I filled out an order form online and sent in a picture I'd found for inspiration. The bakery staff was very friendly, they kept in contact with me about specifics and made sure we were on the same page. The cake was ready on time, and I was blown away by the attention to detail. My expectations were exceeded to say the least, and my friend LOVED it! Not only was the cake gorgeous, but it tasted fantastic as well. A certain stand at the West Side Market would be the closest that I could think of with comparable quality. I was excited to come here today. I showed up yesterday and was greeted with a smile. The person behind the counter was happy to be there and help me. I asked questions about the cakes. I was informed that cakes take 2-3 weeks to order. I understood that and decided to purchase a premade and designed cake. This brings me to today. I arrived to make a choice. I unfortunately came when school let out. There were ten kids rushing in to buy cookies. Good for them. Bad for me. These kids were loud and uncontrollable. I took a few pictures of the cakes and sent them to be reviewed by my girlfriend. She wasn't totally please with the quality of the available cakes. We decided to purchase a cake anyways. I explained to the gentleman behind the counter why I wasn't choosing the one cake. And he got an attitude. I was making a purchase so he shouldn't be so rude. I asked for writing to be put on it. He did put it on. But he didn't show me the final result. He taped the box shut and rushed me to pay and pretty much get out. After I paid. He said thank you and then He walked away. I opened the box to look a the writing. I believe a little more care should have been taken for the writing. This cake is for a 90 year old birthday. I wish I could say I had a good experience. But after this experience. I'm sitting in my car writing this review. Wondering. Why would I want to come back. Why would I even order a cake that takes two weeks to get. When the customer service part of this experience was dreadful. I would like to thank them for the quality of service. But I can't. Because it was non existent. read more

Wild Flour made me the most beautiful cake for my wedding in August. I wanted a really wild non-traditional cake in pastel colors and they accommodated my every wish and desire! They even let me make the design myself, which was a pretty complex 4 tier cake with wild patterns, paint smudges, drips, watercoloring, and a tier covered entirely with sprinkles. The cake was delicious and everyone at our wedding LOVED the design! I wish they made American buttercream cakes, but their signature frosting was actually pretty good. This was a yelp let down for me. I did not do a planned cake or order but stopped by to purchase some treats to celebrate my husbands birthday. First, selection was low. There was 4 flavors of cupcakes, some mini cakes, couple cookies, and a couple various desserts. There was nothing super chocolatey and the mini cakes were vanilla cakes. I ended up getting a little of what was available. One thing I got was a buttercream filled cookie. I will admit that I am accustomed to good buttercream. This buttercream, was awful. It tasted old maybe (the last time I have tasted buttercream with that texture was my wedding cake, a year later). My husband had an individual almond chocolate trifle, he was not very positive in reaction. I am wondering how long things stay in the case. My transaction was friendly and fast given the volume of customers. I will say that this bakery looks like it does produce a lot of cake as the work area was large and there were many people picking gup orders. I think it might be another experience if you were to custom order a cake. I would not go there again to pick up pre-made desserts. read more

You know how sometimes you get a GORGEOUS cake, but then you bite into it and go, 'Ummm, nope. Not worth the calories,' and after the party you find all these plates of cake lying around with one or two bites taken out of it? This is NOT that place! Cake flavors and fillings from my daughter's grad party were seriously delicious! People came back for seconds and thirds! And make no mistake, this cake was STUNNING! I emailed a photo of my girl's mortarboard decorations 'for inspiration,' figuring we'd get some similar frosting colors and some flowers. Oh no, they pretty much replicated it, all the way down to the tassel! Plus there was the easy ordering and delightful customer service. I found this place on yelp looking for a birthday cake today for my daughter. When I walked in a very nice woman told me she would be with me in a moment as she was helping another customer. That was fine as I haven't been here before and wanted to check the place out. Nestled in an old strip on Lake Rd I parked out front. There were only 4 or 5 spots. I'm not sure where I'd park if it was busy. Luckily I got a spot. Inside there were cakes on display in several places. The case had cookies in jars on top, cupcakes, cake bars, other fine bakery treats and cakes. I picked out the pictured cake and the nice woman asked if she could put my daughter's name on it. She did a beautiful job. There were several people working on cakes in the shop as well. The cake itself was very good. Tender moist cake. Chocolate was not overdone and was well balanced. The frosting was very creamy and not overly sweet. Actually, it wasn't sweet at all compared to stuff you get at the grocery store. My daughter said she loved it as she doesn't like the overly sweet cakes from the grocery. I also got a lemon bar to go. Lots of powdered sugar on top. Sweet and tangy. Crust was perfect. First off, this review is not for one of their cakes, it is for one of their pastry trays. Picked one up, with reservations, for a few days after Christmas 2018. Cost hovered a little above $60. The tray includes a variety of about 10/12 different items - probably 4-6 items of each. Items included the likes of opera cake, brownies, mini-vanilla cupcakes, cheescakes, key lime tarlets, cannoli, peanut butter square, etc. - each item is the size of a two-bite piece. The website said it contains the likes of cream puffs, eclairs, macaroons, etc. - nope that never happened even though my spouse specifically asked about those items when placing the order. In all fairness, they do say the tray is "seasonal" so some items may not appear on your tray. Overall, the looks of the tray was great! Beautiful! I asked the clerk to let me know what items are on the tray - she had no idea and asked a co-worker. The co-worker tried but clearly missed naming many of the items - probably named about 7/8 of the 10/12 items. But let's get into the key issue - the taste of the items. Terrible. Nothing was good. Nothing stood out. Nothing at all! I can clearly say there was not a single item that I would like a second of from this tray. There is nothing that I can "Wow, that was fabulous - can't wait to go back and grab those items." In fact, ALL the guests declined taking home any of the leftover pastries from the tray. That left the 3 of us at home - other than me, the other two did not venture within 6 feet of that tray. My spouse even wondered how many of these items do they really make from scratch - good question! That left me and I felt obligated because we paid so much for it. Major mistake here! Key question - would I recommend them? No, not at all. Would I try a cake from there? Yes I would as I have read numerous other reviews, all very positive. The key for me - if I am buying, it will be the smallest cake they make! I don't want to make another mistake. Final point - they have some odd write up on the counter saying they pass along the credit card fee of 3% or something like that, if you pay by credit card ... seriously I am not looking to play "payment games" when I shop. Overall a very bland and tasteless experience with their pastry tray! read more

I recently attended two weddings that had cakes from Wild Flour and they were the best wedding cakes I've ever tasted. Wedding cake can be really bad really fast, but the chocolate/peanut butter multi-layer confection at my friend's wedding was perfection. That being said, we had Wild Flour make a cake for a friend's party, and it was exceptional, as expected. We had so many compliments. Love, love, love! It tasted great and was beautiful. They really care about their customers and delivering an exceptional product (which feels really refreshing). I'm not sure how anyone could give less than 5 stars! My fiance and I tried an almond cake and a plain white cake and the only thing that made either bearable was the fact that there was frosting on it. Too bad the frosting tasted like crap too! I'm going to see if it somehow has developed some taste by the time I get home today and if it hasn't, I'll have to chuck mine too, even though I hate to waste food. Wild Flour Bakery made my wedding cake. It was a simple, 3-tiered cake with butter cream frosting, a ribbon running along the bottom of each tier and real flowers as decoration. The cake arrived on time. The cake was very moist and the filling was also delicious. My only complaint (and it's not a complaint at all) is that I wish they used more filling. But, since each layer had at least 3 layers of filling - each bite was still filled with a great combination of cake and filling. The owner put me at ease when I met with her (4 months before the wedding) and answered all of my questions in a straight forward manner (which is what I prefer). They are a little pricier than other bakeries I met with - but the higher price tag came with friendlier staff and a higher quality cake. read more

This place is doing my wedding cake and they did not make it easy...because every sponge and every filling is soo good we couldn't decide what combinations we wanted! In fact, we still haven't decided as I sit here surrounded by frostings and fillings with cake crumbs all over. Today I got the sample pack which includes 8 (perfectly moist) sponges and a range of frostings and fillings. If I had to pick just one it would be the salted caramel on white sponge. But seriously you can't go wrong with any of the flavors and combinations. Other favorites included the lemon and red velvet sponges and the bavarian creme, raspberry and ganache fillings. YUM. They were very good at explaining all the options and what they're able to do. They are also really friendly and as soon as I mentioned I was here to pick up the tasting packet tye knew my name, wedding date and what we were after in terms of decoration. We were referred to this place by my soon-to-be Aunt in law who has lived in the area all of her life and insists this is the best bakery in the city.
