Bradbury's coffee has some of the best authentic buckwheat crepes with savory fillings and flour crepes with sweet fillings...PERIOD. It's a buzzing cafe with a hipster vibe serving premium coffee, artesian crepes and locally sourced fare. The staff is very friendly and espresso experts! 50% of Madison, Wi residents, above the age 25 hold an undergraduate degree, it's scenic lake and wooded areas are abundant and it is home to many award winning restaurants. Parking is available on the side of the building (don't forget to feed your meter). It's literally minutes from entertainment..within 5 minutes walking in either direction... the capital building and the lake are very close. read more

Wonderful, cute little crêpe place on a corner. It was smaller than I imagined - mostly window high top seats. It was a bit chilly sitting by the glass windows. The savory crêpes were delicious! Made with fresh ingredients, perfect serving size and tasty sauces. They just got a produce shipment as we were walking in and used fresh kale in our order. The Nutella was house made in the Nutella, banana and almond crêpe. Tasted less sweet than store bought. It was good but not as stand out as the savory crêpes. The chai latte was full of flavor. Our favorite breakfast spot when we are in the area! They do both savory and sweet crepes right! They're very well-balanced. Personal favorite is the Honey and Sea Salt. My husband loves trying their savory options. The only improvement I could suggest is to find a larger location. I came into Bradburys on a Saturday morning and although it was busy there were plenty of seats. It is a super small cafe but most people come in to get takeout. I ordered a latte and lemon curd crepe. They bring you your food and we're very friendly. The latte was probably the best one I have had this far in Madison. I generally think Madison doesn't do coffee well but this spot disproved that! The espresso was strong and rich and I was happily surprised. The lemon curd crepe was very strong in flavor. It was a little too sweet for me but it was still pretty good. It was $7.50 which is a little bit on the pricey side. It was very tart for people who enjoy that. Me and my girlfriend were here for a Saturday breakfast.We had the Lamb sausage and fried egg crepes and ham crepes. Both the dishes were absolutely delicious. We also did try out their lamb scones, which was very different and unique. In a good way. The coffee they poured that day was Ethiopian local, and it was pretty nice. I happened upon this lovely coffee/crepe shop while I was visiting Madison. It's located near the state house building, but still manages to be blissfully quiet. It's homey and small, but there was still plenty of place for me to sit. I had a cinnamon and sugar crepe and despite its simplicity to be absolutely phenomenal. Perfectly warmed and textured it was perfect for the day of sleet. For a drink I had a warmed golden conconction of oat milk, turmeric, and other assorted spices that was good by itself and complemented my crepe well. When we were visiting Madison, Wisconsin, my friend recommended Bradbury's for breakfast/brunch. I was quite excited before coming because I love crepes. Food: I ordered the Nutella, banana, and almond crepe, and it was decent- nothing too special, but still enjoyable to eat. For $6.50, it was a reasonable price. Environment: This is what threw me off the most. I was told it was a sit-in restaurant, but was not expecting such a tiny place! It holds maybe 12-13 people comfortably. There was a couple tables that outlined the premise, but the main seating area was a long shared table with bar stools. This is great for 1-2 people, but my party of 5 had to ask people if they could move over so that we could all sit together. Also, because we were sitting on bar stools, my back inevitably began to ache. It's definitely a great place to sit and catch up on work, but not so great for catching up with a group of friends. Service: I noticed that they only had 2 crepe making stations and because of that, it took about 25 minutes before our crepes arrived. With that being said, the crepe was incredibly fresh and all the ingredients complimented each other. All in all, I would come back. I would love to try the other crepe flavors; maybe opt for a savory one! However, I think I'll only come by myself or with one other person. This place is pretty hip and also it is located on a corner, which is also seems hip to me. I've tried the drip coffee, the pour over, and cold brew. They do a great job brewing coffee; the coffee is flavorful. Their coffee is a little pricey, but definitely worth the price. I got the vegetarian savory crepe made with kale, muenster, corn, and sun gold tomatoes in a buckwheat crepe topped with fried egg and sprouts. Hopefully I memorized that correctly. I have a newfound love for sun gold tomatoes. They're a little sweet, which I like. Lacinato kale is always a favorite too. The ingredients are super fresh. What you have to try at Bradbury's is their Nutella Muffin. It is heavenly. It's made with dollops of nutella as well as dark chocolate chips. The muffin is somewhere in between cake and bread, and it's not overly sweet. The top is crispy but the inside is so soft. I was able to get one fresh from the tin. This is an adorable little corner cafe with views of the capital and busy streets, and sidewalks full of interesting people. I could probably sit here all day people-watching and gorging on crepes and coffee. I ordered the house made Nutella and banana crepe. Wowza. I expected to be in a sugar coma, but was pleasantly surprised by how light and delicious this was. I also had a flat white, which came in the perfect sized cup and with which I walked around the square afterwards. My unscientific survey to determine the good, better and best places for hot chocolate leads me today to Bradbury's off the capitol square on N. Hamilton. The Madison Marathon is just completed and the square is unusually quiet, as is Bradbury's. From other's reviews, this small place is often crowded with lines out the door and students occupying the tables. Not so today. I brush past a skateboard propped inside the door and step up to the counter, there is no wait to place my order: hot chocolate ($3.60) and a vanilla/coconut/raisin scone ($3.00). They are served within minutes. An embarrassment of moist raisins nestle in the scone sweetening it, and the vanilla, coconut and haze of frosting add more layers of flavor. It is delicious, bread or biscuit-like - baked all the way through with no gooey center you sometimes find in scones. But the hot chocolate makes me a little sad. It looks good, for sure, served in a large cup, topped with whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles. That's kind of where the chocolate begins and ends. The drink lacks richness, body, warmth. It is more like tepid milk's nodding acquaintance with chocolate. The staff and servers are very nice and the way the space is situated, taking advantage of its corner location with walls of windows converging on a lakeview point, are reasons to return and explore other menu entries. read more

Let me start off by saying the coffee at bradbury's is excellent. As for the food, after coming here and observing how their "kitchen" (if you can call it that given it's a guy standing right behind the register cooking over two crepe stoves) operates, I refuse to eat any of the food here due to food safety concerns and hygiene. The guy making the crepes does not wear any food gloves when handling the food and literally uses his bare hands to touch and fold over the crepes he's making. I was in shock as he touched all sorts of other things in the area and then kept on handling food without using gloves. There is also cross contamination such as him touching and ripping pieces of deli meat/ham and then reaching into the tub of arugula and adding some to the crepe, again all with his bare hands. No hand washing in between either. Just wipes everything on his apron. Not to mention that they don't wipe off the stoves as they cook the different dishes, so for anyone who may be vegan you may get remnants of the egg that was cooked on that same stove right before your crepe batter was poured. The place also is very stuffy and can use some air circulation given that they're cooking literally in a small enclosed space. Their pastries also taste a bit burnt or smokey - like how the restaurant smells. I'd give this place 5 stars for the coffee but with everything else in the balance - 3 stars. read more

There is not a whole lot of seating, and it feels like more of a place that I would go on my own to be inspired, sit in front of a window on the barstools and write. Crepes, coffee, cozy. If you're in a rush, that's all you need to know about Bradbury's. The basics: crepes are their focus, and there's both a sweet and savory menu. The menu rotates and often reflects what's available at the farmer's market and in season. Their recent special was perfect for fall - a pumpkin-filled crepe with candied pecans and an apple cider reduction. It wasn't overly sweet and the pumpkin puree was allowed to shine without being doused in a ton of spices or sugar. I can't have caffeine, but multiple friends swear Bradbury's has the best coffee in Madison. I've really enjoyed their hot apple cider when I've ventured past water for my beverage - it almost has a creamy quality to it that I can't figure out how they accomplish, but thoroughly enjoy. The walls are windows so it's always bright and benefitting from natural light. WiFi has been reliable when I've used it. My only complaints are that the triangular layout leads to some tight squeezes when it's busy, and the seating is all really, really low. I'm a short person and I feel like I'm sitting on the ground; I'm not sure how those in the average to tall range fare on the long trip down to the kindergarten stools. That said, the changing menu and sunny room makes a great stop anytime between breakfast and dessert. read more

Their crêpes are by far the best anywhere. They're all excellent. The produce is all local. The recipes are all seasoned just right. Their savory dishes have the crêpes made with buckwheat flour - the perfect flavor and free of gluten. The ham crêpe has a stoneground mustard that brings the flavor and texture to perfection. The sweet crêpes are amazing too. Everything is made on site from scratch - the hazelnut spread (compare to Nutella), the lemon curd, the caramel. Their coffees and teas are great. The flavor of the day is usually from Ruby roasters - every blend is beyond delicious. Their teas are great too, and they make their own chai starting with my favorite Assam tea. If you couldn't tell, I really think it's a most excellent establishment. The customer service is friendly and professional. While the place is small, it's accessible, child-friendly, and the clientele are diverse, interesting people from all walks of life. Free WiFi and apple-pay are among the tech plusses. read more

I was looking particularly for some crepes for breakfast and found Bradbury's on yelp. They serve what I'd like and have a decent average rating, I though that will definitely do. Now, I'll start with the interior, which not particularly much was done to it, since all the concrete beams are exposed as well as ductwork and stuff. 'Loft' they might say, and be horribly wrong, because you have to bring it up to a Loft, not just leave As-is. But whatever, maybe one saw it this way; what really shocked me is that there is not enough (or none at all) exhaust to suck out all of the oil and this frying smell out of such a tiny premises! One of those places, where your hair and clothes will start smelling from you just walking in. On yea and that storage right above the bathroom... really?:) Now, the both mine and my girlfriend's crepes were tasty, BUT! (there's always that but, right) the menu that's scratched on the on one of those concrete beams does not say this is just ONE single crepe. While one of that ham-arugula-cheese crepe may be enough, one of the nutella-banana crepe is really small. On top of that, we were waiting for the order about 30 minutes to be made, so I couldn't even order one more later on. Speaking of drinks tho, I'll be honest, I liked their coffee a lot. Truly, it was great. Going back to the interior problems, spacing is kinda poor. I can't say I can situate those tables better inside, but I am no designer. One should, because getting to the very front corner where we sat with coffee in my hands was kinda difficult. And I can imagine how upset someone sitting on the table in the center would be if I spill a bit of that hot coffee on their back.. I would relocate them at least somehow. As a conclusion, the place has been around for quite a while, I've seen some pics on Yelp from like 8 years ago. I am really surprised they haven't changed anything since then, these problems are obvious. Bradbury's is not terrible, no, it just needs some attention, and probably, a bit more of care. 2019 update time! As I've travelled more places and visited more Madisonian cafés and reflected on what a quality experience is, I am finally upping my rating of Bradbury's to a 5 star. Part of this is comparison-based; as more and more mom-and-pop coffee houses go out of business, Madison is starting to feel gradually devoid of places that know how to do the coffee experience correctly. Off the top of my head, I can think of maybe three or four places on the isthmus that don't feel corporatized and non-local. As much as I love a big city, when I think of Madison, I (and probably most everyone else) think of community staples with one, maybe two locations to visit. I think of popular places, frequented by college kids and out-of-town'ers alike. Bradbury's, to me, checks all the boxes of what I want in a Madison coffeehouse. (Well, except for square footage.) It's hard to compare other crêperies to Bradbury's, since it's the only one in the city to my knowledge. So instead I'd point to the originality of the foods they serve. The sweet crêpes tend to stay the same - with staples like lemon curd; cinnamon sugar; and housemate Nutella, almond, and banana - though they've added and rotated a few more sweet crêpes to the menu since I last reviewed them (much to my pleasure). The savory crêpes have always felt more creative to me, though they generally are served with a cracked egg which is not my style. But, they're always seasonal and original; for example, a current option is a hearty mix of crispy chickpeas, feta, mixed greens, pickled carrots, lemon/tahini vin, and is served with a fried egg. Or, a scone available today: candied ginger with citrus hibiscus glaze. The combinations are always this unique, all of the food options change DAILY (my mind is blown by this), and I really can't think of anywhere else in Madison that can match that caliber. read more

They have been personally recommended on more than one dozen occasions...I almost don't want to make the suggestion out of fear that the scones will be gone each time I stop by. JUST SO DELICIOUS. Go and have one, two, or ten!!! Then, bring me a few (pretty please?)!!! Straight up brewed espresso. NO ONE IN MADISON DOES IT BETTER. Caramel-y, syrup-y, FULL of flavor, and served in cute little brown cups, with saucers, and your side of selzer water. Yep...this is how espresso is traditionally done. And in this case, I am completely okay with traditional. To the point RAVENOUS, actually!!!! Space is still problematic. But everything else makes up for it. However, it's kind of the "Bradbury's point" to be small, understated, letting the product do all the talking. The staff is always chill, friendly, joking, fun.
