They serve absolutely the best sandwiches to be had in Woodstock, using their own delicious bread and extremely fresh ingredients, always perfectly seasoned. Standouts for me are absolutely the turkey and asparagus sandwich, the chicken sandwich and the cauliflower sandwich. These three are absolutely scrumptious. So flavorful and, again, on their fresh bread it's really a treat. As well, they make an avocado toast that is a wonder to behold. It's just so beautifully seasoned and with such a lovely medley of flavors. Their desserts are also quite good! Their Canelles are very popular among my friends. Good bagels, but not great. Good muffins. Wonderful tarts! Their pies aren't my favorites. They seem to lack something in the dough. Anyway, no place is perfect and this place is pretty derned close! You may remember this name from the farmer's markets around NYC (particularly Union Square), but a trip to their restaurant in Woodstock will give you a completely different (and worthwhile) experience! They have a quick to-go coffee counter up front, with seating in the back for meals or larger orders. We ended up with two sandwiches...a melted grilled cheese and burnt ends pastrami. Both were huge and the namesake breads were perfect accompaniments to the contents folded inside. Needless to say we loved our meal! There are some great spots along Main Street in Woodstock, and Bread Alone is definitely on our short list now! read more

Every time I'm in the Woodstock area, a stop at bread alone is a MUST! I absolutely love this cafe. The bread choices are vast, fantastic, and fresh, and their pastries are delicious! I always find the waitstaff pleasant and helpful, too. I always stock up on baguettes when I come in here, and store some in the freezer for large family dinners. I always enjoy the avocado toast, and house salad is excellent as well! They also carry fresh juices, small to-go bites, cream cheeses, hummus, and packs of their cookies. Delicious hot chocolate and coffee brownie!!! I came by this place with my boyfriend as we were taking a stroll down Woodstock's downtown area. Because we wanted a warm beverage and a small snack we decided to check this place out. The place overall is super cute and quite modern which I really enjoyed! The only downside was that we came around 5 pm and by that time they barely had any pastries at all which made me quite sad since we were looking forward to having something sweet. To my surprise, my boyfriend asked for the coffee brownie which I thought wouldn't be as good as it really turned out to be. We also ordered a large hot chocolate which was quite yummy and well paired with the coffee brownie. The hot chocolate was not blazing hot which I really appreciated and was not crazy sweet like other places, it was just perfect! The brownie was soft and really tasting and would recommend anyone to try it out. I would for sure come back here but perhaps would try coming back earlier in order to have more options to pick from. The relatively new building in Boiceville is supposed to be the latest word... but they don't have ventilation for their kitchen, which is wide open to the sitting area. Though we visited during the coronoa virus lock down and weren't able to dine in, my partner and I ended up coming here every morning on our long weekend in Woodstock! It's quite simply some of the best bread, treats, and sandwiches - all around. The coffee is also very good as well and found it hard not to get more than one. The egg and peppers sandwich was a real highlight, and not pictured was the breakfast burrito with chorizo. Both were so delicious. The egg sandwich had such great bread and was the perfect amount of heat with a perfectly cooked egg. The burrito was tasty, not too large, with great bites of beans, chorizo and sour cream. So excellent. The pastries were really, really delicious. Two days in a row ate some variety of sticky bun. The pecan sticky bun posted was exceptional. Really sweet but so flaky. I can't wait to visit their famers market stand in Union Square so I can buy all of their breads! read more

They're on point with enforcing COVID guidelines (masks on, 1 customer in the store to order at a time, must sanitizer hands before entering), which I appreciated. I bought a standard cappuccino and SF sourdough and enjoyed it on the patio outside of the bakery. Unfortunately I've had 2 negative experiences at the Woodstock location. A few months ago I ordered a sandwich and, in addition to omitting several ingredients, there was only a minuscule amount of cream cheese and a small piece of lox on the bagel. The counter person seemed very intimidated by the arrogant boys in the kitchen and she told me the boys said the kitchen was now closed. This was 1 minute after I received the sandwich. Strike 1. Today the somewhat overweight woman with brown hair and a tattoo on her upper left arm working behind the counter was extraordinarily rude. I did not get her name. It was 4:25 PM and Bread Alone closes at 5:00 PM. I asked if the outside seating area was open and she brusquely told me it was only open for 10 more minutes. Aside from her nonsensical, rude assertion, this petulant child repeatedly insisted we would have to vacate the patio at 4:40 PM. Really ? Ummm - no no no little girl. The espresso drinks she made were hastily and sloppily made - the milk was burnt and the drinks were ultimately nothing like a proper Latte. Strike 2. The Woodstock location seems to specialize in hiring people with negative, ungracious attitudes who really do not care about good customer service or properly preparing kitchen items and hot beverages. Bread Alone will no longer receive my patronage - I'm long past putting up with this kind of BS. Strike 3 and I'm out ! read more

I love the coffee and baked goods at this place and every time we are in town we make several trips to Bread Alone. This time visiting there have been several disgruntled and rude baristas that make me question my patronage of the establishment. Today the store was really busy and we'd been waiting close to 15 minutes for a food order. I was watching the window and orders were up and the bell was ringing and only one woman was running food, despite several baristas behind the counter. I could see our order in the corner of the window for over 5 minutes. I honestly avoided asking about it because the woman at the cappuccino machine had been rude to me the day before. After several minutes since she was the only person in reach I said very kindly and considerately to her, "Can you check on an order?" And she snapped, "It will come up when it's ready!" A few minutes earlier an older gentleman who told her he was hard of hearing asked if she'd put up his coffee and she shouted the order in his face instead of just responding to him. A local coffee shop isn't just a place to get coffee, people go there to engage and feel connected to other people. If you can't put your annoyance aside to do your job, go find another job. read more

It took me forever to realize this was a chain, and for a chain I think it's absolutely wonderful. I'm totally biased to the Woodstock location. If you go at the right time it's absolutely marvelous. If you go at the wrong time it's quite crowded and you might meet some interesting people or see some familiar faces, whatever floats your sticky bun Coffee and croissants. There are so many choices and everything is so fresh and delicious and the owner is just such a lovely lovely lovely person. Ordered a bagel with caper cream cheese and well, they earned the name Bread Alone. There was an almost undetectable amount of cream cheese on my order. See the photo. It's like they scraped it off. I'd give them minus 5 stars if I could. "We've got no croissants, but we've got plenty of bad attitude!" This should be their motto that is posted on the wall. Visiting them after CDC already informed the citizenry that they do not need to wear masks if fully vaccinated, I got ejected by really unpleasant employees simply for not wearing a mask. But it would have been a lost cause anyway, since no croissants were to be seen anywhere. What is really interesting is that it was not just one employee. As soon as I told them I don't wear a mask due to CDC upgraded policy, some 5 or 6 employees converged behind the counter and ganged up on me, as if to emphasize that they are all unpleasant as a group, not just some one outlier person. If you're in downtown Woodstock, you do have a very positive alternative: Olsen's served lovely croissants, and excellent lattes, with no side dish of bad attitude whatsoever. I have long loved Bread Alone sourdough loaves and picked them up at local farmers markets in Brooklyn whenever I had the chance. When I found out Woodstock had a bread alone cafe complete with pastries breakfast and lunch I braved the freezing temps and made it over for breakfast. Their open faced smoked salmon sandwich on their fresh made bagel was glorious. Perfect salmon to cream cheese ratio on a perfectly toasted warm bagel. The sprinkle of micro greens on top was a nice touch. I was less enamored with their pastries. The chocolate croissant needed to be warmed up to taste good and their caramel apple macaron was good but tasted more like chewy Whoopi pie. You can also get a gigantic bread or they can cut it in quarters or in half for you. Coffee wasn't bad either. Service was friendly and prompt, even though the place was mobbed. read more

Bread alone is -the- go to spot for your bread and treat needs while visiting/living in Woodstock. While on a weekend trip to the town with some friends, this place was consistently recommended and came up on a number of Yelp search results, and for good reason. They carry a number of different bread loaf flavors, from sweet to savory, but all freshly made. There are a few samples by the door to entice you in, but also to feel inspired to buy something. I bought a cranberry walnut loaf and a lemon tart. The Cranberry Walnut loaf was awesome; it was soft in the center, springy and moist, with the perfect distribution of berries and nuts - enough to add flavor but not too many to make it taste like a cake. The crust was perfectly toasted and would have a slight crisp if you eat it immediately. Once it's stored in the plastic bag, however, the moisture will overtake that. Still tasty. The lemon tart was a little on the pricey side at $5 for a ~4" diameter tart, but if you love lemon, then this is for you. The crust was crumbly and buttery, and the lemon filling had the consistency of a silky, runny egg. I'm not sure how I ate this with my care hands, actually. But the combo of sweetness and puckery tartness was nicely balanced. Bread Alone also sells sandwiches, hot coffee/tea beverages, and some bottled stuff in the refrigerated area. There's a good amount of seating, so I'd recommend it as a spot to grab your caffeine buzz, eat a snack/sandwich, and just kinda hang out. The staff is friendly enough and the constant flow of customers will remind you that you're partaking in the most popular carb hotspot in town. read more

Went to this place while visiting Woodstock this weekend. We are a fan of their sourdough loaves which we buy at farmers markets/local market in the city so we figured this was a safe option for lunch. We were incredibly disappointed by our chicken club sandwich. At close to 14 dollars a sandwich, it was basically a slider. A small overcooked and under seasoned piece of chicken and tiny scrap of bacon on a very small mini baguette. Good thing this was a late lunch and we were eating dinner soon because this was more like a snack and at that price, not worth it. Will continue to buy their breads but advise skipping this establishment next time and eating at another spot in town instead. read more

I love this place sooooo much! Went every morning of our Woodstock trip. It's just a happiness-inducing place. The coffee is GREAT. My almond milk latte was top notch and so was the cold brew. Yum. Hubs got a croissant every day. I enjoyed every baked good I tried. Standouts were the baker's muffin (that's a must-order) and the scones. The morning glory muffin and cinnamon twist bread didn't change my life so I wouldn't need to get those again. And the bagels are not as good as NYC bagels. Their big loaves of bread are lovely and special and I loved that you could get a quarter of one. I buy prepackaged Bread Alone bread at the supermarket sometimes and it doesn't compare to the real deal here. Even the BA items at my farmer's market in Brooklyn are just not quite the same. Stopped in and picked up a loaf of their Rye Sourdough. We vote YES on the Rye Sourdough. We also got a loaf of their San Francisco Sourdough and were quite confused, because the "Sour" just wasn't there like it was in the Rye Sourdough. It's not a bad bread....It just doesn't represent a classic San Francisco Sourdough with that distinctive "Bite" from the Sourdough. Certainly not going to throw it away.....it does have a nice but rather plain taste all on it's own. We were able to order and pay for the loaves online in advance and just blow in there and pick them up quickly. That part was perfect. In the future we might try some of their other offerings and we'll report back here with the results. So, For now we're batting 500....which isn't so bad. read more

The best part of this place after a long weekend of doing nothing is how it let me keep my lazy mode going. Not my favorite place for bread/bakery, it was kinda hard and not soft enough like it was freshly made but their iced coffee was pretty good. We got all sort of goodies to try since we are not from around there, just stopping by on our weekend getaway trip. The mango dessert was not bad, you taste the mango but it also have a milky aftertastes that I didn't really like. They are available in farmers market in the city but don't think I have gotten anything from them, Maison Kayser has better bread/bakery/desserts in my opinion read more

Came here for breakfast to start the day for my granddaughters 21st birthday. The food was fantastic- our iced mocha lattes were the best we've ever had! Clean and inviting.The staff were beyond friendly, smiles to begin our day honestly were so awesome- all staff members came and began a Happy birthday song that customers joined in and it was such a great beginning to a great day!
