Small cozy comfortable old building, the walls lined with historical photos and advertising. Welcoming friendly staff keep your coffee cup full and the big menu selection covers all three daily meals. Daily Specials are hand written on the white board by the counter. Grab a table by the window, relax and watch authentic rural Oklahoma life pass by on the street. Or select one of the limited stools at the counter, ponder about the weather for the day with the locals; or visit with the staff and watch Granny make delicious homemade meringue pies. As I was paying the bill, Granny walked by with a chocolate meringue headed to the pie safe (display case). It was stacked high with light fluffy whipped egg whites and then baked just long enough to give it that perfect pie suntan. The young lady at the register said the restaurant had been in business for over 30 years. It is an icon in the community. My wife and I both had the 2-egg breakfast, with bacon (came with four strips of thick smokey bacon), hash browns, and a biscuit with gravy. All cooked country diner perfect. Great service. This is where you eat breakfast on 66. It may be the best for other diner style meals too. I have reliable sources that have rated the burgers here as excellent. Check out the old brick paved street on Pine St. on the N.W. side of the restaurant as you walk back to your car. Across the street viewable from our table, there is a controversial sign on the building stating that Chelsea was the location of the first oil well in Oklahoma. There are three or four other sites in Oklahoma that claim the same, as the first. An unsettled Oklahoma controversy. Quiet, friendly little town, a relaxing diner with excellent food.

What I loved the most was the flaky crust--so good! The salad is pretty standard, but it was fresh and crisp. The ranch dressing is fabulous, homemade, and made the salad delicious. The lunch portion of chicken fried chicken I received was on the large side. It was seasoned very well, and I loved the seasonings. The meat was so tender and juicy! I know I got my food just a few minutes after the it was fried. It couldn't have been more fresh. The star of my meal was the mashed red potatoes and gravy. They actually cook and mash real potatoes. It is so hard to find this when dining out. They used the perfect amount of salt. It's been a long time since I have not added salt to my meal but I didn't need to here. Oh, the little bun was homemade too and so yummy. I loved everything I ate! Can't wait to go back.

That helped, but not enough. If I were asked how this business could avoid closing, I'd say A) Either make it an Irish Pub or change the name of the restaurant, and B) avoid saving money but reducing the more expensive ingredients (e.g. meat) and increasing inexpensive items like bread and rice (in my wife's entree). The cheese fries were good and I thought the fried mushrooms were delicious. My son devoured their chili and really enjoyed it too. I liked their gravy too. Everything was delicious and it was reasonable priced for the amount we got! I'll definitely eat here again!
