I don't get how this place has such high ratings. Staff were kind and explained to me the various pastries, but they were rather persistent in getting me to order despite being in the shop for only 2 minutes. I ordered a Buñuelo, El Cabezon, a Maduro and Queso Empanada, and a Pastel de Pizza. The buñuelo was straight up soggy and overly sweet. The cabezon was also soggy but tasted alright. The empanada and pastel were both straight up cold. I would think they would fry it to order or at least heat it up so it's crispy again. Only good thing is how cheap everything is. This is my all time favorite Cuban bakery. My husband and I found it by accident one day killing time in the area before heading to a party. We live all the way in north miami and go out of our way to get their pastries. The staff is super sweet. I always get their pastelitos. Recently we did some catering and ordered their mini empanadas, sandwiches and croquetas. Sooo good!! Also love their coffee, they make it perfectly. It's a small space so it's not like a proper sit down restaurant. It's a true bakery meant for quick service and grab and go. This place a a stable especially for there breakfast items. Not enough people rave about this small business and it is indeed a good one. We always come of course for the cafecito, but their sandwiches are delicious. We always go with the Rakata Sandwich which consist of five croquettas, fried cheese, serrano ham, juliana fries and a salasa aioli, but everything on this menu is definitely something to give a try. Even their pastelitos don't disappoint. And one of the star of the shows is their Jack Daniels cake. This place has everything you need including party packages. Definitely mornings and weekends are busy but the service is fast the ladies taking your orders are very polite are quick to take orders so the line moves fast. I came here for the Cuban sandwich, but fell in love with the creative desserts. For those of you who grew up Cuban, you'll recognize the names of most of the traditional desserts here -- torrejas, panetela borracha, capuchino, etc. However, they're also playing around with those classics and mixing things up with things like "Ño, Alabao (as in the Cuban expression "Alabao sea Dios", which roughly translates into English as "Holy sh**"), etc. Funny, yes, but also amazing desserts that mix things like Cuban style Crème Brûlée with a moist cake underneath. They just work--try them. Back to the Cuban sandwich. If you say, yes, to them putting everything on it, you'll get a sandwich that is overwhelmed with mayo and mustard. I'd recommend at least asking for it with light mayo and mustard, unless that's your thing. I asked for it without mayo and light on the mustard. The ham is nothing special. It's just square-cut processed ham. Also, there was barely any pork, just once slice. The pork was fine, but there was nothing particularly great about it. All that said, the real star of this sandwich is the bread. The bread was at least a 9/10. It was crunchy, light and soft, with a terrific flavor. This bakery was a short walk from our hotel so my Sister and I decided to check it out! They heave beautiful displays of a variety of pastries and delicacies. Their cakes are absolutely stunning and we intentionally sat near the register so we could watch as people picked up their festive layers of cake! We ordered the three different kinds of empanadas - ham and cheese, chicken, and beef. They were all super tasty, the chicken one was a bit dry but still flakey and good nonetheless. Customers were coming to get pre orders for large parties at the counter on the end (also the pastry counter) enter at the door on the right. The left is for mela orders. Lots of goodies were on display - from fancy cakes, to pastries etc. I ordered a coconut pastry as I love these. To be honest it was ok, but too dry imo - maybe that's how it is supposed to be?, But when I have sampled these before the coconut filling is usually moist in the centre and a bit chewy on the outside?
