I WISH THERE WERE NEGATIVE STAR OPTIONS: In January of 2019, I sought out the services of the Brain Balance Center in Henderson, NV. I met with the owner, Susan DeVito. We were struggling with my 7-year old daughter, who was exhibiting severe social and behavioral problems and getting suspended from 1st grade on a consistent basis. Susan explained the science behind Brain Balance and touted her 30 years of experience in Child Development. In that consultation, she insured that our daughter would be working with professionals that had experience similar to hers. She also insured that her staff would be working directly with my daughter's teacher and the school's administration to develop a customized plan for her needs so that all of us could collectively be on the same page. Being that we were in an extremely vulnerable state, I felt like this might be a way to help our daughter. Boy, was I wrong. The services at Brain Balance were absolutely nothing as they were described. The lessons that she attended at the center were a complete joke. The instructors are extremely young, clearly have no experience in child development. I don't see the point of touting your 30-years of child development experience if you have no intention of ever actually working with the kids yourself, but I found that this is a strategic part of her sales pitch. The most critical reason for me working with Brain Balance was the work they said they were going to do with the school and her teacher. Danielle was the person in Susan's office that was supposed to be working with my Daughter's school. I was told that they would be reaching out to her school right away to begin setting up meetings. Two weeks later, my daughter had been suspended 2 more times. I called Danielle and begged her to please make this a priority. So, she called and coordinated a time to meet with my daughter's teacher. On the day of the meeting, Danielle did a "no-call/ no-show" on my daughter's teacher. And she still hadn't made any effort to reach out to the Principal, who she also assured me she would meet. When I asked Susan what was going on, she said that Danielle forgot about the appointment because she was busy. So, instead of actually making it all happen, all Susan did was call her teacher and have a pointless 20-minute conversation asking her questions that we had already covered in our initial consultation. It's about this time that I'm beginning to feel like I have been completely ripped off of my money. TOTAL COST OF THE 18-MONTH PROGRAM: $10,900 FEE FOR INITIAL CONSULTATION: $295 (In addition to the $10,900) PAYMENT TERMS: The entire program was to be paid, in full, within 6 months. As part of the 6-month payment option, they required $3,270 as a down payment, then she would charge 6 equal installments for the remaining balance. SHE'S TRYING TO KEEP THE ENTIRE 6-MONTHS OF TUITION WHEN WE WERE ONLY THERE A MONTH AND A HALF: I cancelled after my daughter had attended 15 sessions because this was a colossal waste of time and money and I have been fighting a dispute to get my money back for over 6 months. (CAUTION: There's a reason they require so much up front!!!) To provide a comparison for you, I have since moved my child over to a licensed psychiatrist who charges us $150 per month. There wasn't a down payment at all or any additional fees that could prevent us from seeking alternative methods for my child, should we find that she isn't the best fit for her, like we experienced at Brain Balance. The results have been astounding in a very short amount of time with the licensed professional. Trust me when I tell you, I know how vulnerable you are right now and how awful it is to be going through this with your child. This place will prey on those vulnerabilities. First off BB has helped my son. BUT you had better have the Money. We just did it for the summer. I had to stop at the $5,000 LOAN. The other $8,500 Is not in the cards. "Buyer beware" After dedicating over 3 months of my whole summer break to our son, changing his diet- nonstop special exercises not to mention $5400.00 down the drain. Not until after we signed the contract were we told of all the work I would have to do. If only it would have worked it would been worth it. If it wasn't for my sons Teacher telling me he was already failing just after 2 weeks of school starting. Don't fall for the scam, it just doesn't work for everyone. FYI... I followed the handbook religiously, spent several hundred dollars on food that could only be bought from Whole Foods, we missed family gatherings, BB-Q's, birthday parties, had a choice of going on foreign summer vacation or do Brain Balance. As a parent I chose to try to change my son's life. I know for a fact I'm not the only parent who feels this way. I'm a parent who will not just go away quietly with not letting other parents know my experience's. As a family we also gave up TV and going to the movies, and were tortured by listening to "Whales and Wolves" CD all day long, some of you know what I'm talking about! I know now that my money could have been spent more wisely on other programs that really work, with out the HUGE expense on me and other parent's. I also had my son tested for allergies through a Pediatric Allergist. Took in the list from BB and guess what, he had NO allergies to any of those foods "scam" we should have been given our $5400.00 back period! My son had perfect 20/20 vision before starting BB, now is far sighted with deficit and weakness one eye and now requires glasses. Don't think a coincidence considering the eye strain exercises and eye manipulation activities my son was subject to at BB. Lawsuit????? I am here to warn all parents of my experience with BB!!! If it worked for you, good for you! This is the other side of the story! Public school does not promote BB!!! PS. I shouldn't be so bitter, my son did get a T-shirt and a water bottle after all!! Keep in mind parents BBC is a franchise. A business out to make money. Do your due diligence and read the blogs about BBC from all over the country; a franchise like a Quiznos or U-swirl. What pulls you in is she is a doctor, but she cant ever answer any medical questions because its not a medical facility... Hello? I'll give it to Dr. Devitto, she is a GREAT sales person! Let's see how the scam works for kids 1- 2 years down the road from now. My son hated BB cried 3xs a week when we had to go one time I was leaving him and he had a complete meltdown "Dr. Devitto" pulled him away from me and I hated it I will never forget the look on my sons face of fear...very bad experience!picking him up he would complain how tired he was and how his head hurt and eyes its a awful place!! Teacher after teacher tried to convince us drugs were the only way and that our 4th grade son was ADHD. We knew something was off but didn't know what. Even after just the assessment - we knew more about our son's brain than we ever wanted to know. And they pinpointed he doesn't have ADHD but behavioral issues and right down the line - from how he processes information to how/why he reacts as he does - they nailed everything and had the program applied accordingly. I just want to thank the Brain Balance Center for all their help. Our adopted son was having so many problems. We had tried 4 counceling agencies and even homeschooled him, all with no success. We read the book "Disconnected Kids" and thought that Dr. Melillo had seen our son in action! We contacted BBC and had him evaluated. I literally had to move half my family to NV from AZ in order to get him the help he needed. A friend had me take her son as well. The change we saw in both boys was amazing. Our friend went from stumbling and falling down while walking to the car, and falling while tryng to get into the car, to being able to walk, or run, out to the car and get in without even a stumble. There were other advances as well. Our son went from singing out of sync with everyone, to being able to sing right along with us. Our son was having tantrums daily, over nothing other than he didn't get his way. We found out he was at about 3 yrs old on the left side. After our 12 weeks, EVERYONE noticed the differences in him. We took advantage of the ALCAT testing and found out he was intollerant of certain foods. As long as he does not eat those foods, his attitude and tantrums are less frequent and less intense. An add plus to this was that he no longer needs the asthma medicine he had been on for 4 years! He is off 4 medicines, totally. ALCAT does not test for food allergies, it tests for intollerances. Allergies produce histamines. Intollerances cause other issues. For us, it was extreme anger and horrible behavior. Just the food issues alone made a huge difference. The exercises don't take that long, but you do need to be consistent. When he does them correctly, he is able to do them with ease. If he is cheating, not so well. Our son is one of the 25% that needs to return for another 12 week session. We will be moving back up to NV next month. The money we spent on this is not even an issue. What his future is going to be like now, verses what it would have been like before BBC, is totally opposite. He will be able to function as an adult, He won't be stuck at age 3. His brain will be able to work properly, in order to do the math that he struggles with. This is invaluable. There can be no price on getting our son the help he needed or needs.
