I went to eat at Corrales on Friday night and accidentally left my phone behind…read more When my wife went back to pick it up, using the location from Find My iPhone, the same server who had waited on me told her she didn't recognize me or know who I was. My wife was there with our two little children, trying to explain what I had been wearing, who I was with, and where we had been sitting. She was still ignored and received very little help from the staff. Eventually, I did get my phone back, and I'm thankful for that. But what bothers me is everything surrounding it. I tipped more than 20% that night. I always try to leave my table as clean as possible out of respect for the server and busser. I've been coming here for years. I genuinely love the food and have always enjoyed the atmosphere. I even have memories of getting ice cream with my son from the place next door, which I understand is under the same ownership. That's why this experience hurt more than it probably would have somewhere else. Maybe this was the actions of one server. Maybe there was a misunderstanding. I can't say for certain what every staff member knew. But from my wife's experience, no one seemed willing to help her, and the way the situation was handled felt dishonest, dismissive, and disrespectful. Something as simple as returning someone's lost phone should not have turned into this. I have a lot of good memories at Corrales, and I truly loved coming here. Unfortunately, after this experience, I don't see myself coming back. Thanks for the memories, Corrales. I sincerely wish this situation had been handled differently.

That said, the pricing was hard to justify. The Trompo al Pastor was $49 (portion is big enough to share, despite being described as per person), and the Barbacoa at $35 was decent but lacked depth of flavor and needed more seasoning. The $16 guacamole was also a surprisingly small portion for the price. We also ordered the Aguachile al Mango for $28, which sounded great but was almost inedible due to the extreme spice level. Overall, a nice atmosphere with strong cocktails, but the value just didn't match the cost for us.

There are serious questions about how the situation was handled, including why he was not cut off from alcohol service sooner and the actions of security. Basically you can't go wrong with anything that you order. The staff are very friendly and spirited, and they are happy to answer any questions you might have ("chilaquiles burritos? Really?"). The ambience is colorful and romantic, in keeping with the romantic name of the restaurant, and I think it's a great place to take a date for good food and good atmosphere.

Nice outside patio seating as well. A hostess will greet you. Spanish is the first language , but can communicate in English. I didn't really understand the hostess when I asked why we couldn't sit at the front of the restaurant in the high top tables. I thought she said because of mosquitoes, but my internal translation may be incorrect . We sat in the inside dining room. The drinks & appetizer were good quality. Goat quesabirria, skinny Cadillac margarita and Don Julio . They should bring out plates with the chips and salsa when there is more than one person at the table. It promotes healthy eating habits as not to "double dip". But overall, service was good. Friendly people and good food/drinks. They are suppose to have the Best Pozole in Chicago, looks like I'll need to return to verify that. Looking forward to it. Parking is out front or in surrounding area, 2 hour max, read signs. The restaurant has that classic Mexican restaurant look and a welcoming atmosphere. From our table, we could see straight into the kitchen, which was busy the entire time with food being prepared and coming out. The staff were really nice and welcoming, checking on us and making sure we had everything we needed. I ordered the Asada Sope Dinner, and wow... these things were massive. Each sope was packed with meat and covered with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and crema, with a layer of beans underneath holding everything together. It was basically a little mountain of food on each plate. The sopes themselves were crispy and crunchy around the edges. The beans added a warm, savory layer underneath, while the crema brought some coolness and richness to everything. The meat was the star for me. It was juicy and tender with those little charred edges that gave it a smoky, grilled flavor. These were honestly epic. Definitely I'll be coming back just for those sopes, a delicious mountain of food.
