This shop is no longer Brake Plus, and sadly, that means the honesty is gone too. I came in expecting to replace only the front brake pads, as recommended by the dealer, but they insisted on replacing all four pads and both front and rear rotors, claiming it was necessary: "The dealer will change them anyway when they take the pads out." It felt more like a pressure sell than an honest recommendation. To make things worse, what was supposed to be a 3-hour job turned into an exhausting 5.5-hour wait. If you value fair pricing, transparency, and efficiency, I strongly suggest taking your business elsewhere. read more

Took my van in to assess the brakes and asked them to look at the shocks and suspension while it was on lift. I will say they were honest about the brakes being well within limits, but.... Technician wrote down that steering pump had a leak and that he recommended a new one. I specifically asked if he had checked the oring on the high pressure side, and was told that he did. That was flat out false. I cleaned the 130000 miles of grease and dirt off of the pump and have been observing it over the last 100 miles. There is NO leak. That would have been an extra $700 job for someone who doesn't know any better. As far as suspension and shocks, I knew the rears were toast, but they told me the fronts were fine. They are not. The boots are shredded and there is obvious leaking. Also, they quoted 2 hours work on the rears for a job that will literally take 20 mins a side on a lift. I really wanted to like these guys based on the stellar reviews, but I think most of the reviewers really know nothing about cars and are enamored with the customer service they receive. read more

Not the worst auto shop but there's better. The break job didn't look superior, had concerns after. Inquired about another repair they quoted 1.8 hours (mechanical book value 45 minutes) and then said additional parts need to be replaced. Took it to another shop they quoted me at .8 labor and didn't need to replace additional parts as stated by brakes plus. Cost of going to another shop $387.35, cost of brakes plus $823 plus tax. Saving $500, priceless. read more

Weirdly enough, I've never had any work done at Brakes Plus because I've brought my Mazda in twice and each time they've told me the pads are fine! So regardless of the squishiness, I head back over to Brakes Plus and pick up my vehicle in surprise. But you know what? These guys are super-honest and straight-forward with you as a a customer, sort of like Discount Tire so the next time my Mazda does need work? I'm bringing it to Brakes Plus. I took my van, which I purchased 8 months prior, in for routine fuel induction service and got a call 2 hours later that they had blown up my engine.  They towed my van to the dealership and they determined that the services done at Brake's Plus caused catastrophic engine failure on a perfectly good engine. I spoke to the owner of Brake's Plus, Kathy Guenther, who admitted fault and said that she would file a claim with her insurance but it has been almost 2 weeks and she has not provided a claim number, rental car, absolutely nothing.  I have received a few apologies and a vague "I'm working on it" but it is unacceptable to ruin someone's engine and then not take immediate action to resolve it. read more

Believe the reviews. I've taken my vehicles in for mechanical issues as well as routine things like oil changes and tire rotation. The best part about brakes plus is that they are honest and transparent. Anytime I've had an issue, they take the time to explain what the part is, what it does, why it isn't working in a way that doesn't feel rushed or dismissive. Then (if it's not a safety issue) they will give you the pros and cons of fixing it or leaving it alone. Not a hint of pressure and doesn't feel adversarial. I really believe they give it to you straight. Scheduling and in-person interactions are also notably pleasant. They're the only ones who work on my cars now. read more

I've been going to Brakes Plus for about 3 years with 3 different vehicles. They are prompt, courteous, fairly priced, and trustworthy. My most recent experience, I took my Honda CRV in because it was making squealing noise on startup. They had me drop it off overnight so they could start it cold the next day. After trying multiple times and not hearing the noise, they called. Told me they checked the belts and other possible causes and everything looked fine. Offered to change the belt but said there really was no need. When I picked the vehicle up, they did not charge me a thing. This is the kind of service that builds trust. I recommend Brakes Plus to everyone I know and feel great to have a trusted mechanic close to home. read more

I felt a little pulsing in my brakes so I brought my car in. My pads were still good and my rear rotors were only a little worn so they told me I might as well just wait it out as long as it wasn't bothering me and that the car was totally safe still to drive. They could have easily said to replace them and I would have believed them, but they were honest. While I was waiting one of the customers in the lobby said that he's been bringing his cars there for 9 years and that they have always been really good and reliable and that he won't take his cars anywhere else. Then they even waived the fee to look at my car because it didn't take long which I was not expecting! Will definitely be bringing my car back here in the future! read more

One morning, all of the brake fluid has mysteriously drained from my car (!) so my first call was to Brakes Plus due to all of their positive feedback. They told me not to drive it, and recommended a few towing companies. Plus, they were able to work on my car that very afternoon. I was able to get my car towed within 2 hours (thanks to their recommendation) and Brakes Plus was calling me with an update/fix just a few hours later. They were upfront with all prices and possible solutions. Due to a necessary part order, they weren't able to fix my car until the following morning which they apologized for but I was thrilled with that kind of turnaround time. Upon pickup, they were great at explaining the issue and including a few recommendations since my car had passed the 100,000 mile mark. Checkout was easy since they take all major credit cards. The price was reasonable. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to anyone. read more

I saw many great reviews of this place on other websites and through search engines, so I thought I would check it out. They did not disappoint! This is a family owned, independent car shop. They do just about everything except they refer out for body work or engine rebuilding. There is no sales pressure. Everybody is professional and knowledgeable about cars. They honored the coupon I printed off their website and brought in. I got my oil changed, new brake pads installed, my rotors and other brakes cleaned and inspected, a transmission flush, etc. - all for a very reasonable price! I will definitely be back when it is time for my state inspection. read more

We have been going to Brakes Plus for at least 15 years. They are honest, knowledgeable and very open about whether repairs are urgently needed or can wait. We recently took at car in that was making a loud squeaking noise when turning. They found a pebble in the rotor, removed it, and did not charge us anything. Great customer service, very transparent and does a great job at scheduling you in last minute when you really need them! I had an engine problem and they had to get parts sent from somewhere else to do the replacement and they got me in and out within a day. After struggling with another local garage for an estimate and being "talked down to", I called up this business and was immediately impressed by their fast response and great customer service. They initially needed to look up information but called me back within 15 minutes to let me know when they could accommodate me and a ballpark figure for services. I really like these guys. They always do a great job, not just fixing the issue but explaining what is happening, why, and even what other options I may have-- including not fixing it! (Given the age of my car, you have to start factoring cost to fix versus its value to begin with.) I even prefer them to the dealership. And, they are honest about what services they can do, and which they can't. It's important to me that I not feel talked down to or other hassles I sometimes have to put up with at mechanics because I'm a woman. Being new to the area, I've only had one experience here. However, I'm very confident I've found my mechanic shop. First observation: they were very friendly on the phone when I set up my appointment. They were equally as friendly when I dropped it off and spoke to them in person. About an hour after dropping it off, I get a phone call detailing their diagnosis, and thoroughly going over my options. I'm far from an expert, so I appreciated the in-depth options for repair, with straightforward and balanced advice. At no point did I feel they were trying to add on or talk me into the higher priced options. In fact, based on my needs, they recommended one of the more moderately priced options. When I went to pick it up (same day, just a few hours after dropping it off), the bill was exactly what they told me it would be. I even chatted with the mechanic a bit about possible future preventative maintenance (but again, no pressure, just solid advice). Just on one experience, I have to give five stars. I drove off the lot very satisfied, feeling like I got my money's worth. read more

I thought my brake light came on so I checked out the place with the best reviews regarding brakes. Brakes plus was the most highly rated and now I understand why. I was so grateful to the gentleman who helped me I could have cried. Apparently I only had a slow leak in my tire which he filled for free. He could have tried to sell me a new tire but he didn't he simply gave me his card in case I had any trouble with my car. Brakes Plus has become the only place I take my car to be serviced. I stumbled upon this place while I was grocery shopping in the same shopping center because I needed an oil change. It was a Saturday and the door said that they work by appointment only, but I took shot and went in and asked if they could squeeze me in for an oil change. They were able to and the man that helped me was just overall a nice guy. I have since brought my car back for brakes and had another great experience. What I really like about Brakes Plus is that they are honest with you. They never talk to you like you are dumb and they definitely don't try to sell you parts and services you don't need. read more

They saved me over $500 bucks on a converter by letting me know my dealership was bound by law to replace it for free since my car was under 8 years old and had less than 80,000 miles on it. I'd never had what I'd consider a good experience at a mechanic before-- until i found this place. This is hands down the most honest, professional, and nice shop I've ever been to. If something needs to be fixed, they're glad to patiently answer all of your questions and give a detailed explanation. And if something doesn't need to be fixed or replaced, they tell you so-- even if (like me) you don't know all that much about cars, and were fully prepared to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars replacing or fixing some expensive part of your car that you were sure was the problem. I've been here several times in the past year, and have constantly been amazed at how low my bill has been. I honestly feel like coming to this place has saved me money rather than cost me money, because they've managed to keep my old SUV, which I'd previously thought I was going to have to replace pretty soon, running perfectly. As a bonus, the waiting room is incredibly clean and pleasant, and everyone who works there is so friendly. If I moved 100 miles away, I'd come back to the Triangle area just to have these guys work on my vehicle. read more

Matthew and his team are awesome mechanics who take the time to explain everything in detail and patiently answer my questions every time I bring my car in. The shop is conveniently located in a shopping area with restaurants, a supermarket,stores, etc. so you can run errands or have a bite to eat while you're waiting. Everyone at Brakes Plus is GREAT! Ryan worked with me and my problem with my brakes. I make an appointment early that day and my car was taken in the bay right after I got there.
