I picked this place for the sign, it was pretty cute. This place with the fireplace and the Gaelic phrases was very warm and welcoming. The food was amazing. A cute restaurant on a cute historic street! From the tavern sign to the clean interior, you go in liking this place already. The staff was limited on the weekday we came, but friendly. The tap list included Guinness, Harp,and Smithwicks, and a couple local beers among the dozen, but also a moderate list of cocktails and wines. Picking from the dishes is difficult because even on the lunch menu, there are so many yummy offerings. Narrowing it down with with the signature symbols, the short rib au jus on a crusty, buttery baguette was delightful. Sampling the corned beef on pretzel, it could be difficult to decide even on multiple trips. We went all out starting with both a plate of crab cakes and stuffed clam cakes, and found the crab the meatier of the two, but both were comforting. For whatever reason Yelpers have listed Brazen Hen as not being a good place for kids, but we still took a chance. Despite the clean, dark but glossy interior, our kid still got a coloring sheet placemat and brand new crayolas. The kids menu seemed to be on theme, and I still can't believe my kid picked shepherd's pie over the usual chicken tenders and fries. What a find! We were in Westerly on a snowy day. Saw this place, pulled into a parking spot on the street and wandered in to a warm, inviting, cozy, tavern. The fireplace was an added treat. The meals were delicious. Yes, that cod reuben was very delicious. Large sandwich, many (too many!) fries, and drinks. Hamburger was also terrific. There is nothing we didn't like here. Even the restrooms are really nice! The bar was fairly busy for a random Saturday afternoon. When in the area again I would not hesitate to return there. The menu seemed quite diverse, also. Tried this pub on a family recommendation and we were not disappointed! The Asian inspired calamari was magnificent, a very creative combination of flavors that you must try! The meatloaf is a blend of veal, corned beef, and pork. It's tender, and juicy, but also slightly dense in the best possible way. The brown onion gravy is savory. Mashed potatoes are homemade and richly flavored, maybe a hint of sour cream and lots of butter. The julienned carrots and squash accompany the french style green beans perfectly. Not a bad spot In the heart of down town westerly. They have some pretty good sandwich items and a couple of good pasta dishes, but I do feel as though it is priced a bit high. Best kept secret in Westerly! We have been coming here as a family for 3 years. The food is always delicious and largely portioned. If you like waffle fries full of flavor, get the Irish Waffle Fries. The meatloaf can be cut with a fork and slices like butter. Incredibly flavorful on the inside and out. Chicken and waffles are also a great dish- the combination of syrup and crispy, seasoned chicken is out of this world. Don't let the old Irish style pub look deceive you. While visiting the beach in October we decided to try this place after checking out other reviews. This place is situated in the center of an old town. Parking is in the street and there is a couple parking lots right next to place. I had the braised short ribs, and friend ordered the filet mignon. Short ribs were dynamite, very tender and flavorful. Served on top of garlic mash with asparagus as the other side. Onion strings on top added a great crunch to the meal. Friends filet was presented very well and also was really satisfying. Plenty of seating and also establishment offers entertainment on certain nights, karaoke, and live bands. The only gripe I have is there was no salad or other options served with meal. I would definitely come back again. Oh yeah we had the lump crab cakes for appetizer. This would be my second gripe as they mediocre at best, not cooked well, "not crispy" and not much crab. read more

I was visiting home after about 7 months and had yet to try this place. My best friend recommended that we go here as she has had good experiences. It's very close to Wilcox Park and very easy to get too! The atmosphere was very nice, maybe a little noisy. We went on a Saturday night so there was quite a few people, at the bar also. We were seated pretty close to the bar which is why it may have been pretty noisy, but my friend and I still had no problem hearing each other. I saw that people were being seated outside, but I didn't even know that was an option... Our waitress was pretty nice, she did her job and told us the specials and made sure we had our drinks topped, but didn't do anything really extraordinary. My best friend got the shepherds pie, which I hear is amazing. She ate the whole dish and she's pretty small! I forget what mine was called, but it was a pasta dish with chicken and mushrooms. I really love all three of those ingredients and thought the dish was okay. I ate about half of it but didn't take it home. It was a good taste, but not the taste I was hoping for, if that makes any sense. I probably wouldn't get that again if I went, but they had other options on the menu that I'd definitely try, especially the pie. We also got the chocolate mousse for dessert, which was very very good. It was a great experience! My friend and I stopped in here for a little bit later lunch after exhausting ourselves shopping. It was quiet at lunch on a Sunday, there's a nice bar and high ceilings. Our waitress was really nice and helpful in making some recommendations. My friend had the Mediterranean Whole Grain salad with beef, and I had the Guinness French Onion Soup and The Hen salad with chicken. Came here on Saturday night of Labor Day Weekend. We tried to go somewhere in Mystic and it was 2-1/2 hour wait. Called a bunch of other places and they were all the same. Even a basic pizza place was an hour. We called here and they said they didn't have a wait at all. By the time we got there it was about a 10 minute wait. Nbd. Food was mixed. My wife got clam chowder and I got jalapeño poppers to start. For dinner they she got our chicken Alfredo and our daughter got Mac and cheese. Basically the same dish but the Alfredo had the chicken and veggies. I ordered a burger and they actually brought me someone else's burger that came with a side salad. I was totally confused at first (what are they trying to tell me lol). Once I got into the burger I realized it wasn't my meal at all. They brought out the correct one right away. Ok, so this is a really trendy place. Great atmosphere, great decor, friendly wait staff. Moderately priced ($40 per person with a drink). The onion soup was good, but really, really too salty. The Guinness Beer was cold when it should be served at room temp. The salad was blaze at best, with an insufficient amount of dressing. Way too much lettuce compared to other ingredients on the plate. I ordered The Shepard's Pie and out came meatloaf. The waitress was polite and my order came back out after dinner was over at my table. The "Shepard's Pie" appeared to be my meatloaf with some carrots and peas now hidden, in a not too great disguise, under really good mashed potatoes with melted cheese. The latter was quite good. Eating meatloaf disguised as Shepard's Pie didn't go over all that big with an former Executive Chef at a Top 10 Rated Restaurant. While I would love to eat there again and support local business, I just can't see myself doing it again, as I want to enjoy great food. Not sure if you can find that here. We went after the Columbus Day parade. The service was excellent. My friends ordered the steak sandwich and the shepherds pie. They loved theirs. Upon the waitresses recommendation, I ordered a burger. I like it pink inside, so I asked if I should order medium rare or medium (which should still have pink inside). She recommended ordering it medium. While the burger was overcooked (no pink), it was also very dry and had zero flavor. The fries were very good though. Today I write with passion about the Brazen Hen in downtown Westerly, RI. It was a Friday in February when I had the opportunity to grab lunch at the Brazen. I don't usually find myself in this area but have always wanted to sample the multitude of amazing restaurant choices in this hip city. I didn't have a destination in mind but wanted to land somewhere where I could work on my laptop while getting a bite to eat. There was ample parking on Canal Street, so I found a parking spot which was directly in front of the Brazen Hen. While still in the car, I took a quick peek at Brazen's lunch menu on my phone and decided to give it a try. The décor was delightful and comfortable, and I took a seat at the bar. I ordered a Diet Coke and a menu. I chose the "Grilled Teriyaki Flank Steak Salad" which was described as "Kimchi over mixed greens with Wakame salad, julienned vegetables, roasted cashews, scallions and snap peas, dressed with a mandarin orange vinaigrette." I didn't know what Kimchi or Wakame was, but I didn't care - I wanted (needed) veggies! There was the option to add additional protein to the salad, and I chose to add three, bacon-wrapped scallops. The combination of veggies, beef and scallops was the perfect remedy for comfort food during the dark of winter in New England. The bartender was very attentive and ensured that I received my drink immediately. He took my order and my lunch came out within 15-20 minutes. This salad... THIS SALAD!!!! It was so delicious! All of the parts complemented each other. The tastes were deep. The beef was abundant. The scallops (SEA scallops) were tender and delicious. The presentation (see photo) was planned. The tip I gave was, a no brainer, more than 20%, and I am surely going to go out of my way to go back to the Brazen Hen because there are so many more menu items to try! read more
