be sure to stop by if you need any fresh bakery, the line is normally long but moves quick (that's how great they are!).

Nothing beats the smell of fresh bread. Considering how many types of bread this place bakes, it's fantastic. I popped in to get a loaf of sourdough and walked out with that plus their Asiago Baguette. I will say $6.50 for the baguette seems expensive but it was good and I'm never in the area so why not. They have some breads that they sell on specific days so check out their website for the monthly menu. Apart from bread they sell some sweet loaves, cookies, etc. I'm definitely coming back!

Multigrain loaf, mini monkey bread, chocolate chip cookie, and Andes mint chocolate cookie. (Butter and jam are from Nature's Oasis)

First time in and it was difficult picking out only a few items to take home because there were sooo many options! The multigrain bread was perfect, crusty on the outside and thick and pillowy inside. The cookies and monkey bread satisfied my sweet tooth for the weekend. There were also several types of muffins on display with free samples. Can't wait to try the other breads and whatever sweets are on rotation next time I pop in. It's nice to have a spot to alternate with Blackbird.

While I haven't tried every bakery in the greater Cleveland region, you absolutely cannot go wrong visiting Breadsmith. Always a wide variety of breads available, and they also have mini loaves (of some types) if you want to try something new or are trying to feed just one. There is also a rewards/punchcard program that gets you a free loaf after 10 purchases! Haven't tried too many of their sweet options, but the cookies and scones are delicious.

Here is a golden find!! Breadsmith of Lakewood is a vegan bakery and all I gotta say is oh em gee!!! The Italian bread was fresh, moist and had the perfect kind of chewy crust. I also has a vegan oatmeal raisin and chocolate chip cookie...I honestly couldn't tell the difference, it tasted like the real thing! But the banging part of this visit was the hot sauce and spicy salsa. That hot sauce was flavorful spicy and just right amount of zest! It was gone in 2 days...the salsa is great on sandwiches and crackers! Jenny...Jessie...I can't remember... but she gave great service and recommendations!

3.5 stars. I'd go back for the freshly baked bread, but that's about it. The woman who helped us wasn't very friendly and almost acted annoyed that we didn't know what we wanted as soon as we walked in the shop (it was our first time there). We ordered a loaf of sourdough bread, a pepperoni roll and a sugar cookie. The bread was delicious. The pepperoni roll was good but would have been better heated up, which they did not offer to do. The sugar cookie was awful. I've had better from big-chain grocery store bakeries... it was flavorless except for the icing, which tasted sour. If I'm just looking for bread I'd probably stop by again but I'd hope for friendlier service.

The best bakery I have ever been to. Their rye bread is like no other. Service is ok but their product is way above average.

Despina's Bakery

We went there today for the first time. It's a small place with a few tables and comfortable chairs to sit and relax with a cup of Rising Star coffee. A single counter at the back of the room clearly displays the days offerings. I couldn't help but try their stuffed grape leaves, zucchini balls, and rice pudding. All of it looked marvelous. Can't wait to get home to try it all. The owner, a very pleasant and helpful woman, explained everything to us without hesitation as we asked question after question. If you long for Greek bakery, or just any bakery, give them a look-see. FYI... update: I just had everything I purchased for dinner. It was FANTASTIC!!! I'm definitely going back.

Maybe I am biased--I am Greek after all--but I believe that also makes me uniquely qualified to declare this is about as close as it gets to having a little Greece in your own backyard. The location is warm and inviting, decorated with the trappings you might expect were you to walk into an Athens "kaphenio." Despina is always kind an inviting, and it's one of the few locations in the city you can get authentic Greek coffee drinks However, the real star, of course, is the food. My favorites are bougatsa (a custard pie topped with cinnamon) and the classic spanakopita, which Despina has mastered (in fact, it's even better than what you are likely to find in Greece!). Although the location is titled a "bakery," they don't stop at just pastries however--authentic Greek salad, soups, and casseroles are usually available also and are equally fantastic. I especially recommend "pastitso" and "avgolemono." One final note--catering is another fantastic option. We used Despina to cater a number of graduation parties, and everything we ordered was delicious (too many items to really include in this review) but of special note was how responsive and accommodating to our requests. I could write all day long about how much I love this location...but I would rather spend my time eating there!
